Small dark old style German restaurant with a menu sure to satisfy any craving. My Osso Buco was excellent. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife had the veal schnitzel, I thought it was a little tough and it could have been hotter, it also came with mashed potatoes and green beans. We sat at the bar which was empty except some slobs dropping F-bombs every other word! Service was good but if that was my bar and there were ladies present I would have told them to stop, plus the two bartenders were ladies. Great beer selection and giant steins. read more

If you like a good Braühaus, Schnell's competes with the best in my book. The food brings me back to the Chris Kringle Market and I have my heart strings in a knot over the entire glass BOOT of bier I get to enjoy every time I come here. A weird recommendation I got from one of the bartenders named Christina was to put caramel on the cheese curds. Why you ask? They taste exactly like funnel cake! It's freaking ridiculous. I order them just like that every time now. The Braühaus itself is really cool and clean too. Pretty much an all wood interior and a grand selection of liquors for your choosing. They may open at 4pm but it's ways worth the wait. 5 Stars! read more

Easy on-street parking. This is a sports bar with tables and a video gambling area. Understaffed the night I was there - one person doing triple duty as order taker, bartender, and waitress. Mediocre food, the pork schnitzel was thin, overcooked, and cold, the liver dumpling soup was mediocre, but the beer was cold. Not all entrées were brought out at the same time, which was awkward and food that was served was getting cold, probably attributed to the short staff. I visited a German restaurant in this same location a number years ago, but this is obviously been remodeled and under new ownership and was a very great disappointment, I will not return. read more

This kitchen is kickin. Come here and don't sleep on the flavor. You want a beer it's all real and german here. Don't ask for a miller, grab a pint of Spaten and learn to be a man. The food is unbelievably delicious, from the german specialities, especially the massive sausage plate. Every thing on the menu rocks and is full of flavor. This place is so on or off. After a couple good experiences, I visited last night with a neighbor. We both had veal schnitzel. The veal was overdone, thick and tough. The breading was NEARLY burned. Not blackened but that very smokey taste was there when it shouldn't have been; the spaetzle was small portioned and overcooked. The sour kraut tasted right out of the can and the dinners were plated, well, not hot. The upside is the wait staff who are really on point and as pleasant as can be. I'll be back but not anytime soon. read more

Was in there last night to sit at the bar with a friend and we could not hear each other because there were young men at the end of the bar loud and obnocus. What a wonderful bar / restaurant! The service was great and European food was delicious! Our family enjoyed the Goulash, Schnitzel, Pork Roast and the Sauerbraten. The Sauerbraten was so tender you can easily enjoy with just a fork! To complete our meal we finished with German Chocolate cake and Apple Strudel as desserts. The Apple Strudel comes as a very generous sharable portion! We will be definitely coming back for more! read more

I visited Schnells once again didn't so much go there for the food it not authentic German food and the quality is hit or miss. I went for the music. Johnny Wagner played last night , he's a wonderful entertainer. He put on a good show. Service was the same as I expected as in previous visits, slow and inattentive. Bar tenders were drinking shots behind the bar. It's seems more of a private club that a public restaurant and bar. Disgusting!!!!! Everything has changed recipe wise. I tried to have them take it back after I was grossed out and the server had to call the owner who insisted I Do Not get my money back. An owner who hides behind his sever is a coward and knows their food is not good. Manager comes out and literally starts a fight with me in front of the whole restaurant and bashing me as a person! WT heck is wrong with that crazy woman and she kicked ME out like I was the problem. Absolutely horrified by this experience. At least I didn't pay! Second visit to Schnell's.....first visit went well enough to go back for another. Second visit will have me not going back. Went in on a Friday evening, the place was busy....with only one server,one bartender and one buster.. After forever we finally got the servers attention and placed a drink and appetizer order. Took forever to get the cocktail, of course it could be that it took so long because the server took a break to do a shot with other patrons. Finally got our cocktail, vodka tonic that tasted like Sprite and water. Got so frustrated watching the lack of action of the minimal staff that we put $$ on the table for the crappy cocktails and walked out. Perhaps they were simply short staffed, maybe a server didn't show for a shift.....or perhaps management failed at their job.....perhaps one or both of the Schnell brothers should have been in their establishment supporting their operations.....what ever the reason, I have no reason to return. read more

I took my husband, dad and grandfather here for Father's Day along with my kids. They seemed very busy, perhaps under staffed, but Matt our server was great. It probably took 2 hours start to finish which was fine since weren't in a hurry. I had an elderflower martini which was really interesting and delicious and the pork Wiener schnitzel. What's not to love about this place! Schnell's Brauhaus is an authentic family owned German pub and restaurant in downtown Palatine. There is ample parking around the pub and seating both inside and outside. They feature a large selection of German beers on tap as well as wines. All food is made in house and they have German specialties like beef rouladen, schnitzel in beef, chicken or pork, sauerbraten and their in-house made sausages. The inside is typical German hand carved wooden bar, seating and motif. It looks like a lodge you would see in Düsseldorf, Germany. The food was very nicely prepared and was delicious! Everything from the potato pancakes, the sauerkraut, schnitzels and strudel. We tried the veal and chicken schnitzels and both had very generous portions with very flavorful sides. We really loved the red cabbage as it was sweet, a little sour and really complimented our meals perfectly. We really liked that they took a healthy approach by using oil instead of lard to prepare all of the items! The hot apple strudel desert was made with real hand peeled chunky apples and was absolutely delicious. If it wasn't so busy I probably would have asked if they could sell me a strudel to take home! Tyler our waiter was super friendly, very attentive and made sure we had a fun dining experience. As it's Oktoberfest season during the time we went and very busy, I noticed the small staff worked hard as a team like a machine to help each other with whatever was needed! The whole staff went above and beyond to make sure you had a good time. We sure will be returning to try more of the other items. Schnell's is German dining and drinking at its very best! Welcome to downtown, German-town Palatine! Walked into this restaurant, bar known for its German cuisine and ambiance knowing we were in for a great time with good food. Stacey and Becca behind the bar are just full of knowledge and recommendations to make one's experience perfect. What we absolutely loved was the explanation of the menu from beer to food. And OMG... the beer choices, off the tap, excellent, and the food made to perfection. We devoured our perfectly cooked pretzel with all its dippings and we left with lunch for tomorrow from our over the top portion sizes of chosen entrees. Absolutely, in love with this authentic German menu. Give it try if you are in for a night of escape from our border to another! OH... DO NOT FORGET TO ORDER THE HOMEMADE APPLE STRUDEL! I went on a Friday night with a friend and there are moving animal heads of the wall, German beer house decor, they had club music going, and some guy was just reading a book at the bar. Seems like it could be a family establishment except for the fact that some of the music was pretty inappropriate for kids.
