Where to begin. Hella Amazing. If you're looking for an entertaining house club, and can deal with large crowds. This place is it. First of all, organization. There's three bars, well staffed, so you're attended to at every angle. I didn't have to wait long for a server, within a crowd of what seems like 500 plus. Theres entertainment at every corner too, that keep you engaged in the fun. The efficiency, even the kindness of the servers, combined with the placement of entertainers, made the experience great. Very well done team. Second of all, production value and theatrics. Walking into Scarlett is other worldly. The entertainers, are so talented and unique. The dj's were hella good. You have light shows, a woman dancing mid air, and guy go-go dancers to entertain the crowd leading up to the main event. Which, oh my god. Top notch. Five stars for each entertainer, I throughly enjoyed their performance. This venue is perfect, and the team uses the space to their advantage. Combine that with quality performances. Pros: One of my FAVORITE places to go dancing, music is versatile up beat and always has you swaying or bouncing. Three different rooms to provide for different crowds. Occasional drag shows on weekends, etc. $4 water beats $6. All the dancers, bartenders, security and staff has always been accommodating and nice. Cons: only reason I dislike. if your dancing near stages be ware the smoke machine, they blow it like crazy sometimes and I literally feel I could pass out. Also floor gets super slippery when drinks are split. I'm in converse a lot of the time there and even with those in feel my foot slip here and there. Tips: Leave anywhere from a hour to half hour before they close at 2am. Lyft and Uber prices sky rocket and it can take anywhere up to 30 minutes for a driver to arrive. Pretty fun place, great music to dance to. We had some friends in town and he wanted to go to this club where some other friends of his were heading. I've seen a lot of events here, cabaret /drag. We came for the drag show which was a lot of fun and humorous. The host was great, music, outfits and dancing to. After the show the club went into full dance mode. For a small venue they have a pretty cool lighting and laser system and great sound system. We stayed for about a half hour after the show but didn't have too much energy to dance away into the night after a long day, plus, had to take the dog out. So we parted ways and headed home. FINALLY a dance club here in Hawaii like the ones I would frequent on the mainland. I remember when I first moved out to Hawaii permanently, one of the most noticeable things lacking were good dance clubs. I tried them all - too pretentious, too dirty, too small, bad music. You name it, there were plenty of turn-offs. I remember when this building was SoHo and the Fix. Nothing compared to this. Fast-forward to the new era of Scarlet. I was lucky enough to be a VIP at the Grand Opening of this amazing venue and spent most of it in the dollhouse. In fact, most of the time when I go, it's spent in the dollhouse. I met Traver (one of the owners) before the club even opened when he attended my beloved CabaRAE. He was so down-to-earth and gave me his number right away! The DJs: The resident DJ, DJ Luna, is THE man! He's one of my top 3 DJs on the island! His mixes are amazing and so eclectic! One minute I'll be listening to Rihanna and The Biebs and the next will be Whitney Houston and Gloria Gaynor! His beats keep my feet moving and my heart pumping. I never leave without a soaking wet shirt. The bartenders: Dayum. Whether you prefer guys or girls (yes, they are straight-friendly), there's eye candy for everyone. Not only that, they're not stingy with their alcohol. You pay for a tasty adult beverage. They have really revamped the place. What used to be the women's bathroom is now the men's. But alas...there's a pretty pink hallway with single private bathroom stalls complete with sink and large mirror to, you know, make sure your make-up and hair are on fleek. You can also reserve VIP tables. There's my favorite, the dollhouse, which is upstairs and overlooks the dance floor and is sure to keep you entertained. It has a large plastic couch that resembles, well, a dollhouse couch. In fact, damn near the entire dance floor area is dollhouse themed. I won't spoil it for those who haven't been, but keep your eye on the walls ;) I reserved the dollhouse for my birthday and the staff was extremely attentive! Always checking to make sure our mixers were full and replenishing our glasses. There's also a couple of VIP areas downstairs next to the DJ booth. More recently, they opened the Tiki room with its own bar, bathroom, seating area, and stage where