I went in here to grab a sweet treat and ended up walking out. People came in after me were greeted while I stood at the register getting ignored. I figured I was invisible to them so I left the bottle caps I was going to buy at the counter and walked out. I feel like this isn't the first bad experience I've had at Schwietert's. I was in Astoria on 6/13/26 with a group of Seniors. It was hot and we were waiting for the trolley. I went in search of Caramel ice cream and found it at Schwietert's. Salted Caramel...by far the best I've ever had! BIG PLUS...I left my wallet there and didn't discover it until after getting home (2 hr drive!). I called the next day and they had it...intact with nothing missing. The wonderful woman I talked to offered to mail it to me as quickly as possible and trusted me to pay her the mailing fee! Wow, the older lady with glasses behind the counter was disgustingly rude. I asked her a question about one of their candies and she acted like I was bothering her and barked back with a flat, unfriendly "NO". Eff you, too, lady. We all immediately walked out and went to Frite & Scoop next door with super friendly staff and better ice cream choices. We will never be back at this overpriced, tourist trap with "lovely" service. read more

Was excited to get some good chocolate yesterday with my wife, what an expensive disappointment! Bought $38 in chocolate by the pound. I purchased five different kinds. The chocolates looked appealing, but were terrible. The caramel was chunky like it had been overcooked and the chocolate had a waxy taste. The Honeycomb was so stale and the haystacks were hard as a rock with no detectable coconut flavor. Needless to say we ticked a box and won't be back. Don't waste your time while in Astoria, just go ahead and drive to Bruce's in Cannon Beach. read more

why does this place have such bad reviews?? we stopped in without looking at yelp reviews and it was such a delightful stop! they have soooo much candy, Astoria clothing, homemade fudge (you get a free sample too!), ice cream, and lots and lots of saltwater taffy. the worker told me its made in Utah. we bought a couple items and were really happy with the quality and flavor! I did knock one star off because the gentleman that was working that day (a young teen) didn't have the best service. my mom had purchased a sweater and when I was in line to purchase candy, he offered me a bag. my mom asked why she wasn't offered a bag when she bought the sweater and he said, "did you want one...?" I know, he's just a kid but it was kinda off-putting. other than that, a great stop! would definitely recommend. read more

This is an inviting store. They have a lot of fudge and chocolate options making it very hard to choose a favorite. They have gifts, I got a shotglass gift, they have your name on many gifts. I got a wristlet, they had a bunch of options and three of each sizes. There were a lot of fun candy options other than chocolate. And tons of salt water taffy. Mmmmmm!! read more

I ordered a birthday cake ice cream cone and the second the girl at the counter handed it to me it was already dripping!! I commented on this, and she told me "it's a little warmer in the freezers today, but it's still safe"....??? I tried to eat it as fast as possible while my boyfriend browsed. It was dripping everywhere. The cone was even less satisfying. It was stale and extremely difficult to chew. I asked my boyfriend to try it to see what he thought and it cut his tongue. Lol. Disgraceful and unsatisfying excuse for ice cream!! On one positive note:They do have a decent selection of candy... but nothing has prices. read more

Overall pretty satisfied. Good selection of gummies, hard candies and chocolate! There's also an interesting selection of toys and trinkets around the store. The person working there was quick & efficient, and put our chocolates on the side while we continued looking around the store read more

Amazing Shop! I took my eight-year-old son there after a dentist appointment and he's the one that told me I need to get on here and give them a five star review. They have ice cream and what look like handmade chocolates, and mini mini different kinds of candy and knickknacks. read more

I visited this location which is only open part time apparently until Summer and was disappointed in their selection and prices. They didn't have what I wanted which was grape favored jellybeans, red Licorice or caramel squares in the bulk candy jars. As for their whole made chocolate candies, they were over priced and I ended up spending $10 just to buy 4 peppermint patties. As for their fudge which I was planning on purchasing, it was uncovered & sitting out in the open. A bug was flying around and landing on it (gross). I pointed out the bug to the employee there and she simply responded by saying "welcome to Astoria" there's a lot of bugs here. This store is more of a tourist trap then a place locals would want to go to. read more

Went in here thinking it was magical and got a cone that was actually stale and hard as a rock. Couldn't even bite into it. Oh well.

I forgot to buy taffy while in Seaside so we stopped here on our way out. I figured taffy is taffy. Doesn't matter where you get it... wrong. The store was cute and inviting but the taffy was a hot mess. The candy was outside the wrappers so they were all stuck together. I had to throw away half of my bag because the candy didn't look like they pulled it at all so it was clear with a little bit of color. The taffy is too soft so they stick to the wrapper and is very difficult to unwrap to eat them. Fix the recipe. Pull the taffy. If you won't do that, I won't be back to this store. read more

I ask for a pint of ice cream and wanted three different scoops. After the first scoop was in the cup I told the server what I wanted for the second flavor. I was told. " only one flavor per pint". I ask if they were different prices and she just looked at me. I ask if they were the same price, what difference does it make. She said " only one flavor per pint". After she had put three scoops in, I said that is enough. She said " you don't want the whole pint"? I said not if it is all the same flavor. She charged me $6.50 for less than a pint. If it had been a full pint, that would have been $48 per gallon. I'm not sure what I was charged for. She was the only server in the store. This was a Sunday and Astoria Sunday market was going on across the street and it was the day of the "Bridge Walk" over the Columbia River so the town was crowded. She was busy but came across as rude. I won't be buying there again. My wife's does Astoria Sunday Market and I will be helping next year. I won't be going back in this store. read more

I went in there last weekend to try out this new addition to Astoria. The music inside was blaring at 100 decibels (this isn't a night club), and the young lady who waited on me had an attitude problem. That said, the ice cream was delicious and they have a huge variety of candy. read more

I had some really old tasting chocolate by the pound today. It was so nasty, I had to spit it out. They need to clean out the old candy more often. The truffles were actually pretty good, so I'm giving it two stars instead of one. read more

Great little shop. Super friendly people. Lots of different sweet options: salt water taffy, bulk candy, caramel apples, fudge, chocolate dipped treats, and assorted candies. Ice cream was a little soft but who cares, it's ice cream. I would go again. read more

I didn't feel like a kid in a candy store. Stopped into Schwietert's today. I realize it's a new store, so I'm sure they are working out some kinks. Good variety of nostalgic candy, ice cream, taffy, fudge, dipped chocolates, and bulk candy, however many of the prepackaged candy didn't have price tags. My kids each picked up a candy that ended up being $3.00 a piece. What?!?! When we opened up my daughter's hard candy and discovered it was broken. Many of the bulk bin candy sat empty or low on contents. Only saw large plastic bags available for the bulk area. Fudge is made in house, but dipped confections come from Portland, and I'm guessing the taffy is shipped in as well. Other than the crappy candy my kids chose, prices seem comparable to other candy stores I have patronized. Definitely feels like a tourist place and not a local establishment, but I suppose that could change. I probably won't be returning anytime soon. read more
