Yes, their prices are a little more expensive than some if the big box stores but anytime I've had a question about something I didn't know they've always been able to answer it and/or solve it for me. They do have a good assortment of different items and if they don't have it or have been out of stock they have either ordered it or got it back in stock in a short amount of time. They do have a small parking lot. They're located not far off of route 8. Only about a mile off of the highway. Tis the season upon us for ice and snow, they've always had ice melt in stock when the big box stores have sold out. So don't be to quick to forget about them or discount them. They're a great resource there when you need it. Stop on by. You'll see. read more

I have been a customer for over 20 years and I have NEVER had bad service there until now. The first person I spoke with seemed a bit lost so I asked to speak to a manager. I don't know who I actually spoke with but I truly hope he wasn't the person in charge! Someone representing a family owned business should show care and compassion for their customers. Professionalism is probably a good idea too. I will never go back and I don't suggest anyone else does either. Go to The Home Depot. You'll get better treatment and prices! Found this place on the www. I called the place this AM (during biz hours). No one answered. It left my number and someone called back in about 1 hour. I described the part (primer tube for a hedge trimmer) I needed and was told they the tube and volunteered the price (per inch). Ok, fine. Thanks. I'll be in. First time in the place. Sprawling inventory. Shelves are packed wall to wall. Mulch! Paint! Plants! Etc! Customers? Ok, It's Wednesday. (FYI Red White & Blue Thrift Store a couple of miles away. The lot and the isles were JAMMED! Back at S&S "proudly in business since 1925" The price per inch for the primer tube just magically doubled. Did Biden just leave? Of course I said ahhh, that's double what I was told just an hour ago, and the response of course was, "Well, who did you speak to? I said, "you know that person that never gives their name." Seriously this is my first time here, and I'm thinking of the ol' expression, "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. Then the owner or manager interjected something less than half personal from the other aside of the room, and I returned the courtesy. Basically, this is your chance to earn my future business, or not. The check-out-person corrected the price. Did you get you're hose sir? Well, maybe. Not sure he really cared anyway. Will not go back here, however, because of the position I was put in having explain why I was right. You just don't do that to customers! Which reminds me of another ol' expression, "Never explain. I went in yesterday to get a hose adapter for my hose that I just bought. Unfortunately my hose is. 3/4 female and my male hookup at home was 1/2. When I walked in I grabbed tape that I needed and asked where the hose adapters would be. A man walked me over to the isle and I showed him my hose and said I needed an adapter and showed him the hook up at my house. Although there were 25 and I'm just estimating but at least 25 different adapters he told me he didn't have any for my hose and asked why I had that on my house ," It shouldn't be there just take it off". I explained it was fused onto the line so I needed an adapter. He refused to help me and I finally put the tape back and walked out. I went 2.2 miles up to ACE hardware in Wolcott walked to the isle found my male/female adapter and was on my way. I can't even begin to express my frustration that I was talked to like I had no clue what I was needing and he calls me names on the way out the door. I will never return to this store and will take my business to Ace instead. I've done business with them for years but never again if this is who they're going to employ to represent their business. read more

I have been going here for many years. It's a small local neighborhood hardware store. It's a little pricey but I like the customer service I get here and I like supporting local places like this. Most recently, I had bought 2, 50 lb. bags of road salt. After I bought it, the Schmidt's and Serafine's employee carried both bags out and put them in my car for me. I have had similiar service in the past when I had purchased large bags of fertilizer. You don't get this kind of service at Home Depot. read more

Never, ever, ever will I use this company again. I called them to pick up my snow blower on September 23. They picked it up on November 3rd. The young fellow said it would be done by December 1st. Wasn't done until December 14th. No one could tell me the cost of a winter service and replace a shear pin. I knew pick up and delivery would be $50 which I thought was a fair fee for transportation. However, when they finally were able to tell me the cost of repairs. I was floored. The service portion was over $380.00!!! For a simple winter service. That's like paying nearly $400 to have a lawnmower tuned up. I am partly to blame for not demanding an estimate, but past services at other companies averaged about $200 and turn around was about 4 weeks and not 7. I'll be going back to RPM in Prospect, Ct. read more

Good ratings, overall good service in the lawn mower department especially. Mr. Fusco was excellent on the phone and even better in person. Delivered my mower as promised. If you go into the store, they will help you 100%. A bit more pricy than big box stores, but customer service is very very good. Can't say the same for their people on E. Aurora St in Waterbury where repairs on done on lawn equipment. VERY rude on the phone. Stick with the people on Chase Ave and you won't go wrong. read more

Love this place. Prices may be high and parking is the pits, but the quality of service that you get cannot be beat by any run of the mill discount depot store. Warranties included are helpful and they even have a repair center that will pick up your equipment (for a fee). Came in for a snowblower and left with one ontop of some other useful winter tools. If you live in the area and are tired of franchise stores with low product knowledge college kids, this is the place to go. read more

Schmidt's & Serafine's gives great personal service. Anytime I go there they help me find whatever I need, carry my purchases to the car for me most of the time without my ever asking them to; I never have a problem there. Years ago when I needed a bolt for the running board on a van I no longer own, the salesman even came out to the truck and tried several bolts and tools until I had exactly what I needed. I can't imagine any big chain store having a worker come out into the parking lot like that and make sure I had the right tool and bolt for the job. I would highly recommend this Waterbury store. read more

Purchased a "brand new" chainsaw with extended warranty...... after only one use the saw was pouring fuel out of the carburetor. Returned to the power equipment dept. and was told that there was nothing they could do to help me, even after their employee verified the problem. Had to send elsewhere to repair and cost me over $150 to fix. I spent extra for the better commercial saw just so I wouldn't have this problem. I am very pleased with the service I received from the store today. I was on my half hour lunch break and needed to get a key made for my home. I walked in and the woman working in the front area asked to help me right away. I had a key that I purchased online (specialty NFL team) and called several key making places to get it copied, but no one would do it. She took the keys and copied them within a few seconds. She even did this service free of charge due to not being able to guarantee the work since the key wasn't purchased there. I am so impressed with her service, timeliness, and friendly demeanor. You don't see that in stores or any businesses very often and it was refreshing. read more

What can I say. Bad service. Very very slow. Charged me for an oil change even though they had to break the engine down anyway. I'm sure they were charging me for something that was covered, but I paid the $130 just to get the mower back. Stay away! read more

The people at the repair facility are horrible. They do not communicate well. I brought in a chain saw because it wouldn't start. I told them not to touch the chain even though it was on backwards. I explained to this to the person writing up the service order. I said I would take care of that. I also told them it was under warranty, therefore I was not expecting a bill. All I get is a phone call to pick it the chain saw. When I get there, I get a bill for 85 dollars unexpectedly. They put a new chain on and said I had bad gas. What they should have done is give a call and say tell me what is happening with the chain saw. For now on I will go to the Hardware store in Southbury. They have much better service down there. I will never go back. They need to keep the customer up to speed on what's going with the customer's equipment. read more

Love this store and the people. But very disappointed in the repair facility on Huntington Ave. take my Toro snowblower in for a tune up every couple of years. This time it came back worse than when I left it. The engine kicks back when you pull the starter cord and kills my hand. And the belt to the blower blades slip. Also had to call and remind them they had it. read more
