He provided an Exceptional experience: quick responses, no question too small, honest answers. In particular, as a woman buying a car, he treated me with great respect, answered all my technical questions, and didn't Focus on just which color I wanted and accessories, as many sales people do when selling to women. I also got an outstanding deal, and I know this from comparing notes with friends who have bought the same car at other dealerships in the area. I have been having my 2012 serviced here since I moved to CT, and they are always very accommodating whether I have an appointment or not. I'm in and out quickly with great service. My fiance and I went into this dealership on Saturday and were promptly greeted by a sales representative. We asked to see a specific model which he showed us out on the lot - there were only 2 so not much to choose from. We explained we had done our research and were down to this car and another - we just started looking, but needed a new car. We asked if we could test drive the car and was told that they only test drive the cars to those who are serious about buying. How are we supposed to know if we were serious about it if we have never driven it? We decided that we weren't getting anywhere with this representative and left. We then went to another dealership where we were also promptly greeted, the representative showed us a few options on the lot and allowed us to test drive the car immediately. This was my first stop. This dealership is local to me, and I figured I'd visit since I'm in the market for a new Subaru. I walked around for a few minutes and took a look at their selection. They have a nice looking store with a decent amount of cars. This lot is much better than Suburban Subaru, but not as good Bertera Subaru. A salesman came to speak with me after a few minutes and we browsed for a few minutes. I asked him about availability and what specials they have for cash customers. He gave me vague answers and we ultimately parted ways when he had to run back inside. He didn't come back and I was tired of walking around. I purchased my Subaru from a different Subaru dealership & continued to go to there for oil changes/services even though it was almost an hour away. I found out they opened this dealership and I was so happy. I brought my car in for an oil change and tire rotation, so easy and everyone was so pleasant. The difference between Schaller and the other place was night & day. I can't speak to how the sales side is, but if it's anything like how they treat you in the service dept. then I would definitely recommend checking this place out. They also didn't try and upsell me anything, which as a woman is very refreshing since the other place always tried doing that. Plus their prices are much more reasonable and about the same as a place like Valvoline (for much better service/ambience). Great experience! read more

