First time playing this golf course. Drove up from San Diego for a birthday round with a couple of buddies. It's a great spot because my friends, who don't golf as often as I do, were able to have fun, while I still enjoyed hitting challenging shots. Incredible views as well! Only issue was that when we showed up our tee time reservation was non-existent. I showed the email confirmation and was assisted by Sam. He called golf now to investigate the issue. Turns out it was a system error. Fortunately, Sam was able to work with the starter and get us out almost exactly on time. Really appreciate his help! Looking forward to coming back the next time I'm in town.

Went to the driving range with my family and unfortunately had a poor experience because of a certified golf instructor at the practice area today. It is not Daniel but somebody else. My sister wanted to try to hit some balls as a total beginner and she asked me for help. As her family and someone who has golf experience...yes I am going to point her in the right direction so she can have a positive time. I was verbally advising her along with adjusting her hand on the club as this is a contact sport and often times we need to be kinesthetically taught, not just verbally talked at. We weren't making swing motions. We weren't on the practice mat as we were speaking but still inside our station near the digital teleprompter close to the marked line. We were being respectful of others. I know I will need to step out of the station so no one gets hurt so I proceeded to do so then this man is standing at the line saying hello and we had no idea what he wanted but he proceeded to tell me that I cannot give advice or any coaching. I asked why is that? He then responded with "it is the golf course's rules and policies. I am a certified golf instructor and I teach. I stand at the line and am not allowed to physically touch the student." Mind you, he ditched his student to tell me this which I just find kinda funny. I was definitely confused. I can understand he felt threatened that I was "across the line" when he's not allowed to. I told him "okay that is odd. I will have to look into this because I have never heard of this. I won't touch her and will stay behind the line. " he says " yeah you can talk to her behind the line but you can't touch her. Thanks for understanding." And he returned back to his station 6 spots down mine. I found it funny because I was coaching my family member for 2-3 minutes and made sure it wasn't a whole rudimental lesson. Everyone has the freedom to give out knowledge if the person is seeking! people everywhere give unsolicited or wanted advice all the time. Certified Personal trainers at the gym don't walk up to two workout buddies to stop coaching and spotting each other because "this is my playground and my land." I went on Scholl's website and found nothing about this rule. I also searched online and came across 1 golf course from Singapore who bans advice. If this is true that I cannot touch or give basic advice at Scholl Canyon then okay but I've not heard anything like this at my times at Brookside or Debelle course. To turn it to an opportunity the guy could have introduced himself and says he does lessons if you need any help. I just feel sorry that the instructor is limited to only verbal instruction like a sound board. Well it makes sense why he talks too much. Returned the next day and the driving range was shut down randomly. Their maintenance really needs work as this happens too frequently.

I'm only ever here when, once in a while, I feel a need to see the LA skyline and surrounding neighborhoods like Glendale. Golf course itself is very meh, heavy emphasis on the meh part, some of the fariways are in horrible shape as well as the greens. Usually unrepaired fairway/green divots just make everything patchy and gross. Prices are decent for the views you get, be careful booking on a morning weekday. Very likely you'll play behind the morning regulars, mostly very old golfers. They'll slow down the pace of play substantially. Golf course itself is cool, drivable par 4's and short par 3's. Back 9 tends to be the actual fun part of the course as you start playing on the topside of the canyon.

Super excited for the range to get new range balls. Large bucket of all new balls. Their old stuff was getting bad! 9/19/2021.

Management, I hope you read this. It was nice for you all to upgrade your mats and add new yellow golf balls but the wait for range balls is ridiculous! Range balls always running out, long lines for range balls because they machine is always out, did I mention no golf balls is the normal at this range? You know golf has picked up, paying customers are paying for range balls, please have ample range balls in your machine for your range patrons! This is out of control! Please hire more staff. Everyone here is a paying customer and you're not providing the service!! We're charged monthly to be able to come out and grab range balls.

Hole #14th, par 3. Hit the green or loose your ball OB. Rabbit posing right in front of me.

