Came by on a weeknight to have a beer & sandwich & quickly discovered there was only one person working the bar/tables. We should have left at this point, but the waitress came up to us as we were putting on our coats. It took 20 min for the drinks to arrive & going on an hour....still no food! I have had very few experiences as horrible as this one. I came with a group of friends for dinner last night. I'm not one for fried food, so I went for the grilled chicken and avocado wrap. A couple of hours after dinner, I ended up with food poisoning and ended up in the ER overnight as a result of that. Another member of my party, found a hair in her grilled chicken and avocado wrap which should have been a red flag for the rest of us. A third member, got the pork schnitzel sandwich and ended up with an upset stomach later that night. I am very disappointed that about half of the party had such negative experiences. Aside from the food, the service was very disappointing as well. Our orders were taken very sporadically. The food came out one at a time with sometimes 10 mins between people. As a courtesy we were waiting on each other to start eating, which resulted in people eating cold food as well. Overall, I am very upset about this experience and will not be returning. I rarely post reviews, but I think others need to be made aware of this to prevent them from having such an unpleasant evening. read more

Ate here last night for 2nd time. There must be new owners because the menu was very reasonably priced and the portion sizes generous. Had the chicken schnitzel and loved it. What a great value. Of course there beer selection was on the mark. Definitely making this my go too German fare. read more

This place was great! So many beer options, they also have my favorite vander mill cider(not many other places carry it). I got a HUGE pretzel it was so yummy. It came with a cheese sauce and a mustard, they where both delicious. I will definitely be back to have a full meal and try more drinks. read more

I love this place! The food is always good. They have a beer called Vitus, $8 for a half liter! It's amazing. The bartenders are all super nice. It's a great bar to go to that's chill and not rowdy like some other Palatine bars. read more

I love the beer menu at this place. Great German beers and Great local selections too. First of all, THE best fried cheese curds around, ask for 'buffalo sauce' you won't be disappointed. The food and drinks have always been good, but the last two visits were a disaster. This last time, we waited about an hour for our food and finally walked out. We thought a quiet weekday night would have been less rowdy since the time before, it was not only busy but the sound system was really loud. Waited to be seated for ten minutes. We walked in the door and watched a waitress (dark hair with glasses) having a conversation with patrons in a booth. Neither she nor anyone else acknowledged us. After ten minutes, we walked out and proceeded to Gianni's Cafe, which is walking distance, and enjoyed a delicious meal. We were looking forward to their rouladen and schnitzel, but the lack of customer service was evident. So we most likely won't make the long drive to give them a second chance. read more

Miss baurs, used to go there every fri with my friends, food is garbage but the beers similar , higher prices and the only good thing left is the moose head and the best waitress Karen, I wish they'd bring baurs back with the same staff awesome outfits and bugers and cheese curds will never go again. read more

We come here often enough for an app and a beer. We decided to have the special, sauerbraten. Greatly disappointing. The serving was ample, the red cabbage was grand, but the main dish, the meat and gravy was cold. It must be preportioned and microwaved. Definitely not their best effort. I tried to love this place. I really did. It was my hangout when it was bauer's (thats what it was called before it was sold). I just cannot go here. From the first day, the owner says he's only going to be there on opening weekend, and I've never see him again. He's there all the time. The menu is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. and I mean OUTRAGEOUS. Food was a little better when it was bauers, but who cares. I walked in once after a concert at 45 minutes to close and ordered a liter of beer. the owner then gave the bartender a very hard time in front of me for serving me such a large drink so close to last call. He also grabbed a girl I was talking to (on a different day) and removed her from me. I stopped going there, but yesterday was my friends birthday, they wanted to be there, so I went, but since I'm on a diet, I was only drinking shots because I'm counting calories. I drank 16 shots and was still standing. I felt like I had had 4 beers. The shots all tasted very watered down. I went next door to TJ's, ordered the same shot, and POW! felt like a kick to the mouth. They charged me 5 dollars a shot for watered-down booze. Thats the last straw. I need everyone to know. I hope they go out of business or someone else buys the bar. thats outrageous. read more