Just bought a 2015 Outback from Schaller, and couldn't be happier! Worked with Marc F. and he was awesome. We has previously gone to another dealership, and it was very high pressure, to say the least; not a good feeling. Went to Schaller 2 days later, and what a difference! Marc took the time to walk me through the car and go for a test drive (even though I had already done one) - and pointed out stuff the "other place" never mentioned. Really, all car dealerships are in business to sell cars and make a profit, but I didn't feel pressured in any way and felt they were fair. I'll be using Schaller for service, and we'll definitely be back in a few months when my husband gets a new car. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I will start with that so you gather this was and still is an AWFUL EXPERIENCE ON ALL ENDS! From sales to service and even their receptionist it all was terrible and I find them to be crooks! I went in on the 22nd of Dec. I didn't pick this location bc I was referred but bc I own a business in Berlin myself so figured I would support local and always wanted a Legacy! Finally here I am treating myself (so I thought) I was assigned John Benner who seemed decent at first but things took a quick turn! I found him to be rude and pushy, awful communication to the point I was calling him to check the status, plus my credit was ran TWICE because they confused my application! Then lied saying it wouldn't effect my credit which I am just finding out now it did! That was my first red flag! I tried to just call that an honest mistake so we finalized the process and it came time to pick up the car around Christmas and unfortunately I caught Covid! Literally felt like I was on my death bed and here comes John being so insensitive basically telling me "if I didn't come sign the papers and pick up the car I wouldn't have the same deal and he couldn't promise that I wouldn't lose the car altogether" so now I'm sick and in a state of panic I literally told him "I feel backed into a corner here" while thinking how reckless this man is with the state of the world to still try to break rules and have me come in putting them all at risk! I refused! This wasn't the first time he's acting full of himself even with down talking upper management in front of me. Not sure if he was trying to appear as if he was cool or owns the place but that's never a good look on any establishment for their employees to go rogue behind their backs! At that point I went over his head bc I lost total trust and contacted the finance department. I told them the situation to which they said that was completely false! Not only did I have 10days but I was locked into that car seeing as the down payment was made and the monthly payment could change but that would only be slightly. So again just more inconsistencies! Day of pick of comes John was very short with me probably because the real reason he wanted me to pick up in Dec. was to fatten up his monthly commission (I know how those things go!) but too bad safety first! He made it a point to not only rush me and practically shove me into the car but kept telling me he has people coming down from Jersey so we had to hurry up! As a business owner I find this treatment disgusting! I would never treat someone less important than the next! Now while I was excited finally having the car I did notice it was oddly dirty for a brand new 2021, why?! Then I get home to find a scratch on the front bumper and that was it! I contacted him and he said on his next day in we could handle it (again pushing me to the side) took more days of tracking him down so it's already a week in at this point. I get there to service and dealt with Jose who was nice at first. I additionally expressed my seat was doing something funny with a vibrating along with a strange ticking sound. They claimed this was bc it was a newer model and part of a piece but assured me it was "normal" again I call BS but time will tell! I told them the areas that needed deep cleaning and went on my way. That was a Monday, they didn't start anything until about end of week. Seeing as we were expecting a snow storm when I was suppose to pick up I was contacted by Charlene who was coordinating pick up and said "I just wanted to know if you were coming in before the storm or after so we know to pull it into the garage" I was grateful and said I would definitely be coming after as my work schedule wouldn't allow anything sooner. I did call back after receiving a strange voicemail from Jose saying the car just came back from the paint shop. So I asked Charlene how far was the other location (I'm on a lease with limited miles so YES I want to know who is driving my car and where, I was never informed it was being taken to a different location. That was all I wanted!) spoke to Charlene again who then got an attitude like I didn't have a right to know and told me 3miles and hung up on me! Also found out ANOTHER LIE AS IT WAS A WHOLE DIFFERENT TOWN WELL OVER 3 miles!!! I calculated from where it was when I dropped off and again nothing but disappointment. Day of pick up comes and I literally just had to laugh so I wouldn't cry.....my car is not just outside but the ONLY CAR THAT WAS FILTHY WITH ROAD SALT COVERED ALL OVER IT! I mean even the roof!!! Why and how is this possible other than being deliberate?!!! I freaked out bc now you're telling me the reason I brought it here wasn't even executed and I'm back to where I stared! It gets better..here comes scummy John talking about well you left it here for days what do you expect?! Yes, the staff is very nice, however I, too, had to wait 3 weeks for a service appointment. And today my tire pressure light came on, so I stopped on my way to work to see if they could look at it. I was told I had to wait over an hour or come back at 2:30. Really? I have a 2015 and bring my car there for everything. So I stopped at Connecticut Fair Tire and they took care of it immediately at no charge. read more

I give him credit because he met with me four different times and was patient through this entire experience. Jerry went above and beyond and even drove me to my house to pick up my plates. You rarely see this costumer service and he never hesitated to make ends meet. He also kept in touch and texted me updates and confirmed details with me. I bought my car here 2 years ago. I have no problem with my car or the salesman who sold it to me, however I ALWAYS have a problem with the repair shop. They never give the correct information, they always have a problem finding my appointment, they never call to tell me my vehicle is ready. I come in today to get a service done, that I scheduled last week and of course they cannot find me on their list, so I have to go through everything that I already talked to someone about yesterday, again. They also gave me the incorrect pricing by $300. They never honor the word of what their employees tell you. Not to mention that I was supposed to be given a loaner car to get to work, which now they are not giving me because of age...why did no one tell me this when I booked the service? I am furious. I love my car! I just bought a used Subaru Crosstrek from Schallers Subaru and i think the customer service was incredible. For a woman to walk alone in a dealership,you are seen as a mark. They try to rip you off with the hard sell. But i didnt get that at all from anyone at Schallers, esp Mike Maniscalchi, who sold me my Crosstrek. With all the info and attention he gave me, you'd think i was buying a brand new car, not a used one!!! But it didn't matter, i received the same great customer service. I had a 8 am appointment scheduled today for an oil change and basic inspection on my new Subaru Forester. I was nice and didn't specify a time figuring it would take a couple hours at most. The employee wrote down noon which was fine, granted a bit too much time for something so simple, but I let it go. Returned 4.5 hours later, at 12:30 to find a car that had clearly not been moved. When I inquired as to what was going on, I was told an employee came in sick and had to leave, so they were short staffed. Understandable, but not my problem. Was told I'd be called when it was finished... At 5 pm (a whopping grand total of 9 hours later) still with no phone call, rolled up to find my car complete. I'm guessing I shouldn't have held my breath for a courtesy phone call.. In what world does the normal oil change process take 8-9 hours?; apparently in Schaller Subarus world. I would highly suggest Art Schaller look into revamping this particular service department as it is in dire need of an overhaul. End rant. read more

