Hunger descended on us in Alpine. We decided to stop at Saxon Baja Mex which was conveniently situated for us to pop back on the highway to Marfa. We were welcomed in to the spotless dining room and provided amicably efficient service. Hand made corn tortillas, fresh ingredients, skilled preparation and presentation. The two of us shared fish tacos, stuffed jalapeños and chicken mole. Good God, this meal was the best Mexican cuisine I've eaten since dining in Michoacán. Went in with a party of 13. We were given great service with three people making sure our needs were met. I had the poblano pepper taco, ribeye taco and the gubernator taco. All three were excellent. I forgot to take pictures but they looked as good as they tasted. This is not your topical Tex-Mex place. The food is fresh and tastes great. read more

We were visiting Big Bend for a few days and found this place. There were 10 of us and we walked in about 30 minutes before they closed on a Sunday afternoon. Instead of turning us away, they started moving tables together to accommodate us. The tortillas were made in house and were rustic (yummy!). The tacos had an interesting texture because of that. It's a family run business so they went out of their way to please us. The service was warm and friendly. If you're ever in the area, check them out. You won't be disappointed. read more

I visited Sazzon Baja Mex with my boyfriend recently, and I must say, their cuisine was absolutely incredible! We attempted to try a little of most of their main dishes, and it was all amazing! The quality of their meals reminded me of California. The staff, super cordial and attentive. Also, coming from Florida, being able to sit by their big windows allowed us to enjoy Alpine's scenery while having dinner. Thank you guys, and hope to visit again soon! read more

Cane into town because my son will be going to the college out here. Looked on yelp they had great reviews. Cute little spot. However very pricy. 3 meals 3 drinks $67 plus tip the portions are very small. We actually went to Mc Donald's after because my BF was still hungry. If you're looking for stellar authentic Mexican food in the area, this place is it! They had a very good selection of traditional Mexican dishes that were all priced very well. I would personally recommend the Elote. The corn was very juicy and the toppings were perfect. I live in the region and finally checked out Sazzon. What took me so long? We discovered cheerful service, super fresh dishes, and a bright, modern diner interior. I had the chili rellenos taco, packed with layers of flavors on a super fresh homemade tortilla. My friends had the day's special and did not even share a bite! A remarkable culinary experience in Alpine! Not your run of the mill "mexican" restaurant. Truly authentic, flavorful, fresh food. Immaculately clean. Pleasant, cordial service. You've got to try their "aguas frescas" (natural fruit drinks). During our visit, they had a cucumber, pineapple and lemon drink that was delicious! You can tell the owners know about cooking. I had the "huaraches" with shredded beef and my wife the "enmoladas" (chicken enchiladas in mole sauce). Both dishes were outstanding! And to start, their corn on the cob was fantastic. This restaurant has slowly morphed into what it is today... unfortunately I've never found any of their inceptions very good. The ceviche was really NOT good and not "cooked" all the way... which means did not sit long enough in the lime marinade. We took it home (added more fresh lime juice) to let it sit longer hoping we could eat it later. (We love love love ceviche) It ended up in the trash... the whole lot of it. Plate presentation is very good!! We ordered several other things from the menu... nahhh. We however did not order tacos so maybe those are better- but based upon the 7 dishes we have tried over time... we will probably not bother read more

Food overall was not good at all. We'll begin with the chips and salsa. The chips were very stale and greasy, and the salsa container only had about three tablespoons of salsa in it. We ordered the shrimp tacos, an aguachile, and carne asada tacos. They gave us fish tacos instead of shrimp, and the fish itself was questionable. The carne asada tacos smelled terrible, and tasted even worse. We literally had to go to McDonald's after paying the $100 bill. read more
