For years we have been searching for a good set of dining chairs to replace the worn ones at our dining table. It's a bit like the story of the three bears - quality varied greatly from place to place, either quality was too low or prices too high, or the style just didn't work wherever we went. Then one day, we happened to find the time and purely on happenstance on our morning walk, we wandered on in here to find a set of chairs that matched our existing table at a price that seemed quite reasonable after discount. Our shopping experience was low key.. we wandered in, looked all around for maybe 15-20 minutes and once we found what we liked, we actually had to flag down a salesperson to initiate the transaction. We never felt pressured at all during the whole time. The Delivery - PRO TIP WARNING: As Murphy's Law dictates, I happened to mistakenly schedule the furniture delivery on a day and time that I would not be home. That would not be a problem, except that to reschedule a delivery, there is a $49 surcharge once scheduled.. However, I called the delivery center to explain my situation, and the delivery came early on the scheduled day BEFORE I had to leave for my other appointment. BRAVO! Overall - 4.5 stars - a half star off for the mandatory penalty charge to reschedule a delivery. Again, they made every effort to show up early ahead of my other time commitment and like in the Olympics, they PLANTED the landing! And oh yes, the dining new chairs are wonderful! - and guess what, the chairs REALLY are made in Denmark.. works for me! read more

I was super pleased that he was a very well in-tune sales person - he knew when to come answer questions, and when to leave us alone to discover. We really wanted to finalize on the Karsten dining table, it looked great in the photos and we wanted to look at it once we before we pulled the trigger. When I called this store, their sales agent told us that we need to get the order in today (Monday), so that we can get it shipped by Friday. We drove an hour in rush hour traffic to get to this store, only to find out that the store hours were incorrect on their website and google maps and yelp. They now close at 6 PM on weekdays and not 8PM per their website. The store manager seemed nice at first and let us browse through the furniture for 15 mins before he lost his patience visibly and rudely asked us to get out. He basically yelled to us and ordered us to leave. Fix your website and learn how to treat customers with respect. You think it's ok to make a customer waste 2 hours driving due to your negligence but don't bother waiting for 15 minutes to finalize a sale? I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I had a great experience buying through Scandinavian Designs. Customer service is top notch. I called to inquire about purchasing a bed frame here and was given detailed information and directions on how the process would go. I ultimately went into the De Anza store to view the bed frame in person (I'd been browsing online initially) and made my purchase in store. I actually came back the next day to take a second look and decided to change to a different color, and the sales person made that process incredibly easy. I picked up at the Blossom Hill location over the weekend through a scheduled pick up. They loaded my boxes into my van for me and I didn't lift a finger! It was a breeze. Prices here are good. Bought a set of sofa from them, w a couple coffee tables as bundle promotion. Sales people are good and friendly and they have quite a few of choices. It took a while for the items to come in due to covid. When the items were delivered, I found a minor defect in one of two coffee table tops. Email the sales person with a photo attachment, this top was reordered right away. Now it is all back and good. We were looking for coffee table (really table in front of the TV) that had a leaf that would pop up to normal table height. We'd seen some online and like to eat or use our laptops in front of the TV. Some other stores looked like they had them, but were miles away. The one we found at Scandinavian Designs was a bit more expensive, but was well constructed. For something with a moving hinge that we knew we'd use a lot, we wanted something well built. Waiman was very nice and helpful. He helped us order one. While they didn't have one in stock at our closest store, we were able to pick one up at the San Jose store for no delivery charge. I have an interior design firm in San Jose (Feng Shui Style) and HGTV called me last Tuesday afternoon about filming me for an upcoming episode of "Flip it to Win it", a show about flipping properties. They said they would like to come shoot the show at my office that Friday (i.e. in 3 days). I had been meaning to purchase 8 white Ovata chairs for my conference room, but hadn't gotten around to it. With HGTV coming, I knew the place had to look amazing. I called 4 different Scandinavian Designs stores to see if someone could help me out. They all said it was just too short notice to pull it off. (I even called Corporate Headquarters). Finally, I called the De Anza store *one more time*, hoping for a miracle. Well, I got one. Valdo answered the phone. He said he would make a call to Petaluma (the warehouse) and see what he could find. He managed to locate 27 of the chairs in Petaluma. He told me he would have them shipped to the San Carlos, CA warehouse, and go pick them up *on his day off* and *assemble them for me*. Once I got over the shock, I told him that I planned to name my first born after him. He warned me that his name was Valdo. I said I didn't care. Well, he made good on his promise. I finally got a promotion so "woop woop" the bonus money spending decision was decided :) I stopped by this location a couple times before finally deciding to get the bedroom furniture of our dreams. I needed to make sure there was not another set that we would enjoy. Sure, I had matched that timing up with a good sale. Call me savvy like that. I showed up on a weekend and walked around aimlessly because the set up had changed since my last visit. A couple times I said "hey, I would like to spend thousands of dollars here." Nada, nothing. I don't like shopping by myself so maybe I am a little paranoid. However, all of the families that were window shopping had someone helping them. I had finally decided to spend some cash and nobody wanted to take it! I finally found a salesperson at the counter and they were excited when they felt the weight of my credit card. I let them think it was awesome even though it is just a rewards card! The delivery time was short which is what I wanted. Who wants to wait a month for something they want right now? I gave specifics on the type of bed we have and delivery. I was told it was no problem. When the delivery people arrived, they were nice, but not too happy about the accommodations required for the bed (a tempurpedic that had to be built around because of the motion bottom part of it). I told them I noted it at purchase and they were very nice about it. I feel like the sales person over promised- lucky for him the delivery people were awesome and worked it out. Furniture- high quality! Sales- hmm, I will think about it. I do love the pieces at this store but may go to a different location. Four stars because the furniture is great and the delivery people worked hard to install my items but three overall for the little bit of sadness I had that nobody wanted to help me spend my cash! read more

