Located on the 2nd floor. The atmosphere gives me vibes of southwestern meets starry night. It feels very welcoming and well lit. I've gone to the downtown deli for over 20 years and it's been my favorite deli ever since. However I recently heard that the Ada Grill version has a very good burger. So I ordered the Cowboy Burger ($16). This has two 4 oz burger patties grilled, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, haystack onions & bbq sauce. It was very good. For Local-ish Burgers it just cracks my top 10. It come with chips, but I upgraded to fries ($3.5). They definitely aren't worth an additional almost 4 dollars. They are good, but also nothing special. I also ordered my favorite deli sandwich of the Phil J ($15.50) to go. It was as good as the downtown location, however I felt ripped off. There was about half the normal chicken salad on it. Also the chips don't travel well if you're refrigerating it for later. The service was excellent. Very friendly and provided quality service. Overall a 4 1/2 star review. Since I have to round, it becomes a 4 due to the small amount of meat on the deli sandwich. Would I return? Overall for the deli side I'll probably stick with downtown location, however for a good dinner yes I would come back. read more

I really enjoyed this spot! Me and my mom stopped by on a Saturday for lunch and it was pretty busy but there were a couple tables available. When you walk up the stairs there is an ordering counter forward and to the left and they give you a number after you order and bring the food to your table. I had a pop which is self serve, a Reuben, and a side of pasta salad. I loved the pasta salad. It was very fresh. The Reuben was plays the flavors were great but the meat was super fatty and chewy. I'd get a different sandwich next time. Seems like a nice spot to have a casual lunch with friends and also a place you could hang at the bar for a while :) felt like a small town vibe which was fun. read more

Usually this place is pretty good but we also have not been here in a bit. To say we were disappointed this time - may be an understatement. My French dip was okay by itself, but the au jus sauce was so salty I couldn't use it. It was like kicking straight salt. Maybe the worst au jus sauce I've ever had. My son had the Gorgonzola tortellini w steak. Was good not great. My wife had the southwest salad and it was good, nothing special. Service was good. Kitchen seemed slow. read more

Ok food. Ordered the California Reuben, the turkey meat was abundant...but cold in middle. The sandwich would have been excellent if the entire sandwich was hot. The potato salad was absolutely fantastic and I wish I had bought some to take home. The fries were cold and not really that good. We did have to go upstairs to get to the restaurant I imagine there is an elevator somewhere. To me not really worth the drive from GR to meet my friend. So very sad... this was my all time, top of the line, favorite, most stupendous deli must haves - in the past. Admittedly, I haven't been in some time so I jumped at the invite from my buds. They also have closed earlier than posted hours on several occasions that I tried to order, leaving us without a meal option we were led to believe was available. First time eating at this restaurant this early afternoon; would definitely return!!! First off there is limited parking on the street in front and in back of the restaurant. If you drive south past the restaurant on Ada Dr it's not even half a block to some excellent parking. The restaurant has very poor signage so it's easy to miss. It's up about a flight and a half of stairs, I did not think to check for accessibility, sorry! Totally charming venue, casual great bar feel with wood floors and tables etc. Massive bar against the back wall. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Lady running the counter super nice, young lady who delivered our drinks also super nice, young man who brought us our food not super nice. They got the order wrong, had to be sent back, and we literally got a full in the face eye roll and disgusted look - save it for the cook who got the order wrong, not our fault dude. Normally that level of rude would drop this review to a 1 or 2 star but we weren't here to deal with his snit. We sat comfortably in front of the fireplace. Food was delicious when it finally came. Despite its usual dinner hour crowd, their upstairs location in a tree lined section of Ada can have a cozier and quieter feel than other spots in town in that it has an enjoyable outdoor space for nice weather gatherings, an inside fireplace for cooler days. The food was great, everything was fairly priced for the amount of food they give. I had the French dip and the Au Jus was very flavorful and added the perfect amount of saltiness to my sandwich. The BLT sandwich had a ton of crispy bacon in it, they do not skimp out on the good stuff!! The only reason this place got a 2 star and we won't be back, is because we asked if anything was included with the sandwich.. to which our waitress replied yes chips or fries. But when we got our check, we got charged for our sides, and when I asked she tried to reissue her statement and asked if that made sense to me. I guess it never made sense to me because in the 7 years I was a server, if someone asked if something was INCLUDED it meant it came with the meal. After reading a few other reviews it makes me skeptical why we were charged. If you do come here, just keep in mind nothing actually comes included with your sandwich. read more

