I absolutely love Peter F. Schabarum Regional Park! It's the perfect quick escape -- close enough to civilization for convenience, yet far enough to leave the hustle and bustle of traffic and city life behind. Right now the cherry blossoms are in full, breathtaking bloom, turning parts of the park into a dreamy pink wonderland. The wildlife is thriving too: squirrels galore that are so bold they'll walk right up to your feet if you sit still and stay calm. On warmer days I've spotted rattlesnakes scurrying across the trails, so I always recommend staying in the middle of the paths as a safety precaution. From the main entrance at Colima Road, you can choose the paved walkway or head straight for the dirt trails depending on your mood. I usually make my way toward the horse stables and equestrian area -- watching the horses get fed or running around their enclosures is one of my favorite parts. Just be mindful of the occasional big mounds of horse droppings on the trails; it's a small price to pay for the beauty. The park is generally very clean, with plenty of trash cans scattered throughout. There are numerous benches, picnic areas, fire pits perfect for groups, a children's playground, and even a seasonal creek with several charming wooden bridges crossing directly over it (though the water is pretty dry now that the rainy season is over). You'll also notice signs posted along the trails warning about bobcats and mountain lions. I've been coming here regularly for six months and haven't heard or seen any myself, but I've seen quite a few hikers carrying pepper spray as a precaution. Just be safe out there. Weekends get busy with families celebrating birthdays and enjoying the outdoors, but it's all part of the lively atmosphere. For dog lovers, there are two fantastic off-leash dog parks right near the front entrance -- one for large dogs and one for medium/small dogs. Outside of those areas, dogs must be on leash per the signs. The hilltop trails offer absolutely stunning panoramic views that make every visit worthwhile. My only heads-up: the park is officially closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (per LA County rules), but a lot of locals park across the street at the nearby mall and walk in through the gates anyway. If you're in the Rowland Heights/Hacienda Heights area and looking for a beautiful regional park with trails, nature, horses, cherry blossoms, and those lovely wooden bridges over the creek, I highly recommend Schabarum. The cherry blossoms have arrived in full swing, so I decided to take pictures again before they dry out due to hot weather. For convenience, I decided to buy a parking pass, which cost $10 and allowed for re-entry until 8 pm the same day. There were plenty of trees to photograph. Because of the current hot weather, there were several flowers already drying out. It's important to note that park rules prohibit cutting any tree or flower growing in the premises. Park amenities are minimal, but you can find multiple restrooms with water fountains and picnic tables to sit. When I went, there wasn't a big crowd, and the green space is already expansive. When the weather isn't hot, it's calming to take a walk along the paths and grass to visit different areas of the park. read more

I enjoyed my birthday hike with my doggie at the Schabarum Regional Park this morning! The weather is so perfect today close to 70F with sunshine. The best part? I saw the beautiful cherry blossoms. I always come here and especially I like to come here on my birthday every year. It seemed like they had more cherry blossoms than last year. Then I took my dog to do the inner loop hiking. Huge park within city limits. I frequent this park weekly or even twice a week. The park is very well kept and a long paved walkway to get some steps in. There are tons of trails you can hike through some that are easy and some that definitely require some preparation. There are frequent visitors all day every day, so it definitely feels safe to walk by yourself. During certain seasons, there are cherry blossoms along the pave walkway, definitely a sight to see. They also have tennis courts, a flower field, and plenty of different play areas for kids. They also have a workout area too! Parking use to be free during the weekdays, until the recent change across all regional parks. There are daily fees, increase annual fee and they are closed Monday and Tuesday. How does that make sense? Either way, there are ways around the parking fees, but that is up to your imagination. I still love this park and visit frequently. read more

Great park with plenty of parking plenty of restroom stops and they are actually decent, appears clean and have fancy dryers. Booked a company event here and wow , huge space and we had close to 75 people and it was a wonderful day outside and we played games and ate a full lunch here. I paid seven dollars to get and I feel it was worth it. I went up close to a thousand feet in elevation going for over 4 miles. There are some great photo opportunities as you get higher and higher, overlooking the city. I did not see bathrooms or water fountains along the trail, but I did see bathrooms and water fountains in the entrance and recreation park areas. The hike I did was 4.3 miles so it is advisable to bring water, and if needed some type of snack to be safe. Do you need layers? That is also up to you. This park is across the street from La Puente Mall, so if you are hungry after, or need put gas, or visit bank, or needs Krispy Kreme donuts, you can find it. read more

