Great fast service, friendly staff and delicious food. Big portions. The restaurant was fully booked but i was lucky to get a table someone cancelled last minute. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles, the chicken was still very hot but very tasty, i could have added a side salad or fries too but next time.
After hearing about School for YEARS, I was finally able to come here yesterday. We made reservations before coming, so we didn't need to wait long for a table. I wanted to try their chicken & waffles as it's always been noted as a staple on their menu. However, I saw their hasbrown poutine and could not resist! It is SO GOOD. The flavours remind me of a homey Thanksgiving meal. I would get this again hands down. Definitely recommend! The only reason I'm giving it 4/5 stars is because their menu is quite pricey.
I recently visited this restaurant and while it was a great place to catch up with friends, there were a few things that left me wanting more. The decor inside was interesting - a wall full of clocks set to a specific time (if I remember right, I think it was 3 o'clock?). Anyhow, the tables were set apart far enough that you could comfortably sit and have a conversation without anyone eavesdropping. it was the weekend so we were able to get an item only exclusively available on the weekend. We got the Black n' Blue Flapjacks - basically a stack of pancakes with black and blueberry sauce, maple syrup, brown sugar butter and whip cream. It was crispy on the outside and paired with the fruit, maple syrup and brown sugar butter, was sweet and hit the right spot. It was a bit thin and not as fluffy as compared to Japanese-style pancakes, but still delicious. We also got the Golden Hashbrown Poutine with an extra side of Fried Chicken (3 pieces) - this was the star of the show. The poutine was cheesy and with the fried chicken, gave it that extra kick of protein and saltiness that it needed. I would highly recommend getting this! One downside was that I was seated 20 minutes later than my reservation time, which was a bit disappointing. Even though we were seated late, it felt like we were being "hovered on" - staff were clearly in a rush to clear out tables and we were hurried out towards the end. Overall, the food was solid but it doesn't quite live up to the hype. Perhaps a better time to go would be in an off-hour on the weekends or on a weekday.
Blueberry flapjack pancakes were a delight and loaded with blueberries that won't leave your taste buds. We got the classic chicken and waffles. Loved the sweet and spicy seasoning on chicken which was juicy and tender but did find bit over salty . Also in house sweet/spicy sauce Reason for 4 star rating because we waited for over 30 minutes to serve food . Service wasn't up to the bar compare to food which we highly recommend. Food was delicious. Service was very good we were a bit indecisive when ordering server was patient and kind throughout the process offering suggestions and questions to clarify. Portions are large in my opinion got two plates to share and we were both full. Chicken was well seasoned and crispy. If you aren't a fan of sweets I would go with something other than the French toast as it's fairly sweet but not over powering
Stopped by during a trip to Toronto. The service was great and food came out in a timely manner. I had an iced vanilla latte, which was good and did not water down quickly so the flavor was strong (if you are an iced coffee drinker you know). The biscuits were good and had a little kick to them. The chicken and waffles were decent. I was disappointed, however, because while the coating of the chicken had a lot of seasoning, the chicken itself did not have any.
I was very lucky that my friends decided to brave the 30 minute line up before I arrived. The long weekend brunch line has always been a deterrent. Once inside however it was quite cozy with a cute aesthetic. Everything felt classic about this place - including Everybody Love Raymond playing on a TV. Music was loud enough to share Saturday night debauchery amongst friends. I shared the Synonym French Toast with my friend. The actual French Toast was not my favourite, but the toppings were good. The toast was a little too doe-y for me. I also had the hot chocolate - which was delicious :) Servers were really kind. This is not somewhere I'd wait outside for 30 minutes in winter for, but the rest of the year, for sure!
Let's start with the good stuff... Creativity (5/5): they serve you juice in lab beakers, that should tell you enough. Service (4/5): efficient, and the waitress kindly told me not to eat the apple on the table. And end with the not so good stuff... Food (2.5): was very underwhelmed, the chicken and waffles were small and too plain (you can get a more delicious and substantial serving from Cluck Clucks for $10 less). The Synonym Toast was pretty good, though a bit dry in the centre. The drinks we tried (Mango Tangerine and Peach Mint Lemonade) were average. Also be prepared to wait for a good 15+ minutes to be seated (more on weekends).
Finally trying for years to get a seat here, finally made it waited 1 min to get a seat. Be prepared for long line ups for brunch on the weekend. Once inside there's a very small space to line up, the space is open that the kitchen is visible. You can see them cooking right there. The interior is filled with various school related statement pieces like books as lamp shades, apples on each table, letters etc. The menu was one page, you get option for savoury and Sweet. We opted to try crispy French Toast & Golden Hashbrown Poutine. The crispy French Toast was delicious, the peach and raspberry compote is what makes this extra delicious. For sweet lovers. The Hashbrown poutine on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment, the flavours were bland, the consistency of the mashed potatoes with runny eggs wasn't for me unfortunately. The vanilla and maple latte were delicious! The service was great, we were in and out within an hour.
This is a super cute school themed restaurant (as is the name) but they've gone above and beyond with the decor! My boyfriend's mango juice thing was served in a glass beaker. How cute is that?? The spinach dip was bomb, my boyfriend's savory French toast was really good, and my chicken and waffles were super tasty especially with the brown sugar butter and maple syrup they came with! The server was really nice and friendly too.
Love going to school (no pun intended) for brunch with my girlfriends just to catch up and talk about boys. I always come here for their chicken and waffles and their blueberry pancakes is a must order. Their chicken and waffles come piping hot and the chicken is surprisingly juicy and you can tell the waffles are made fresh to order. Definitely a big fan of their blueberry pancakes. It's fluffy, light, and delicate all at the same time. The blueberry compote is not too sweet itself, but you can always add syrup for a bit of that sweetness to complete the meal. Always a line up on weekends, but wait times can vary 15-30 minutes.

