Marionberry Pie and Mountain Huckleberry. Both from Tillamook, which around here is less a brand and more a benevolent dairy cult. These berries are like edible postcards from the Pacific Northwest. One bite and you're knee-deep in a foggy forest thinking you hear Bigfoot weeping quietly from joy. Of course the prices are high. You're in a town where the beach views are free and everything else makes up for it. The real gamble is who hands you your scoop. Some of us got generous lumps the size of a toddler's fist while others looked like they'd been served a sample. Such is life in a democracy. The lines wound throughout the store, but it moved along at a respectable clip. People were smiling. Sugar does that. All in all, this is the kind of place that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. A temple to nostalgia. A sanctuary for the sweet-toothed and sunburnt. Four stars. On our walk to brunch from where we parked we walked past this place. My granddaughter looked up and me and said "what's that smell?" Oh she knew what she was smelling. It was a mixture of candy, waffle cones and other goodies. But first we needed to have lunch and I promised we would be back for some ice cream. What's a vacation without a daily scoop of ice cream ESPECIALLY when you are on vacation with your GG? I made good on my promise. We walked in and were met with a display of various fudge, saltwater taffy galor but we were there for some ice cream. Which was located at the back of the store. Displayed in all its yumminess was various flavors of Tillamook ice cream. Granddaughter chose birthday cake. I had jamoca almond fudge and my son had a cherry jubilee. It's such a cute little ice cream parlor full of all the sweet goodies you want. The sweet, sugary smells of ice cream, fudge, and candy hit you while you are still outside, tempting you! Once you're inside, the decision on what to have is difficult! A variety of different fudges for the chocolate lovers--a variety of ice cream flavors for the ice cream lover. You can't leave here disappointed! The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. They were chatty and welcoming and offered samples and suggestions. There were so many flavors of ice cream and all the taffy flavors you could ask for. The good news is there is a sugar-free option for those who are looking for it. The taffy was so good and possibly some of the best we've ever had! My daughter had a blast in the parlor and just had a ball looking around. The only negative we had was the no of flavored popcorn we bought. It was not fresh and seemed to have been made two days or the day before. It was stale, and we dumped it in the trash immediately. Cute candy shop in Cannon Beach that seems a little too big for its britches. Specifically, the space this particular location occupies (apparently this is a chain with several locations up and down the Oregon coast) seemed a little empty, and its decor a bit bland and uninspired, but they hit all the right notes when it comes to their selection of sweet treats. From homemade ice cream served in cones crafted on site, to the wall of Jelly Belly dispensers, 94 types of salt water taffy (obligatory for *any* coastal town worth its salt. Get it?! Salt!), truffles, fudge, most grocery store standards, retro candies of yesteryear, and a heaping hulk of bulk classics (gummy, chewy, chocolatey, etc), its hard not to find something you like here. While not as well known as Bruce's at the other end of Cannon Beach, I much prefer Schwietert's for several reasons. - The store is large with ample space to walk around, especially at the taffy bar and gummy bar. - They have 96 flavors of taffy, many very unique - chili mango, yes please! - Their caramel apples coated with peanuts are the best! The crisp, tart Granny Smith apples the perfect balance to the sweet handcrafted caramel and salty peanuts. And big enough to share! - fresh popcorn ad cotton candy available - Ice cream is not my first choice for a sweet - I know, I'm an outlier! But I will happily get their salted caramel and mocha almond fudge any day of the week! - Prices are reasonable for a specialty candy store in a tourist town. They have fudge, which I'm not a fan of, and a counter with individual chocolates by the pound. Wish they had a larger selection of dark chocolate. Now that I'm older, I no longer eat milk chocolate which is just too sweet for me. Towards the back there is a small gift rack of novelty items like boxes of emergency underwear and Bigfoot soap. Fun stocking stuffers! During Covid they are limiting customers, everyone wearing masks, hand sanitizer provided. Loved the look and smell coming from the store. The two employees were very nice and helpful. Great selection of candy, fudge, caramel apples and ice cream. I bought a small bag of gum balls from a self serve bin. The fireball gum balls were so stale that I couldn't bite threw them. My husband got through one and it just crumbled apart. Really gross, and I ended up paying $8.00 for something we couldn't eat. I wish they would make sure their products were fresh. Came here for ice cream and enjoyed it. Staff weren't very welcoming or helpful with scooping, and I was bummed that there weren't samples. The ice cream in the left-hand case was from Cascade Glacier and the case on the right was Tillamook. I opted for the pecan praline from Cascade Glacier and it was amazing - flavorful and creamy. I give it a two because the lady that waited on us when I asked her if she knew any of any ice cream parlors had licorice ice cream she told us no. When we asked her about Zinger's, another ice cream parlor we heard has licorice ice cream , she replied they're never open. We found that to be untrue after we left