Im appalled w this dealership. they totally screwed me!!!! when i traded my car in. which i never would of done if they didnt tell me salesman quote " its like your trading cars but your getting a new car and will be saving gas money in the end." only paying what you owe on your forester. $9000.00 so i said ok. & they gave me $14000.00 for my trade in. so i get my first payment and my balance is $22,875.61 do the math. its like i never traded my car!!!!!!!! and he made comments about my trade-in how messed up it was. um it was a 2010 forester i bought from them 3yrs ago. which to me is still pretty much a brand new car still. i take pride in my cars. the car was brand new.... only had dog hair in it. i asked if i should get it detailed before i brought it in. and he said no.... but still made comments even after i had my new car. so i called and talked to the manager about the huge price difference. who didnt help!! only saying sorry for the confusion and i could come in and he can show me how he thinks i got confused!!!!! its like i never traded a car in that money went puuufffff in the air!!! I'm so upset and feel HELPLESS :'( i'm a single person that lives pay check to pay check. i only traded my car because of what the salesman said. "its like your trading cars". and you only owe $9000. I just called about a Recall on my daughter's call where the passenger airbag can deploy and shoot shards of metal into the passenger and driver and serious injury or death can happen. Schaller service department says OH Sept I said no that is unacceptable. They said oh well that is the best we can do we are doing hundreds of these I said the people could die are you serious? Fran the service woman was nasty and I said can you tell if this is just Schaller or other dealers. This is our service schedule. I said can you recommend another Subaru dealer in CT she said nope I know of no other dealers in the area. I said YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF ANOTHER SUBARU DEALER IN CT? NOPE I WORK IN BER-LIN. I said you know what you need a new job because you are terrible at it and I called and left the owner a message. I am disgusted. SO I found Wallingford Subaru that got me in to take care of the issue within 3 weeks with a loaner. Don't bring your car to Schaller they could not care less about the people. IN addition I will be sending a letter to corporate to let them know that they are not prioritizing dangerous recalls and that is a law suit waiting to happen. read more