Been hibernating inside due to the fires and winds until today so I was so glad the air felt great here and we completed the skyline loop which is 5 miles round trip. There's some shade, some incline, and some horses to see. It was perfect for a short hike! Parking is $7 but we parked across at the mall for free and walked over. There are multiple trails that wind across, around and above the park, from easy walks to some more intense hikes with limited shade, so come prepared with water and sunscreen. The views on the more intense hikes are great. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle, and it's absolutely worth it for how well-kept the park is. There are plenty of picnic areas, clean restrooms, a small creek (dry during our November visit), and nice recreational areas for kids. A great place to relax, explore, or hike for a few hours surrounded by nature. If you're looking for a moderate, 4/10 difficulty hike, Schabarum Regional Park is a great choice. The Bobcat Trail Loop is easy to follow and has a good mix of flat, uphill, and downhill sections. The trail itself should last around 40-50 minutes depending on how fast you hike. While there's a bit of dog waste along the trail, the park is still a lovely spot for a relaxed hike or walk. I'd recommend visiting on a weekday when parking is free. If you go on the weekend, you can find free parking along the streets near 85 Degree Bakery. Over the years, I have been to this park. The staff are dedicated to keeping the services, programs and grounds maintained. The Summer time community concerts are very popular and free admission. My last visit was brief, just to catch a Shuttle from City of Industry to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. This review is to the transportation service only. It was a bargain at $7 fee for a round trip ticket if you reserve in advance. A slightly higher fee if you show up without a pre-paid e-ticket. The lot is small, make sure to arrive early for the 6pm departure. There were 3 buses on this day, get in line and show your ticket bar code to board the bus. The driver had Star Wars music playing, it was to set the stage for the John Williams and LA Philharmonic performance that evening. Once you arrive #atthebowl, note the area the bus is parked for your return back. You can board any of the 3 busses, no not need to get on the same seat/bus. The service was very organized and much better than driving in traffic. The price is a DEAL! Try them next season and don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya. read more

Can't say too much about this park, we didn't stay long. It looks clean enough. There were people jogging, workout stations, multiple large parking lots and a playground. My dogs needed a break so we jumped off the freeway and GPS'd this park. We walked for a while then saw there were signs that said beware of RATTLESNAKES! I am giving this review one star because of the several children's playgrounds that have been under construction for three years! After the first year, things started moving slowly after the second year things completely stopped. No, when I've gone back, everything is still fenced in. Nobody works on anything. I've called the office and they don't know when they'll ever open those playgrounds the contractors flaked or money ran out. But this is a huge regional beautiful park where families could take their children, have picnics, and stay for hours and these beautiful playgrounds are all fenced in. It's pathetic to see this. COME ON L.A. COUNTY step up and complete this project and reopen those damn playgrounds! read more

The trails are very dirty, with alot of animal waste, especially dog waste. We are asking that the pet owners be fined for not picking up after their animals. We seniors love the park and walking in those trails. Keep them clean, thank you. read more

