Went to Mudpenny for the first time for brunch. Decent crowd on a Saturday. Opted for the Kevin Malone instead of the Brunchwrap and I think that was the right choice. Burrito is packed full of hash browns, crispy bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese. The only downside to the Kevin Malone is that they use spinach instead of like a chopped lettuce for the burrito and the texture is a little overpowering. Plus, they don't chop the stems off the spinach, so I'd either order it without or pick some pieces out. I feel like the Brunchwrap has a thicker layer of it and as much as mixing in a green is smart, it has to be prepped properly in my opinion. Patatas bravas as a side were fire. The potatoes were roasted and seasoned well. It advertised a garlic aioli, but we did not get that. As with San Chez's patatas bravas, ask for the sauce on the side. It is a very good side of potatoes compared to the thinly, oddly sliced potato slices that came with the breakfast sandwich. They looked like apple slices and were sort of wet and soggy like them too. Nitpicking their spinach prep and refining their side dish of potatoes are really the only notes if someone from Mudpenny is actually reading this and got this far. MudPenny was a great treat for an out of towner! I was staying in Ada and MudPenny was across the street, location was great! The staff were warm and helpful. I got a brown sugar shaken espresso latte and a steak bowl and both were fantastic. I was surprised by the latte not being too sweet like most places, and you could still taste the coffee. The only downside to this restaurant was the heat, it almost felt like there was no air conditioning. I will say there are tons of windows and nice natural light, so that could be the culprit. They do have a nice patio if the weather is right, unfortunately when I was there the smoke was considered hazardous, so eating inside was the best option. All in all, I would recommend anyone trying MudPenny if you like to eat good ingredients and drink great coffee! read more

Never knew how beautiful Ada is! And to have such a cute brunch/lunch/breakfast place is an added bonus. The service was wonderful despite it being pretty busy. I ordered The Wild Card, which was PHENOMENAL! The mushroom mix they put on top was chewy and savory...SO GOOD! Went so well with all the root veggies and other roasted vegetables on the plate. Husband ordered their brunchwrap, which was also delicious, but kinda small for his liking. Food looked absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately it was lacking seasoning and overall flavor. I ordered the brunch wrap with chorizo -- the chorizo was cooked very crispy, almost like bacon, which I wasn't expecting. The aioli and hot sauce really saved the meal. The coffee, however, was excellent and I'll definitely be back for that alone. I also tried a bite of my husband's breakfast burrito and the sausage in that was very good. Service was as slow as i have ever seen in a restaurant that was not very busy. Two family members got the hash which was a huge portion and reported as very tasty. The fish tacos were inedible. A few tiny morsels of cod breaded and fried to a crisp. The chicken in the chicken sandwich was also fried hard and dry. My grandson had the kids chicken tenders which were tender and meaty but the breading was dense and soggy. The fries were great. My food was really good. Unfortunately, my wife's meal was completely disappointing. Even after sending it back, it was still inedible--which was surprising given how simple the order was: scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and pancakes. The pancakes were cold, as if they had come straight out of the refrigerator. The potatoes were soggy and cold and tasted like nothing but oil- no seasoning at all. The sausage was so dry that even drinking water didn't help and you could hardly cut through it with a fork. The eggs were initially runny on the inside and dry on the outside, which raised enough food-safety concerns that my wife sent them back. When the replacement arrived, the eggs were completely overcooked and dry and rubbery. She didn't finish her meal, and the waitress never seemed to notice that anything was wrong. After our stay at the Ada Hotel, we wandered across to Mudpenny for breakfast. What an incredible way to start the day! I ordered the Crème Brûlée French toast sticks. Not a single note...the sticks were so good that I was sad to take the last bite. The coffee was so tasty that I bought a can of their coffee beans to take home. Our waitress was lovely, checking in on us frequently. The restaurant was busy with all sorts of customers coming and going. They were very busy for a Tuesday afternoon! I was surprised to see people with work laptops, books, etc posted up at this busy restaurant, but the staff didn't appear to mind. My seasonal blueberry maple latte was such a fun summer twist on a standard latte! My Angela Martin burrito was tasty, but not really any wow factor to it. This used to be my favorite breakfast spot. The last two times, the experience has been rough. Today, we waited for 40 minutes for 2 kids' pancakes, avocado toast, and an omelette. When we finally found our server (who we hadn't seen in about 20 minutes), and asked how long it would be for our food, she came back with our kids' pancakes, which were ice cold. A few minutes later, she brought out our eggs, which were also cold. And, I had to ask for my coffee 3 times before getting it. Servers were nice, but not attentive or expedient in any way. When a place is packed, we can understand slightly slower service. But when the food comes out cold, and the tab is $70, that's disappointing. read more