We went into Schaller to test drive the Outback about 2 weeks ago on a Friday. We pulled in and happen to see a blue Outback parked in front of the showroom. Read the window sticker and it had all the equipment we wanted. The Outback was a 2016 Limited addition V-6 with all the bells and whistles. Took it for a test drive liked it and were convinced that that was the car for us. So we proceeded to get a price and have our car appraised. That's were the experience turned to a total and complete disaster. Explained to the sales person that we wanted that exact car but in red with beige interior. He said he could get one none on the lot. That was fine because the price they quoted for our trade was why to low so I was going to try to sell it on my own. A day or two later, I decided to go and check out other dealers and compare price. There pricing was about the same as Schaller BUT it was for the 4 cylinder. My wife and I both said that we were quoted on the V-6 and they said that was impossible. Way to low for a 6 cylinder. I called back Schaller and questioned the original quote they had given us and said no way did they price a 6 cylinder it was for the 4 cylinder. At that point I realized Schaller make a mistake and quoted on the wrong car. I guess when you say that exact car that we drove you better make sure the salesperson actually was paying attention to the car we were in. I then told Schaller I would come back in and test drive the 4 cylinder Limited but please make sure we are compare options to options. They said fine and we sent up an appointment to do just that. About an hour later I get a call from Schaller and the salesperson says he can not get a red and beige Outback but he had a red with black interior that just came in and he could get us a really good deal if we were to purchase that one. I said I would considerate it after I drove it. But before we come in please get the price so we know what we are taking about as far as price is concerned. He calls back and gives me the price I questioned him twice about the big difference in price and he says its because its in stock and they don't have to get it from another deal. Still not convinced I heard him correct I hand the phone to my wife and have him repeat the price to her to make sure that what I heard was correct. Once again, he quotes the price to her and it is the same as what he original told me. I tell him that I would take the car knowing it was a 4 cylinder and had black interior but because of the price I would do it. We go in to test drive the car and purchase but before we do I say to him I cant believe there is such difference in price just because it on the lot. Before we go to test drive I ask to compare options to make sure we are on the same page. I REPEAT THE PRICE HE GAVE ME OVER THE PHONE AND HE SAYS I MISUNDERSOOD HIM THATS NOT THE PRICE I SAID. I shook his hand and said have a nice day and leave. One the way home we discuss the situation and are happy we did not purchase a car from Schaller because did know what car we would get when we went to pick it up. Buyer beware! We were never asked if we wanted VIN etching done on our used car. Once we got home after signing the financing paperwork, we realized we were charged $199 for the etching and it was factored into our loan. Just for hahas, we checked the car. It wasn't even done. Icalled on 7/29 to have this corrected. The document processor, Kevin, told me he would take it out of the loan and resubmit it. In the meantime, we had to come back and drop the car off to have a second key made (why this wasn't done in the week they had it prior to pickup is beyond me). Upon drop off, we inquired with Kevin about the status of the VIN etch charge. Mind you, this is 2 weeks later... And he tells us he couldn't take it out of the loan. It sure would have been nice if we were called and told that. I stated that now that it's in the loan, it's costing us about $75 more due to the financing charges and tax and we would like a refund for that amount. He seemed a bit annoyed by that request and said he'd get back to me after speaking to a general manager. Never heard from him. In 2 days I had an appointment to pick up the car after the key was made and they looked at the brakes due to fairly bad shaking. I came as I was supposed to and the car was not ready. They did nothing. No one called to tell me that I shouldn't waste my time going all the way there. I then made another appointment to pick up the car in another 2 days. Finally my salesperson Dave actually called me to tell me the car was ready. I asked if the check was ready for me to pick up as well. Of course it was not because the general manager was out and it needed his approval. This is now 14 days since I reported the error. I said that I am not coming back until EVERYTHING is done, including the check. Dave said he would have someone call me back. No one did. 4 days later on the Monday that the manager was said to return I called in the early afternoon because no one had still contacted me. I was finally told it was ready so I got the car and check that afternoon. This is the short version which doesn't include several voicemails and calls with no response and having to make a separate trip there to sign paperwork forgotten about. Also, it only took me about 10 minutes to find someone else they had "erroneously" been charged for etching. Only go here if you like being charged for things you don't recieve, love long wait times to see cars, and hate getting a call back. read more

The dealer did a great job of hiding everything wrong with their cars. They showed the car dirty, then cleaned the exterior and put it in the shade so the 100's of scratches and paint defects could not be seen. They sprayed something on the inside so it smelled fine for about the first day. Since then, forget about it. It smell like someone chain smoked 100 cartons of unfiltered in the car. Do not use them. One of the worst auto dealers I have ever dealt with. From the moment I showed up and drove off the site, it was an issue. If they are checking cars before they leave the parking lot they must have been down employees to check my car prior to me showing up. I paid about 7,000 cash for a vehicle and the moment I drove off I had issues. Constantly returning....customer service mediocre, and the actual car turned out to be a piece. I am well aware if you get a used car it's "as is" but I'm sure my car isn't the only one that turned out to be a lemon. Today I just turned that car in, one of the largest reliefs in my life, no exaggeration needed, and the service at the new place was unbelievable. And not just because it went smooth. I wasted my hard earned money on Schaller. Anyone and everyone who talks to me about cars and buying used will know to stay away. I get it, my opinion is microcosmic, but the fact is, Iv been to about 4 or 5 dealers in my life and never ever sold a piece of shit. read more

Called for the recent airbag notice I had received in the mail stating the parts were in. I was told the parts were not in, short supply, would NOT be in for another 90 days and that all dealerships are dealing with the same issue. I called Subaru directly in Cherry Hill, NJ and was told ALL dealerships have ample parts. Long story short called another dealer closer to my office, they DO have ample parts and scheduled an appointment. This isn't the first time they made it seam that they didn't "have time" for maintenance issues(free or low cost ones) even though we purchased both of our Subarus from them. Will be looking at other dealerships in the future, ones that aren't only concerned about the sales or paid maintenance. read more