We went to try the buttermilk fried chicken & waffle and black n' blue flapjacks, and both were great! The fried chicken was well prepared and tasted delicious with the syrup. The pancakes were fluffy and tasted delicious with blue berries and syrup. We are overall happy and would come visit again! read more

The brunch in this place is superpopular and when I tried it I could finally understand why!! Unreal portions (I normally finish everything on my plate but I had to put extra effort on this one) and honestly the mix of flavors was amazing. I ordered the Super Cheesy Bacon French Toast (tons of melted cheddar-jack, maply syrup, a light mix of greens). This brunch was heaven. A message for all cheese lovers: ORDER THIS!!! Important to mention that the timing of my brunch here was beyond terrible: there were dozens of wasps flying around (end of summer) and the planes from the CNE show were flying directly over us on that day. But even while surrounded by wasps and unbearable noises the food wowed me hard, and the service did their very best to make sure we were comfortable and OK during the meal. I honestly can't wait to come back and enjoy that brunch again - just on a quieter day next time! read more
Ah the hype of this place! It's really good but it's super pricey! If you're trying to impress a date or parents that you're doing well off, really well off. It was really expensive, our bill was $54 with coffee. It was good, everything was fresh but the prices were a bit steep for food that can be prepared at home. The juice is highly recommended and it is very fresh with not a lot of sugar added. read more

Liberty Village is a very nice neighbourhood, particularly on a warm, sunny day. School had the perfect atmosphere for a lazy brunch. Out of the two dishes, my favourite was undoubtedly the spiced benni on cheddar chive biscuit with back bacon, chipotle hollandaise and home fries. The chipotle hollandaise was simply divine! The chipotle really gave the sauce a great kick. As well, the eggs were nicely poached and perfectly runny inside. The only thing I wasn't crazy about were the home fries, which were rather chunky and dry. I also enjoyed my super cheesy French toast with double smoked bacon, maple syrup and greens. I loved the combination of the savoury cheese and maple syrup, which made the French toast all the more decadent. The refreshing side salad was much needed to counterbalance all that fatty richness. For dessert, we got a chewy chocolate chip cookie to go, which was super chocolatey but not that chewy. I couldn't eat this without getting chocolate stains all over my hands. I wished that the cookie was more chewy and less chocolatey. But all in all, it was an enjoyable, coma-inducing brunch. read more

