Really just a step up from Home Depot. The people are so friendly and willing to help you find exactly what you need. They'll not only direct you to where to find the item you need but take you there and give you suggestions on how to help your projects. For relatively same price as Home Depot, it's a no brainer to come here. This is also one of the only in person stores to have seal coat. read more

I've been going to Los Gatos Ace Hardware since moving to town in 1984 - there's always someone to help me find what I need. This week, though, Zach went above and beyond the "normal" helpfulness and bailed me out of a problem I'd caused by my own stupidity. I needed to replace the bulbs in a couple of ceiling-mounted light fixtures that had originally been installed by electricians 10 years ago. When I looked at the fixture, the only way I could see to take it down was to remove the screws in the recessed holes you can see in the photo. Naturally, I dropped one of the screws and couldn't find it, so I went to Ace to get a replacement. They didn't have the screw I needed (it was some very obscure size), but Zach offered to use his tap and die set to convert the hole so I could use a standard 15-cent screw - the only catch was he couldn't do it until the next morning. My wife found the missing screw in the lint filter this morning, so I thought I'd be able to put everything together (I'd taken the rings apart). I couldn't figure out how to do it, so I took the parts back to Ace; Zach spent 15 minutes putting the fixture back together - NO CHARGE. Most stores would have sold me a new fixture or charged for their time (or both). Not Los Gatos Ace Hardware, and not Zach - and that's why I've been going there since 1984. By the way, the right way to remove the fixture is to loosen the finials at the top of each of the gizmos that holds the rings together (see second photo). No tools required. Zach told me that, too...which is good, because I have more light bulbs to replace! read more

This is my go to Ace Hardware store. It's small, but I usually find what I need here. The plant selection in summer is really good. Nice plants, good quality. Prices can be a bit high, but not too too bad. Soil selection is excellent and they carry all my fav fertilizers. Great brand options. Service is super hit and miss. I've had some experiences where they're quite helpful and friendly. I needed to find some dripper system parts once and the guys who helped me were amazing. Some have the personalities of wet mops and clearly hate their jobs... and customers. read more

I went to the store today to pick up my item that I've bought online since I couldn't pick it up yesterday. The old guy with white hair who helped was very unprofessional, dismissive, and rude for handling the order. I received an email that the order was ready for pick up. My order wasn't prepared at all, he didn't verify my ID, and he just pulled the item off the shelf as if no pickup order existed. Then one of his colleagues asked if it was an online order. He then discussed my order with another employee right in front of me, incorrectly stating that it wasn't an online order because I had called the day before to check stock even though I clearly had a pickup confirmation email. The whole situation felt disrespectful and gave off very uncomfortable racist energy!! I won't be coming back to this location. I'd advise others to shop somewhere else. read more

You guys, I have never stepped into an Ace Hardware except when shopping for flowers to garden with my mom way back when. As someone who works on cosplay, there are numerous suggestions and materials necessary to achieve armor sheen/appearance with simple crafting foam! I was in such a pinch and I needed plastidrip and a mask that would shield my nose and mouth from the fumes. Plastidrip would take ages to ship to my home, and I needed this ASAP! I searched online where it would be sold near me, and this Ace location was the nearest one. I ordered online for pickup in store and surprisingly the wait time was promised at 15 minutes (I was 8 min away at a nearby location)! So convenient! I ordered two cans because I had no clue how big they were or how much I'd need them for my 'armor'. When I came in, I was greeted immediately! I was searching for the mask aisle to find the best fit. An associate offered to help me and he gave me great recommendations and was knowledgeable in products to help me find my ideal mask. When I asked him about an online pick up order he recognized my product and brought it over to me - my trip here was extremely short, but helpful and convenient! The store is so well organized and neat that you'll have no trouble comparing different products, and the prices are fair too. I wish I got his name since he was very personable and made an untrained eye like me feel welcome and empowered with my projects. Easily earned me as a customer for sure. read more

My neighborhood hardware store. I prefer this to Home Depot or Lowes where it is hard to get help and when you do, more often than not, it's from a grumpy employee. Definitely not the experience here. They are super knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and professional. I always get through to a live person quickly when I call which feels like a miracle these days. Placed an online order on the app. One of the items in the order was "Caulking Caps, 1 pk". The picture on the app is a box of caps. When I picked up the order, they gave me 1 single individual cap wrapped in a loose plastic bag. I politely told them I ordered a 1 pk of caps, not a single cap, they looked at the picture on the app and they looked at my printed receipt which they had printed and brought out with the rest of my order, which literally reads "Caulking Caps, 1 pk". Even when confronted with that, the employee then told me I was wrong, all they were going to give me was 1 individual cap. I had to go pick up my kids, so didn't have time to argue or escalate further as this is a small amount of money, but I was a bit perturbed, and as I was leaving, I am thinking to myself, isn't there a bait and switch thing going on here? There is always someone to help you, even if you are me and you bring in a random, weird plastic piece when your shower head decided to break, and go "Errr...Hi, do you have anything like this here broken shower thingus? Halp!(shrug)IDunnoLOLWUT" Even if they don't have exactly that specific weird plastic showerhead thingus, they will go above and beyond to help you out and try to find a solution. Every single time I walk into Ace Hardware, Los Gatos, the staff always seems to remember me and always offering to help with the tiniest of requests. Usually it's that I just want to know where an item is located, and I much rather do this at this hardware store than a bigger hardware store, because they almost always have what I need and it's so nice and easy. Last week, Chris, the manager, even donated some older keys that we used at the local elementary school for earth week to make recycled art for the school garden. He was super thoughtful and picked out the cutest keys. The kids really enjoyed that activity. I use Ace Hardware Los Gatos for all of my "last minute" school gardening project supplies because it's easy to run in and grab a plant or some seeds - or a trowel - and then go without a lot of looking around. They also have good home organizing supplies so I skip the bigger stores near the mall because Ace has it all! Thank you! From the beginning of CoVid this ACE took action with mandated social distancing, they cleaned your carts before the grocery stores started, they also limit amount of people in the store and they wipe down the counter and the credit card machine after EVERY USE!! I was looking for a place to recycle my single use AA/AAA/D/C batteries. In the past I would take them to the office to be recycled but have not been in the office since March 2020. I called ahead to confirm that they would take them. I dropped them off at the front counter and that was it. They also took the fluorescent bulbs I had. This is the second time I have been to this ACE. I came back due to the exceptional service from the employees. They are very friendly and helpful. Today, I walked in 40 minutes before closing, looking confused as hell in the hardware section when an employee asked if I needed help. I said yes and explained I needed washers for a project on my car. He walked out to my car with me to help me determine the material type and size I needed to make my project work. He was so helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Businesses need to hire more people like this. I was fully ready to write a 5-star review about this place based on just the customer service I received today. However, you need to re-train your managers. I'm assuming he's a manager because this guy was wearing a black shirt. The manager reprimanded this employee, who was helping me figure out some other fasteners I need for a future project, in front of me. This is highly unprofessional. He should have waited for me to leave, or for the employee to go back inside. This employee should have been praised for his work, not reprimanded. This interaction with the manager has left me feeling guilty that I accepted this employee's help. The management and this business, as a whole, need to do better about how they treat their employees, especially in front of their customers. From previous reviews, it seems like the employees are the reason people choose this ACE over other stores that are more convenient. I truly hope this ACE does better and re-trains their managers on proper interactions with their employees. read more
