I went to the hardware store portion of Scarborough Lumber and Building Supply this weekend and I was blown away. I've never encountered a more organized and well stocked shop. It was magical browsing through their superbly organized aisles. If you wanted hand soap - they must have had at least 10 different kinds. If you want mops - they have about 10 different ones. If you want a BBQ - they have a plethora of options. From art supplies, to cooking supplies, to hardware basics - and so much more - this place is a wonderland. My 20 year old Stihl MS290 just came back and is cutting like a brand new saw. I had to wait a little longer than I wanted to, but the performance of my saw makes up for the long wait. My go to hardware store for whatever I have ever needed to keep my home and my volunteers building maintenances going. I have found out, if you are looking for something or can't find something. Ask! This is my home port when it comes to hardware, tools, and lumber. I'm in Boulder Creek, so it's the easiest place to go, but it's also a really great store. First and foremost, the staff is awesome. Everyone is great, they are super helpful and pretty much always nice, and they really know answers to real questions. The prices are good, since they are part of ACE, and selection is good enough for most things. If I can't find what I like, I can go to the larger stores in Felton or Scotts valley (or even the big box store in Capitola), but I mostly don't need to. It's a great store with great people, decent prices, and way more selection than you might have expected given their somewhat small size. Love them, highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I've gone to Scarborough Lumber for over 35 years and they are one of the best hardware stores out there period. In Boulder Creek, we have the luxury of two hardware stores literally within a block of each other and both are really good when it comes to customer service, but Scarborough has a bigger staff and larger selection of merchandise as well as a limited lumber yard. I tip my hat to the staff at Scarborough for really knowing their stuff and if they don't know about it or have it in stock, they won't hesitate to find the answer for you or even direct you to their competition if they know they have it. I mean, come on, who does that? Home Depot? Think not. Lowes? Pffft! The staff is a great mix of seasoned hardware veterans and young folks, but regardless of who waits on you, they all go out of their way to help you find what you need and answer all of your home project questions. I seek out George if I know he's working. He's been there a long time and is flat out amazing when it comes to technical questions especially with electrical. Plus, he's the nicest, most down to earth person you'll ever run across with a TON of patience for even the stupidest questions (I know, because I ask a lot of them). Afterall, their other store, down the street, routinely sends me here for every little thing usreess that it doesn't carry - like a screwdriver. Great service, I went in to get some vacuum bags and some tack's for my pictures last week and was greeted immediately when I walked in the store. I think her name was Madison, nice girl, she asked what I was looking for and then walked me right to the right section where my items were. Very helpful. After that she rang me up and offered me a reward card, which I signed up for, very quick and easy. I will be returning for other home needs in the future for sure. read more

Pleased to review a recent visit to Scarborough Lumber in Boulder Creek, which I have been to many times over more than 40 years now. I was seeking a replacement hose for a sink sprayer. Unable to find the proper mate for a replacement hose only, I was offered some assistance from Scarborough staffer Carlos. It took some doing, but after unsuccessfully trying multiple sizes, and mating other nuts and fittings etc, for my odd sized fitting, Carlos stayed with it and finally found a complete replacement kit that matched. I was easily able to install it and now I'm a hero at home. As a long time customer I've found the staff very helpful and pleasant, but I was just particularly pleased with the assistance I had from Carlos and just want to say thanks. Howard read more

I am a new resident to Boulder Creek and am now living in the home of my dreams. Too bad all the yard improvements were not all ready lol. Off to Ace to start my new and now going to long relationship, I had been in there for this or that over the last six months nothing to exciting, stuff I knew and needed no help. Now it is spring and I want wait no need a garden with all this incredible sun I have (yes I know sun you say and in Boulder Creek, yes it is true) the garden must happen. Problems, 1. Gofers are on nuclear waste supplements and are hungry, huge and numerous as in every 4 feet gofer hole. 2. Need raised bed and want to buy the right stuff the first time to solve problem number 1. 3. Kind of know what I need but not really. I have been to the Ace over the last two weeks much time to get the CORRECT kind of wood, wire, hardware, tools I needed but did not own yet and I am kind of fussy about quality. I would rather pay more to get the best and the correct stuff. They all were great, from getting the correct wood and finding pieces I liked, ordering extra wire, helping me with finding the right hardware and many other misc. things. Very positive experience. You could go someplace else and maybe pay less but you're not going to get the high level of service from that place and it is close to home. read more

I have done business with Scarborough for years. The elder owner is very approachable, when he is in town. He really cares about his business. The managers and employees want to make sure that you are helped and leave with what you want. If they do not have it, they do not have an issue to tell you to go to Home Depot or Lowes. As this is a smaller volume business than the large chains, as you would expect there is a premium on their prices compared with driving over the hill. As expected, they have a much smaller selection than the big chains. Boulder Creek is a much smaller store than Ben Lomand, but if they have it in another store, they will call the store and put the item aside for you. Larry the manager@ Boulder Creek will give you a price break if you ask for it and buy enough volume. Good customer service, OK prices, OK selection. If you do not want to drive over the hill, this is a place for hardware. For bulk lumber, there is another business I prefer to buy from. If I am buying small quantities, I will come here.
