We came here based on a recommendation and were excited to try this café. The location is beautiful, with a lovely view and a very nice atmosphere. We're staying less than five minutes walk from this restaurant for a month, so I decided to stop by with my son this afternoon while my husband got some much needed rest. We arrived after the lunch rush, and about half the restaurant was empty. Despite the many available tables, we were asked to sit at the bar. No problem, I figured they might be short staffed. We took our seats, looked through the menu, and waited for someone to help us. During that time, several servers and staff walked past us to deliver food to the guests on either side of us, but not a single person acknowledged us. The guest sitting next to me received her meal just as we sat down. 20 minutes later, after she had finished eating, we decided to get up and leave because no one had ever come over to greet us, take our order, or even give us water. Even on our way out, no one acknowledged us, not even the person who sat us down at the bar! If you want to know what it feels like to be completely invisible, this is the place to visit. We ended up trying another restaurant just a block away, where we received prompt, friendly service despite a long line of customers and a much busier dining room. My husband had been looking forward to trying Lulu's loco moco, but with so many excellent restaurants in Waikiki, I don't see any reason to waste our time giving this place another chance. read more

As a local, I highly recommend this small business. It wasn't the food that sold me, it was the generosity of giving back to the service employees. I forget what the discount is, but I just know that you are a service employee who works in Hawaii, they offer you a discount on your order; and that's how you bring in business and build loyalty with no just tourists, but locals as well. First off, I neeever heard of Lulu's before, but apparently it's been around for years and is a staple in Hawaii/Waikiki. It's definitely someplace that knows their main clientele will probably be 99% tourists so that may be why I never thought of it. But after today, I'll for sure recommend it to people who ask for a good place to eat and don't mind being in Waikiki. The view is amazing! It's got a panorama of Waikiki beach and the weather was beautiful when we went. I don't know what it's like in the winter time or when it's really windy, but we were sure blessed with good weather. I wonder if it gets hot here since the windows are always open? Strangely enough, I got a pasta. Why? Personally, it's because I was very protein heavy throughout the day and I figured, why not start with the most random item! Who needs a local dish??? We came back again. For the most part, another good experience. The kids had some great mocktails, a guava drink and a smoothie. I ordered and conquered the spicy poke bowl again. Comparing the pictures, the portion was not quite as big and the wonton not quite as crispy, but still pretty good. I had some sort of blue Hawaiian drink, which was good. One child had some nice shrimp pasta, although they accidentally brought chicken pasta first. The other had some amazing chicken tenders tossed in the delicious BBQ sauce with some really good fries. The stir fry, on the other hand was a bit bland and lukewarm at best. The view is nice and this place is popular, so making a reservation is probably best on a Friday night before the fireworks. We lucked out and arrived in time to get a spot right away, but a few minutes later we would have had a long wait. Also, I guess the lunch and dinner menu are different, so there was a bit of a disappointment that some food, like the quesadillas were not available. We had a gift certificate for Lulus, so we decided to give it a try. As a local, I don't love coming into Waikiki, but parking was easy and affordable on a Sunday at the zoo. The restaurant is located on the second floor with entrances on both the Kalakaua and Kapahulu sides. We came for a late lunch around 2pm. The restaurant wasn't super crowded, but we still had to wait around for a table. For three of us, we shared the Lulu moco and fish and chips. The Lulu moco was loaded, and I loved how there was both beef and kalua pig on it. The gravy was delicious and a hefty portion. The fish and chips were solid as well. There were plenty of options for everyone in our family, including great gluten-free choices. Made reservations for a group of nine for our first night in Waikiki, and it was more than I expected. He was friendly and had GREAT recommendations that were AMAZING!! Mrs. picante and I got away for a shared milestone birthday this year without the kids, and enjoyed a few days in Waikiki. One could argue that is due largely to their substantial gluten-free menu, and her recent celiac diagnosis. Our drinks never ran dry, and they checked in on us just the right number of times. On two of our visits, we sat at the counter overlooking the street below, with a beautiful view of Waikiki Beach. My diet experienced a sudden, painful, and calorie related death somewhere between a breakfast of mochi pancakes, and a subsequent visit that watched me consume a moco Loco. I thought the beat salad was absolutely delightful, and probably the healthiest thing I ate during my trip to Hawaii. You can't beat the burgers, and here they have one that comes with a big thick juicy patty, and a big pile of pulled barbecue pork. Do not come here on a diet.