Guess we'll never find out. Went there on a gorgeous Wednesday night recently and since they have outside seating, we grabbed a table out on the sidewalk. Within seconds, the foul stench of cigar smoke floated our way. Smoking is not allowed in an outdoor dining area and signs were clearly posted. Some people were even coming out of the restaurant and crossing the street to the smoking area, so it's no secret. This table of 4 or 5 "regulars" just kept puffing away despite people eating just feet away. There was even a table with children next to them. What got us - the staff never said anything to them. A manager never came over to explain the rules to them. What's next - they going allow it indoors? read more

We are so disappointed on Monday night to watch the Hawks in the playoffs. Actually tried phoning in our drink order to the bartender, Chole, however she was much too busy in the"bathroom" to take care of us or to answer the phone that went to VM twice! We have been coming here at least once a week since we moved to the neighborhood in October. Tonight was just awful...side note food was delicious as usual, service sucked. If you must compare, better than Bauer's that was in the same location. Staff is efficient and friendly, management is professional and the food...well the food is delicious. My other half and I have been sending people over to ensure the menu keeps the German fare. Love the red cabbage (as good as Mader's in Old town Milwaukee) and the Wurst platter. The beverage selection is wide with the best German beer selection in town. Keep up the good work! read more

Too expensive for what you get. I had two beers and a light appetizer for 25 or 30 dollars. I don't love that. Service was nice and also slow. That doesn't matter to me but if you've hungry it might. All in all I'm not a huge fan. Emmett's is right near by and a lot more fun!! read more

Love the guys that own and run this place. Same guys as The Donkey Inn. I am just not sure a German Brauhaus in Palatine is the answer. I would love to see one of two things from this place. First would be a menu similar to that of the Donkey, which is fantastic and has something for everyone. Or the second thing I think palatine severel misses out on is a country or even "country light" type place. I am actually not a huge fan of that type music but if done right, can bring in an awesome clientele These guys running it are sharp and I am sure they will make this work or switch it to something that does. Rarely post reviews but this place is awful now. Had been there in the past and remembered the food better, seems as though there is new cook or kitchen has lost focus. It was a Saturday night and there was one waitress serving the entire place. Service was slow and waitress kept darting from the table before we could finish talking. Schnitzel and spaetzle had no flavor. If you are looking to sit at bar and drink beers, maybe. If you want authentic German food or place for nice casual dinner.... there are much better options. Fun beer selection - for some drafts, you can get entire liters of beer! I ordered one and it was quite the experience. I highly recommend their uber pretzel as well - it was way bigger than I expected, and had a savory flavor that I truly enjoyed. read more

First time visit last nite, and the last. I went because of the good reviews but was sorely disappointed. Its a small sports bar that thinks its a German hofbrau house. Its more proud of their burgers than the weak few German dishes. We had the goulash and ugh, it was bad. I thought it was a sample dish to try. You get 5 little cubes of dried beef, some red sauce with no flavor and some good Spaatzel, but they were more like baby potstickers than noodles. The burger and beer was good, but the Reuben sandwich had dried corned beef in it. On top of that, the service was BRUTAL. It was like they just hired her off the street that day. I wanted to like it, but there are many other places that have good burgers and beer. Take a pass. read more

Originally I thought this place was going to be a gold mine and I loved coming here. Having a place that sold German fare is great since no other restaurant in Palatine provides that. Even as a vegetarian, I was able to find things on the menu I really enjoyed. Things quickly turned for the worst and I am glad to see there are new owners but other than keeping beer stocked, (which was a constant issue for the previous owner) the atmosphere is rather dull, they still have disgruntled employees that seem irritated with the manner things are run, and the menu was slimmed considerably. The location and space is very nice, it just seems that they are falling short in a lot of little areas. Hope to see them spice up the place so it becomes more appealing. read more

we have been going to the Brauhaus for the past few years and looooved the deviled eggs with rye bread as appetizer. We got a big surprise when we stopped recently to find the new owners had discontinued the eggs. In my opinion a big mistake. We ordered the schnitzel and german potato salad. The schnitzel was dry as paper and the gravy was not good. The potato salad was not warm and should be called potatoes. Very disappointed with the meal and the higher prices. Was great to see our favorite waitress, Karen, though. She has a vast knowledge of the place and is a huge asset. May come back someday for the beer but not the food. Sorry but the new owners should not have messed with the menu. read more
