Good food but dessert? Who puts frosting on cheesecake? Way too sweet. Covering up that is was old?

It is a universally acknowledged truth that while tasty, Olive Garden is an Americanized/bastardized imitation of genuine Italian cuisine. That being said, you'll get more authentic Italian food at an Olive Garden than you will here. The bruschetta was just diced tomatoes on little slices of toast and a thick slice of cheese. No olive oil, absolutely no garlic, and no salt. I've never heard of an Italian restaurant that didn't use so much as a clove of garlic. I saw a little fleck of basil here and there, but it was essentially flavorless. I ordered the Alfredo and when it came out it tasted like burnt rubber and was inedible. The house Italian salad dressing tasted like pizza sauce with a lot of vinegar mixed in and was disgusting. Honestly it seemed like whoever put together the menu has never eaten Italian food before. Either that, or their aversion to garlic and flavor in general can only explained by vampirism. That might actually explain the lack of mirrors come to think of it. The service was also lackluster. Our waiter was civil but was visibly irritated when my party of three requested separate checks and even more so when one of us requested a salad without cheese due to an allergy. The atmosphere was nice, but when we mentioned the lack of cell reception we were told they opted for a decorative tin panel ceiling that blocks cell reception. Why that was a choice is unclear but it seems it was done on purpose which seems odd. Probably so people won't be able to Google what Italian food is supposed to taste like. We had an excellent evening at Scarpetta's, both service, food, and ambiance. The Italian gem of a restaurant is located in historic downtown Fremont. The main dining area is filled with colorful large scale artwork, ambient lighting, and there are beautiful thick marble-topped tables, and some booths are in an elegant cozy crescent shape. Our party of 5 included a gentleman in a wheelchair, and the hostess was very kind to configure the seating to best fit his wheelchair, and allow everyone to have ample room at the table. The hostess, Elisa and our waitress Alora were the perfect service personnel, very kind, warm and professional. The food was an Italian delight, and cooked to perfection. Upon being seated we were promptly brought waters with lemon and rustic bread with herbed olive oil. The French onion soup was a knockout in flavor, onions and overall quality. The mozerella cheese was flame-seared just prior to serving.. Among the best FO soup II have had. The dinner salad was a generous serving; crispy and fresh with tomatoes, onions, and olives. Three guests ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, and they all agreed the sauce was outstanding and the portions came in plentiful deep- dish rimmed bowls. Two guests ordered chicken scallopini and it was very good and hot with linguine and red onions and a nice sauce. While between the five of us, we ordered repeats of the same meals, the entree and appetizer menu had an impressive variety of Italian dishes from which to make our choices. Scarpetta's is well worth the drive from nearly anywhere in Northwest Ohio, and rivals the best there, and even in Chicago! Get there before 6 and enjoy a vary nice happy hour for drinks and appetizers. This was our third time here, and each visit exceeded our expectations and memory. We will return! You will not be sorry after enjoying an authentic Italian meal at at beautiful Scarpetta's restaurant. Our after-meal coffees were superb as well. read more

My daughter and I went for lunch. The food wasn't hot, the marinara sauce had cinnamon in it, and the Alfredo was mediocre at best. It says 2 entrees for a certain price but that means 1/2 portion of 2 entrees for that price. Sure doesn't say that on the menu. First I love to note great service & ambiance. Our server Brittany J did a wonderful job right down to a wine pairing suggestion for dinner course for 1/2 price bottle of La Crema Pinot Noir on Tuesday! Atmosphere is always date night nice, classy and upscale, both opted jeans and a nice tops. Leave those PJ pants at home for fast food I love the cheesy deliciousness of huge slices lightly fried eggplant parm with a side of spaghetti. Hubs never goes wrong with spaghetti & meatballs, a great sprinkle of parm on top. I am featuring appetizers in this post, we had Calabrian shrimp which I paired with an great tasting Italian Cosmo. Attached a picture, sadly I forgot to capture before hubs ate one. The bread underneath picked up the spicy oil deliciousness. We also had Maryland crab cakes, although some comment that they are on the smaller side as there only 3. However, I was very pleased with the sweet quality of the crab without a ton of breading, so it was well worth it to me not to get a "chain" prepared crabcake. I had French onion soup & hubs a beautiful salad with plenty of blue cheese he asked for, both came with our entrees. Worth noting, happy hour is M-Sa 4-6 and you can't beat the pricing on some well prepared delights, restaurant opens at 4! We ate early 4:15 and plenty of seating, however I'd recommend calling a few days ahead for reservations, as this place gets busy. Scarpetta's - Calabrian Shrimp on toasts & Italian Cosmo - Italian Near Me - Fremont, Ohio