According to the reviews, this place is very hit or miss. We came for a late night dinner with a group of 6 people. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly. We sent one drink back because it was made incorrectly but they quickly made a new one and were very apologetic. I ordered the fish and chips with a side salad and it was huge. A few people had salads that were also massive. The fish and chips were tasty and cooked well. The light breading was a relief compared to other restaurants. I didn't love the breading but I did like that it was only lightly breaded. A few people tried my coleslaw but no one could really decide if they enjoyed it or not. Two words. Stay away. Went to this establishment this afternoon for some lunch after a morning conference at a large corporation across the street. Met the rest of my party there and got in line to order my food. (No table service during lunch hours - stand in line and order your food at the register) As it was slightly busy, a hostess was walking up the line to take preorders so that the line could move along at the register. Nice idea, props for that. She's actually the hero and only saving grace of this story. When it was my turn to order, I asked if I could order a different sandwich than what was in the menu. I was assured this was not a problem, happens all the time. I ordered a corned beef sandwich on rye, specifically like this... Rye bread, butter the rye, mound of corned beef, lettuce, double Swiss, with mustard. Nothing about toasting it, nothing about heating the corned beef. Pretty simple sandwich, right? I also ordered a side of cole slaw and a water to drink. Drinks are self- serve. Total came out to $16.17. I left a 3.20 tip, which I think is pretty decent for a self-serve lunch. I received my cole slaw at the counter before I left. Got my water and sat at the table waiting for my sandwich. Sandwich arrived. Wrong. Cold bread, warm meat. Nope, not what I ordered. Sent it back. Ok... mistakes happen. I can wait. I even made sure to reinforce what I wanted. Second sandwich came out. Wrong. Everything toasted. Again, sent back, and reiterated what I ordered. Third sandwich arrived. Wrong. No butter, no cheese. This time I just said this is ridiculous and asked for my money back. I was refunded for the sandwich, they kept the money for the slaw (fair, I suppose - I did eat it after all), but they also had the nerve to keep the tip. Really? You think you deserve a tip after all that? Three sandwiches and you couldn't get one right? I served myself everything else or it was handed to me at the counter. As I stated earlier, the hero of the story is the hostess, who witnessed the whole event and brought me a huge brownie in an attempt to help make things right. I certainly do appreciate her. Came here with a friend for lunch and the menu is huge with many different sandwiches pus build your own option. I ordered a warm roast beef with provolone and a horseradish Mayo on a brioche bun. Everything was delicious, the only wish was that there was more of a horseradish flavor. The roast beef was lean and plenty of it. Instead of fresh fries that are delicious, I ordered a broccoli salad for my side. The broccoli salad is so sooo good. Nice fresh, crisp broccoli very lighted dressed with bacon and I believe some sesame seeds too. You order at the counter and then find a seat. Not their finest hour... We just returned from Schnitz after a couple of recent less than stellar visits. Due to the inattentive host and waiter service and food that was not prepared well by the kitchen, we will choose other places to go. Certainly not worth the value for the experience. Things have fallen off there in the past year and Ada deserves better options, which they fortunately have. I hope this review gives this once excellent family establishment an opportunity to reset and set higher expectations for good food and service. read more

When working in the area I always try and make it over for Lunch when I can. This place has some of the best sandwiches and service around. Friendly staff and the food comes out very fast. Always fresh meats and a wide variety of breads to choose from. My favorite by far is the Italian Hoagie. It comes stacked high with Italian cold cuts, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, onion, oil and vinegar, and mayo. I usually get mine toasted which I think adds to the flavor. They have several other specialty sandwiches to choose from with a wide variety of meats, cheeses, and breads. They also offer a few Vegan options. The soups are all homemade and full of flavor. I have yet to find one that I didn't like! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something a little different that still gives you that "Homey" feel. read more

Not sure what happened to this place, but it seems to have gone downhill. On previous visits to get sandwiches for lunch, I noted it did not seem as good as the Schnitz location on Fulton. Since then, the gap appears to have widened further. The last sandwich I got there had meat on it that did not have a fresh taste or consistency, and my son thought his was 'not really very good'. Not terrible sandwiches, but nothing I would venture out for. We recently had a guests in town and my wife suggested we all come here for dinner. I had not been here for dinner in a long time, but my recollection of that evening was pretty dim, so I agreed to try it again. My son got a 'build your own burger' (usually a reasonably safe option for a kid.) I noticed he was not really eating it although he had initially said he was really hungry. I asked him if I could take a bite of his burger and I instantly understood what was going on: the meat was definitely of lower quality with a gristly texture and very dry. The bun was actually kind of stale and the fries that came with it were starchy and tasteless. I ordered the "Grouper" for myself, which was a definite mistake. I was really off my game ordering grouper here because I'm aware that you shouldn't ever order grouper unless you really trust the place you're ordering it from. Many places try to pass off fish like weakfish, tilapia or scamp as grouper. Now, I'm not saying I was served an inferior fish labeled as grouper, but it was suspiciously thin for grouper and was really overly seasoned - something that should never be done with this fish. In any case, it was awful. Normally, I am not one to angrily send back food or question the establishment about the veracity of their sourcing, but I have done that when I've gotten a truly questionable or terrible dish. On this occasion, I did not because we had guests present as well as our children who just wanted to get out of there as soon as we were done. My friend got the chicken piccata and although he politely said it was "ok". I asked for a bite and realized he really was just being polite - it was terrible; greasy and overly salted. My oldest boy, who is quite tolerant and soft-spoken, pulled me aside and whispered to me "Dad, can we not come here again?" I reassured him we would not return. read more

This has been a 'go-to' dinner, lunch, and cocktail place for the past couple of years. Jeff, the owner is always accommodating and friendly. The staff are aware of GF options. I always order the wedge salad because it is one of the best. Their deli doesn't disappoint friends either, with sandwiches, salads, soups. Off the restaurant menu I and fiends have also enjoyed the pulled pork tostadas (on corn tortillas), pan seared tuna, steamed broccoli, and salmon. There bloody mary's aren't GF but there margarita's, martini's and whiskey/bourbon/scotch list is excellent. The environment is loud with a mix of high and low-tables, hard seats and soft booths. The outdoor deck is quieter. Recommended for all sensitivities. read more

Dinner out with my wife tonight. Did not want fast food, so we traveled to Ada for dinner. Missed the mark tonight. 1. Styrofoam cups because they had no more glasses. Say in a dining room for 90 minutes as the only ones drinking from styrofoam. Seemed to not bother anyone on the staff. 2. Took a long time to get meal. Was told that our dishes was the last of the special and flavor showed that it was. The dish was not very warm and one piece of meat was cut in half and placed on two plates.
