Amazing customer service and amazing bodywork. With my new bumper, my car looks brand new. My car was damaged in a Water Way Car Wash when they pushed a truck into the back of my car. Water Way's insurance covered the cost of the repair along with the cost of a rental car until the repairs were complete. I had trouble getting the rental car at Enterprise and the lady at the front desk at Schaefer came over and helped get the issue figured out. She basically told Enterprise to bill Schaefer Auto Body and not myself, and that she'd talk with Water Way's Insurance company personally. This company goes above and beyond. Do not go here. It took a month for a small repair. In the end they made us pay MORE than the deductible. After a week, we hadn't heard anything. It was impossible to get anyone on the phone. When Jess finally called she falsely claimed it took a week for a "3rd party" to read the code on the car. How stupid does she think we are? Her communication was awful, most of the time it took at least 24 hours for her to respond. Then, after it was fixed, we had to wait another week for them to hassel our insurance for more money. We know there was at least one thing she was charging them for that they didn't replace. When we picked up our car the other person waiting said it took a month for hers too. If we'd known Steve had sold to a national collision group, we would have never gone there. read more

Don't waste your time. Stopped by to get a quote on Wednesday. Never got a quote so called Thursday afternoon. Nobody answers the phone. Left a voicemail. Called back today (Friday) after noon, both direct to the service writer and the business line, which puts you on hold. I 'put my number in line'. They never called back. Called back again and waited- only for their system to eventually hang up. If you're on a time schedule or really just want the decency of a call back or response- don't count on it here! read more

Due to a minor fender bender I was in the market for an auto body shop, so after shopping around I decided on Schaefer Auto Body because they came highly recommended by a friend. I didn't take my car to the exact location that they had used, but I have to admit that their service is very professional. I dropped my car off on a Sunday evening, and the next day I received a call informing me that they started the process of checking in my car and told asked me how I would like to receive updates, I opted for an old fashion phone call and every day I received an update on my cars status. The service was beyond expectation, and when I finally received my car it looked brand new. They detailed the inside in addition to the repairs. I rarely write reviews, but if I do it is really bad or amazing. And schaefer autobody centers deserves all 5 stars. With my first serious accident I am glad I left my car in the hands of these people. With miscommunication from my insurance company they told me to go to another Schaefer location that wasn't compatible with my insurance but they were so Kind to keep the car there until I was able figure things out. When I finally came to the crestwood location, the front desk lady (which I wish I remembered her name because she deserves a shout out) was so kind making calls to make sure I was taken care of, that nothing, including my rental car, wouldn't come out of my pocket. They worked extra hard to make sure my car was done a day earlier than their estimated finish date so I would have time to pack my car before my vacation. When I left on my vacation I noticed a tear in the upholstery and they told me to come in no problem. Kevin took a look at my car, wasn't sure if it was actually their fault or not but still offered to fix it and get me a rental car for the day. I am very wary of any car shops of any kind because I am used to being gauged out of my money but I trust that customer service come first with them and whenever I need a fix I will come again. read more

Very minor scratch on my vehicles bumper. Their lady at front desk looked at it and in a second quoted $500. They didn't look up time required to remove bumper or anything. I was quoted less elsewhere. I won't waste my time with this place again. Also had a family member use this shop and he had to bring his vehicle back because they didn't re-install the weather trim. read more

My mechanic at Speedway Automotive on Manchester recommended this place. Apparently Schaefer has multiple shop locations; my mechanic can vouch for the service at their Webster Groves location. I called their main phone and was able to schedule an estimate on some repairs for that same afternoon, but at their Watson Road location. I was greeted with such friendly service! I was taken aback at just how friendly everyone was! They were ready for me even though I showed up several minutes early, and were able to get me out the door pretty quickly. While I was there, I noticed another car getting its windows tinted, which is something I've been interested in. Schaefer contracts this service through another company that uses their garage space for this service. I can't remember that company's name, but they took the time to answer any questions I might have about tints, and guaranteed me that they do quality work. I don't know if it's competitive pricing or not, but for 4 side windows and the back window, I was quoted at $250. read more

