I really do not like to give bad reviews. I talk this place up all the time to anyone asking where to go before a game. Tonight my nephew was here to visit and go to his first Milwaukee game since we moved here two years ago. Had a hefty dinner/drinks tab. Took their shuttle to the game. Afterwards is where things went horribly. We had been waiting for a shuttle back for an excessive amount of time. The lady who's been the shuttle bus traffic control at every game I've been to was flabbergasted. She radioed several times to say that there were still people waiting for pickup. We weren't the only group waiting. Then she informed us that no one was coming to get us. The driver from Dugout 54 was willing to take us with multiple people sitting on others laps. So not safe, however I was quite cold and it's too far to walk. I can say that after spending some hard earned cash, in high dollar amounts many times I don't know if we'll ever go again. read more

The onion straws were our favorite, but I can't imagine a better environment to watch a brewers game at, lots of TVs and great atmosphere! Would highly recommend. Excellent visit here the other night for dinner. After grabbing Saz's at Harvest Fair, we got a $10 off coupon so wanted to use that for some mozzarella sticks. They really are the best! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and BYO burger, both delicious. Plenty of fries on our plates, too. There we a few couples dining here, but otherwise, it was pretty dead for a Saturday night. Our server was friendly and quick to get us whatever we needed, including a large carafe of water. The prices might be a little high for some things but it's always consistent. read more

We celebrated Mother's Day with brunch at Saz's State House. The service was good, the buffet was huge and everything was delicious! It was packed with people and our server made sure to check on us and get us anything that we needed. I highly recommend eating there! We also ate there last summer and ate out on the deck. I've had plenty of Saz platters at Summerfest but have not been to the brick and mortar until now. We came on a Saturday for the summerfest scavenger hunt they were having. It was about 2:30pm and wasn't busy at all. We were seated right away and our server was super attentive and gave us a whole pitcher of water which I always appreciate. We got our food super quick I'd say 5-10 after ordering. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It's not the best pulled pork in the area but hits the spot with their iconic chive fries. read more

The festival sampler platter is a definite buy but everything else is very ordinary. I had the burger of the month which was a smash burger combo with a brat patty. Sounded much better than the taste because the meat was bland. The fries were the highlight. I was getting deep fried out after sharing the combo platter but it was worth the grease coating my mouth. We had a large group and they provided separate checks so that's a plus. Unfortunately people were mostly ho hum about the food. I'll stick to eating the combo platter at local events because there isn't much more on the menu at the restaurant that intrigues me. read more

I've certainly enjoyed a Saz's sampler or two during Summerfest but I don't think I've formally dined in at their State House location until now. Saw that they have been around since 1976 (nearly 50 years! ) - I didn't realize they were THAT old, but I love to see restaurants that have been around for decades. The architecture/decor was certainly a more classic feel (not sure I would have guessed as far back as the 70's though) - has that "old Milwaukee" charm to it. Of course, we ordered their cheese curds - 'cause, how could we not? Now... I'm 90% sure the chalkboard promoted the "Beast Burger" - it was definitely the burger of the month for January and had, I want to say, 4(?) animals to make up the protein of the burger. It had me really intrigued, so I went with it. Needless to say, I left just beyond the line of comfortably full. I'll need to return to try other regular menu items, since I'll likely not luck out to get a Beast Burger on my next visit. read more

My family and I had a nice time at Saz's. Our waitress was fabulous and very attentive to our needs. Our fountain drinks were always filled! Though part of this could be because it was nearly completely empty there on a Saturday night! We got the sampler appetizer and disappointingly, the fries had definitely been sitting out for a while- not fresh. The state house salmon dish was good and a fair price too, but could've used a little more flavor. The ribs were decent. My mom said the chicken was great. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here though it could've been improved in some ways. read more