they have frequent drag shows. Be sure to bring your cash as these ladies and gentlemen know how to work it! Man oh man, I could go on and on about how awesome this place is! But I want you to experience it for yourself. My favorite night to go is Saturday. OH! If you're a fan of RuPaul's Drag Race, check frequently as every month, they have a star from the show as a celebrity guest! I usually park in the lot next to Mark's Garage when I drive. I personally like Ubering it :) Don't forget, Scarlet is almost always a participant in all the Chinatown bar crawls! I'd recommend anyone steer clear of this bar if they are planning to have a fantastic time in Oahu. New personal goal is to make sure whomever was booked between 1245 and 2 will never have a booking anywhere on the mainland. We love Scarlet Honolulu and that's why my daughters friends decided to do her Bachelorette Party there with bottle service. I was a great night and fun was had by all. Until one of her guest went into the women's restroom and fell, there were puddles of water on the floor.Her arm hurt like hell but she figured it was from the fall til as the evening progressed it was harder to move her arm. So she comes home we convince her to get it checked out since she's here visiting with a 7 month old baby. Well she fractured her elbow. Now she's trussed up and going to need rehab. As the only remaining gay dance bar in Hawaii, I hate to give such a poor review. They don't really care about customer service because they kind of have a monopoly on the gay scene right now. They just renovated and it is an improvement for sure. My problem with them is their organization and staff. The girls that collect the cover at the entrance are rude and misinformed about their own policies. I reserved a table for my birthday. I was late but I was assured that I had indeed been able to secure an appointment. However, when my party and I got to the door, the rude girl said our names weren't on the guest list and forced us to pay a cover. I will keep it civil but she used some very unprofessional words. This was my birthday mind you. Anyways, when we got inside, the table service boy confirmed that we had the table. But then he kicked us off and said we didn't and then he said we did. Basically we ended up paying for a table PLUS a cover charge for 8 people. These Scarlet Queens are thieves y'all. This club is also hot AF and I believe it is intentional so they can get more drinks out of you. Just dress like a ho and stay hydrated. Despite my negative experience, I am going to be forced to come here as I have already mentioned, they are the only gay dance bar worth going to anymore. On Saturdays, all the other gay clubs will be empty save for Scarlet. Hopefully some competition opens up soon so they are forced to actually deliver decent customer service. read more

Hellloooo, Scarlet! Why have I only heard about you 5 days ago?!?! Friends, I have an addiction. I love watching RuPaul's Drag Race. Love the Queens & will readily bow to any of those lovely ladies. In my sheltered life, I did not know of any place other than Hula's to see any of these beauties. I mentioned it one day to an acquaintance & she said one word, Scarlet. Fast forward to Black Friday night and I'm standing in front of a stage staring at some of the most BEAUTIFUL people I have ever seen. (I seriously started questioning how I could get my body to look like theirs) Scarlet is located across the street from Hawaii Theatre on Pauahi Street. You can park on the street (check the signs) or Mark's Garage. There is a pay on your own lot nearby as well, but I don't know the rates. Chinatown Municipal lots, but I am not sure they run that late. Or early, depending on your time in the club. I was invited on this particular night because some of the drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race were supposed to make an appearance. They were performing at a Christmas show at the Hawaii Theatre. We got there around 11pm and the place was only 1/3 full. This allowed me to take it all in. The place is in 2 sections. Once you pay your cover and get your stamp, you walk into a large hall. There is a stage directly in front of you where the DJ is set up. The 1st bar in on your left. You walk in a bit and there is a large room on your right. There is the Pineapple Stage and the ropes off area for the bottle service seating. That area had their own dance pole. And their own dancer. And he was AWESOME!!! There is the 2nd bar and 2 gender neutral bathroom rooms. We hung out and danced in front of the Pineapple Stage. I didn't understand why we weren't in the bigger dance area, but seeing as I was a guest, I just hung out with the crowd. Glad I did