Okay, I'm SO happy I came here for brunch last weekend. To begin, the wait time is horrible! We had to wait around 1-2 hours, but we didn't mind. It's better to go check-in with them after 30-45 minutes though, just incase there is space. Our waitress was super kind, even though the service was a bit slow, she was helpful and checked up on us here and there. I wasn't super picky on how often she came to check up on us and what not, because the restaurant was crazy packed!! I was surprised our waitress was even coming around checking up on people the amount of times she did. For drinks, I got the blood orange mimosa, which was so good! My boyfriend got the maple latte and apparently that was really good. For food, I got the apple crumble pancakes and let me tell you this.. out of my 23 years, these are the BEST pancakes I have ever tried in my life (sorry mom, yours is still amazing though)!! The pancakes were so fluffy and much bigger than regular pancakes you'd get at brunch spots. Definitely worth the money. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and WOW, it was SO good! I never had chicken and waffles that good before. We also got pan-fried hashbrowns with jalapeño sour cream. Again, it was the best hashbrowns I have ever had!! When you walk into School, you immediately feel a cool vibe from the trendy decor and laid back atmosphere. The clocks on the wall and an apple on each table are a great touch. I was particularly hungry on a Friday at lunch, needing the extra energy and a pick-me-up to get through the rest of the work day. I ordered a mimosa-type drink where I was able to select the type of juice to accompany the prosecco. I opted for the raspberry blueberry juice and was not disappointed. I wish I ordered 5, but had to get back to work. The chicken and waffles were very filling, but nothing special. The chicken was juicy inside and crispy on the outside, but was bland. The syrup tasted like a sweeter and spicier version of sweet and sour sauce - I didn't particularly like the combination with the waffle. The maple butter was by far the best thing on my plate. This is a good spot to eat if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again. read more

Great brunch place in Toronto! They don't offer a big menu, however, food was delicious, nicely presented, generous portion, reasonably priced and service is great! We shared these 2 dishes and they are just perfect amount for 3 adults! Will definitely be back when I can visit Toronto again. If you are in the area, you should come check this place out! read more
Summary: Horrible wait time, many ridiculous rules, a bit pricy, the food does not worth the wait Place: 4/5 (has nice patio, good environment) Food: 3/5 (good, but does not worth the wait, and does not worth the price) Wait time: 2 hours for us. 1 hour in line and 1 hour from sitting and getting our food Service: 2/5 (friendly service, but ridiculous rules) Price: over 20 per person We got a large group here. About 7 of us. We came around 11 am on a weekend, it took us 1 hour in line and 1 hour to get our food. The wait time is ridiculous and the place got interesting rules as well. We got 7 people and apparently we could not take table with more than 6 people. Then what do we suppose to do? We still sit at same table, but we got 2 waiters serve us separately. One our us made the comment "it is like a German school". I ordered the famous Fried Chicken waffles. The Friend Chicken was good, but the waffles is just OK. The dish took us 20 minutes to finish because we were so hungry. Some of us ordered French toast, which was way too sweet. This is a popular spot. I would probably not come back, since it requires some travel for me. Not recommend. Recommend if you are in the neighbourhood and the wait time is short. read more
I went back to school, after graduating 8 years ago. this visit to school was quite possibly the best school experience ever. im pretty sure my girlfriend and I were the second or the third couple to come into this establishment on the sunday we came to visit. we came about 30 minutes before the doors opened, and much to the crowds surprise, a school bell rung as they opened up for the day,we were told that we had our pick of wherever to sit down, so we went to the far back room to try and be in a quiet section away from the Kitchen and everyone coming in. much to my surprise, an apple was placed down on our table, red delicious is absolutely my favorite of all time. our waitress was over and gave us a run down of the restaurant, popular items and helped us out with questions. when I say that we ordered a ton of food, we ordered a ton of food, I went with the pancakes with an order of the poutine, and a side of smoked salmon. all of our food came in one serving, which is impressive to say the least, but also made me go "which dish am I trying first" the pancakes were amazing, as they came Stacked High w/ Black + Blueberry Sauce, Vanilla Honey Holiday Butter, Real Whipped Cream + Pure Maple Syrup in a shot glass to the side. I didn't need any of the syrup but I did do a video of me taking the syrup and drinking it as if it was a shot. a very good meal, the poutine was just "good" next time I have this I would like to have it without the egg on top, as I felt that the egg didn't do anything to the meal at all (I hate runny eggs) but the Pan-Fried Hashbrowns, Braised Leeks, Cheese Curds, Rosemary Mushroom Gravy, Tomato Chutney were absolutely great...without the egg! the smoked salmon was good, a tiny bit pricy but really good and fresh. the atmosphere by the time we left was pretty loud, what with people bringing kids, general laughter at stuff on the projectors (new kids on the block/saved by the bell and cartoons) and almost no walking room *fluffy problems* just before we left, I had to visit the bathroom and was laughing pretty hard at the hopscotch design on the floor, that brought me a good laugh. our server was awesome even though her name escapes me. transit options are the 504 king streetcar with a bit of a walk, alternatives are the 29 Dufferin & 63 with a bit of a longer walk. parking options are on the street or some pay for parking lots in the village area would go out of my way to come back, for sure!!! cant wait to come back and take another class! read more

