Scholl Canyon Golf Course - This is why I love golf !! Tee off on hole #2 - Golf Near Me - Glendale, California

Unfortunately, this golf course has declined to an unplayable condition - literally. Even if you hit the green, there's a good chance a few pitch marks and or fissures will lie between your ball and the hole. However, if you're like most and miss the green most of the time, get ready for one or more of the following: a mud pit, overgrown weeds, clumps of unmowed grass, parking lot-like dirt patches, golf cart tire treads, cigarette butts, range balls, and on and on. Hence, you'll find yourself in an unplayable lie quite often. Even the tees, which are supposed to be rather level and mowed, are scarred with old, unfilled divots. They recently aerated the greens, which is fine. However, believe it or not, piles of 1-2 foot high aeration plugs littered the course. In fact, at the tenth hole, there was a 1.5-foot high wall of aeration plugs about 2 feet in front of the tees!!! Unbelievable. But to make matters worse, and what truly makes this golf course unacceptable and not worth a penny to play, is the sheer level of indifference most of its players clearly exhibit. You'll find unrepaired pitch marks all over the greens. Giant divots that have not been replaced. Broken tees, soda cans, cigarette butts, and random objects litter the course. Tire tracks through deep mud patches crisscross the course. And to top it all off, today, a fivesome with three carts was literally driving up to the greens, sometimes parking literally on the greens. I couldn't believe my eyes. And when I told the starter, he claimed that they've been told not to do - yet they continue to do so. Scholl Canyon is located on a gorgeous plot of land and the course layout is super fun. Unfortunately, it's rundown and not worth a penny to play. Sad. read more

*Driving Range* While all other driving ranges are open, a little drizzle forces this place to close for hours-days. The management has either neglected the landscape, which barely consist of any grass nowadays, or they have an awful maintenance team. On the driving range itself, the trackman has not been working for weeks. The range balls are dirty and wet af. They have completely stopped providing email updates on whether the place is closed or not. The shop is hit or miss when you call. Most of the time, you won't get anyone to pick up. Many golfers at the range. Nice and clean tennis courts. I think they could use a little more places to sit though for us parents who are watching their kids tennis match. Today, 9/12, I waited 30 minutes for balls and even then only a few came out. We went to the clubhouse and they told us to wait for 20 more minutes. 20 minutes later they closed up the ball machine and I wasn't able to receive the bucket. The customer service was horrible and the employee was extremely rude. This is not the first time this has happened either. Highly recommended for beginners and non-beginners alike. Was very well organized, greens were surprisingly better than expected. Course was not super challenging, but also not a super easy course. Perfect for a quick round / practice round. Range is a little crowded, however I did go early on a weekend, so that can be expected. Definitely will come here again! read more

Went on a Saturday. Had a mid day tee time. I arrived in the clubhouse 20 minutes before my tee time to pay and to get some range balls. Was informed by the guy at the counter that there would be a little bit of a wait on getting a cart. In return he comped a medium bucket of balls. Everything is good so far. But.....then, we Had to wait 40 additional minutes after our tee time (1 hour altogether) to get the cart. Our group paid for two carts. First cart to finally roll through for our group was given to the group behind us with a later tee time. They filled the cart and stood around waiting for other carts. 5 minutes later another cart shows up. That cart was given to our group. Then another few minutes and the other cart comes through. We were given that cart and then we proceeded to the first tee. Everything was starting to look good. No one was in front of us because no one had been able to tee off for about 30 minutes due to the lack of available carts. We played up to about the 5th hole. We ended up so far ahead of the group behind us (they were waiting on carts) we played a couple holes more than once. 5th hole, cart will only go up the hill while driving in a cut back pattern. A long drawn out pattern. Then the cart died before I made it up the hill. . Sat there for a minute with the cart off. Then I turned it back on and it finally reached the top of the hill and died. It died right next to an abandoned cart that had been abandoned by a previous party.. Hopped in the other cart and tried to see if it would go. Confirmed. Battery dead. After my previous cart sat for a few with the cart off.. I managed to get it back to the clubhouse. Inch by tiny tiny inch. Being it was downhill to the clubhouse, I was able to keep it going for just long enough to make it there. Asked for another cart once I got back... Some dummy who worked there was just sitting there aloof. "Can I get another cart" I asked. "Naw man" he said. To that I respond "what the fuck, this cart's dead. "Sorry" the dummy says. I walked into the clubhouse. Asked for a refund. Got a refund.. Ended up wasting the day dicking around with a bunch of dummies. Dudes couldn't have cared less. Not that them caring would have soothed my irritation. I'm well aware that things don't always go your way and shit happens. I get it. It's not a new phenomenon. There was just too much cart and not enough golf..the cart and the play should work in unison. I'm not averse to walking. I like to hike and all that. But I was ill prepared to walk the remainder of the course and my buds still had their cart (for the time being). I said later to my bros and bounced. I did alot of driving that day.. I just wasn't doing it on the golf course or on my golf course conveyance. Maybe I'll go back someday.. Maybe the dummies will have moved on to different jobs. Who knows. I don't think I'll be back for a long time. Maybe they'll eventually realize people like to ride golf carts and they like teeing off near their booked tee time. Also, they might realize that golf carts run on batteries. Those batteries eventually cease to supply power. A good remedy for this dilemma is plugging them in. Get more carts dummies. read more

