In short, STAY CLEAR OF THIS DEALERSHIP. My wife and I brought our 2017 Subaru Forester in on May 15 after experiencing frequent shorts in the passenger airbag-- the light would indicate the passenger airbag had shut off. The manufacturer also called several times to encourage us to bring it in. The car was dropped off at Shortline early in the morning. In addition to the airbag issue, one of the tires clearly had a slow leak, as it would lose pressure ever couple weeks. These both seemed like simple issues that any reputable business could identify and fix within an afternoon. By 3 p.m., we hadn't heard back, so my wife called to get an update and was told she would receive a callback, which she eventually did...at 5:45 p.m. (business closes at 6 p.m.) The sales advisor, Chris Erickson, wasn't even aware why she was calling, and then informed her that they had been backed up, and the vehicle wouldn't be ready until sometime the following day. When she expressed disappointment that she now didn't have a vehicle to get to work, he said that she could arrange for a rental AFTER 10 a.m. the following day. The next afternoon, we both went to pick up the vehicle. This is when things really got frustrating. Mr. Erickson informed us that they ran a diagnostic, and couldn't find anything wrong with the airbag. He changed his story several times, stating that putting her laptop on the front passenger seat was likely causing the short (electronics). When I informed him that it was happening while we drove with a (human) passenger occupying the seat, he had me get in the vehicle and showed me that the light only goes off when a seatbelt is buckled--basically saying that maybe the passenger wasn't buckling their seatbelt. We basically went around in circles for the next few minutes, as I explained to him that this was a real problem and him coming up with flimsy, changing stories about how if there was an issue, it was something we were doing (he stuck with the argument that she should always put her laptop in the backseat). In addition to that, he claimed that there was no leak in the tire, whatsoever, yet after we left, we continued to have the same slow leak every couple weeks. Upon checking out, I calmly but firmly explained how disappointed we were with the service--lack of callback, nearly 36 hours, etc. He changed his story AGAIN, saying that it wasn't because they were backed up, but because diagnostics take a long time to run and they wanted to be sure there was no problem. The airbag problem returned within a few days. I'm writing this now because we just returned from the Subaru dealership on Arapahoe, where they confirmed that BOTH airbags had been disabled, meaning we've been driving since May without working airbags. Overall, it was a horrible experience. Find another dealership, because this location is disorganized and dishonest. read more

I took my car in for an appointment (a light on my dash was turning on intermittently) at 8:30am, hoping I'd be able to drop my car off, figure out what was going on, and get it back by the end of the day before working night shift and before making a decision to get it fixed or not. The man at the front desk kindly told me it should take about an hour to get an accurate diagnostic and we could go from there. He also said that he was sorry no loaner vehicles were available for me to borrow that day anyways. An hour or two wait was fine with me, but around 12:30 (4 hours later) after waiting in the waiting area with no update, I finally decided to see what was going on. I was told by a different person that my vehicle's general diagnosis showed another error code in addition to an airbag sensor malfunctioning, that these type of fixes can take a long time, but he was unable to give me a time or cost estimate for the repair. I told him that I actually need my car for tonight and would think about doing the repair at a later time, but he said he was unsure if they'd even be done with the diagnostic by then. He was really pushy about me agreeing to repair everything at that moment, even though it would likely take a few weeks and I had explained that I'd also be doing a road trip in a few days. Of course as soon as I finally got home (they were able to give me a loaner car after all... which was very nice but would have been great 4 hours ago) with zero cost estimate and zero time estimate of when they'd even be done with the diagnostics, I got a text with a $1000 cost estimate for "required" repairs. The cost for the repairs was more than my car is even worth, and it upset me that at the dealership I was being pushed in the direction of agreeing to fix everything before I even got an idea of what it would cost. What also bothered me about this experience was waiting 4 hours for a simple diagnostic, and finally leaving with no clear idea of when my car will be done. I made my appointment at 8:30 thinking I could leave my car there for the day because I work night shift (7pm-7am) and was hoping to sleep. Instead I wasted my entire day waiting to hear what was going on when I was told it would only take an hour or so. Positives: waiting room was great, very clean and quality snacks and beverages, and all the girls I talked with in the service department were very nice! read more

I agree with a lot of the reviews about the service department. I didn't have a very good experience with them myself. It's difficult to get a hold of them on the phone to begin with. At one point when I did to check availability for an oil change they told me to come on by before 5:30 pm. I drove across town and when I got there at 5:15 they turned me away. They didn't even acknowledge they screwed up. I won't be buying my next car there or come for service again. read more