Terrible customer service. Initially Justin told me it would take a week to give an estimate on the car because they had to tear the car down. American Family, the other driver's company, told me this was untrue - they needed an initial estimate only. When I took the car in, I told Justin to prepare an estimate for American Family but he pushed me to work with my own insurance, Triple A, who ultimately totaled my car because the body shop could not guarantee the car could be fixed for the price of the estimate. Justin was continually rude and Amy, also at the front desk, rolled her eyes at me. Although Justin told me American Family would also total the car, I turned the claim over to American Family. The body shop took two more extra days to prepare the estimate for them. American Family did authorize repairs and my car was finally fixed but my car was at the shop over three weeks and communication was extremely poor. I had to call for updates and I am now getting stuck paying for five days of the rental car fee. Several times I actually went to the shop in person because they would not return my phone calls. To top it off, the body shop left my car outside without a hood in the pouring rain for three days. I called the after hours number several times to alert them to this fact. They reassured me someone would call me. Two hours later Brian, the manager called me and acted inconvenienced. He claimed the car would not be damaged by the pouring rain. I am now taking the car to a mechanic to have it checked out! Stay far away from this shop! read more

I got side-swiped in November and this was an in-network shop from Nationwide so I went here. The bill was 100% paid by the other driver's insurance so I paid nothing (100% liability on the other driver). First of all, the wait time to get into the shop is very high. I was hit on November 4th and they couldn't get me in until December 19th... so over a month of waiting. Thankfully my damage was only cosmetic so it wasn't a huge deal. But a long wait nonetheless. Second of all, they took nine days to fix cosmetic damage - no structural issues. I needed a new front bumper, a new front passenger fender, and some minor buffing and paint work. That should not take nine days. Perhaps it's because... They waited to order parts until after I dropped my car off. So my car sat in their lot for several days not getting worked on while parts were delivered. They could have had me stop by in the month+ waiting period to asses what parts they needed. The thing that really blows my mind is that the insurance company sent out an adjuster to inspect my car and sent the detailed assessment of the damage to Schaeffer a MONTH ahead of time. So they already knew exactly what parts needed to be replaced anyway. Why they didn't order them is beyond me. I was sideswiped and my passenger mirror was damaged and was specifically called out as needing work. After I picked my vehicle up I noticed that the mirror was popped out of place. So I tried to adjust it using the controls inside the car but the mirror didn't adjust. I had to get out and pop my mirror back in place. I would have expected that they would have checked their work before calling the job finished. They used an air gun to do some minor paint touch-up on the side of my car. However, they obviously didn't cover my windshield because it's covered in a fine mist of gold paint now. It's not noticeable unless I'm driving into the sun in which case my windshield is now foggy. They offered to have me bring it in to rinse it off with solvent but they've already done enough. I don't have the time to drive there and sit in the waiting room while they work on it. I'll do it myself on the weekend when I have time. One of the items called out in the assessment from the insurance company was a front wheel alignment. My front passenger wheel was hit in the sideswipe and the adjuster was concerned that the wheels my have been knocked out of alignment. Schaeffer knew this from the assessment they were sent but didn't fight the insurance company about trying to get an alignment. I had to have Schaeffer call the insurance company and fight to get the alignment done (I also sent a letter to the insurance company asking them to approve it). Schaefer told me that the mechanic would drive it and see if it needed an alignment. However, if the wheels are even only a few degrees out of alignment, you don't notice it when driving but it will prematurely wear down the tread. In a sideswipe situation where the wheel was hit, an alignment should be standard procedure and I would expect Schaeffer - as the autobody professionals - to work with the insurance company without my intervention. I think it demonstrates a lack of professionalism and wanting to "get the job done right". They would rather send out a potentially broken car than deal with insurance companies. I can't say I blame them, but it IS their job nevertheless. I'm glad that I didn't have any structural damage as even simple cosmetic work was shoddy and the QC process was lacking. There didn't appear to be much in the way of craftsmanship or pride in work. There weren't any major problems with the experience, just lots of little things along the way that all added up in a poor experience. I would not recommend this shop. read more