If you have the membership you would think during the summer they would extend their hours, nope. They would rather keep their labor cost down and still collect their monthly dues. Overall, great deal for the price. Especially good for iron practice. Putting greens are surprisingly challenging and not slow (but also not always in the best condition). Amazing views, from DTLA to the ocean (on a clear day). Par 60 allows for a quick, 2 hour round if it isn't too busy. You really can't find a better 18 hole, executive course in the area. (5 stars if at times the greens weren't patchy and bunkers weren't muddy). When you play it, please fix your divots :) read more

On June1st, I played here and I never seen so many foresom back up it was terrible. they were 4 to 5 groups waiting on ever hole just about!! WAY OVER BOOKED. never again on the weekends. Took us 51/2 hours to finish this course, and only par a par 60. read more

Back in the day, I used to play golf a bit and practice at the range at Scholl Canyon. I didn't care too much for the course since it's a par 3 course though it's a nice view of the city from uptop the Glendale hills. This course is built over a landfill. That's the reason you'll run into flys which is a bit annoying. The other side of the hill is the other half of the landfill that was capped off. I'm not sure if part of the landfill is still being used as a dump. The range is awsome overlooking the view of downtown LA at night. It's not overcrowded with the exception of summer and early spring time. The range closes late at night and sometimes find myself the last one there. Cell reception is horrible if your looking to make phone calls. I do find people sneaking into the golf course at night.. To make out or you know what. Just becareful of the coyotes cause they're out there and they'll bite ya! read more

Have only been here for the drive range so cant speak for the course itself. Overall its a good spot with a nice view of DTLA. Cant really complain about the range. The staff seemed polite the times I've been. Haven't had an issue. It is a little pricier than other location but its near me so cant complain. I will say the only downside is there are a lot of dead spots for cell phone service but obviously nothing they can control really. read more

I've been practicing every night at their driving range for six months. Recently, there have been serious management issues showed up that really hurt members experience. I will listed them below and hopefully they can have a responsible management team step in and make a difference. 1. Their Trackeman system has been down for at least three weeks. This is, I believe, one of the top reasons members come here to practice. People like me drive 20mins one way here for this benefit, which is paused and no follow-ups on when it could be back. 2. Poor communication and responsibility. They stopped communicating when the range is close since Dec 23rd, 2023. There have been twice I came in during a non rainy day and found the range is closed. If they care about their members, they should let people know ahead of time about their operation changes. 3. No promises and communications on when things will get back to normal. I highly demand the team share their progress on fixing any equipment issues that will impact members experience and practice. This includes timelines on fixing Trackman, the golf ball collector (I heard it needs attention but not 100% sure) and improving range itself. These information helps people make decisions and plan for practice. Also want to mention holiday week should not be an excuse because all other courses I went to did a great job. I still enjoyed playing the course during a weekend morning with their great view of LA city and recent improved course conditions. I also know their crew work really hard to accommodate a large number of players during busy days and hours. I appreciate all their help and support to keep this course running. Hopefully issues will be addressed properly and everything will return to normal. read more