We have owned Subaru's since 1983, and our latest, a 1997 is getting up in miles. We knew we wanted an Outback so I began an internet search. After getting low prices from many other dealers, I contacted Shortline. I knew they were a high volume dealer, so I thought they could beat the lowest price I had found so far. There were some missed emails, and a wrong cell phone # for Adam, a sales rep , (probably my fault), so I called a bit peeved. I asked to talk to a sales manager, and Rob got on the phone. I explained my concerns about their business practice, and he assured me that this was NOT the way they did business. I told him the lowest price offer I had received, and he said he would call me back with an offer. A short time later, he called and gave me a number I couldn't refuse! He asked if I was comfortable doing business with Adam, which I had no problem with. I told him I would come down on the weekend, test drive the car and probably buy it. That weekend, I called to make sure the car was still there, which it was, and we drove down to check it out. After the test drive, I asked that it be washed so I could see if there were any defects that I couldn't see. Adam was more than happy to oblige. Well, there was a small scratch on the bumper from being in a busy parking lot, and some minor things on the front dash. I said I would rather wait for another car like this to be shipped in so that it would be perfect. Tough living in a first world country! Adam said no problem, but it could be several months. He went and talked to Rob, who must have said there were 2 cars like this in the back, fresh off the truck. We walked back there and found one to our liking. It needed a bit of work, cleaning, setting up the electronic stuff, basically it hadn't been touched since rolling off the truck. Knowing it was going to be another hour before it was ready, we wanted to give it a quick drive before signing the papers. Adam was very patient, and the detailers, and set-up guy got to work. Finally the car was done. We took a quick drive and went in to sign the papers. Adam got things going and we had to "go upstairs" to finalize things. I expected to get some high pressure from the guy upstairs since I had received such a good price. Went up and met Keith who put us at ease. No high pressure, just sign here, dot that i, initial there and we were done! What a good experience! I do recommend Shortline Subaru. We love our Subaru! read more

We searched for a while to find the right dealership and sales person, and found both at Shortline Subaru. We found Shortline to be well lit and clean, with a professional staff. David Cardwell (a.k.a. "The British Guy"), responded to our online inquiries and helped us get a great deal on our Outback. Because of the specific set of options we wanted, it had to be ordered from the factory; David kept us in the loop regarding the car's build status and eventual delivery date. When it finally did arrive, he thoroughly explained the operation of the many controls and systems in the car before we left the lot - thus alleviating the need for me to obtain a pilot's license to operate the dashboard. Eric Addy, the finance manager that we worked with, was very helpful with selecting the appropriate warranty package that would best balance with the amount of driving that the car will see versus the amount of time on each warranty - important to me as I have a long commute. He's in the internet sales department, but I had the luck of stumbling on finding him when I showed up at the dealership for a test-drive without an appointment. David has an easygoing, down to earth nature that made the experience low-stress and enjoyable. He gave me the best price around and offered it upfront (I did A LOT of research), responded to my questions with lightning speed and worked really hard for me from start to finish including cleaning out my trade-in and being available to answer questions about my new car. And- It was truly a refreshing car-buying experience to have the sales manager Eric Addy also be such a genuine, friendly and helpful guy. This relates to the service department. I scheduled to take care of an air bag recall. The scheduler made an appointment for 10:30 and said the process takes an hour and a half. When I arrived, they explained the appointment is merely an appointment to check in and wait in line with everyone. There were cars backed up. They said it could be in for more than a day. I've purchased my last 4 Subaru Outbacks from Shortline Subaru, including purchases for my children. The sales representative has been one main person, Marvis Cobb. I call him marvelous Marvis, mainly because he is scrupulously honest & genuinely wants to do what is best for the customer. He doesn't seem to "need" a sale, although I'm sure he appreciates it when I keep coming back and asking for him. He is also very knowledgeable about the cars, especially comparing the multiple features of different models of the Subaru brand as well as other brands of automobiles. He knows a lot about cars and loves the cars he sells. It's his enthusiasm & genuine caring about the customer that makes me always ask for him. This last 2 weeks, I've been looking for a new Subaru to replace my 2010 Subaru Outback. I came to Shortline Subaru first & asked for Marvis. He explained the differences between The Forester & the Outback, plus all the different packages available. He told me that he considered me a loyal customer and promised me a below dealers invoice price on a new 2017 Subaru. We then took the Forester and the Outback for test drives. I did my due diligence on the internet and 3 other Subaru dealers. When I returned to purchase the vehicle about a week later, Marvis was on vacation and the sales manager directed me to another excellent salesman, Greg Kraft. The sales manager said that both Greg and Marvis would get credit for the sale. I'm very happy with my new Subaru and the excellent low price I paid for it. read more