SO. GOOD. My friends and I came for what are supposedly some of the best pancakes in Toronto and we're not disappointed. Generous portions made a very filling meal and we left not just full but satisfied with all the deliciousness. read more

I must say, the all over branding of the ``school`` idea is done so well. Everything from the apple on each table, the cushions upholstered with chalkboard writing to the bill coming in a small manila envelope really solidifies the grammar school feel. Other than those touches of chalk board white, the place is decorated in black. This did take me a bit by surprise. I kinda thought it would be more in the shade of the old school desk like they have as their host station. I did not get a chance try their brunch which is available seven days a week (weee!!!). I tried their baked goods and coffee. All of it had this wonderful home baked taste. Moist and flavourful. Highly recommend the pumpkin spiced whoopie pie and giant chocolate chip cookie. The cheddar chive scone was a nice savory addition to my sweet kick. The chives made me crazy some mashed potatoes and gravy. They use Illy coffee which is already a plus in their favour. A good cup of Joe. I recommend this venue for their baked goods and coffee. I can't give you a full idea on how their brunch or dinner menu ranks but I can say it is promising. If what I have tried so far is any indication of how the rest of the things they make are, I cannot wait!! PS...They have free wi-fi!! read more
About 3 years ago, I went there and left with a great impression and wanted to go back for their hash browns. So I did and left disappointed and it was certainly not worth it. Happy: service was good. I had the waffle and chicken entree. The chicken was hot and came with a nice dipping sauce. Not happy: waffle wasn't crispy. Nothing special about it. The coleslaw of red cabbage and carrot was not fresh as it had a certain sourness to it. My partner had the French toast and at the end he said it was mediocre. Just a piece of thick toast for like $15. Verdict: Too expensive for an entree dish. Wished I had the lunch menu. Definitely not worth the money. Won't be back unless someone is treating me. Some fruits would have been nice since it was a brunch menu. read more

Yes recommend! We ordered the blue black flapjacks and the chicken waffles. The portion is quite large, I barely finish so worth the while. The pancakes are so good, not too too sweet. I think it's choice for sweet tooth and very fruity. Would rate the pancake better than many other brunch place (cough cough M's temple) The brown sugar butter is interesting, lightly sweetened though I would hope for it to be salty. Fried chicken tasted amazing, flavoured and just right amount of salty + sweet with the sauce. A little meh about the waffle. The coffee seems a little pricey so skipped out on that. Decoration of the restaurant made it seem like a garage turned into a dining room. Overall it was a great brunch! read more
Every one remembers that feeling when the school bell was about to ring, when you get to School early enough, there's a cute bell that's rung to start off the day. I would suggest getting there early on weekends, there can be a line. If it's a nice day, I would suggest the patio - hella cute! I've been here twice and both times the food and service were good. You can't come here without ordering the Black n Blue Flapjacks - Hella insta worthy and pretty damn delicious! Stacked Pancakes topped with Blueberry sauce, brown sugar butter and maple syrup! If you still have a sweet tooth after that, then try the Chocolate Croissant French Toast - really good but very sweet, w/ Caramelized Bananas, Toasted Coconut, Warm Nutella, Vanilla Whip + Fresh Mint. Fun Brunch spot! Heard of this spot from a friend so being brunch fans we had to try. Fun and cute decor. As we arrived, we immediately saw 4-5 staff but no one acknowledged us for a good 3-4 mins while staff just seems to casually work at their own pace. Front host guy that finally greeted us didn't seem to like or enjoy his job. Our actual waiter was more pleasant luckily. Apparently it was wasp season as we were swarmed with them constantly at our table and they gave everyone a electric racket to deal with the wasp on your own. We ordered a bunch of items and the most disappointing was the avocado toast as I love Avocado toast. It was just overly peppered and bread was a bit soggy and just alot going on in the taste. Didn't have that fresh factor. Overall was decent experience, Though we didn't get the best experience, I would go back but maybe not during Wasp season and hopefully the host will be in a better mood. 3.5 read more