because the show that the FABULOUS male dancer gave on the pole was mind blowing! An hour later, the show started. And boy do I mean a show! These Queens pulled out all the stops. I mean my SnapChat Story was running non-stop. Their beauty, outfits, makeup, dance moves were freakin' AMAZING. Later, Thorgy Thor passed right by & I was star struck! Not wanting to try & interrupt the Drag Race Star, our group went to dance in the main hall. The music was perfect the whole night. The club had dancers on scaffolding & the stage. The atmosphere was hyped and perfect. I was able to dance and talk to people without feeling that vibe that I sometimes get at clubs or bars. You may know it as the, "I am not here to meet someone so please don't feel I owe it to you to make polite conversation" vibe. None of that here! Although I didn't come for a specific show, Scarlet does have shoes and celebrities come in. The next night Alaska was scheduled. I unfortunately could not make it. I would say that this is a super straight-friendly gay club. About half the attendees are probably straight women in bachelorette or birthday parties. Seems like a pretty young crowd in the 20's and 30's age group. Drinks were ok, I asked for a margarita but they didn't have salt. Really? The drag show was great though the crowd doesn't seem to know how to behave around drag queens. They were grabbing the performers and being a bit rude (sitting on the stage, putting drinks on the runway, etc). A good handful looked like they were on a bit too much ecstasy. The space seems pretty big and has fun decor. Music was a bit too loud and definitely too much on the cold techno side for me. Kind of like rave-y music if you like that. I had my credit card charged incorrectly after closing out my tab for the night. I knew for a fact that I only had one drink, and I could clearly recall the exact amount of tip I left the bartender with, so it came as a surprise when an incorrect charge came through two days later. It may have been an innocent mistake, but a few extra dollars was taken from my account despite me leaving a completely acceptable & adequate amount in tip. I had left the merchant receipt on the counter with the written tip and tab total, and the credit card charge I had received did not match my tab total. Im quite confident that the weak pineapple vodka I was served had not dimmed this part of my memory. My friend also had his card charged incorrectly, but his seemed to be accidental. Clubs are inevitably loud and hectic, making it difficult to communicate with the bartenders which is understandable. I also understand the need to work quickly when serving, but I wish they could be more careful and thorough when dealing with people's money. Fortunately for my friend, he had his issue resolved because he noticed the incorrect amount of drinks charged to him, realizing he paid for someone else's tab. It's unfortunate that there was no contact number provided by Scarlet to resolve the issue, especially for those like myself who are only visiting the island. Despite this incident, Scarlet is a fun and entertaining night club. The crowds were great (lots of people in a small area so it's HAWT), and the music will get you hyped. Right off the bat, the door man/bouncer dude wanted to stamp my arm, but he didn't speak his big boy words, so I just left my arm hanging there. Parking was easy. It happened to be first Friday and the Downtown WalMart had $7 flat rate until 1am. That's only a two block walk. The sound system cannot handle the heavy bass. Reminds me of the distorted sounds emanating from the mini trucks cruising Ala Moana with a cheaper stereo cost than their rims. No cover before 10pm, saved some tip money there! The bar had no wine for sale. No wine???? Um, ok. The place was empty, but we were early. Picked up at 10pm. The "drag" show didn't start at ten, but it was ok, Hawaiian Time. The emcee was great, but the acts were lacking. Two performers didn't lip sync to accurately, but maybe my standards are too high because of LL Cool Jay's show. The other two were okay, not very impressive. Maybe the Saturday show is better. The DJ was very good, the dance floor was packed and the laser lights were amazing. The gogo dancers were talented and responded positively with all patrons and tippers. Overall, a fun night, not epic. This was one night, though, I would return. I love that you need a vaccine card to be able to go in. I would also suggest you buy your tickets online so there isn't a gathering at the door. I have always said that this is the only club on island that compares to Europe or mainland clubs and I am pleased to say even after the pandemic it still holds that title! You have to buy your