Can't really see the dark dead lettuce and over freeze status of the meal but it was bad.
    Carol G.

I visited from Austin for a quick visit to Abilene. I wanted to eat something fresh to cool off from the heat. I ordered an avocado chicken salad and drink. Cashier was not welcoming but that's okay, got my cup headed to the soda machine and all around the dispenser was sooo dirty. I continued to get my drink and sat down. Received my salad. I had asked for no bacon...bacon eas all over the place. Okay, I removed it, stared to eat, chicken was so cold, it felt almost frozen - I know wanted to cool off but c'mon. So I continued to my second bite and I noticed the lettuce was so wilted. I moved from the bottom to the top of my plate and there was darkness streaks from the bad lettuce. I immediately stopped eating. Got up and left the facility. Did I complained? No, the service the food and the place was dirty and just not what I expected from a Schlotzsky's place!

I found my dining experience at Schlotzsky's Sandwich Shop to be filled with good food. The dining atmosphere is local people.

    Cinnabon with pecans!

With the location this place has, it should be a gold mine. But there has always been personnel issues. Today they were short handed which meant very...slow...service. Is it ready yet? This is fast food, and it was ok, so I won't gripe...too much. Of course we wanted a Cinnabon, so another short wait. Again, it was ok. I hope to come here someday when everything is clicking, and the food will be as good as I expect it to be. Schlotzsky's are great sandwiches, and I hope to get one here someday.

    Roast Beef and Cheese (Small...apparently)

I was expecting the "small" to be small, but after subbing for the Dark Rye bread for Sourdough on the Angus Roast Beef and Cheese, I was floored by how big it is. Ounce for ounce it is larger than a Subway footlong: four ounces of meat, at least a ounce of cheese, and a whopping eight ounces of bread. That said, the roast beef was fattier than it should be, and the amount of bread sort of overpowered the cheeses (although great to have the cheese expertly melter). I thought the bread was weird and distracting; it was toasted, but it still had air pockets on the inside, essentially making it structurally kind of weak. The rye could have used more sweetness, and if there was one thing off with the sandwich, it was the proportion of the heavier tastes. Guess I should have kept the mayo if, for nothing else, some lemony relief. That said, not a bad value at close to six bucks. Place was pretty empty when I went in and the staff was friendly and even said goodbye to me.

Bread sandwich sparingly seasoned with meat.

We usually really like Schlotzskys however the service was absolutely terrible today. The servers could care less.

I ordered drive thru on two separate days last week, and they were both so helpful and accommodating.

Unfortunately, what followed felt less like a return to a favorite and more like a reminder of how far a once-reliable experience can drift. The dining room was modestly busy primarily four-top tables already filled yet the pace at the entrance suggested a restaurant operating beyond its rhythm. I waited to be seated while the staff moved with the weary urgency of a team stretched thin. When I was finally shown to my table, the tone was set: my server appeared courteous, but understandably worn, as though the evening had already asked too much. The meal itself mirrored the atmosphere. The shrimp appetizer arrived first -- competent, but uninspired. Perfectly acceptable, yet lacking the brightness or seasoning that might make it memorable. It did its job, but no more. The chicken sandwich followed, and here the disappointment settled in. It was serviceable, but noticeably removed from the quality and character I remembered. The texture, the flavor, the overall execution all felt diminished, as if the recipe remained but the care had quietly left the kitchen. By the end of the visit, the experience began to explain the lower online reviews. Nothing was outright poor, yet nothing rose above ordinary. And for a brand that once stood out, ordinary feels like a missed opportunity. There is clearly a strong foundation here, one built over years and loyal customers who remember when the food and service carried more energy and consistency. Perhaps the path forward isn't reinvention, but a return. A return to the standards, the recipes, and the attention that made this location worth the visit in the first place. But then again, what do I know? I'm just someone who's been coming back since the Florida days, hoping to taste what made it special.