Loved the vibe in here! Only downfall is that they don't take reservations but if your a small party, sitting on the bar isn't too bad and mingling with the Bartender is a plus. Super cute brunch spot and loved the Pancakes!! I feel like you can never go wrong with any choosing of the selections of pancakes they offer. read more
This place always has a wait, even on holidays! So when you go, prepare for a wait and it will be worth it. Generally goes quick! Ambiance is awesome and super fun! Brunch menu has a wide variety but items will not disappoint! Everything is good! Staff overall is super friendly, not overly attentive as they are always busy, but you'll get what you need. My friend took me here and the first impression was a little weird. We had a reservation but they seated us first in an area that smelled like restroom. They kindly reseated us in another area which solved the problem. The interior is decorated like a school and even the tables had an apple prop. We didn't want to order heavily so we did a half kale salad and the Krispy krunchy french toast. The salad wasnt impressive but I think the french toast was one of the best I've tried. It seriously was crispy and not overly sweet. The maple butter really brought the dish together! read more
So we weren't even supposed to come here for brunch, we had planned to go to Mildred's just a couple blocks over. When we arrived though on Saturday morning at 11:45am, they said the wait would be 1hour and 40 mins. RIDICULOUS. And keep in mind its December 30th, -20 degrees, with only waiting room outdoors... no thanks. Because of this, we walked over to School (it was our Plan B) and put our names down there. Thankfully, the wait was estimated for only 30 - 45 mins. Still a long time but way more reasonable than the Mildred's. We were browsing the menu while we were waiting so we sort of had an idea of what we wanted, keep in mind while they serve brunch, none of the other lunch menu items are available. Only brunch items can be ordered. So we got the famous black n blue pancakes and the hashbrown poutine. PANCAKES ARE A M A Z I N G. Just order them and you won't be disappointed. Maple butter, blackberry and blueberry sauce, whipped cream, maple syrup, all with soft buttermilk pancakes. The portion was also really generous and well worth the $17 price tag. I feel like any of their pancake dishes you can't go wrong with. They had an apple crumble pancake as well as a cap'n crunch french toast that also sounded great. The service was also very good. Even though there was a line waiting for tables, at no point did we feel rushed or pressured to leave. It was a great environment to catch up with friends and enjoy some excellent brunch. PRO TIP: If you ever go to School and you're waiting in line, take a look at the plates coming out of the kitchen to get an idea of what to order.. The popular dishes will be very apparent. read more
Really yummy food. You can't go wrong here no matter what you order. I recommend coming with the anticipation of a wait, but you can remedy that by putting down your phone number and starting with a coffee elsewhere. It's in a nice suburb so good for a short walk. The super cheesy French toast is pretty damn good. I don't want to know how many calories are in it lol the chef told me that was his favorite dish, so I guess I recommend starting with that one and moving your way through the brunch list on subsequent visits as you most definitely will return! read more

Came here on a Sunday at 10:15am for a table of 2, they estimated 30-45mins. I walked over to balzac (1block away) to grab a coffee and at 11:15 was texted that my table was rdy. It took me 8minutes to walk back but if you aren't back within 5mins they give your table away even though I replied I was on my way. Nonetheless they put you top of the queue and I waited 10 more mins; not that bad. The goods: - Cinnamon Pecan Pancakes are amazing! It was a bit dense so I couldnt finish it all but the flavours all together worked really well. -Bacon Super Cheesy French toast are to DIE for. I killed it all w.o even realizing. Delish! -Their bacon caesars are so tasty too, definitely recommend. My friend and I gave each other half of our dish (family style) so the sweet pancakes with savory french toast + tasty refreshing caesar was the perfect brunch combo. Parking was easy, huge GreenP across. My only issue is that if it's in the fall or winter they should allocated more than 5minutes to walk back because they can't expect people to wait 45-1hr close by outside in the cold. Other than that service was amazing. I enjoyed my time here and would come back a few more times to try other items on the menu. read more
3.5 stars. A good option for brunch. It is a bit on the pricier side ($21 for chicken and waffles) but the bonus and what they have going for them is that it seats a lot more than some of the other brunch places so there's typically less of a wait. Their chicken and waffles are pretty good, and their regular breakfast "The Safe Bet" is a good option. Their baked goods like their scones are delicious as well. read more

