I went in to the schools first federal credit union in placerville a week ago. I was stuck in a rut issues with my car. I've banked with schools for 2 years now. I had a personal loan with loan agency the last year and the interest was ridiculous. I became a SchoolsFirst member a few years ago when I was about 16 years old. My experiences have been mostly positive but have lately been odd; 1. I was flagged by the fraud department as a minor for having a log in detected on my account from a family members phone. The lady who helped my mother and I at the bank to clear this issue was very suspicious of me as I had a large amount of money from the passing of my father. 2. In November 2023 (now as an adult) I took my Indian husband with me into the bank. I went to take out a semi large amount (couple thousand) and was questioned non stop. Two women who work there where involved (one being the same as I spoke about above). They wanted to know why I wanted the money and where it was going. We were both continuously pressed about the withdrawal to the point of discomfort! The woman working there then told me she wanted to check that I wasn't "being made to do this". I appreciate the concern but this was very uncomfortable. Not suggesting it was personal but I am unsure. 3. I was restricted from making any eDeposits by the fraud department for unknown reasons as of December 2023. This is related to the above (2nd) issue according to the fraud department themselves. Placerville branch has been absolutely wonderful. My first experience was a auto loan through a dealership which was quick and easy. Went into the branch to set up auto payments for the loan, quick and easy. Staff are very welcoming and promptly set up my auto payment. On line access is very easy to use, you can use the chat function easily and obtain accurate information. As an retired banker I highly recommend. read more

I don't often do this but since the merger with schools first credit union is happening and ABSOLUTELY NO PHONE LINES OR ONLINE BANKING WORK, I'm going to put your whole company on blast here. Not only can I not activate anything or even find out my account balance, you didn't send me all of my cards and now I can't use one of my accounts, oh but God forbid I be able to find out which one that is because I can't even check my new account numbers. Oh here's the kicker, I can't even activate my new cards that I do have so I have NO ACCESS TO MY MONEY. this one is going to take you guys a long time to recover from and when I can actually get my money from you I am seriously considering a different credit union to take my business to. You have had over a year to make this merger happen efficienctly and utterly failed. Get your house in order. read more

We have been with Schools since the 80's in Placerville. There is absolutely NOTHING that has improved with the recent merger. The lines are longer, the wait on the phone is longer and worst of all is the platform they are using for the website banking. There are times it takes 10 minutes to just come up on my screen if I can get on at all. I WANT THE OLD CREDIT UNION BACK!!!! It may have helped them to get more money, but it did the customers NO GOOD! read more

Low auto loan rates, mortgage rates, and 7% interest on the first 500 dollars in your savings. My rating is based solely off this branch as a CU Service Center. My CU is based in Southern California, with the closest branch 409 miles from where I live. This works fine for me as I typically only need cash from another bank account. But on rate occasions, I need a large amount if cash. This week we were buying our youngest child a car from a private party and needed a large amount if cash. In the past I have used Safe CU and Patelco, but Schools was on the way. First I noticed all the fees posted for CU Service Center transactions. Fees are normal, but do many signs was unfriendly. Then, I am told I can only withdraw $500! What?! The teller went and confirmed with the manager - yep, only $500 allowed. Schools should remove itself from the CU Service Center network. They clearly are not an eager partner, and are a total waste of time for those who appreciate the collaboration if REAL service center partners. read more

I never really had problems here other than occasional waiting. However, I'm done with this place... I've banked with them for over 15 Yrs. They aren't evolving enough for me. I'm no technology guru, but the simple things, that there competitors have working just fine, schools can't seem to match. The app has major glitches: mobile checking doesn't work and most recently, I discovered that an online payment that I CANCELLED actually did not cancel. Furthermore, my card has stopped working although it's hardly used and the ATM I recently used to deposit a check (since mobile check doesn't work) did not work either. Lastly, their locations are very inconvenient... They aren't expanding either I'm pretty sure they are clinging to the business they still have. The merger transition has been a disaster. I never received the introductory packet which supposedly contained my access number and other important information, and believe me I searched everywhere for it! I am in the midst of doing a refinance and home repairs and can't access my transactions that occurred before Nov. 1. I've been a satisfied member of Schools since 1982, and have always thought highly of the service and personnel. I am reasonably confident that after everything gets sorted out, I will be a happy customer again. The people I spoke to on the phone to help me set up my account were positive, efficient, professional, and apologetic. Since this merger/transition rollout has been in the works since last January, I am sure a pretty significant number of your members have been left scratching their heads in shock and frustration! read more

