There are a couple of recent reviews here claiming Schaller's has slipped. Smaller burgers, quality dropping, one guy calling it quits after fifty years. That is not what I got. Thursday afternoon, around one o'clock, and the food was still good. Whatever those reviews are describing, it was not my visit. Four stars. Schaller's is a reliable spot for a quick bite or a sit down meal with friends, family, or solo! You can dine inside at a cozy booth or table, or outside. With a variety of options on the menu, such as plates, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches with steak, chicken, pork, cheese, and fish, and an assortment of sides like mozzarella sticks -- there's really something for everyone to enjoy! They have slushies, cookies, floats, and ice cream for your sweet tooth as well. (I actually haven't tried those). Schaller's is known for their giant buckets of pickle chips you can help yourself to. This place opened me up to enjoying pickles on my burgers, honestly, because I always thought I didn't like them but I figured I'd try them again to see what the hype was about here, lol! I have been to Schaller's a few times with my partner. I usually just get a burger and a side. I have tried the grilled chicken as well before I started eating beef again. Everything I have tasted so far has been delicious and it is quite affordable, too!! If you're in Rochester, I feel like this place is a necessity to try. My friend has been posting pictures of the Schaller's "garbage plate" and so It was on my itinerary during my visit to try one of these monstrosities. Served in a to go box, my meal was as follows: the base is crinkle cut fries and macaroni salad, topped with a cheeseburger patty, then they add "hot sauce" which is a spicy meat chili and then onions, and mustard on top. It is for sure a heartburn city and it was perhaps two pounds of food. I did some damage here, not just to the food but probably to my diet. There was so much here that I skipped breakfast. Whenever we visit Rochester-Schaller's is a mist. Our food was GREAT. I had a white hot and the husband a burger. We love all the pickles. Service is great and husband is still amazed that while they do not write down anything-the order is always correct. It;s a casual place with some outside seating if you need it. I have been a Schaller's customer for over 50 years. I am sad to say I don't think I will ever return. The food quality on my last two trips to the Edgemere location was awful. The size of the hamburgers has also gotten smaller and prices increased. The Texas hot they served was burnt and the bun looked like someone sat on it! After the first bad meal I thought it was a fluke and then I went back and it was worse! I know prices are up everywhere, however other stands did not shrink in size or quality. I would mention Don's Original as a stand that even though they did raise prices the food quality was maintained. Maybe someone from Schaller's will see this and rethink their approach. We were out on the bike last weekend... trying to clear our "Quarantine heads" haha.... happened to ride past Schaller's and they were open for take out! So excited. We always carry our masks so we phoned in the order from the parking lot, and one of us walked in to pick up about 10 mins later. Found a deserted picnic table in a small park by the lake and had an awesome outdoor lunch. Schaller's burgers are amazing. I got sweet potato fries (yum) - just wish they had some honey for dipping, but not a deal breaker. Onion rings were amazing - look at the pic! We came here for lunch today. The employees are amazing. I rattled off a large order and he not only remembered it but got it perfectly correct. They have many food options here. I totally forgot to take a photo of my food but it was inhaled too quickly to remember. It is a Locally owned and operated restaurant that is part of the community. Be still my heart, the family trip to Rochester is complete, now that we've had Abbott's custard (right up the road from Schaller's), and a white hot from Schaller's! Mustard, onions & relish are a must. A little ketchup is okay too. Curly fries and onion rings also good, but if you haven't had a white hot before, this is where you need to try one. Burgers, Hotdogs and fries, they have it down to a science! The service was ok but could have been better if the millennials were more informed. We ordered a tuna sandwich on a hard roll. It was absolutely disgusting, no seasoning, no peppers. Lettuce or tomato's! Just mayonnaise!I wanted my money back so bad!!! I literally feel like I dropped the soap! Never again!! Stopped in for a treat with my wife and granddaughter... And walked into a piece of the past. Burgers, dogs, fries, rings, etc. with a roadside stand vibe that reminds me of the places I went as a kid. The service was okay, if a bit befuddled (maybe he was new) and the food was just what one would expect from a burger joint. Really enjoyed our visit. The one drawback was the ice cream... Portions are stunningly small... Which is fine except that the price is really high. Poor value on the desert but overall good experience. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to a Rochester ground steak joint. We went there for a cruise night and apparently the owner (or someone claiming to be.. I didn't talk to him) was unaware that there's a classic car cruise night in the summer on fridays! Everyone went and got food there. My dad and I came early. I had a cheeseburger and mozzarella sticks, what the what?? These are the best mozzarella sticks I think I've ever had. They are battered not breaded. Huge plus. They weren't really greasy (big plus I'm a slob! No grease squirted out!) the cheese was all in there and actually produced a cheese pull!!! Burger was really good! We were promptly taken care of. The workers were friendly. The place was clean. My dad had hot dogs. He preferred Shaller's hot sauce above all others. It was a really fun night. Thank you Schaller's for allowing the classic cars to have a cruise night in your parking lot overflow across the street! Now when I'm in Rochester I might have to add Schallers as one of my must go tos! I heard one of the guys say the fish fry was really good! read more