We've been to Saz's State House a few times recently and have consistently had great service that keeps us coming back. The food is always excellent too. Our fvorites have been the Stephanie burger, short rib philly, and BBQ pulled chicken sandwich. And the fries? They're truly one of a kind, so delish! I've had Saz's at summerfest several time, but this is the first time I've been to the actual restaurant. At summerfest, the food is average to good, nothing special. But at the actual restaurant it is loads better and I'd highly recommend. I had the French dip. The bread was soft and fluffy and the sirloin very tender. Fries were solid too. Staff was friendly, bonus points because he gave us a pitcher of water to refill our cups at our own pace. I spent a couple of hours at Saz's before using their shuttle to watch the Brewers defeat the Dodgers in a night game where 13 Dodgers struck out. Unfortunately, the highlight of the game was my two hours at Saz's. Baseball bores me. Saz's was fun. Everyone at the bar talks to each other in great spirits. Sammi was the best bartender, tending to my inebriated demands with aplomb. The last time I was in Saz's might be the late 1970s, and their ribs were the best in town. Today, they're not, but they are still good. The shuttles ran perfectly, and they were easy to navigate. Too bad I don't like baseball. It's not a good game for someone with severe ADHD. read more

I think the key here is to order the right items. We've been to state house a few times, and it's always been hit or miss - the service has always been decent. On a recent trip in we ordered the festival favorites - all delicious (e.g. curds, mozz sticks, and chive fries) - we are obsessed with the sauces at Saz's - flavorful, but not too acidic. We ordered the bbq pulled chicken sandwich, mac and cheese, the soup, and a fish fry - the fish fry wasn't anything special, but it was good. Felt the sandwich/mac and cheese were a bit bland though. Overall - I would always go back for apps, but would probably try a different main next time. read more

My husband, my brother and sister-in-law, and I came here before going to the Brewers game, and it was DELICIOUS. Originally, we chose this place because it looks like a castle outside, and they have great reviews online. When walking in, we got sat near the entrance door from the parking lot, which was a half-booth, half-chair seating area. We noticed that the restaurant was clean and had a woody aesthetic. It looks nothing inside like how I would have imagined based on the outside looking like a castle, but it still had a cozy atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with the menu. We ended up ordering the delicious cheese curds for our appetizer ($12). They were AMAZING and so crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside. They even have their own white BBQ dipping sauce, which was unique! For my meal, I ordered a Nashville hot chicken sandwich ($14). The chicken was flavorful and seasoned well, but it didn't exactly taste like a normal Nashville-styled chicken breast. It was so crispy, though, and so were the fries on the side. I do wish the Nashville hot chicken sandwich had melted cheese instead of a cheese slice just sitting on top. I also wish there was coleslaw on it like a normal Nashville hot chicken. I would order this meal again, but I would maybe suggest some add ons next time. The sauce on the side was honestly also the best sauce ever. They called it New Orleans style remoulade, so I'm not exactly sure what that is, but I could drink it on its own! YUM! Everyone in my family loved what they ordered. My husband ordered the Nashville hot chicken and waffles, my sister-in-law ordered mac and cheese and the cornbread muffins. She LOVED the muffin so much that she bought one to-go, too. Additionally, I think my brother-in-law ordered a burger. The awesome thing about this restaurant is there are so many options and the prices aren't too high for the quality of food. Anyone can find something they have a taste for on the extensive menu. Because we are from Chicago, we aren't in the area that often, but I'd for sure come back here again! The coordinator that helped with the reservation and menu was very nice and helpful. This room is handicap accessible. I would highly recommend Saz's private dinning room for small gatherings. If you're a native Milwaukeean you're probably most familiar with Saz's combo platter at any one of our many festivals throughout the year. That being said, make sure you check out the actual restaurant if you haven't already. Service was a little slow and I'm not sure if it was because it was the middle of the week or post-Covid staffing issues or what. Also our waitress wasn't aware of the email special that had been sent out by the restaurant earlier that day so it was a little frustrating to have to explain things to an employee. The apps were great as usual, and their specialty drink of the day was also pretty tasty. If you get an entree with a side make sure you give their homemade pub chips a try as they're cooked and seasoned perfectly. And if you get a regular entree it's probably enough for 2-3 meals easily so plan for leftovers! read more