this establishment. Zinger's is open on the hours they claim to be open posted on the door of their business. Also, I spent $29.69. I was never told that if I spend another $0.31 that I would qualify for another $5 wiuiorth of candy. A bonus offer that's posted on their door and maybe other places in the store but I didn't notice it until later on in the evening when we were walking down the boardwalk in Seaside to go for dinner. I would have taken my receipt back to the store and ask them to honor the $5 bonus but I didn't keep my receipt. Very poor business practice, extremely poor customer service. I would never recommend this business to anyone. I work in the customer service industry , and would never dis another business or not explain an offer that we had to benefit a customer and make them happy. Wow wow wow... they had a smaller one in manzanita, then we saw this and it was huuuge. Mayne the biggest candy store i have been in yet. The prices were very good for ice cream, gummies, and boxed. The chocolate and the truffles were just a bit more than normal at over 20/lb. We went big on the gummy wall 8/lb and the carmel corn was kick ass. They had some fun stuff here, big candy... lots. Odd gummies like chicken feed... check. Cool creations that were new to me like cinnamon gummy bears in chocolate, orange cream gummies, and starfish... ohhh yeahh. They jad japanese candy galore, they had funny gifts lile gums and mints. The waffle cones were so dang fresh you could smell it out the door!! I'm not too into sweets so when I do crave ice cream I definitely am slightly picky about it. I usually go for a chocolatey flavor, never usually berry- how very I wanted to try marionberry out because I heard it was pretty popular. This place was just not my personal favorite. When in Astoria you must visit Schwietert's as it is said to be the largest candy and ice cream chain on the Oregon Coast. They have old fashion sodas to reminisce of the past and a large assortment of handmade treats. The staff was as sweet as the truffles. Ok I try to keep an open mind even though I don't really have a sweet tooth. With that said after talking to sales representative I ordered a few of all his favorites. The boysenberry truffle wasn't just any chocolate it was rich in boysenberry balanced with an elegant truffle. Cowabunga was it burst of of heaven. Yes... the old fashion sodas got me recollecting Ninja turtles terms. The sea salt dark chocolate and Carmel truffle was great. How can you go wrong with a salty sweet merriness. If you're a candy fan, this is your zen. I am not, and still I was incredibly impressed. We went in for ice cream, and the selection was good - and the ice cream was as well. In addition, they have something like 96 flavors of saltwater taffy, as well as TONS of other candy options, homemade fudge, truffles, look: just go there and check it out yourself. We stopped inside of Schwietert's because I noticed how great this placed smelled from the sidewalk... How can you ignore the smell of fresh waffle cones?! I can't say much for the candy selection here, because I didn't pay any attention to that. I was there for the good stuff - the ice cream. I sampled the Peanut Butter & Chocolate and the Kona Coffee. The PB & Chocolate was SO good; rich chocolate and generous chunks of peanut butter. The Kona Coffee was deeelicious and so I ended up going with that one. Prices are nice & cheap - I just got a children's scoop because I didn't want to eat too much... $2.75 and it was just right! There's so many other flavors of ice creams here... Yum! Yum! Yum! We visited this wonderful place everyday we were in Cannon beach! There is really something for everyone. Taffy, cotton candy, incredible fudge, and of course ice cream. There is a huge selection of candy here as well, but we always made a beeline for the fresh stuff. Icecream with handmade waffle cones was a hit all around. Mocha almond fudge and salted caramel were our top flavors. Everyone was so friendly and helpful here, and there were safety precautions in place for sanitizer, social distancing, and all workers had masks and gloves. Came here tonight to get some ice cream and experienced the worst customer service ever for over priced ice cream. They have kids running this store who do not know how to handle customer service at all. They tried to sell me nasty tasting ice cream and when I asked them to replace my one scoop of ice cream that cost 4.75 most likely the price of the whole container. First they said No then when I asked for my money back they said ok and they try to give me this skimpy little portion that I would never pay 4.50 for this bite size. Thrifty ice cream taste better. Don't waste your time or money. The worst thing about this place is the horrible customer service. Just very immature little kids running a candy store. It's just like that Kids in a Candy Store. There are many different kinds of candy, even ones us Gen X's gew up on. The ice cream line (serving Tillamook) was insanely long, but worth it. I felt bad for the staff. It looks like they definitely need more people helping. There were only two staff members on a Saturday, in the middle of Summer. One at the cash register, and one working the ice cream counter. They were still very kind, and worked hard. The prices were great, everything we purchased tasted amaaaazeballs, and next time we go to Cannon Beach, we will be back for sure. The single scoop of ice cream is dwarfed by the waffle cone. I watched one of the two workers scold the other about making scoops too big. When it was our turn, I got a scoop slightly larger than a ping pong ball. They even have styrofoam globes behind them so they can be sure they give you the smallest scoop possible.