tickets in advance and have your vaccination cards and they don't play around with that which definitely made me feel safer. The music, the lighting, the CAGES, it's everything. The bartenders are always super nice and friendly and all the stuff there is so wonderful and helpful. I lost a wallet outside of the venue and they kept it safe for me and were super accommodating! Weakest vodka soda I've ever had AND with no lime (I had to wait until after the bartender served someone else to get his attention again for a lime). Bartenders were not friendly and were very curt; the same can be said for the crowd. Scarlett's only saving grace was the DJ, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. Came here last night for the Mardi Gras pub crawl and LOVED IT. At first I wasn't sure if we were going to stay because it looked empty, that that was because all the excitement was happening in the beach boy room (not sure if that is what it is called but there were surf boards, a grass shack themed bar, and a giant tiki!!!!!) The bartenders and servers were super nice and welcoming- made sure our cups were full and we were satisfied. The entertainment was like nothing we experienced at the other bars- they had everything from pole dancing, to a light show, and some sensual tango. The cushions were comfy and bathrooms spacious and clean- really nothing to complain. I mentioned earlier that it looked empty- that is because the venue is big and the other side, decorated with a more modern angsty feel has a large dance floor next to a wrap around bar. A friend had his birthday here, and I can see why. This place was just full of ENERGY, and you could feel it the moment you walk in. Located just around the corner from JJ Dolans, in that little dead-end street by the HPU buildings, just follow the small crowd of people and youll find your way there. Its best to park in Mark's Garage, but be forewarned that they close at midnight, so if youre planning to stay there and party all night, just look for street parking. We went on a Friday, and cover charge was $10; no wait time. I dont think there was a dress code, since people were all dressed differently (some fancy fancy in cute dresses, others in just plain tanks and jeans). This place is huge compared to the clubs I've been to recently! There are two large rooms, one of which has a small room that goes upstairs. Both rooms have stages. Theres a huge bar to your left when you walk in, but theres also another in the room on the right. There were gorgeous males dancing as well :) The music just seemed to hype everyone up; everyone seemed to be in a good mood, dancing their hearts out. It was also easy to get a drink, which was nice. There were a couple of performers, whom performed in different areas ( on the stage in the right room, and one upstairs by the balcony). It made it easy for a lot of people to see/watch, which was nice. The Good: -Vibe: Everyone seemed to be having fun which was great. :) -The music: Played a couple of different types of music (ranging from techno-ish to oldies, to current hits), but they were all really good choices. Def made me want to dance! -The venue: lots of space! Its nice to not have to bump into everyone in a club for once. The Bleh: -It was hot T__T Even though it wasnt necessarily PACKED, there just wasnt any cross ventilation. I've tried quite a few places in my search for some place I could actually have fun - because a lot of places turned out to be complete busts! Noisy, boring, crowded, obnoxious...not Scarlet! So many places I don't even feel comfortable dancing because it's just an awkward hump fest as people scurry to find their end of night companions, but you really can have fun at Scarlet. The bartenders are also better than a lot of places I've been. The discussion in town has been that it's a little pricier than other Chinatown bars, but the drinks tend to taste better and be larger - but not as strong as at other gay bars (Lol, I didn't know that was a thing, but that's the big pout I get from pals). And the price of drinks is worth the trade off because you won't need to go go anywhere else. Absolute LOOOOOOVE! The best place I've been to since I started going out to town! The atmosphere is everything! The music is perfect the bartenders are so personable and make the best drinks! (The best cranberry back I have ever had!) and the men!!! Friday nights are a must! And trust me when I tell you BRING THEM DOLLAS! CaraMel and the boys will have you emptying your bank accounts!!! But you can't miss Saturday either ! The show is the best I've seen!! And the celebrity appearances have me gaaaagging! Especially for all you RuPaul fans! Straight, Gay. You need to come here!!!
