This restaurant is part of the Bigfork Gold Course. We had made reservations as we had a large group. There is plenty of parking available. I didn't notice any gluten free/vegan options. The service was excellent, Niko was our server. I enjoyed the caesar salad. Several people ordered the short rib and really liked it. The presentation of the food was good. The filet was really good. I really liked the 1/2 potatoes, it was really yummy. The portion size was good and the prices were as expected. Imagine spending 150-300$ for a diner. Cant seem to get the cook right on the steaks, burgers are either cooked well done and dry or under cooked. Service is great location beautiful. Just saw they received a B on there health inspection. How?! Food trucks are getting A+! How do you call yourself elevated dinning with a B or justify your prices when industry health standards are not being met! My first time here. We ate in the fine dining side of the restaurant but you can dress casual. The restaurant was alive with tables having great conversations. I dug the vibe. I decided to try the Lychee Basil Martini- not too sweet or dry. I recommend this if you like a refreshing cocktail. Then I was torn because I had to try the poke! It just sounded delicious so my friends said they would have some too. 3 of us shared this and my picture was after we all took a little. (Oops) This was so delicious- don't miss eating the seaweed too! It was perfect pairing. I decided on the chicken because of the starter. And my friend said it was so tasty. My friend didn't lie! The spices used were outstanding. I normally don't order chicken in a restaurant but this is a definite thumbs up! Finally for dessert - the huckleberry Oreo mud pie. Pro tip: let it sit & melt for a few minutes because the flavors really come out the longer it sits! Dinner fabulous We didn't make a reservation & got lucky they had a table open. Me, my wife, my brother in law and my twin sister had a horrible stay! would not recommend this place to anyone who is visiting out of state or not a member to them. We all came here to visit for my sister's wedding day dinner. We waited just about a hour for our food, and when my brother in law asked what's taking a little bit. Our server legit told us that they had high end clients to serve first and they pretty much set all of our food to the side to serve. "And yes our food was pretty much cold" I know damn well if you're a so called high end restaurant , you treat everyone the same no matter who the hell they are. Recommending this place to absolutely no body. The way they disrespected us and especially my sisters wedding day dinner is fucked is so many ways. We had our Christmas party there last night, 11/14. We were sat in a private room which was very nice considering it was a bunch of construction workers. Our server, Terri, was amazing!!! She was on top of the many cocktails that were being ordered and kept up the water for us non-drinkers, she was the best. Our food, from appetizers to the main courses, were amazing. The Cioppino was awesome and I would definitely like to try it again since I didn't get to eat it. The reason I am giving it 3 stars is, the young girl they had helping take dishes and help in other areas looked like she didn't want to be there. I didn't see her smile once even though I made eye contact several times and smiled at her. As our dinner was wrapping up, I was in the middle of a conversation, I looked up to see her walking away with my full bowl of Cioppino (I had eaten too many appetizers). I had literally eaten 3 clams and one slice of the bread. I hadn't touched my shrimp or lobster. When Terri walked in as the girl was leaving, I asked her if she was boxing up my dinner for me. Terri immediately went to check. She came back stating that my meal had been thrown out and that she would take $20 off my meal. I didn't want to cause a scene during the festivities so I accepted her offer (it wasn't her fault.) I am disappointed that I still had to pay $25 for a meal that I didn't get to enjoy. I have never had someone come take my plate without asking if I was finished, let alone without asking if I wanted to take it home. We spent over $2,500 for dinner and I don't think we will be back for another party. I would definitely recommend this place, just make sure to hold on to your plate if you want to take some home with you or if you are not finished. read more