It was a bit unnerving, so it's important to keep your dog on a leash and keep a close eye on your children.I recently visited this park, and I was disappointed to find that the parking fee had increased from $3 or $5 to $7. It was a bit of a bummer. However, the park itself is quite large with ample parking space, picnic tables, and a walking path that also includes a hiking trail. One thing to note is that there isn't much shade along the walking area, so on sunny days, it can get quite hot. It's important to bring enough water and wear a hat to stay comfortable. Additionally, be aware of rattlesnakes in the area. During my visit on 5/21/23, we encountered a rattlesnake near a bush where a mother squirrel and her baby were present. It was a bit unnerving, so it's important to keep your dog on a leash and keep a close eye on your children. One of the highlights of this park is its diverse range of plant and animal species. 3/26/23 (visit date) SAVED this one for my 500th review-it is SPECIAL!! It's a long overdue review...this park holds a very special place in my heart, and especially for my family. In the mid 1980's, Schabarum Regional Park was our go to place to get together. My late uncle & his family used to live in Rowland Heights so this was the ideal destination for all of our relatives to come together almost every weekend to have picnics & bbqs. It was their way of welcoming us into the US because we had just emigrated from the Philippines. My brother, perhaps nearly 5 or 6 years old was quite the adventurous lad. He decided to go and follow a group of people and we were none the wiser. A search party ensued, nearly causing my mother to lose her $#!+. Not entirely sure why they didn't call the police or report him missing but it must've been the panic while everyone was scrambling to look for him. I don't recall how long until he showed up, walking nonchalantly & looking like he's had quite an adventure but a huge sigh of relief was felt. Imagine being so new to the country & your child goes missing!? To this day, we talk about this moment in time-we'll never let him forget it:)) We parked by Marshalls, my siblings & their children plus my cousins & her dog (Boxer) named Kuma. We could've just as easily parked across at the Puente Hills Mall but this was way more convenient (then window shopped afterwards). Generally it's $7 to park, $5 for seniors. Such a perfect sunny & gorgeous day to hike & enjoy the views! The cherry blossoms were in full bloom-it's the main reason we visited. The park looks well maintained and some features looked overgrown but I think it's just lovely to see nature carve its own landscape. There are many areas for exploring, like for instance, playgrounds for children. It was a leisurely walk that turned into a hike up the lofty hills with tall grass & adorned by wildflowers. Another exciting feature is a designated dog park, one for small dogs & one for big dogs. I am impressed how well constructed the cages were-with an exit that's designed separately to tend to your fur babies before heading out (donning their collars/leash). Picnic areas are plentiful with tables/benches & natural grass to serve as your soft "carpet" to lay down a blanket. There are massive trees perfect for climbing where we took several photos for the kids to safely climb. Watch out for beehives!! We encountered a couple so hopefully people brought their Epipens in case of emergencies. There was not enough time to further explore so it bears mentioning that you would need at least half a day to enjoy your time at this park. Other features include: an amphitheater, camping/sites, equestrian center for staging & horse trails, fitness courses, picnic shelters, soccer fields, tennis & much much more. LA county's Schabarum Regional Park, located across from Puente Hills Mall, is open daily from 6:00am to 8:00pm and without question, closes at 8:00pm so if you drove in from Colima Rd, the manual double swing barrier gate will be in use and you'll be forced to weave through Adam Road to exit off of S Azusa Ave. Also don't even think of backing up your car lest you want your tires to be pierced by those retractable tire spikes. This park is pretty well-maintained. They have a small and large dog park that I visited today. It's a regional park so if you visit on the weekend, I believe it costs seven dollars, but I came on a Friday and no one was charging. I feel Safe here. Sometimes I don't feel really safe at certain parks. I didn't see any sketchy people here. There were a lot of people taking walks with their dogs. There were people that were part of a dance group as well so, there's a lot of activity going on. read more

A fun park that is filled with things to do if you a child, young adult or an elderly. I feel like this is one of the best parks to walk, run and hike on. There are plenty of parking spots and I usually would want to come during a weekday because on a weekend it gets busy. There are also people doing classes outdoors in groups, mainly the elderly but I'm sure it's possible for anyone to join if you need a set schedule or something new to do. I love just walking here on the trails and just enjoying my day. I've done 18,000 steps once just walking around back and forth to different areas! Absolutely wonderful spot - thanks Edward Y. for the rec! Couldn't have dreamed of a more wonderful way to spend a Saturday. Ended up spending nearly half the day here. The scenery was picturesque on a 70 degree day. Blue skies and luscious scenery all about, from towering trees through the wildflowers. We loved the skyrim trail which looped the entire park. Was neat to see all the slices of life too - from children's birthday parties through family gatherings all the way to wedding photos--this is a fantastic place to see people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life spend time with each other. Easy parking and good restroom facilities. Well worth a visit and the $7 admission fee per car. read more

If you live in the San Gabriel Valley/Rowland/Walnut area you know all about this place! It's located on the corner of Colima/Azusa. Most people do free street parking along Azusa if you don't want to pay $6 for parking. They do offer free parking inside 1 hour before sunset. Pretty much the gate attendant closes so the gate is just open. This is the OG spot we all come to for your local hiking, park activities. They have full playgrounds for the kiddos, workout machines (currently closed during covid) along the paths, tennis courts, soccer field, variety of picnic spots and even horse stables at the end of the park. For those looking for hiking trails there are many trailheads within the park. You have your short 1-2mi loop trail, your 5mi long trail that goes all the way to fullerton rd, or even your cityscape view spots for those looking for a sunset viewing/firework watching place. There are plenty of public bathrooms around the park too. Yes it can get crowded with families and dog walkers but plenty of space to walk especially during this pandemic. read more