We ordered crabcakes that were tiny and tasted of nothing but horseradish. The lobster roll is a damn joke. You have at least an inch thick piece of toasted bread between mostly celery and a miniscule amout of lobster. Not only was this extremely difficult to eat but it also was bland and tasted like bread and celery. Highway robbery at $16.00. We also ordered the mushroom buttons which were actually timehe size of buttons, overcooked to the point they were nearly black and to make matters worse they were cold. I had the pasta carbonara which as you'll see from the photo it must have sat waiting and started drying out. The lack of sauce caused the pasta to stick to itself. It was bland and lacked seasoning. So much so that adding salt didn't really help it any. The sea bass was great, as was the salad and tomato soup. Those where the only dishes that really stood out from all the others. We also had scallops which were decent. The pasta that came with the chicken parm was dry and bland as well. I had high hopes based on the previous reviews but sadly this place charges high end prices for small portions equal to the amount of seasoning in their dishes. read more

Above regular dining prices but nothing like their food, our waitress Alora was the best, knowing what you need before you ask. Restaurant ambiance is pleasing for being in an old downtown building. We found Scarpettas on Yelp and stopped by for dinner last nite. Nice homely restaurant w friendly staff. Had the crab sliders, beet salad , sesame crusted tuna, porcini steak and Parmesan wedges for appetizers. Really good portions and yes we were starving n they were delicious n we cleaned the plates. The warm bread was good too. Had lobster risotto, eggplant Parm n chicken parm as entrees. We enjoyed them too n for that sweet tooth shared a choc cake. All in all the food was good. My mom and I were I'm the mood for Italian so we sent to Scarpettas. There were two other couples in there when we arrived for lunch. The limited menu items were a little disappointing but we decided to stay anyway and ordered Chicken Parmesan and speghetti and meatballs. The waitress took our order, then 5 min later came back to verify our order. 15 min later, she brings us lasagna and spaghetti with 1 meatball about 1 inch in diameter. If we wanted more meatballs they were $1.75 each. The Spaghetti and meatball was cold. The waitress took the lasagna back and gave my mom the cold spaghetti and 1 meatball. 15 min had past, and I still didn't have the Chicken Parmesan. We settled our check and the waitress slung the folder that had my moms card and the receipts in it which made moms credit card drop to the floor and did not attempt to pick it up. She said she was having a bad day. Also- I believe the owner was sitting at the bar no more than 25 feet from all this happening. He didn't inquire about anything. The food was fantastic worth the 50 min. drive from my home. I had the chicken marcella it was perfect! The pasta was just right and the gravey was amazing! My date had the chicken piccata it was perfect also Drinks were very good just a little pricey. The house wine was exceptional and reasonably priced. The waitress was great! Found this great place for dinner before we went to the Haunted Hydro. It's an Italian foodie's place, for sure. 4 1/2 stars on Yelp so we tried it. The atmosphere gave us an old/New Vegas vibe. The textures and detail of the decor were impressive. It was cool! The service was stellar. Mark had an apricot brandy sour and I had a berry mule. Fine crafted cocktails were spot on fantastic. For apps we had the arrancini and deconstructed bruschetta. Duck soup for Mark, simple yet tasty green salad for me. Entree was the Special ~ braised shortrib with the creamiest polenta ever. I tried what I always get at a new (to me) Italian restaurant- Spaghetti with meatballs. The sauce was a bolognese. Simple, yet amazing. This place opened in 2017. Downtown Fremont is making a comeback. That's exciting to see! We'll definitely go back! read more

Spouse and I ventured to Downtown Fremont around 7:30p.m. on New Year's Eve looking for a place to have dinner. We showed up at Scarpetta's with no reservation and were happy to find out that they'd be able to seat us on such a busy evening if we would be willing to wait for a bit. We obliged and are so glad we did. While we waited for our table, I soaked in the stunning decor: copper ceilings, rich colors and textures of the walls and furniture, all beautifully lit. As we listened to the musician playing Italian accordion classics, the house manager, Colin, was attentive and even brought me a soda. It was fun to watch the hustle and bustle at the pizza oven and bar, and our wait was quickly over. We were seated at an elegant booth, just the two of us, with a view of the length of the restaurant. Our waitress, Eileen, was perfectly gracious, and took care of our every need. I really can't say enough about how impeccably professional yet friendly she was. We started with a tender calamari appetizer (which Colin treated us to for having to wait for a table), a creamy mushroom soup for me and a tomato bisque for my husband. All were absolutely delicious and served with a round of bread and olive oil. My one recommendation of the evening would be for the kitchen to slice this loaf and provide some parmesan with the olive oil. The bread was delectably crusty, but difficult to tear, and the olive oil alone, though of high quality with the desired fruitiness one would expect, was not enough to complement the bread. I think grated parmesan and fresh black pepper sprinkled over the olive oil would have added a good saltiness and umami that the bread lacked. My porterhouse steak arrived rare and hot, just as I had ordered, with a peppery butter that complimented the simplicity of a superb, tender steak. It was served with a rustic garlic mashed potato and steamed asparagus, making a beautiful and balanced plate. My husband likes to try new dishes and ordered the rabbit, which he loved. It came with a large portion on the bone along with more pieces in a thick stew of red potatoes, carrots, and fava beans. After all this, we had no room for dessert, so we ordered tiramisu to go. At home later, we found the dessert to be prepared in the traditional manner, a sponge cake soaked in rich espresso along with sweetened marscapone, whipped cream, and chocolate. I really enjoyed it, especially since it was not overly sweet like some other less authentic tiramisu I've encountered elsewhere. Our meal before tip was $103, which also included my tea and his whiskey and a beer. Considering we had a lovely New Year's Eve in a stunning venue and were served delicious food by a gracious staff, this was indeed a bargain, and we'll definitely be back. read more