Sad to read some of the bad reviews here. I did the players club membership when I lived in the area and found it very reasonable and the staff was always very accommodating. The course has mostly shorter holes with a few very fun par fours, amazing views of much of the LA area, and it gives you a great chance to practice your shorter game. In addition, the price is extremely reasonable, especially if you're a member of the players club, and especially if you walk the course (I've walked many later afternoon rounds for $5 while getting a free drink, of course, you have to pay the Players Club membership to get this deal). If you do walk, there are two pretty big hills (hole 5 and between holes 11 and 12). The back 9 is wonderfully scenic and has many challenging shots from one little plateau to another. Take the whiners reviews with a grain of salt -- those are the same people that keep showing up the next day so it should tell you how decent this place is. I actually mostly came on here to counter some of those reviews because this place is a great little haven in LA and I really enjoyed my time there. I almost don't want to tell you about it so it won't get too crowded!! ;) read more

If you don't have a membership of this golf course and want to play golf over weekends here, you must be very careful before your online booking. Unfortunately, they do not allow weekend bookings over the phone, but only online booking is available for weekends. While the booking process thru its online website forces you to create an account & SAVE your credit card information on the poor website, you may face bad karma from the moment. Once you save your credit card information, you will be NEVER allowed to delete your credit card information from the website even after you play golf there. I called a couple of times and explained what happened to resolve that issue over the phone, they could not solve the issue because they said they did not see my credit card information from their system as the website has been managed by a third party. I attempted to talk to an upper-level manager, but they kept saying they "DON'T KNOW When he would come." In addition to the credit card issue, when I was out for golf there, I asked the staff members from the pro shop where I could pick up the golf cart "three times", but they said we just gotta wait there, next to the proshop because someone would be with us. Around 15 minutes later, even after a lady who was behind of us already picked up her cart, I asked them desperately "where is our cart?". Finally, one of the members walked out of the building and drove one of the carts, which was parked behind the building, to us. The golf course has a decent "breathtaking" view of L.A. downtown. However, you must take on a "breathtaking" moment from such poor management as well. read more

Horrible experience. I purchased the players club membership online and cancelled the next day due to harassment from the guy at the front desk. He is rude, condescending, and in front of my partner and other customers, he starts yelling at me and mocking me. The next day when I go to the driving range, I ask why I can't purchase balls at 7:30 pm (last chance to buy balls is an hour before they close per the website) he tells me I can't buy range balls, and he follows me me out of the store and tells me to leave the premise because I chose to "not apologize" to him after he was extremely rude to me the day before. I emailed the manager and didn't hear from him the first time. Took two times for this to happen to get a email response from the manager. Good thing I was refunded. I've never experienced or even seen this type of behavior before in any setting, so very shocked and disappointed seeing how this facility has gone down hill. I am a local and used to visit Scholl Canyon and hit the driving range. Won't be going back after this experience. I hope they can get it together. read more

Just golfed at Scholl. Been a member for the better part of a year. We have enjoyed golfing at the earliest tee time since them. This morning we arrived and had sprinklers running on the entire first 10 holes and become so fraustrated that our experience was being ruined that we called the Pro Shop. They offered a rain check round so we accepted. We finished the rest of the holes because we woke up at 5:15 am to golf and weren't about to just pack up and leave. When I got to the pro shop and talked to a rude person named BRIAN, he gave me attitude and said we didn't get a rain check because we finished our round. I explained that we had to deal with sprinklers and sipping wet tee boxes the ENTIRE round. Brian was extremely rude and wouldn't budge. This guy doesn't belong at a pro shop talking to members like that. The right customer service move is to not even question a member who obviously been inconvenienced. There was never an apology and he didn't seem to think sprinklers running on the green while we are teeing off was a problem. Wow. Also there were so many range balls on the 3 holes surrounding the range that I couldn't find my ball twice. The nets have also broken on the driving range. Today I must end a relationship with a course that has had such a deep decline in customer service and quality of golf. My sentiments will also be shared on Golf Advisor in a moment. read more

