Getting salt water taffy almost feels like a requirement when I visiting the coast. It definitely is for my mom so I stopped by to grab her some whilst we are here in Seaside. It was a busy place, and keeps later hours than the salt water taffy place down the block, lucky for me. It's a fairly large store with all kinds of sweets and ice cream. I got a bag of taffy for my mom and then also one as a gift, just an assortment I picked out. From the large selection (I think at least 50 flavors). I also got some fudge (my mom's got a sweet tooth!) for our group of nine visiting to share. They had divinity, an old-fashioned confection of which my mother is quite fond so I picked up some of that, as well as some dark chocolate sea salt and some rocky road. They give free samples and I got a taste of the dark chocolate sea salt--heavenly. I only interacted with one staff member but she was helpful. The parking is street only. read more

Anniversary day trip to Seaside to have lunch and walk around. This is always a must stop every trip. The nostalgia of so many different varieties of candy from our childhood brings a smile to our face. We're literally running around the store saying "oh my gosh look at this" or "did you see this?" It's always a fun experience. They have homemade fudge , a variety of chocolates and different twinkies. Family favorite are the great candy apples made in house. They also serve up icecream with housemade waffle cones. Your sweet tooth will definitely be satisfied! read more

There are a lot more flavors of taffy, which is enticing, but the taffy is overpriced and not fresh compared to other places.

I went into the shop with my family and got a scoop then my sister, who's deathly allergic to pistachio (which is a flavor there), asked for a clean scooper because of allergies. The worker ignored then scooped the ice cream and my parents noticed so spoke uo. She (the worker) acted extremely annoyed and went to the back of the kitchen and came out a little too fast. She finished up and we payed. While we were walking out she said "don't come back again". We went to a different shop and they had a clean scooper made just for people with allergies which is how it is suppose to be. Very disappointing experience:( read more

Wanted a dipped apple, but theirs were not attractive and I did not see a price on what they had, only a sign saying buy three get one free. Typical tourist-y beach town candy shop, but they did have a variety of products. Like, nearly every sweet you could want, and not just candy. There was the standard chocolate case, caramel covered apples, a ridiculous variety of salt water taffy, a wall of bulk bin treats, ice cream, international candy bars, novelties, and so forth. They also had souvenirs and creative/goofy gifts. There were at least two employees working, it was decidedly un-busy, and I stood at the case for a while before anyone asked if I required assistance. Still, they are teenage workers, I am not demanding world-class service at this sort of shop, and for selection alone I would give them 4 stars, but price prevents this. I got ONE piece of chocolate (they had dark, yas!) covered seafoam and it was nearly $5 (insert eye rolling emoji here). And then they don't accept credit cards, so it turned into a whole event rummaging for change because who the heck carries cash anymore? When all is said and done, I was consuming copious amounts of sugar, so it was good, but that was no life-changing treat. read more

I cannot recommend a better candy shop- especially for fudge- in Seaside. I recently went to Portland fudge company and they charged me $25 for two chunks of fudge and two Mario berry jelly sticks. Schwietert's is the trusted name for great quality fudge and be sure to pick up some penuche with black almonds while you're there- a good sized chunk is only 5.50. But there are so many more flavors and candy types to explore. Plus, they have locations all over the coast, so no matter where you find yourself, you can always buy some coastal fudge on every beach visit like I do. I have heard that their ice cream isn't the best, though, so stick to the fudge. read more