We were heading to the Bigfork Playhouse to see a show on Friday night, so I wanted to make reservations somewhere nearby. This place looked pretty good, as they had a few seafood options that we could try, and the menu looked good. The restaurant is at the golf course. They have a casual area that seems to be first-come, first-served for seating, but they also have a dining room for the reservations. Note: You have to walk down a little hall to get to the place you check in for a reservation, it is not where people are standing to get a table without reservations. The dining room is elegant with high ceilings, and beautiful views overlooking the golf course. The entire place is carpeted, so the sound is extremely low, great for conversation! I would say its upscale classy, and most people were dressed in their golf attire or something cute casual. We started with the shrimp cocktail, which was exactly what you'd expect. We then had the house salad with huckleberry dressing. This was excellent. I love that all around Flathead valley restaurants always have a huckleberry dressing of some sort - it's my favorite! We decided to try the two fish options and compare. I had the halibut and he had the salmon. Mine was the winner by a MILE! It was so tasty, the cabbage and pickled cucumbers were such a nice flavor with the fish and sauce. My partner said the salmon was good - but he also preferred mine. We will definitely be back when we want a more expensive upscale dinner in Big Fork. read more

My understanding is that Schafer's has gone through alot of changes and with that comes growing pains. My wife and I have dined a few times since the remodel and have enjoyed it but felt it was a bit overpriced (as most things are these days). However, we went back recently for wife's birthday to the Liquor Barns Scotch tasting and food pairing event and had a great time and meal. The service was spot on and the food was inspired!! My wife's burger was undercooked. Was sent back for a new order. Waited twenty minutes for the new order, but in the meantime I had finished my meal and we were ready to go. Upon our arrival we realized prime rib was the evening special. We each ordered the dinner special which arrived hot and was delicious. Meat was very tender and seasoned well. All three prime ribs were ordered at different cooking levels with one arriving not as ordered. One salad was ordered arriving as a large portion so it was shared by all, everyone agreed it was delicious. Cocktails arrived cold with a very good selection to choose from. Unfortunately this place has become very hit and miss. 2 out of the last 3 visits were a complete train wreck. Last time was the worst by far. Our tuna poke appetizer fell on the waitresses tray , she served what wasn't laying on the tray... we ordered wine to enjoy with our pizza which came after we finished a cold pizza because we were waiting for the wine. No price adjustment for anything, to add insult to injury we were charged an extra $2 for asking that my martini had dry vemouth. We celebrated our 41st anniversary earlier this week. Really enjoyed the entire meal. Sea Bass special was very good. Halibut dish was my favorite. Mushroom soup really hit the spot. The food was outstanding, however the service was a bit off. We were a party of 6 and needed more bread, butter, asked for olive oil twice, but never received it. I know this sounds silly, but sometimes it is the small details that make a big difference. Simple things like asking if anyone would like coffee after dinner, filling up waters, etc. show the diners that attention to detail matters! No matter how delicious the food is, if the service fails- it will bring down the meal. One other note- corkage with a fee would be welcome- sometimes people like to bring that special bottle of wine. Entrees enable choosing across fish, fowl, flesh but nothing that crawls in a ditch. Our table had crusted halibut, a tender but ridiculously large pork tenderloin and a fresh steelhead. The only thing we didnt share were our wine selections: a wide range of by the glass options. Oddly no Oregon wines but i am from california so it was okay. Impressed by a less well-known but excellent pinot noir. Bottle prices were very inviting which is key indicator the restaurant wants patrons to appreciate how wine can pair with excellent good preparation. We were too full for desert but basked instead in the views offered both inside and outside. Service was informed and timely but not intrusive. Definite win for a celebratory dinner. read more