Who knew there was such a nice gem of a course up on the top of the hill in Glendale. This course is beautiful and well maintained. I can't blame the course or its staff at all but the last time that I went up there, to the driving range to take advantage of our membership, it was so packed. I say that I can't blame the course or its staff because there jut happened to be a trillion people trying to get onto the course who didn't have reservations at all. There were 4-somes and some larger groups even that came up and kinda demanded carts and tee times but again, they didn't have reservations. So, without reservations, the course wasn't able to prepare for their arrival and they weren't able to let the golfers know that there would or would not be carts available or that there might be a lengthy wait. I saw so many people stop in at the club house and leave huffing and puffing because they didn't want to wait, didn't have tee time reservations, etc. I can see why the staff were so flustered and seem so run down. I was patient and took whatever spot I could get up there at the driving range. It was beautiful day. I didn't appreciate someone ridiculing me and my husband about our taking turns in trying to teach our lil one how to hit the ball. They told me that my behavior was dangerous and that I shouldn't have her there. I mean, how am I supposed to teach her if not at the driving range? I asked him, would you rather me teach her on the course? He scoffed at me and shook his head and said things under his breath. I asked other golfers around us if we were bothering them at all. Several of them said, "absolutely not." She wasn't yelling or screaming. She wasn't running around on to the driving range live ball area. She was not ill behaved at all. So, for that one guy to open his mouth to tell me that it was dangerous and inappropriate for me to try and instruct my lil one on how to hold the club and how to hit the ball, that was upsetting to say the least. And, as long as she wasn't bothering anyone else, I didn't see why we couldn't have her up there at all. We stopped into the snack area fo a bit. We were able to catch the last few minutes of one of the big NCAA games. It was so exciting. We chatted with the cook and ordered some fries and a drink. Everything was perfect. It's a bad experience and not fun. We know it's a par 3 course, but didn't expect there are many that is under 100 yards, I mean you're looking at about 65, 75, 80 yards. we had the rangefinder to measure every hole before we shoot. I'm not a long shooter and my wedge over shot the green. no fun. only a few hole that is par 4, but short 250 yarder. The grass is bad, it's just bad, dry and dying grass. The driving range? it's poor, just a long carpet covering the edge of the grass. Not many spots has the plastic tee for drivers. I don't understand why these course do not upgrade their driving range. the range can make more money than the actual course. If you want to play a par 3 course, I suggest you try the Monterey Park Golf. it's a much better course than this. read more

If you want a place with fresh air and great views of Los Angeles, not to mention some great golf and tennis, Scholl Canyon is a wonderful place to waste a day at. Hidden in the lovely hills above Eagle Rock and Glendale, Scholl Canyon is just north of the 134 off the Harvey Ave. exit and it is adjacent to the 2 Freeway just off the Holly exit. It's a scenic drive through a cute tree lined neighborhood then up the hills into the canyon. Once you make it to the top where the course is, you'll notice there are many tennis courts opposite of the golf range. So if you're not in the mood to practice your golf swing or if you slicing it everywhere, you can definitely work on your forehand. I don't think there is a wall there for solo tennis players but tennis is better played with a partner. Now to the golf: The practice facility is a grass range from Monday to Thursday. But on Thursday morning, the range does not open until noon. Friday to Sunday, synthetic grass mats are used. The range is quite big and I believe has over 45 tees, but this is a very popular place due to the views and the nice, cool canyon air. So in the evenings and weekends, the range gets really busy and you may have to wait. This is a lighted range and it closes quite late, 10pm to be exact. There is a great energy over at Scholl Canyon, it's a good mix of people. Last ball buckets are $6 for 75, $10 for 125, and $20 for 250. The course is always in good condition and it's a fun short course to play. There are no holes longer than 270 yards and there are plenty of short par 3's. Warning though, the course has a lot of elevation changes so it's best to take a cart. There are plenty of locals there and sometimes there are tournaments for the local golf, senior and junior clubs. So if you're going with buddies for a round, try to reserve a tee time by calling in advance. The prices are not bad, $22-$33 to play with a cart. The staff are pretty helpful and there's a nice, little food stand there for your post match meal. I usually bring people here to introduce them to the game. So before you go clubbing, bar hopping, take an hour to hit some balls at Scholl Canyon to get the night going with some fun. are you a newbie? do you wanna just hit around and not really learn how to golf? well, you're just in luck! this will absolutely be the right course! 20 bucks for 18 holes. 5 bucks for being a spectator. deals on golfnow.com and other sites were the same as the course so there was no use of booking in advance. this course is so horrible right now! why you ask?!? because currently hole #7 does not exist. it's completed closed. gone. the whole course is so ugly looking. the greens and fairways aren't even really filled with nice green grass. it has patches of light green to dead yellow grass. the greens is all off. its bumpy and rough. so if you're trying to aim at the flag pole. good luck! restroom smells. the view of LA is great! there's tons of rabbits and squirrels roaming around as well. the prices are cheap. the carts are in decent condition. driving range looks decent since i was standing so far away from it. there were probably more people on the range than on the course. there were snacks in the pro shop like chips and soda. i'm not quite sure of sandwiches and alcohol. you'll get bad phone reception/internet connection and this goes for both tmobile and verizon. no par 5. holes are really short. maybe after they fix it up then the course would be a good practice course for the newbies. right now, i would say pass! it'll mess up your whole game swag due to the conditions of this course. they should just close it down and do seeding! the one star rating goes to the view of LA. the course 2 thumbs down! read more