I was referred by my coach to this day, I still come in to get restrung. They do a good job restringing and always put a label with the specs. They are fast and call you normally, within a few days maybe even less to pick-up. Their demo program is good. You can demo 1-2 rackets for a week then switch out. If you need a little more time with the rackets, phone in. They are pretty nice about it if you just communicate. I would rate 5 but the reason I put 4 stars is the "hits" and "misses" when I visit, particularly about the customer service and their general inventory. I've had top-class service from Beau previously, and a woman (I forget her name :( but she classifies herself as a hard hitter, heavy racket, and top spin player ha! She showed me how to determine if a racket is engineered to be power or precision rackets just by feeling and looking. They knew their stuff. The misses were when I came in and was offered help separate times, but I was offered not so great recommendations/ recs that were not what I needed, didn't mention some hint of knowledge that they understand different racket and string specs... average customer service of "yea, look around and see what you like. What you see is what we have" Thumbs down. This goes for the shoe section too. Now with their merch, they carry the popular stuff that sells but you can't get a racket in a particular color, underrated racquets, color shoes etc . No service to have the color/model shipped to the store. Also, I always check the sales section but every single time, I can never find my women's size 6/7 (which I know is the most popular shoe size) but I always see HUGE, multiple inventory of sizes like 10, 12, 14...this goes for shoes and clothing. I've never once bought anything at the sales section in my size, ever. They don't carry fun, stylish, likable colors of shoe models, tennis models..clothing like pleated tennis skirts with pockets, there's no current tennis hat or visor options, sweatbands, eyewear in different colors and styles, no cute bear key charms for tennis bag to promote Racket Doctor which I would proudly carry!...even not much color selection for grips. No patterns, no fun colors. I would be purchasing way more if they were more open and just more fun. Pricing is fair for their services. So they are very reliable for stringing service, and demo'ing, getting your usual Tour Bite strings but don't expect to find something in particular.

This time, my only complaint is that the Asian guy who was there didn't really seem knowledgeable when it came to string recommendations. He couldn't recommend anything similar to a specific string that I was looking for. Unlike the Caucasian man with the long hair that I previously had an encounter with.

Who wants that? Of course, you need a paid membership here for that privilege. Membership is tiered and you can pay just to play tennis or pickleball and the highest tier allows access for all the courts, including the squash and racketball ones inside. With a paid membership and through their app, you can book a time slot to reserve your court. Hardest times to get are around 5 pm and up on weeknights as those are considered prime times. Weekends during the day are usually easier to get as well, although after 7 pm the courts are open to the public and everyone in LA comes out and it's the wild west. Everyone floods the best courts - 5 and 6 which are dedicated pickleball courts, the only 2 in the compound - and then you get a real spectacle of players, from average to really good players. There is an elitist expectation it seems that only good players are allowed to play on these two courts, which is just laughable and leaves a stink of pickleball snobiness all around. But oh well. Just as a side rant here: anyone can play pickleball and be good at it. You don't have to be incredibly athletic to excel. Just go out and watch and you'll know what I'm talking about. Another annoyance is that eiquette and basic courtesy are often compromised during these open hours. Some times, you'll have a few rude idiots that just walk through your court instead of coming in from the outside. I don't know what it is, but pickleball seems to attract a lot of people who lack self awareness! Everything is on the honor system as there's nobody there to really enforce your reservation, so sometimes you'll get some who play over their allotted time. Just kindly ask them to leave and usually they comply. Then there's the real rare occasion where they give you attitude for some reason. Just hilarious. Imagine fighting over a court that doesn't belong to you? Lmfao! The whole compound is fenced in so you have to go through the main entrance to get in. I saw one guy jump over the fence once to get inside. How desperate are you to play, bro? Just pay for a membership like any other productive member of society. At any rate, all the other courts other than 5 and 6 are tennis courts that can be converted in half to 2 pickleball courts (there are movable nets on each court). The other fenced courts on the north end are all dedicated tennis courts. Inside the facility, there are some squash and racketball spaces that seem to always be occupied. There's even a gym inside for members, but the equipment there is pretty basic and sparse. As for making reservations, the app acts funky sometimes and you can't get a reservation even though there are open spots. You just have to keep trying or call the shop and they'll help out. Other than a few annoyances mainly from the non members, it's a great place to play tennis and pickleball day and night!