Subaru dealerships in Colorado suck in general. There's a huge demand and hardly any supply, and Coloraodans buy Subarus like candy. As such, they aren't inclined to negotiate or be fair. Unfortunatley, Shortline Subaru is worse than it's competitors. The salesperson I worked with was a really nice guy, but he wanted to lease me a Crosstrek for $400-500/month plus tax. He told me that he "can't sell a car by e-mail" and declined to negotiate on price unless we did it in person, but to be "ready to put some money down." I'm a busy guy and I don't really care to spend hours-upon-hours at haggling at car dealership as the salesman ferries pieces of paper between me and the sales manager, just to be hounded later when I go to the F&I office to sign. Case in point, a fully loaded Subaru Crosstrek need not cost more than $350/month with zero down if you have horrible (Tier 4-5) credit. I have great credit, so I managed to lease a (MSRP) $31,000 Crosstrek for $285/month including tax at another dealership. That's more than $200/month cheaper than this dealership's offer. Crazy!!! My advice would be to go to a Subaru dealership in Colorado Springs, Loveland, Longmont, Greeley or Fort Collins. They'll be massively cheaper right off the bat than any Denver-area dealerships, especially this one - and even more so if you pit them against each other. read more

I needed a new car and found a listing online from Schomp. I went in expecting the usual approach, but they were actually low pressure and very easy to work with even though they were very busy. I was able to purchase a car I wanted at a decent price with an easy sale process and nice people - it makes a difference. DO NOT GO HERE. THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST BUYING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. We purchased a 2007 Subaru on January 26, 2019. Since then, the defrost stopped working (a terrifying thing for mountain winters), a headlight and taillight went out, all of the check lights came on because we needed an oil change/transmission fluids IN FEBRUARY (obviously they did NOT check the condition of the car prior to putting it on the lot), they promised a detail which we waited several hours for and never happened, the radio does not function when the heat is on, AND now, the transmission, yes ladies and gentlemen, THE TRANSMISSION is shot. Our mechanic is unable to find a replacement as they do not make them for this model as frequently. Our best hope is to pay 2 grand and ship one in from Wyoming. We are a young couple with one car and 4 kids. I would like to use strong language for what has happened to us but will keep it civil. We are screwed. This place will be reported. They knew they were screwing us and they still followed through. Oh, and we still owe 10,000 on it which we will not be able to afford after buying a new transmission, 5 months after purchasing this "pre owned" car. I am not sure why there is a response on Google to this review that a resolution was reached. We received a call by Schomp promising a new transmission for the vehicle. So, we brought it in. After a week in the shop, they told us the transmission did not need to be replaced. It was just a speed sensor. Within a month, we had to bring it back in with all of the same original transmission issues. Brought it back in a second time with the promise that the transmission would be replaced. Again, after a week in the shop, they did not replace the transmission. They said it was a bad clamp for a transmission hose. That's all they replaced. Within a week, all of the same issues are back. So, back to square one. We were sold a car with a bad transmission, low fluid levels and no defrost. We were under the impression that a "reputable" car dealership would not allow a car to be sold with these types of major issues. I will update this when the issue actually gets resolved as promised. read more

I made an appointment (2 week heads up) with Marcus Moore to test drive a 2017 Crosstrek Limited. I arrived on the day we set up for and was told they do not have any Crosstrek Limited to test drive- 1 was sold the day before and the other was getting upgrades put on. My issue with Marcus and Shortline is he did not even check before I arrived that a car was available only checked when I arrived. I know he can't control if a car is sold, however common courtesy should have been for him to contact me before our appointment so I wouldn't waste my time coming out and finding out the car I requested to test drive was not available. His lack of communication with me and not preparing ahead for my appointment has turned me off doing business with Shortline. I feel Marcus had no concern about wasting my time because he was so unprepared. Very unprofessional, which reflects on Shortline. read more