Hmmm, Not often I go against my fellow Yelpers but, this time I must. I fear Schafer's has fallen into the age old trap of believing it's own press. We read the 5 star reviews, the tantalizing descriptions and we were hooked. We also expected the caliber of evening, folks were writing about. Being our anniversary, our friends generously offered to buy a couple of bottles of wine for us. However when that happens, & they insist you pick, it is only fitting that you return the favor and pick one of the least expensive (not knowing what they had in mind). We picked the least expensive Merlot. For all the hype about the wine list, their lower priced Merlot is pitiful. There are several good Merlots that don't finish with such a harsh note indicative of really cheap bad wine. Not a great start. However, we aren't ones to complain, so we didn't say anything. Secondly, my friend and I couldn't decide on the lamb or the filet, we decided to each order one and share, so we could try both. We mentioned this to the waitress and asked if the kitchen would mind dividing them for us as we were not sharing one meal, we were purchasing two and simply splitting them to try. She returned with them undivided saying the 'chef didn't want to divide them' a bit surprising to say the least but we didn't say anything as they were 'kind enough' to send out an additional side. First off, The lamb was awful and absolutely the worst lamb I have ever had. I actually had to chew twice and swallow just to get it down! My friend felt the same. Considering lamb is my all time favorite, I grew up in the British Isles and spent the end of 2019 beginning 2020 (nearly two solid months pre-Covid) traveling Australia and New Zealand, not to mention 40+ years in between, I can tell you I have had my fair share! It should be removed from the menu. It's that bad. However, being with friends, and once again, our anniversary, we didn't say anything (although we really should have). At this point, I must give credit where it is due, the appetizers, jumbo shrimp and salmon bisque were all delicious. The filet was very good and everything it was described as. So was my husband's duroc pork chop, we all enjoyed those. You've read enough reviews about them and we concur wholeheartedly. The desserts were also, pretty good. Then came the bill. We were shocked to find each of our bills had been hit with a $5 charge, slyly built into the price of our lamb and filet. (It's NOT the amount, $10 total, it's the way it was handled). We pointed it out quietly to the waitress who informed us that it was for splitting. We told her that nowhere on the menu did it say any such thing, nor had she said anything to us when we discussed it and the kitchen had refused to split them anyway (remember we did NOT share a meal, we bought two and simply wanted to try each other's) We gently & tactfully asked if she would mind 'looking into it for us.' The waitress then had the audacity to respond very condescendingly, 'Well that is a standard practice for fine dining'. As any of our friends know, we have eaten at far finer dining establishments than any hotel restaurant and not only regularly but also around the world. In all fairness they did remove the ridiculous $10 surcharge but it was just a shame it even had to happen. Not to mention, when told the reservations are for an anniversary and hearing it being talked about at the table (why the wines were purchased for us), any fine dining establishment would have said 'May we wish you a Happy Anniversary this evening, Mr and Mrs W'. They never acknowledged anything. Our names were never even used. In fact our waitress didn't come back to check how our food was, or if it was even cooked correctly. So please, DO NOT equate this restaurant with 'Fine Dining', fine dining it is not. But a nice hotel restaurant with a good view and decent food it is. It just needs a really big attitude adjustment and a menu that does NOT include lamb. read more

From the moment we made our reservation with Jonathan, we were impressed . We had an incredible evening at Schafer's celebrating our anniversary. Our sever Amy was outstanding. The cioppino and filet mignon were top notch and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious . The string beans were fresh and crisp. The homemade breads were warm and savory. Great for dipping in the cioppino broth . The wine selection is very good. We had the Silver Oak Cab. One of our favorites out of Napa, CA. The raspberry creme brûlée was the best we've had. We sat outside and enjoyed a gorgeous view of the lake. Definitely high end food with a casual and beautiful atmosphere. Be sure to make reservations as they book up quickly. I have eaten here many times, as I have several family members that live in Bigfork. By far the best food in the valley! The service is always fantastic, even if you have to wait a hour and a half for your food, (in the summer when all the tourists take over the town) but what won't bring me back, till summer when the patio is open, is the NOISE level. Its so loud you can barely hear the person next to you, let alone across the table. They have done nothing to fix this issue since they opened, so sadly won't be back till the patio is back open and you can enjoy the meal with the people you are with. read more

Not sure what the hype is here. The food was a definite "eh". The waitress was lovely, but we don't eat out to visit with the staff. She tried her best. We got the pork belly to start, which was tough. The steak was tough and flavorless and the halibut was ok. She gave us a free desert because the hostess was clueless and let us sit and wait for a table that was sitting and waiting for us. We ordered the chocolate mousse which was more like a flavorless thick soup under a strawberry whipped cream. So weird. Anyway we gave her a great tip because she couldn't have been a better waitress. The venue was very basic and the food was passable if your starving. Too bad.