I wandered into Saz's with my mom and her friend after a long day of shopping. We were tired and hungry. It was mid-afternoon and it was pretty much empty. We sat at the bar. Service was fair, but we were the only people there so it should have been great. We ordered Manhattans. They were not good - definitely call your bourbon. And they use gross maraschino cherries, not the good ones. We had cheese curds and used our curd pass, but the bartender seemed never to have heard of it, didn't know how to ring it up and needed help. We also had onion straws, which were good. Had dinner at Saz's a few nights ago after not having been back since the pandemic! Menu was smaller than I remember, but honestly still had a TON of choices. Saz's. A Milwaukee staple. BBQ that is loved my many! I'll say that for the most part I enjoy their hearty fare, but in a recent visit to the restaurant, I was a bit underwhelmed. Some friends and I got together at the State House for a Tuesday night birthday dinner. Prior to this, I hadn't been to the restaurant in years, and instead having enjoyed their catering around town and at places like Summerfest. The restaurant is a classic though. It's got old school sports bar vibes and has grown into a destination spot with a loyal following. They've got an outdoor patio that's enjoyable, private event spaces/rooms, and a complimentary shuttles to and from many Milwaukee sporting events. Plenty of parking in their outside lot when you come in to eat as well. On our visit, most of us ordered the hibiscus agave marg off their signature cocktail list. I'm a margarita fan for sure, but this one was a little too sweet for me. Love me a citrus salted rim though. We also put in a few apps: the giant pretzels, and mozz sticks. Can't really go wrong with these classics. The mozzarella sticks are massive, Wonton-wrapped string cheese and some with a classic house marinara. For a main, I ordered the chicken flatbread sandwich. It just wasn't my cup of tea, as it was super heavy and greasy. It's essentially flatbread fried in cheddar cheese and stuffed with chicken, apples, spinach, and onion. The bummer was that there wasn't much of any of that inside. The apples had me excited when I read it on the menu, assuming it would provide a tasty, tangy crunch, but there was only one slice inside. Limited chicken chunks too. Overall, it just felt like I was eating large slices of fried cheese-bread. While I guess there's some hefty flavor there, it's just not for me. Safe to say that upon order from Saz's I'll stick to their BBQ classics like signature pulled pork or chicken. There's a reason those are their specialities! read more

We are regular diners at Saz's, typically for Brewers games and we ride their shuttle bus. This time all four of our entrees were very good but the wings appetizer had numerous feathers still attached. Our server didn't come back until just before the entrees were served and she offered to replace the appetizer, but by then it was too late in the meal. She noted we didn't eat half of it and when told about the feathers she never offered to take it off the bill. Stopped in for the Do Good with Food fundraiser night with Children's. I went with the ribs, baked beans and macaroni & cheese. My sister got the the macaroni & cheese with bbq pulled pork. My meal was good but the showstopper was hers! The pulled pork Mac & cheese was soooo flavorful and delicious. The leftovers reheated well the next day. My ribs were tender and fell of the bone. My only complaint was that the ribs weren't served with a moist towelette. No idea who can eat ribs and keep their hands clean. A regular napkin was not sufficient. Quick effortless pic because I was starving after a12 hour work shift, sorry! I got the fish fry, and I almost didn't because I inquired about the batter- if it was thick, crispy, and fried hard and was told that it wasn't but I wanted to try it anyway and I'm so glad I did! It was a lighter breading but it was actually perfect. This is probably actually my new favorite fish fry! Also, I'm a tarter sauce snob! I'm so picky! Everything was delicious. Hell, even the bread was good! My boyfriend got the ribs and fried chicken combo. For the chicken he chose the spicy option and it was SO good! It was so juicy. Ribs were a 10! The mac and cheese was apparently delicious because I didn't even get a bite of that! Haha The coleslaw is good. I do have to be honest and say we ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer and didn't care too much for that. It was a little thick- very cream cheese like and not served with tortilla chips like we're used to. It came with what i believe are their own freshly made potato chips which do taste well on their own. We did sit outside which was nice on a warm summer night. We ordered the Festival burger and the Pub burger, both with the Sour Cream and Chives fries. The Pub burger is comprised of 2 patties, onion rings, cheddar cheese on a pretzel bun. The Festival burger has cheese curds, bbq pork and 2 patties on a brioche bun. Both were very filling and very good. As usual the service was second to none. We were seated promptly by the host. Been years since I've gone to actually sat down at Saz's (usually get it at some festival in summer). The experience was great. We had a large party (including several kids) and the server was spot on. The food was applauded by all from the ribs to sandwiches to even the kids meals. Happy eaters all around! Grabbed dinner before a concert and it was super packed yet the service was surprisingly slow. Once the waitress took our drink order and appetizer order she was gone for quite some time. Then someone else brought our drinks EVENTUALLY. The waitress finally came back when our appetizer was coming out. The food was great as usual and so were the drinks but the service could have been better for sure. I also had to ask for another drink and she never asked if anyone else wanted another. If she had been to the table more often I think everyone would have grabbed a second drink before we left. read more