Shortline really knows how to take the joy out of buying a new car. After a test drive, I picked out a car and put a deposit on it while it was still in transit to the dealer because I liked the model and the colors. When the car came in, I agreed on a trade-in price for my vehicle and put extra cash down. You would think it would be easy. Greg Shevell, the salesman, was very helpful and knowledgeable. Even though I was expected to pick up the car that afternoon, the finance person, Samuel Hill, kept my husband and I waiting for over an hour. We told him that we didn't want any extras added on. Without mentioning it, he added a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty for $1875.00 to the paperwork. Also he put on a higher interest rate than Shoreline had advertised for the car. When I pointed that out, he didn't believe me and told me to go back to the salesman and get something in writing, which I did. The next day, when I noticed the added $1875.00, I contacted Sam Hill at Shortline. He said it was too late to take it off because the loan had gone in, and I would have to get it back from Subaru. That was a lie. I went back to Shortline and I met with a different finance person and signed new paperwork that was rewritten without the extra charge. The loan hadn't gone anywhere. Just when I thought it was over, I noticed that the dealer had put their version of a pinstripe on my new car! It was thick and uneven and looked like it had been put on with a marker! I was dreading having to deal with Shortline again, but I found a way to gently remove it without hurting the paint. read more

I had a recall notice on my Subaru and this was the closest dealership. The recall card said the repair should take two hours, when I called I was told two days. When I dropped my car off they were looking for someones lost keys. I should have left right then. They didn't have any loaners, so I was taken to Enterprise for a rental. When I returned for my car they had lost my key. A day later (this was day four without my car) they re-keyed it and I finally got my car back. I don't have any reason to believe that the repair was done properly. They are grossly incompetent and you should NEVER trust them with your car. read more

I am reviewing the service section of Shortline, not the dealership. I went in today to have my car serviced on my lunch break. The service consultant, John, was incredibly amiable, and even took some time out to give me the heads up on some new tires (very needed!). After reviewing what my car needed done he informed me that my wait time would be an hour and a half, which was fine. While I was waiting I actually had time to speak to my wife while I was waiting at Shortline, and she gave the a-ok to purchase the tires that John had quoted for me. Unfortunately, here is where things started to go south. After being told that my car would only take 20 more minutes (this after waiting an hour and ten) my car still wasn't finished 40 minutes later. I decided to go check and see how much longer I was looking at. When I got back there my initial rep was busy, so I asked the other consultant (Monique?) if she knew. What I got next was the most noxious blast of rudeness that I have perhaps ever received. Not only didn't she know, but after some frustrated histrionics she tossed a number off the top of her head. Now, I am unclear as to why Monique (?) felt the need to be incredibly rude to me when I asked for the status of my vehicle. As far as I know it's my right as a customer to ask for that information, especially when it is running behind the initial time stated. I wasn't upset, I just needed update as my job was wondering how long it was going to take. If she didn't know, or if it was unclear, she could have just said so. I didn't need to be treated to attitude followed by an incorrect estimate. I work servicing computers and systems. If I acted in a similar manner to a customer when they ask a simple query I could probably expect to have my rear end handed to me. And, if that sort of attitude is tolerated at that sort of business? Well, no thanks. Suffice to say, I'll get my new tires elsewhere. Again, this is just a review of the service station. Never bought a car here, but the idea of facing similar customer service in the high stress situation of buying a car from a place that tolerates that type of behavior is enough for me to say "pass." read more

Called and spoke with sales rep regarding a Nissan Murano. Told that the vehicle was available and set up a test drive for that afternoon. Drove 45 minutes to the dealership, spent an hour with the sales rep including test drive, agreed to the price and left a $500 deposit to hold the car until the next day. Left the dealership and drove 45 minutes home and as I walked in the door received a call telling me the car had already been sold. Two and a half hours wasted of my time for their poor communication issues. I spoke with the sales rep and he tried to steer me to cars costing significantly more -- bait and switch? All I got from him was, "sorry". So much for their one person, one hour promise! If they can't do better then I won't do business with them. read more