I would not recommend anyone take their vehicles to this shop to be fixed. I brought my 2017 impreza in there to get fixed because of a knocking sound that was caused when turning. After a week they told me to come pick it back up and it was all set. Just pulling out of the parking spot they left the car in, the noise was still there; it clearly was not test driven. Then upon bringing it back, I had to wait for another couple days and never heard anything from them, when I called to find out how the car was coming along they told me they could not contact the dealership that was paying for this and asked me to send the number again because they had to keep leaving voicemails. So instead of finding out the same day or the next, they waiting for me to contact them days later just to figure it out. I called the dealership they claimed to be leaving messages for and they said they never received any called from schaller Subaru. The man I was told to speak with, Gary the service manager was very rude and unprofessional. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and disrespected as a woman just trying to get my car figured out. I will never bring a car back to them and I advice others to look different places as well. read more

I brought my subaru in to get an oil change in 2016 and was told I needed front and rear brakes, so I took it to my regular mechanic and he said I only needed front breaks, which I had him do. This year I took it in for an oil change because I have spider webs in the air condition drain and they clean it out for me. I will never go back again. They told me I needed a new head gasket which they had put in for me in 2014 because it was leaking. I asked if it would be their responsibility because I was under warranty. He said unfortunately, your warranty was up in 2015 and that he was sorry and I said so am I. He then told me that my axels and boots were seaping grease. I took the car to my mechanic and he said my car is not leaking or seaping anything. These people are not only crooks, they are dishonest, they are liars and they are ripping us off. I dont know about you, but I don't think we need people like this in our town or anywhere else. I wonder if they would screw their own families......... read more

My husband and I recently purchased a new Subaru Impreza hatchback from Schaller Subaru. We went in thinking we would probably buy a used Subaru. After a few minutes looking around Kevin came out to greet us. We explained what we were looking for and that we would be trading in our older model Subaru Legacy. He left us to get a quote on the trade and let us look around. My husband and I looked about and discussed whether used or maybe new would be better. As Kevin was gone quite awhile we were able to come to a preliminary decision on what our best option would be. This worked well for us, but maybe not for everyone. We then went looking for Kevin inside. As Kevin was busy, another very nice young man (I wish I could remember his name) helped us with specifics on the cars we were interested in. He then took us for a test drive in the car we ultimately purchased. After we definitely decided which car to get, Kevin came back to provide us the information on the actual purchase. This was a Saturday afternoon and we arranged to pick up the car on Monday. On that Monday Kevin was there and walked us through everything. (I was also extremely impressed that he called earlier in the day before we arrived to apologize and say they were running a little behind and rather than waiting I could come in about half an hour later.) We were financing so we met with Lisa and also Derrick regarding insurance coverage. Both very nice and helpful. After signing all necessary documents, Kevin took us out to our new car and showed us how everything worked. Then keys in hand, I excitedly (not to mention nervously) drove home. Bottom line: I was very happy with my experience at Schaller Subaru. I have a great new car. Kevin called a week later to make sure all was going well and said not to hesitate to contact him at anytime with follow up questions. read more

I went looking for a new 2015 Legacy from Schaller Subaru and worked with Kevin. I must say that this was a terrible experience. Kevin didn't really seem to care about selling us a car because "these cars sell themselves" and when we pointed out a defect with the rubber seal on the trunk, he mentioned that all of the cars are built that way. So, I'm assuming that all of them are defective and Subaru isn't going to stand behind their product? Kevin went back and forth with his manager and nobody was able to assure us (besides us taking their word that it wouldn't be a problem) that the defect was going to be fixed before selling us the car. Kevin was very rude and didn't even bother helping with the issue that we pointed out. We weren't looking for a discount on the car, we just wanted the rubber seal fixed and they weren't going to make an attempt to fix it. We were at the dealership for 2 hours for and it got to the point where Kevin didn't "feel comfortable" selling us the car and that we should go to Toyota instead. Really poor service. read more