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child. I took my daughter for the first time here and she loved it. You have to try the ground round and you do have to pay extra for a hard roll. It is always fresh and the best french fries around. You can have burgers, chicken, hot dogs, fresh soups and ice cream. Everything is made to order. You can eat inside or tables are outside. My favorite is the dill pickles. They come in a huge bucket at the end of the counter for you to scoop out as much as you can eat. This is a must try. read more

This used to be thee go-to place for me and my wife. The burgers, hots and fries were always great and we loved it. Last year we went for a usual burger, fries and it was sub-par. Lousy service and the food was off. We ate there last night, and although the service was ok, they gave us burnt onion rings that were loaded with grease, and they forgot to put cheese on my wife's burger. If they were called Shy-lers, then nobody would ever come over to serve you. They'd just be too shy. Of all the "Rochester institutions" (Steve T's, Nick Tahou's, Bill Gray's, Don's Original), this one is probably my favourite. Unless you count Abbott's Frozen Custard, because then Abbott's wins. But Schaller's is a very close second. Their burger is just something else. I'm not the only one that thinks so. My travel companion is addicted to them too, and she doesn't even like burgers. If they were called Shoo-lers, they'd shoo you out of the restaurant as soon as you walked in. I get the Cheeseburger with extra meat sauce. I usually don't even like Cheese on my burgers, but when it comes to Schaller's, I'm all about it. We're talking about delicious light melted cheese on a tasty spiced patty with greasy juicy hot delicious meat sauce and bits of onion smothering the whole thing. In addition, it's on a bun that simply has to be described as one of the best-tasting burger buns on earth. If they were called Shirley Temple's, then everyone inside would be drunk. Altogether, it's the perfect fast food burger. The ultimate. The best one in WNY - and one of the best in the country. Right up there with Powers of Fort Wayne and Town Topic of Kansas City and the Galley Boy of NE Ohio's Swenson's and the burgers at Cook Out of North Carolina. If they were called Shula's, then they'd coach the undefeated Dolphins instead of serving burgers. This location is the original, way up by Lake Ontario. It's a little out of the way, but the surroundings are so beautiful that I recommend this location every time. If it's too far for you, then there is one in Irondeqoit and there's one way down in Henrietta. I've been to both and they were both excellent. I mean, off-the-charts excellent in all three cases. How often does that happen? If they were called Shhhh-lers, you wouldn't be allowed to talk when inside. By the way, they have good White Hots too. A White Hot is basically a Zweigle's "Brat" type sausage, cut in half, on a bun, with onions, and completely smothered, covered, dripping in meat sauce. They're really very good, and about one-eighth the size of a Garbage Plate, so perfectly sized for a snack. You probably already know what a GP is. If not, then see my Nick's review. They're enormous and so bad for you. If this were called Jersey Shore-lers, then Snooki and J-Woww might eat here, figures bedamned. And then I'd probably hang out here more often - and so would my girlfriend. If you're a Rochesterite who hasn't tried this burger lately - or ever... or if you're an out-of-towner in Rochester for a day or a few days... come here and be amazed. A Rochester institution and a great place to grab a burger, hot dog, fries, onion rings, or ice cream. It certainly isn't the "best" burger in Rochester, but what they lack in finesse they make up for in tradition and fun. They serve their burgers on hard rolls, which I like but may put some people off. Only basic condiments and accompaniments are available (don't look for sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, etc.) and you pump your own ketchup. Regardless, it is a home town classic and a great place to have a nice meal. Dinner for five was around $45, which wasn't too bad. It is minutes from the beach. And, as their wall artwork proclaims, some have said that "it is the best." read more

Well when we drive up to the lake we sometimes pass this place. No finally we stop in cause I wanted a little something to eat.. So this I believe is part of a small local chain. They have some outdoor seating but the inside has plenty of seating and yes they have ice cream. They have a long bar type of line and step up and order. They seem to have a monthly specials and all kinds of other stuff. Prices are good and yes they take Credit/Debit Cards and Cash so... I was in the mood for some Chili Cheese Fries and I got them. Hot. Freshly made crinkle cut fries, chili with beans (it was actually very tasty chili) and a cheese sauce. I should have asked for some choppy onion on the top. This can be eaten by one hungry person or shared by two. They are cranking out the food and staff is good but busy so be aware. They have a little area for different kinds of pickles get you some. I love this little touch that they do in the area. I will tell you this come here for some tasty fast food you will be glad you did. I'll be back. Plenty of parking as they have their own lot. Schaller's has always been a fun summer food and ice cream stop for us. Portions for ice cream are great, staff is fun and true Burger Hot Spot on Tuesdays, with antique cars lined up. Staff relies on memory for your order. Pickles always good and never ending. Wish they had vegan selections or salads but it will do for man food. Outside seating complete with not so friendly bees, yellow jackets and shooo... flies. Wave em away and enjoy the day. Schaller's is the best burger joint in town. read more
