each one was better than the next

At the start of 2024, we treated my mother-in-law to a donut treasure map road trip in CDNY, traveling to a half-dozen different bakeries to pick out donuts to indulge in for a birthday celebration like none-other. I read MANY blogs, yelp reviews, and social media updates to compile the list of places to check out, and I was surprised that a little spot I had never heard of before called Schuyler Bakery continued to pop up in my research. I knew we needed to make it one of the stops on the donut tour, and it was 100% the right decision. These donuts were out of this world delicious. The exact right texture and mouthfeel I personally want out of a donut. Sweet, but not too sweet that you can't enjoy every last morsel. I also loved the variety available... maybe 10 different donuts all together at the after-lunch part of the day, all classics and nothing dripping in over-frosted goo or crazy toppings. These are the donuts that donuts are named after. We will definitely travel out to Watervliet to visit the small, old school vibes kinda bakery for a dozen or so of these again. A++.

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. She is nearly 12 and had never had a proper doughnut before coming to Schuyler Bakery. To be able to walk into a place where she could safely eat anything is an amazing feeling. We bought a dozen doughnuts and a pound of mini cookies and got out of there for $25. Service was great, price was unbeatable and the fact that my daughter can eat anything in the store is the absolute best.

Schuyler Bakery has been my go-to for Paska for maybe the last 10 years. I used to make my own, but I've never been able to achieve the consistency of lightness that I've come to rely upon with their bread. Every Easter and Christmas I go to pick up a small Paska ($5) and one each of their Prune, Poppy Seed, and Cheese coffee cakes ($5 each). These coffee cakes are huge and delicious. I will typically freeze half of each coffee cake since there is always so much for just three of us to eat at Christmas and Easter meals that half of three coffee cakes will last a week. It's also important to keep in mind that the couple of days before each of these holidays the bakery will have lots of customers. Sometimes there is a line out the door.

Amazing chocolate birthday cake! They are artists!

We absolutely love this bakery and the people who work here. Had a perfect experience with the team. We were coming into town and need a special cake for a very special occasion. They performed perfectly. Couldn't be happier. Their Italian cookies are world class as well. Lastly, their people are incredibly nice and capable. I wish this bakery was in my neighborhood at home.

Schuyler Bakery pull apart (20) cupcake cake

I was searching for a pull apart cupcake cake to no avail. I called BJs & Walmart bakeries several times but no one ever picked up nor was I transferred to the main number. I called Schuyler Bakery and they said "no problem" plus I could pick it up the next day! They did a beautiful job - exactly what I wanted. Everyone loved it especially "Kathy"!

It was an awesome bakery. Old style but well worth a visit. Offered many donuts with pumpkin and apple cider donuts for the season.

It was darkly lit inside (with pinkish/red lights no less); it was extremely loud to the point that I had trouble understanding what my wife was saying (which might not be the background music!); and the prices were expensive. The entire night they played 1980s New-wave British music which I don't mind, but had it been something I detest I would have lost my mind. We were seated at a tiny table with a small candle which provided some actual heat on the cold winter night. Our server was extremely helpful and though he didn't have all the answers he did offer to go and find out. They have a long menu but it doesn't have a lot of food options on it, with most of the pages devoted to alcohol. They had only one dessert option when we were there. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak with fries, mushroom sauce, and green salad (about $40 each). Hanger steak is my favorite cut and hard to find so I jumped on it. Food came out in about 25 minutes, which is amazing considering how small their kitchen is. The steak was cooked perfectly (they didn't ask how we wanted it), smothered in a lovely mushroom sauce, and covered an ample portion of crispy homemade fries which were so good I would have thought them bagged frozen items. Even the basic salad which was just various types of lettuce was great. They aren't cheap, but they are focusing on "farm to table" and that means quality food at commensurate (fair?) prices. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are $15, so if you want something lighter but still tasty you can go that route. Speaking of light, if you go into the bathroom on the right you will find a cold, dark, tiny room lit solely by a PINK bulb. It feels like being on a spaceship (as if I know what that is like), and after when you leave seeing the main light in the restaurant is very jarring. It was a fun experience but not inexpensive and not one that checks the boxes that I look for in a restaurant. Dark, loud, and cramped might be hip for the young or "save the earth" crowd, but I am too old to give up creature comforts for such things. The food, though expensive, was absolutely outstanding in every way though and I won't forget that steak for a long time.

The food here is delicious, three of us ordered the burger and fries and one of us ordered the fettuccine with crab meat. The fries really stood out. My daughter was afraid to order the fettuccine but she was so glad she did. The waitress was super nice and it is cozy inside.

Since that, it went downhill. The server took our drink and food order. I didn't get my coffee without asking twice for it, even though they brought 2 iced lattes that another member of our party ordered. Then we watched for 20 minutes as people that came in multiple parties after us got their food and we had nothing. Then she brought 3 out of 4 meals. My girlfriend ordered the special Raspberry Nutella French Toast. It came with strawberries and we were told, "we're out of raspberries so we substituted strawberries." That is total BS. How about telling us you are out of raspberries and asking if we want something else. My girlfriend can't really eat strawberries since they make her break out. Even worse is I STILL didn't have my food. Server said, "yours is coming, but I didn't want these to get cold." After the rest of my party was halfway done with their breakfast and I still didn't have mine, I asked for a manager. I was told there is no manager there...another load of BS. Server came back and I told her I didn't want my food at this point. She said, "okay, I'll just bring the bill." Are you f'ing kidding me??? You expect us to pay for this crap?? Needless to say, I will NEVER be back to this $hithole. Service is horrible and they will not let you complain to a manager. No manager is there on a busy weekend day? I find that hard to believe. Stay away from this place if you actually want to eat a meal and not just watch everyone around you eat. If you do decide to go, make sure not to sit in Tara's section.
