Regular customer especially for their fish fries, and usually rate them at 5. Ordered fish dinner today, 2/26, and were surprised as to the lack of quality and preparedness of the meal. The fish breading was something we haven't experienced before, fish was overcooked and surprisingly the meal was very greasy. The same can be said for the French fries. The Cole Slaw, usually chilled, was actually warm and this concerned us so we did not eat it. This is the poorest meal we've ever had from Bill Gray's, Chili NY. We suspect this being the first Friday of Lent and they may have been extremely busy and lost control for maintaining quality. Certainly hope this doesn't happen again. read more

My sister-in-law took my son and I here for lunch while we were visiting! I always remember Bill Gray's having the "World's GREATEST Cheeseburger" so we stopped here for lunch. It's probably been 8-9 years since I've eaten at one. I haven't been able to eat big meals anymore so I actually ordered a kid's cheeseburger meal with regular fries. My son had the same, my nephew had chicken tenders kids meal, my sister in law had a burger & fries and she brought home my brother in law a 'plate. For the most part, the meals were pretty good. My SIL said her burger tasted "freezer burned." She said it just had an "off" taste to it and remembered it being better. My kid's size meal was perfect-sized for me and actually, I still couldn't finish all the fries. The service was friendly. She engaged in convo and wasn't just a robot, which I always like. But MAN! The prices here are insane!!! I mean, advertising the World's Greatest Cheeseburger meal for $11.99 doesn't sound like a GOOD DEAL to me. I remember back in the day, there were BOGO coupons. Most recently, the drink for the kids meal and a roll on the plate and then before an order of onion rings. What to get: World's Greatest Cheeseburger, Abbott's Vanilla Custard Like all Bill Grays, the best thing about this location is that it shares a spot with Abbott's which means you can get some of the best custard ever. Their garbage plates aren't great, but their burgers certainly are, and the custard at the co-business rocks my world. The servers here aren't great and will get stuff wrong and take awhile to serve you, but they are making an effort, and the girl sweeping the lobby is very friendly. It's not my fave interior of a Bill Gray's either, that would be the one at 1225 Jefferson. So I'll give it a 4. Abbotts/Bill Grays share space like Taco Bell/KFC do in many places. The employees work for both. This location is a total palace, more than enough space for 2 businesses. Or five. It's one of my "best 5 custards I've ever had." I think I like custard more than ice cream, more than fro yo, less than real gelato. For custard specifically, which is sort of like soft-serve-but-creamier, the best in the country are Leon's in Milwaukee and Nielsen's in Vienna, VA, and then Abbott's in 3rd. read more

Stopped here for Abbott's ice cream at the take out window outside. We ordered two single scoop ice creams and a predmade novelty ice cream. We waited at least 20 minutes if not more for our ice cream. The staff addressed us and were sympathetic for the wait which we appreciated and understood. Solid fast food place with an Abbotts frozen custard built in! Drive through as well. They have standard fast food fare as well as breakfast and milkshakes. I had chicken tenders. What I think makes it better is that it includes an Abbots in the restaurant itself, thus you can easily get yourself dessert without even having to leave! They are EXTREMELY slow but friendly they forgot the freaking CHEESEBURGERS and by the time they brought out CHEESEBURGERS the rest of our food was cold. (Isnt that pretty much the main reason people go to Bill Grays is for the CHEESEBURGERS) The prior visit we stopped in for milkshakes only and it literally took 20 minutes....I wasnt sure if they were churning the milk! This is my go to place in Rochester. "World's Best Burger" check , "World's Best Fishfry" check , anything else they claim to be the best at, check. Bill Grays can do no wrong for me. The restaurant is clean, the customer service is great it always feels like going to a family restaurant. Also ... their gravy is out of this world. It's free and goes good on everything, especially the fries. Same for the hot meat sauce. I do think prices can be a little high but that part doesn't really matter because there's always coupons and they accept all of them, even when you make changes you just have to pay the difference. The Gates location even takes expired coupons, not sure about the other locations but access to up to date coupons are never to hard to find. read more

When I was younger, this was the place to go. Food was amazing, service was prompt, and everyone was friendly. I just went through the drive-thru today after being out of state for over a year, and it seemed like the old bill grays. We ordered, the lady repeated our food back to us - cheeseburgers, two fries, and chicken tenders, mind you, the lady even asked what sauce we wanted - and we get to the window and pay. The total seems weird, but we have a coupon, so we don't question it. Turns out the lady forgot my part of the order even existed - no fries for me or chicken tenders. There was already a line behind us so we didn't tell them about it. It's a shame because I was so excited to show my fiancée, who is from out of state, about the place I always wanted to come to as a kid. Disappointed. Stopped on the way home last night for a fish fry to go. Place was pretty busy at 5:30 but still I was in and out in no time. Fish was delicious! Fries and pasta salad were ok, and price was fair $12.91 with the coupon. Place seemed clean, but it was busy, and really couldn't get to the napkins, condiments, etc. Overall I will go back, it's not bad, nothing great, but it does have a drive thru which is a plus. Bill Gray's fixed the problem and made the inconvenience right. That said we just had the most ridiculously delicious and crunchy onion rings, today. I don't know if this is all locations, I can only attest to the Gates, NY one. A notice wasn't placed at the drive thru. It was only when I got up to the window was there a notice. Customers beware, they no longer take all coupons. They used to take all coupons including expired, no lodon'tnger. I see this hurting their business significantly, and for sure will not be going there any longer. The coupons were what made it more affordable. Our family of 8 usually went there for birthdays but we won't be able to any longer. The window person was very nasty and belittling about the whole coupon thing. I was led to believe they did because if the two versions on their outside menu board.After 3 attempts to order one ( We don't have that...hey do we sell chicken?) I ordered a regular cheeseburger. My family comes here every now and then for burgers and I'm never opposed to it. I like bill grays, the burgers are always hand pressed every day and their meat hot sauce is second to none. This particular location is right next to an Italian restaurant near the corner of elmgrove and buffalo rd. Fairly spacious seating. I've never been crowded here. Probably seats close to 50-60 people comfortably. Even during busy times, I've never waited more than a few minutes before ordering. Once ordered, food is up within 5-10min. Usually sooner during the non busy hours. Food is not your typical fast food. Told the clerk 4 times the order and each time she tried to give me the same wrong order. When she brought a manager to the window the manager tried to give me cash for the order I had not placed.