Came here for dinner for the first time. They do a nice job of setting a dinner scene from the breakfast/brunch place it's known for. Black table clothes, low lighting, very light music. We stared with a couple cocktails that were good and chose the mushroom donuts that were recommended. Server described them similar to hush puppies. They were interesting and did remind me of a fried hush puppy with a mild, earthy flavor. The black garlic Mayo and chili honey they were plated with made the dish added more flavor to the donuts For dinner, I had the spare ribs with a sliced glazed carrots and cheddar polenta. Large portion and tasty with the meat very tender and went well with the polenta. My husband had the patty melt which was an elevated version of the sandwich on toasted brioche. He enjoyed that as well. They were out of the cab, but we found two different glasses of red wine to go with our dinner (Pinot noir and a cote du Rhône). MudPenny is what happens when the little coffee stand that could grows into a fantastic eatery/coffee joint/hangout spot. It's easy to like. Welcoming coffee shop vibe with a dining room to boot. Sit at the counter or take a table. Staff are friendly and proud of what they're doing. The menu I sampled was special for an event I was attending, but I did try a few of the regular dinner offerings. The tagliatelli dish is off the charts yummy. House made tagliatelli noodles are wide ribbons of al dente goodness, tossed with a light vodka cream sauce and served with thick toast. Just want dessert? Get the coffee creme brûlée--it's lights out fantastic. You'll tell yourself you're sharing, but you won't pass the spoon. MudPenny has become one of Ada's little gems. Lavender Oat Milk Latte: Not a sugar bomb like a lot of flavored lattes at your run-of-the-mill coffee shops. Perfect amount of lavender. Clearly, it's gorgeous There were plenty of other choices for baked goods and coffee drinks. The "latte lady" was a master (Super Bowl Sunday @ Noon; give her a raise). Oat milk is the only alternative milk they have. I was lost in conversation so I can't remember the lavender but the latte tasted as delicious as it looked! I usually get the Wild Arugula Salad with Chicken but decided on the Pomegranate Salad with chicken and no red onions. It had fresh strawberries, goat cheese, pecans and tossed in a pomegranate vinaigrette with mixed greens. There are no pomegranate seeds in it. It's perfectly dressed. The chicken is seasoned well and nice and cold. I hate when people put warm chicken on a cold salad. My husband got the wedge salad and said the blue cheese dressing was good. Came here for Sunday brunch and it was delicious!! It was busy the whole time we were there and if there's a wait, they will take your phone number and text you when your table is ready. There's lots to look at in the stores near them! The menu has a lot of typical brunch fare but with twists. My husband got an oat milk mocha the Wild Card which he said was delicious and very filling. I got the Angela Martin but asked for it to be without the wrap since I avoid gluten. They do have GF toast for an additional $2.50 so I got this on the side. With how much food they gave me, I definitely did not need to get toast! The restaurant has simple modern/sleek decor and there is a patio with outdoor seating. It is quite kid friendly - lots of littles and babies dining with their families! They have high chairs and a changing table in the bathroom. Overall it's a bit more pricey than diner fare for brunch but totally worth it given the quality and portions. We will be back! read more

So I had been wanting to try it and my daughter and I stopped by this morning. It was very clean and the decor is nice. The service was excellent. She had the latkes which were really good--the flavors were very well balanced. I have the OG Deuce in a tortilla which was excellent too, although I would say the latkes have a bit more complexity of flavors. We sat on the outdoor patio, which is quite nice. Went to MudPenny this morning with my family of 4 including an 18 month old toddler. Service was great with very attentive and family staff who had good knowledge of the menu and was able to make recommendations on different dishes. The environment is warm and cozy, great for a quick coffee and bite or there are some seats in the back corner for a longer stay. It definitely gets crowded over the weekend so come early or prepare to wait a little bit for a table especially if you have a bigger party. Food was good, we ordered the almond pancakes, French toast and chicken salad along with a mac and cheese off the kids menu. Everything came out timely and tasted great.