This was a great stop after being in town for the Hayes Presidential Museum. The appetizer of bruschetta was perfectly seasoned. The plan chops had a little kick. I have had lamb in patagonia and this measured up to its name. The steak was a home run, cooked to my level of perfection with a great flavor and sear. I went to Scarpetta's for the first time last night. I ordered the portobello ravioli and my boyfriend ordered the pasta da vinci. we ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer. The crab cakes were 3 tiny crab cakes which seems like not worth the 13 dollars they cost. They were very generic as well. The cream sauce they came with was great though. The pasta da vinci was ok, but the bottom of the plate was swimming with oil, which made it not very enjoyable. the ravioli tasted like the ravioli you can buy in the store, and the portobello mushroom cap tasted like it was fried in old fair food oil. It reminded me of anything froed I've ever eaten at a county fair. However, the peppermintini I ordered was delicious. It was the only redeeming thing, though not enough for me to come back. I had high hopes and was let down. I hope it was just a bad night for them because a lot of people like this restaurant, but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Went in on a Friday afternoon during happy hour. I was visiting from San Diego and was looking for a higher caliber of food for the area. I agree with previous reviews that the bread was lacking something but it was not too bad. One thing though! I think the server should cut the bread for patrons. I ordered the lemon chicken which comes with pasta and a side salad. I chose the endive salad which was decent but could have used more bite as it was a tad bland. My dining partner ordered the mushroom ravioli with house salad and said the ravioli was overly "mushroomy" tasting and caused indigestion. I tried a bite of it and thought it was complex and tasted many flavor layers. The place had a slightly cold dining room with not many patrons dining for a Friday afternoon. I would go back but it did not thoroughly impress me. It's a good place to go if you are looking for a higher caliber of food but it seems up in the air if the place can deliver every time. Perhaps I caught them on an off day or had some new hires working. Most locals don't seem to appreciate this type of place so hopefully they can stay in business! read more

I cannot say enough great things about Scarpetta's Italian. I'm in town from NYC for work and I stopped by to check it out. Colin was absolutely wonderful from the moment I walked in. It's a Tuesday night and I was the only customer there. He could've easily just ignored me and brought me my food but instead we chatted about our hometowns and backgrounds. I didn't even feel like I was having dinner alone! I had the lobster ravioli which came with a side salad or soup. I had the endive salad and despite not being a fan of Gorgonzola cheese it was absolutely delicious. I was given fresh bread and my ravioli was spectacular. Again, not enough kind words can be said. A total disappointment. Arrived for 6:30 reservation on time. Business wasn't busy. We were finally served our meal at 8:00. The service/waitress was less than acceptable. She never checked for refills, if our appetizers were ok which the soup was too salty too eat and the stuffed mushrooms were inedible. After watching at least three groups of people come in after us, get served, and leave (full meals for four) and our having been there an hour...patience grew thin. We asked about our order and the waitress said she thought it would be coming soon. The order was simple....it took another half hour to get served and they still didn't send everyone's order. It took another 15-20 minutes to serve her which by then everyone was pretty much done. It was sent back. The manager never came to ask what was wrong even while observing the interaction. The food was average. Prices well above the quality. What should have been a fun and relaxing evening ended with one hungry patron and very negative feelings for Scarpetta's. Being a native of Fremont...word does travel in our small town. I plan to spread my opinion as do others in the party. I wouldn't spend another dollar there and would suggest others find a better establishment to enjoy Italian or any other restaurant for better service and cost. read more

I was in town visiting my family from San Francisco, CA. It was my parents anniversary weekend. I must say I was impressed by this place. The decor looks like a spot you would find tucked into Little Italy or the Hayes neighborhood of San Francisco. The food was also very good. I had the lobster ravioli, and it was excellent. The server and management were also very attentive. The one downside was they didn't have the Apreol Spritzer on the cocktail menu. When I was in Italy last year I became hooked and they are a staple of any cafe in Rome or Florence. I suggested they add it to the menu after the bartender made one for me. read more

I never enjoy a dinning experience when I'm paying for something I can make at home cheaper and better. I heard the 1st few weeks were a little bumpy with customer satisfaction. Our review is Extremely Satisfied. Scarpetta's is very fine dinning for Fremont and their cooking is better then mine. Casual dress and pricey. We had the calamari, bbq chicken pizza and the grouper w a salad. One glass of wine and the tab was $70. This author feels he got great value for the money. Every dish was very good and the grouper & risotto was out of the world. I eat fish often and this is my all time favorite grouper dish. Eating the left overs for lunch now.