Wide selection of home furnishings, I bought a microfiber couch that seats about 5 people for $1700, their wooden items are sturdy and have a great finish and has remained beautiful through the years. You get what you pay for here. I've noticed the prices have steadily gone up with inflation/covid, but IMO the prices are very reasonable for what you get, and there aren't any "going out of business" furniture scams going on here. You just get a decently made piece of furniture at a price fair for everyone involved. I really like coming in to see what they have. Customer service can be hit or miss, but I'm sure they get a lot of drive-by customers who don't really know what they want yet, and it can get kinda busy sometimes. Every time I need to buy new furniture I try to make a trip out here first. read more

This is a much more bare bones store than the one on Stevens Creek but they do carry different items so it is worth a look. For example, you won't see the more upscale and complete room displays, with all the accessories, here at the De Anza location as you will at the other store. Customer service has always been fine for me though, and I generally like Scandinavian Designs for their quality and aesthetic. I find their products to be more approachable in price and less formal than a very traditional furniture store, but of higher quality and more interesting design than someplace like Ikea. They are a nice, middle-ground type of option for people who are looking for something stylish at a reasonable price. I've purchased a sectional and entertainment center from them before and am currently looking at a loveseat and bedroom furniture so I'm definitely a repeat customer and will probably continue to be for the foreseeable future. read more

There're two Scandinavian Design stores within a 3 mile radius so I'd suggest visiting both. I bought most of my home furniture from the other location (Stevens Creek Blvd) even though I found most of what I wanted at this store because of a factory sale that they had. At this particular store, I found the salespeople to be either very helpful and friendly or the complete opposite. So, my visit to this store was more of a hit or miss whereas the store on Stevens Creek Blvd was more consistently friendly and helpful. The showroom at this location is just one big open space so it's easier to navigate but it is smaller than the other store (so less selection). Price-wise, you get what you pay for and though the prices at Scandinavian Design is higher than Ikea, Target or anything online (Wayfair, Overstock, Amazon) I'd say it's worth it if you can put down the investment. Of course, if you have money to blow then I'd recommend BoConcepts since I want to buy everything from that store. I'd wait till there's a sale and if you don't mind putting in a little bit of elbow grease then pick up a floor model if possible to save a bit more (got two floor lamps for cheap that way). I wish they had most (if not all) of their online products in store to see in person but it seems that from store to store they carry a slightly different inventory. read more

About 4 months ago I bought 4 swivel cushioned dining room chairs from Scandinavian Designs in Cupertino. I had tested them out in the store ahead of time and looked at others online. When the time came to purchase them the process was seamless. Everyone was helpful, delivery was on time, and the chairs are beautiful. Our last purchase was a L shaped couch from last year. After a lot of search again we found what we really liked only at Scandinavian Designs. They customized our order and delivered it promptly. This year we found that portion of the couch at the bottom was off however it did not affect the feel. We called them to see if someone could fix it for us. We were pleasantly surprised when they offered to replace the entire couch for free!! They promptly came with a new couch and took the old couch away! Worst furniture store ever - the sales representatives snobby and condescending here, especially an old lady sales whose name was Victoria. Victoria is such a racist snob that ignores Asian customers. When I came to the store, I saw here turning to white couples while an Asian couple talking to her. Great new location and showroom on Blossom Hill Rd. in San Jose. I've purchased from SD at their old location on Stevens Creek Blvd and had great sales and service. If you visit the new location, I recommend you do NOT work with Ron. Ron's not interested in the customer's needs. I purchased a small table, which was in the warehouse but would not be delivered to this location for pick-up for a full week. I asked Ron what time I could pick it up when it arrived the next Wednesday. He insisted he'd have to call me and make an appointment for pick-up. On that Wednesday, I tried to call him multiple times to confirm a pick-up time as I'd be in the area, the phones just rang. I was a few blocks from the store so I stopped in a few hours before their dock closed. Ron "informed" me that he hadn't called me yet for an appointment. I asked if perhaps I could just pick up the small table now since I was there. Nope, Ron had to call me to make an appointment. I drove the 10 miles back to my house, only to have Ron phone to schedule a pick up for the next day. Let me say, great customer service is when your customer waits a week for their delivery and when the customer comes to the store you say, "let me check with my dock to see if anyone can help you load that table into your car now, if not we'll get you scheduled for another convenient time". That's not Ron, nope, Ron has rules, not customer empathy or consideration. I highly recommend the Scandinavian Design store on Blossom Hill Rd., just DON'T work with Ron. read more