I went having really high expectations from what I heard from friends. Environment: I love it. They decorate it like a school with a bookshelf and an apple on each table. They serve their drinks in flasks. They have outdoor seating as well. Service: quick service. Awesome servers. Super friendly. Food: Was a little disappointed to be honest. I got the chicken and waffles. Chicken was crispy but really dry and it didn't have much flavour. The hot honey syrup was good though. And so were the waffles. Friend got the flapjacks. Big portion and it felt really heavy because the fruits that came with were really sweet and there was syrup on top of that. If you don't have a sweet tooth it's not for you. Another friend got the millennial toast. It had chickpeas and avocado on it. You definitely taste more chickpeas than avocado. There's curry flavour to it and I would have to say that was my fav out of the 3. We also got a flask of sangria. It tasted like cheap boxed wine. Nothing too great. Price: really pricey. Went on a random Monday around noon and there was no line up. If you work or live close by, this place is a nice brunch spot. It is more pricey than usual brunch places though. I had the cheesy french toast ($19) that had melted cheese on top, salad and a cute little beaker of maple syrup to pour over the french toast. Yum! French toast was thick and cheese was nicely melted. I saw blueberry pancakes being carried out from the kitchen, which also looked really good. It is a very busy spot so even at noon on a Monday, the restaurant was mostly filled. Chatter is louder than the music so this place is ideal more for casual lunches/brunches. Customer service is nice if understandably busy. My server did ask if I was allergic to anything (a nice touch) and they checked on me twice with refills of water. At the end of my meal, when I was looking to pay but could not find my server to flag down..one of the staff nearby noticed and helped me out too. In the end, I was happy with my experience. I would definitely go back if I wanted to splurge as menu is at a higher price point than what I would usually go for. read more
If school was this good, I probably would've went to more classes. One of many brunch options in Liberty Village, this place is dressed like a school with lockers and coat hooks that will bring you right back to your school days. The food is your classic brunch options, but they do their own spin on classics like French toast and pancakes. My friend and I got the savoury French toast and the fried chicken and waffles. Both of these were rich but very satisfying. They've got plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so make the most of the nice summer weather and take a seat on the patio. read more

Cute atmosphere that has little items that truly tie in the "school" theme. Definitely give this place a try if you are looking for insta-worthy food pics. I went with a group on a work day for lunch and we were able to be seated right away. The place is small so if you are going at a peak time (eg. the weekend), make sure to make a reservation or arrive early. The food items we ordered was the chicken n waffles, the blue n black flapjacks and the cheddar n bacon French toast. The chicken n waffles was moist for white chicken and flavourful. However, the waffle was nothing special. The cheddar n bacon French toast is something special that takes you on a different road than your typical French toast. It isn't sweet so just enjoy the savoury side of French toast. What's nice about this dish is that it comes with a side salad that helps cut the fatty side of the French toast. The blue n black flapjacks are definitely worth the insta pic, however, this dish get very sugary after the second pancake. The service was amazing, with our server always coming around for coffee top ups (big plus) and always answering our questions. read more

The brunch here is very popular, in a very hipster environment, so you are fore warned! Here is also another warning, if you don't arrive by 10 am or earlier, get ready to wait anywhere from 1 hour to 1.5 hours. The wait for this place is borderline ridiculous. After we were finally seated, the servers are very friendly and the food was very good. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Croissant and it was simply delicious!!! At about $18 for a croissant, they were very generous with the amount of smoked salmon. I would recommend this place only if you did not have to wait. Would I wait another hour and a half to eat here again? Probably not. read more