Update-After much back and forth, SFCU agreed to pay for a new appraisal which came back $50K higher than the previous one. Still low but good enough for a refi (but not if I wanted to sell). So I have changed my recommendation with reservations. read more

I recently had the occasion to do business with the Placerville SFCU and had a great experience. My sister and I are starting to help our elderly mother with her finances. We were greeted by Madeline Colmus who answered all of our questions and assisted getting us authorized on my mom's accounts. I have banked at Schools since 2010. Schools First took over in November 2020. It has been horrible. Mistakes are rampant. First, the conversion on the day of the changeover locked all customers out of their accounts. Once, we figured out how to get into our accounts, through long holds with "customer service", found that my account was lost. No record. I had tyo go into the office and stand in line at the bank I had never had any problems with before the merger, for TWO HOURS, behind hundreds of other customers. A mon th after the merger, I received a letter from the CEO apologizing for the inconvience. Wow. Today, I tried to log in to monitor purchases during the Christmas season and I have a "404 error". I cannot get through on the phone (something that never happened before) and sending messages is ridiculous because a response is not returned for a week or better. I have had it. Is this bank run by street thugs? DO NOT put your money into this bank. I am closing mine account. I am also reporting them to the banking commission here in California read more

Really bad place for business accounts. I was moving over my business and personal accounts to this institution and first thing I noticed was that I could not view them both (online) with 1 login ID. Had to have a separate login for each account (annoying). Then when I started making my business deposits they said I would have a 3 business day hold on checks (they tell me this AFTER I started moving everything, fine whatever. Turns out they still don't release the entire amount, had to wait a total of 10 days before my check (from a major national title company) was available (would have been nice to know before I started moving everything). I discussed situation with local branch person, she says "sorry that's our policy". Thanks for the big waste of time, now I have to move everything again... read more

If you are looking for rebuilding credit, schools credit union is not the place to do so. even with a vehicle as collateral with the title, they only go back to 2001. They suck, every aspect of rebuilding credit with no debt just a foreclosure from a divorce brought my credit below 600 and unless you have credit like bill gates they won't loan you even 500.00, I need to build credit and will have to save enough money to buy a house with cash I guess,, Schools Credit Union is the ultimate joke to restore credit, steer clear because every time you apply it brings your credit lower... The Loan offers are a joke. They are rude, and act like they are better then everyone else. I went to buy a car, and The loan officer literally made me feel like an idiot for picking out the car that I did. She was telling me that I was paying to much, she was telling me it had to many miles.....I laughed...because my buddy is in the car business and I knew exactly what kind of deal I was getting. I was getting a great deal, yet she seemed to think it was her job to tell me what a good deal was. When CLEARLY She knew nothing...about what she was talking about. I simple came into buy a car, and she convinced me not to finance through them and I went to another credit union. When I went to Sierra Central...Guess what....They simple just gave me a loan like I ask and didn't try and talk me out of buying a car. I sat and listened to many of the women that were working that day at Schools and It was like High school all over again. It seemed like I was surrounded by a bunch of high school girls talking crap about everyone and everything. It was very unprofessional. I would not recommend this credit union to anybody. Just a word of advice to anybody from schools credit union if anybody is reading this....When someone comes in and ask to apply for an auto loan....WE DONT NEED YOUR ADVISE OR OPINION ON THE CAR WE ARE BUYING.