Three words - GO. TO. HEUBERGER!! My husband and I decided to buy our 2014 Subaru Outback (special edition, mind you) from Shortline simply because they gave us the best deal via emails back and forth between them and Heuberger. Heuberger warned us about Shortline and how they'll try to sell you the 'Rocky Mountain' warranty package as part of the negotiations. We knew that, if they refused to deliver on the price we agreed upon via email or if they tried any other tricks to get us to pay more than what we were intending on paying, we would just walk out the door. When we got there we were given to another car salesman as the one we made an appointment with wasn't available any longer (we waited until 1pm on a Saturday for this guy who wasn't even the one to help us). I will say that the one we ended up working with initially, Jonny Carrera, was a nice guy and he was helpful with explaining the many features of our car to us prior to our test drive. If we went through the entire car buying experience with Jonny, well, I don't think I would be writing this negative review. After we decided on buying the car, completed the application, then signed off on the credit checks, we were ushered UPSTAIRS to the Finance department. Folks, THIS is where the HARD SELL comes in. BEWARE! They will try to sell you Gap insurance through fear by stating 'you never know what could happen to you in the middle of winter'. They will try to sell you an extended warranty through fear stating 'your car is not the Subaru from the 80's or 90's. It has a lot of electronic elements that could, and will, break down.' They will try to sell you a Clear Bra. Now, my husband and I agreed to buying this bra as we knew we would have this car for years to come and wanted to protect it from rock chips. Little did we know that the Clear Bra we were expecting, and had agreed to pay hundreds of dollars for, was only covering the front part of the hood. When I spoke with the Director of Finance, Lisa Sutton, about this, she raised her voice at me, spoke over me throughout the entire conversation, and laughed at me towards the end of the call. This was, without a doubt, the most disrespectful person I've ever had to deal with and what makes it worse is that my husband and I bought the most expensive car at their dealership!! Sutton did eventually agree that 'her guy' was wrong to leave out the full disclosure of what we were paying for and that she will 'talk to him about that.' I did get a FULL REFUND on the bra in the end but would have rather not had to deal with this woman at all. Again - GO. TO. HEUBERGER! You may pay a few hundred dollars more for your Subaru but not having to deal with the Finance department at Shortline is well worth it. read more

If there was a way I could give zero stars I would. I've never been so disrespected and insulted while trying to buy a car before. This was my 11th car buying experience, 4 of my own and the rest helping out a friend who's never bought a car before. This was one of those times where I was helping out a friend. We found a car we could work with despite not being the trim level we wanted, so the price was higher than anticipated. We offered up our rock bottom price first, as everyone does, to which I knew wasn't going to work and I wanted to see how they could work with it and give me a counter offer, but the GSM wrote an extremely rude comment to the sales rep to give to us that that wasn't going to work and insulted our intelligence. He said, "That's an insult of an offer. Is this your first time buying a car?" Maybe it's YOUR first time selling a car. You asked us what we're comfortable with, we gave it to you and then you refused in the most rude way possible. If you don't like the offer then calmly refuse and offer your own. Don't send a written note through your sales rep insulting us and disrespecting our budget. If he has something to say he could've come up to us and said it himself, instead of hiding in his office letting his sales rep do the talking. After negotiating a couple more times the GSM wrote a final offer with an even more infuriating comment essentially saying we're being way to cheap and unintelligent. That was the last straw and had the final negotiating price in writing and decided to leave. The sales rep promises us that we could go to 5 other dealerships and we won't find a better deal. We paid $1,500 MORE just to buy our car with another Subaru dealer (Mike Shaw Subaru in Thornton). Chris Violante and his manager were totally shady and unethical in how they do business. Showed up to purchase our car ordered six weeks ago. Delay after delay and we come to find out why 30 minutes into the deal when they drop that the brand new car had major hail damage and had to be repaired. Um, what? No worries, they tell us, because the repairs won't show up on Carfax if we sell the car to someone else. Oh, and there's no negotiation on the price. So you think we're liars and fools? Nah, Shortline, that's you. And anyone else unwise enough to buy a car with you. Consider this your warning and take your business elsewhere. read more

The salesperson I dealt with was great. No B.S., the deal was done and I was on my way. The low rating however is from their $499.99 "Delivery and Handling" tax...err.. fee. I was advised the $500 was for car prep, and paperwork. I seem to remember being told the car is prepped when it arrives in the country. As for the paperwork, they shuffle that to you. About 7 weeks after purchasing the car I was sent paperwork to do the title-work. I received a check to pay the city tax, a title/registration application, a certificate of origin, and a bill of sale. I don't understand why I paid $500 to have all of the paperwork shuffled to me at the last minute. Worse, now I have to take time out of my day to do the paperwork I already paid to be done! This is why this dealership is not getting 4 or 5 stars. The sneaky fees. It shouldn't cost $500 to wash the car and leave it sitting outside the showroom floor for me to pick it up. read more

Terrible service, overcharged us and inefficient sale. The entire experience was terrible. Didn't have car there even though we scheduled appt, promised a full inspection since the car just came in, didn't provide the inspection after making a deposit, sales manager rude, paperwork for sale not ready even though we had another appt, then to top it all off, they overcharged our credit card and included the deposit amount again after having charged us 3 days earlier.
