We did half a dozen on our first visit, here's the run down of the 6 things we tried: Sour cream cake donut: 5/5 loved the consistency, very dense and tasty! would get more of the cake donuts next time Chocolate glazed: 3/5 VERY soft and fluffy as it was a yeast donut, but the chocolate glaze was not very sweet. would love to try the vanilla version and see if it's sweeter! Cinnamon sugar: 4/5 similar to an old fashioned donut, as it's not overly sweet, but cinnamon sugar gives it an extra touch. Crème filled: 3/5 essentially a chocolate glazed with creme filling -- this one was also ok! the crème was nice and rich but was expecting it to be a bit sweeter Cardy B: 4/5 remind me of a cinnamon roll, but there's a heavier cream cheese taste from the icing that can be slightly off putting if you're not into that, but I believe it mixes fairly well with the cinnamon and other flavors. Apple Fritter: 5/5 best thing we ordered by far. it's sweet, fluffy, and just melts in your mouth. no notes. All of these taste best FRESH! We didn't finish the whole box on day 1, but the donuts were super dried out the next morning we went to pick at them them, so eating them when they're fresh is the way to go!! Very good very consistent and very fresh bakery in town. I always appreciate how thoughtful the services and how friendly they are. The donuts are always delicious. I particularly love the honey bun and the cinnamon sugar doughnut. They are a little bit on the more expensive side, but well worth it because it's such a high-quality piece of pastry. The inside of the café is well decorated and very cute. It can get a little bit cramped during the weekend when it's crowded but otherwise a very nice place to sit down and have a pastry. read more

My husband and I were in Charlottesville a few weeks ago to go hiking with our dogs and stopped in here out last full day to grab some donuts and coffee before driving out to Shenandoah for the last time. We figured some sugar would help fuel our hike, and we were right. We got a late start to the day, so when we got there they only had a few different donuts left, but they were AMAZING. My husband got a classic donut with chocolate icing, I got a cinnamon sugar donut, and we each got a cake donut. The cake donut was decadent and so soft. Each donut had such great flavor and was moist. I also loved that my cinnamon sugar donut kept the cinnamon and sugar on the actually donut vs falling off and all over the rental car. I didn't take photos of our coffees, but I had one of the best chai lattes I've ever had from any state and my husband had a caramel mocha latte that he declared the best coffee of our entire trip (he sadly didn't like any other coffee from the other bakeries we stopped at during our time in Charlottesville, but I enjoyed all of mine so I guess he's just picky lol). Stopping into this donut place yielded a small but appealing spread. I noted that a chocolate cream one was labeled as containing gelatin, which I wish were not used but I do at least appreciate when these things are labeled as there are a lot of things in desserts that create non-obvious dietary concerns. My favorite new addition to Charlottesville: the perfect friendly neighborhood donut shop! I am consistently blown away. These donuts are your typical favorite flavors, but they are so high quality and flavorful that you'll never want donuts from anywhere else in the area again. So far my favorites are the cream filled-- think Boston cream but stuffed _full_ of cream and with the most flavorful chocolate icing I could ask for; the maple bar-- glazed with a maple kick perfect for fall; and the apple fritter-- chunks of apple bursting with every bite. I'm eyeing the chocolate cake and vanilla bean glazed for next time, and the crumb bun! Don't sleep on their coffee either. Their PSL is *chef's kiss*. They're currently open every day of the week, and they get busy in the mornings! There is parking out front but it is limited. My go-to is to be there very early for the best selection. Drove two hours (got here early morning) to get some "amazing donuts" and they were just the most generic donuts ever. Most of their choices were already sold out! Like at least make enough that'll last you till 10:30-11 am. The staff was unhelpful. I finally had a chance to try Sbrocco's and was very impressed! Charlottesville has been in need of a good community donut place since Spudnuts closed, and Sbrocco's is well on the way to taking up that mantle. They have a variety of both yeasted and cake donuts in a variety of flavors, including seasonal options and fritters, as well as a full service coffee counter (ask for the milk/flavor options if needed since they're not listed on the menu). The interior is small, cute, and clean. The staff are super friendly and happy to explain options, and the service is quick as well. Definitely come early, especially on weekdays, since they tend to sell out before the actual closing time! They update on their Instagram when this happens, so check there if you're unsure. I had a latte and a raspberry jelly donut. The donut was sweet and soft without being too greasy, and you could tell that it was filled with real raspberry and not just flavored goop. Cute little addition to the Fry Spring area. Definitely very popular and limited parking (there's like 10 spots in the front that is shared with other businesses as well). First off the Apple fritter here is a must get. I know this is a donut place, but the Apple fritter is ahhhmazing and honestly the best value (size to cost ratio). The donuts are fun, there is a nice variety and you can choose between cake and yeast. I also got a hot americano. Excellent. It was smooth and not bitter. Really good overall. Will be back! Pros: The donuts are good and taste very fresh. The dough is moist and has a little bit of pastry flavor to it. The chocolate icing was good. The service is friendly. Cons: The jam was obviously fresh and homemade, but it wasn't my cup of tea; we couldn't even tell what type of fruit it was made from. I didn't like the maple bar at all; it somehow had a burnt-coffee-like taste to it. Parking is a pain unless you go at an off hour. The donuts are pricy and fairly small. Conclusion: If you want a donut that tastes a little pretentious, like it was made from scratch of all organic, non-GMO ingredients by someone who went to pastry school (which may be your thing, I'm not here to judge), then go here. It's like the fine dining equivalent of a donut, which is on brand for Cville. If you want a much larger donut with the most delicious glaze and fillings, a lower price tag, a wider selection, and much easier parking, then go to The Donut Kitchen on Pantops.