First experience trying to purchase a Subaru from Schaller, but purchased an Acura from them prior. I spoke with Eric from the BDC, and we negotiated a price prior to me coming in. I was relieved the hard part was done. It's all down hill after this. I waited 35 minutes to finally speak to someone and while waiting the car I wanted was sold. I was ready to put a deposit down and make the purchase that day. Sales guy was nice and asks me if we can get you another car with more options for the same price, would you take it. Of course I told him. He speaks to his manager, Justin I believe, and he tells me yeah there's a car coming in that's similar and we can sell it to you for $700 more than the one that I wanted. Huh? What happend to the same price? I wouldn't have paid the MSRP worth of options but 2x what they are. Come on. He was very unapologetic about the whole experience. I told him I can go to the next local competitor for the original price we had originally agreed upon. They knew this to because I showed them my email. He said then do that. Wow. Ok. Off I went. I am sure the Schallers are thrilled this represents their brand and their name. I was disgusted and will not be back. read more

I would not recommend schaller subura to anyone.Took car to them because small coolant leak became evident as we had to refill reservoir often.They determined water pump might be seeping ,At that time we had timing belt and tune up replacement done.A short time later developed overheating problems.We had our AAA tow it to schaller.They checked it out and gave it a clean bill of health. The following Monday my wife stranded again due to overheating issues,She was stranded on cold morning late for work waiting to get towed to schaller again! It was left at schaller for diagnosis.At least we didn't have to pay for a loaner this time as they had the car for 6 weeks.They got back to me a few weeks later and said that they would tear down motor to determine what was wrong.It was going to cost me about $3k if heads needed machining and new head gaskets.They offered only to pay for tear down inspection.In the meantime I had called main office of Subaru to lodge complaint over situation and that my romance with Subaru was over.They offered s $500 coupon to help cover repair costs,After 6 weeks and &2400 out of my pocket not to mention loaner costs lost time from work and overall aggregation,the car will traded in very soon.Maybe I'll go back to GM,I never had anywhere close these issues in 30 years with GM.If schaller would have stepped up to the plate better,maybe I might consider another Subaru,But 3 strikes and you're out. read more

Worst car experience of my life. I drive a 2006 Legacy GT which is heavily modified. I was having many problems with my car and after taking it to my mechanic multiple times and having no luck I decided to take it to a Subaru dealership. I had my car towed there from my work. Once there Heather called me and was kind but clearly failed to effectively communicate to the service manager Josh. My car was towed there on a Thursday. Friday I called to ask on an update to see what they had found. I talked to Josh, and he mentioned to me they had found a lot of problems. So I asked him what he had found and basically beat around the bush as to what was wrong. I explained again what the problem was and why I had it towed there and he said I needed to call back Monday and talk to a technician directly. Again terrible communication between staff, this is now the third person I am talking too about what is wrong with my car. So I talk to a technician who is beyond belittling my mechanical knowledge, judging my ability to do simple mechanical work. So they give me an hour and a half of shop time to run a compression test and leak test (still Monday). So three days go by and I call Josh up again asking for a status update, he begins by making this crappy joke, clearly flustered that I'm calling again. I ask him what the deal is with my car and he said he had a bunch of problems found and that he needed more time to do a compression and leak test done... which doesn't make any sense since they said that's what they were going to do on Monday. I asked him what they had done in the last three days and he rummages around paperwork trying to find what the tech had wrote down for him, well the tech hadn't written anything down because they hadn't done any of the work they said they were going to do. So he gets the same tech on the phone and the tech basically tells me my car is too modified to work on and that I need to bring it to my tune shop because they can not work on it because they've had lawsuits previously do to heavily modified cars and messing them up. Well my car does not look stock what so ever, it looks very modified.. if they could not work on my car because it was too modified, why didn't they call and tell me this when the car showed up in their lot instead of wasting a week of my time and theirs? I ended up not paying a thing as it was a complete waste of time. I highly recommend NOT bringing your car here for service as clearly this dealership is just out to get your money and belittle your knowledge like you have no idea what you're talking about. Beyond the worst service I have ever gotten, and I can not believe I wasted my time letting them look at my car. read more
