I got a call in the late afternoon today from some agent in Los Angeles, telling me that my Medicare Supplement Plan had been cancelled and stated that SBHIS had "worked with me before", which was a lie. The biggest lie of all was that my insurance had been cancelled, which is most certainly had not been. I had been to see my doctor the previous day, who congratulated me on not having to search out a new insurance this year so I could continue seeing him. I'd also received my renewal packet for my insurance several weeks previously. The agent proceeded to talk over me, and seemed to deliberately garble her name when I aked - repeatedly - for her to give it to me. She kept trying to rush me into setting up an appointment to see one of their agents and I finally had enough and pushed back, telling her that I'd investigate this on my own, that I had never worked with this company and that I didn't believe her.
I then called my medical group who confirmed that I was okay for the coming 2016 year, that, unlike what the SBHIS woman had told me, my county was NOT dropped by my insurance carrier, and told me that there had been several other complaints about SBHIS lying to other members, falsely telling them their coverage had been cancelled, and that they suspected SBHIS was trying to steal patients. It was turned over to their invesitigative department.
I called SBHIS back, spoke to a supervisor who brushed it off as a mistake, then transferred me to another supervisor who said she'd investigate and get back to me. Nothing.
I'm reporting this company to the State Insurance Commissioner.
It's pretty scary, very scary, to be told that I might lose access to my doctor, considering the severity of my condition and the many years I've been seeing him, and lying to a person is unconscionable.
Do NOT trust any agent from South Bay Health and Insurance Services unless you can indepentantly verify everything they tell you.
