The owner, Andreas, speaks broken english but his wonderful daughter, who is hostess, was kind enough to translate all our accolades. Very authentic family-owned German restaurant. True to its name it offers like twenty varieties of schnitzel (thinly pounded fried pork chop with bread crumbs), with your choice of pork, veal or chicken. There are also sausages and goulash. The entrees come generously with two side dishes: from spatzel (German pasta) to salad and potatoes in many forms. We were a bit surprised with the potato salad, which our waitress told us is Bavarian style, vinegary and served warm with bacon, not the chilled one w dill and pickle that we expected. Naturally, you should enjoy your meal with some nice German beer, which is available on tap and in bottles. And finish the meal with a nice apple strudel or black forest cake. I enjoyed a great German meal at this friendly, clean, family style restaurant. As soon as you walk up you are greeted with the German welcome sign on the glass "Willkommen!" The hostess immediately greeted and seated us. They do serve a modest selection of bottled and draft beers. I requested a Warsteiner draft to accompany my meal. The schnitzel Holstein with potato pancakes and red pickled cabbage as the sides made for a very tasty meal. I noticed the chef come out and ask the patrons, myself included, how were the meals. Well by know it should go without saying no complaints from me as I was already looking forward for my Apple strudel dessert to arrive. Great food, friendly service, plenty of parking! The Plain Schnitzel, which I squeezed with fresh lemon, was the best I have ever had and I have had some of the top German food in NYC. I have eaten at the Schnitzel House a few times now, and the food has always been solid. However, last night everything we ordered tasted even better than before. I had the Jäger Schnitzel with fried potatoes and dumplings. The Schnitzel was crispy and tender, and the mushroom sauce very flavorful. The fried potatoes had a nice salty flavor from the bacon and the dumplings also tasted great. Our table also enjoyed the Schnitzel Hawaii with pineapple and cheese and the Schnitzel Florida with a nice bright bell pepper sauce. We split a Black Forest Cherry cake for dessert, and it was a great interpretation of a German classic. The service was also friendly and fast, so we left very happy with our dining experience. read more

We were in town for business and found this truly authentic German restaurant. I moved to the US from Germany 8 years ago and know very well how German food should taste. They hit the nail on the head. All home cooked and very tasteful. Plus pricing is very reasonable. It was fun to speak to the owners in German and listen to their story. They put a lot of work in this family business. Unfortunately I live in Indiana and cannot make this place a regular for me. I had the liver dumpling soup and man that soup was tasty. The Jaeger Schnitzel has fresh mushrooms and a nice sauce. The potato croquettes were super nice. The red cabbage tastes like my mother makes it at home. As you probably know we just had Hurricane Ian. Well the Schnitzel House was closed for a few weeks. I found out they live in our neighborhood by them handing out their drinks so they didn't go bad. So we thanked them and promised that we would visit them. Last week we went there. Now we just left for the 3rd time in 10 days. This place is so good. Super fresh. The food was great! The server was quick and very nice, and overall everything was pleasant and cozy. My boyfriend and I both got the Jeager Schnitzel, I got the potato pancakes and spatzle, both were delicious! My boyfriend got the Kroketten and mashed potatoes, which were also good, the mashed potatoes had little chunks that were awesome.