Wow what a great short course. One of the best I have played in LA. Canyon course with lots of elevation changes. 18 holes, with 6 short par 4's. Each of the par 4's I could almost reach with 3 wood. No need for driver. You pretty much have to use a cart here, because there are some climbs between the holes. Front 9 relatively flat, then you drive up a long steep path to hole 11 and the rest of the course is at a higher elevation. Good prices can be found on www.golfnow.com. BE CAREFUL! We signed up as members and after a couple months decided to cancel. The fact that they charge you an exit penalty of an additional month from when you cancel is not the issue here, the main thing is for months afterwards they kept on charging us! Despite the fact we showed them the email confirmation from them saying we canceled our membership. Shady people. They will try and lure you into a membership because they know they can make it a nightmare to leave. read more

Perfect course for beginner golfers, and golfers who aren't long hitters. Princess had a great time, and this course was the perfect level of difficulty for her game. Her round started a bit rough, but her perseverance was rewarded with some beautiful shots into some of the more picturesque greens on the back 9. Today was a hot day, but was playable with the breezes that filter through the hillsides here. Greens here were punched and sanded. They were literally unplayable, but it was nice to practice our approach shots. Play was reasonable fast at 3 hours for our round. Got startled by a snake on the 16th hole. read more

Came here on a Friday around 330pm and got the twilight price including cart which came out to $18 per person. The place wasn't packed so my buddy and I were able to play on our own without joining up with others. When the smog permits, you get a nice view of DTLA. If you look closely, you can also see the buildings on the West side of town, not to mention the Griffith Park Observatory mountain. On this day, there was a fire near DTLA, so we clearly saw all the white smoke coming from that vicinity. Be sure to bring a camera if you want, you can get some decent snap shots of the views. This is a shorter par 3 /4 course. You can easily drive many of the par 4 holes here from the blue tees. The front nine is fairly easy. Simple and straight holes. The back nine is when it gets interesting. You drive or walk up the mountain and get to the holes where you can easily lose some golf balls. Put away those pricey Pro V-1s and whip out some economy golf balls so you won't get so mad when you give the rattlesnakes something to play with in the deep brush. Overall, it's a nice course that sits on top of a mountain with awesome views of the city. It's ideal for beginners to intermediate players. If you want to practice your irons and/or short game, then Scholl Canyon is also good for that. My only gripe is the numerous divots on EVERY green left behind by careless and selfish golfers. I not only fixed my own divots but about 3-4 extra divots before I was able to putt. Doh. They also have a driving range and putting green. There are a few tennis courts available as well but they were taken up by youth classes when I was there. I believe there are many junior tournaments at Scholl Canyon, so you may want to look into that before being stuck behind all the kids on the course. read more