The ice cream here was absolutely horrendous to see...I was craving ice cream & with the shop around the corner closed, I went searching & found this place. When I tell you the ice cream in the cases looked horrendous, I mean it. EVERY. SINGLE. OPTION. was either caked with freezer burn or completely melted into a sludge mixture that was refrozen again. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was super bummed as I was ready to buy a cone asap. I've never seen such a gross mishandling of food on display like that from a business. I didn't want to awkwardly walk right back out after entering so I walked a candy isle & when I noticed absolutely nothing was priced it was the cherry on top & I quickly left. One star for Tillamook ice cream and one for the sweet girl working today. This place is super dirty. There were flies landing on the fudge being stored in the window as well as the caramel apples sitting on the counter. There were many missing labels for the ice cream so we could not tell what flavors they offered other than what was obvious (chocolate, sorbet, etc). Floors were dirty and their soda machine was out of order as well. I look forward to a few bites of a treat when I visit the beach. Most candy stores offer wide varieties, fresh product and great customer service. Schwietert's offered none of those. As I walked through the store I immediately noticed the layout of shelving and merchandising was set up in an almost 'we're closing' display. Gone are the cute shelves boasting great varieties with baskets filled to the brim with vintage varieties of retro candies. Yes, the salt water taffy had bask-esque displays, but the labels were next to invisible to read and offered what I later discovered was stale taffy that broke into pieces as it was unwrapped. With close to no discernible flavors that used to stand out with the fun patterns. Not any more. It is now tiny labeled stale, flavorless taffy. With some selections just inches from the dirty floor. No paper bags were available and only LARGE plastic produce bags were offered. My next area I perused was the hand made chocolate cases. It was the first day of Spring Break and most milk chocolate choices were sold out. On the first day of the busiest week in retail on the coast. So I decided to look on the very plain shelves with half empty chocolate bars. Finally I found a milk chocolate almond bar. But the sell date was October of 2022. I am not sure if they are aware that the nuts in expired candy bars can hatch bugs. (YouTube it if you can stomach it). The candy bar was taken to the front counter to let them know there were BOXES of expired chocolates being sold. When I let the woman at the cash register know about the expired candy she snapped back, 'That's why they are on sale!' I told her there was no signage indicated ANY prices (sale or not) and no signs letting customers know the product expired 5 months ago. She said THEY know it is on sale when they scan it. Which makes absolutely no sense for the customer. Most stores feature reduced prices on stock BEFORE it expires. The woman scanned the bar for me to purchase. I quickly let her know I did not want to buy old candy but was bringing it to her attention. She took off the purchase while rolling her eyes at me and threw the bar to a coworker and announced 'SHE DOES'NT WANT IT!' Then she walked away and said nothing. The nicer clerk who caught the candy stepped up and continued to ring up my sale. I pulled my wallet out to pay and noticed my purse flap was on the scale. I said, 'Ooops, can you weigh this again?' Once again the eye rolling was given as though I was questioning the sale or that I was checking up on the total. Which was not the case at all. I just didn't want to pay extra for my purse flap error. Again, plastic bags were used for my sale and no paper bags offered. I left and was very dissatisfied with the new layout, lack of selection, sparsely stocked shelves, limited retro selections, poor signage, stale taffy, expired product and disrespectful staff. What was once a delightful, fun experience is no more. My grandkids will visit Canon Beach and I will be treated as a valued customer at Bruce's Candy Kitchen. The staff wear gloves, masks and are kind & respectful, use paper bags and don't sell expired chocolate. read more

This place has the best fudge. I tried the pistachio and peanut butter explosion fudge and they were really good. I also bought a name plate souvenir from here. Formerly Buzz on Broadway, this Seaside location on the main street is a candy emporium filled with bins of candy and taffy where you pay by weight, as well as current and nostalgia candy bars, ice cream, kettle corn, and loads of specialty items. This place used to be pretty great (pre-Covid) but sadly each time we've gone since, which has been about 4-5 times, they've disappointed us. I understand it may be hard to keep bulk gummy candy in stock when business is slow, but they never have any bulk options when we go! Literally everything In the bins is almost gone, so there is nothing to pick from. Taffy is available, but we really enjoy the usually gummies and bulk candy they offer. What we do get is usually stale now too. Hopefully they can restock on some of the customer favorites. I wish I wasn't leaving a bad review but some times it needs to be done for change to happen. The candy prices and selection are what you'd expect. Some things are priced well, some things are overpriced but harder to find so seem reasonable. However, skip the ice cream. At a touristy ice cream shop you expect to pay inflated prices. So $6.50 for 3 scoops isn't unreasonable (in theory) plus the .50 upcharge for a waffle cone. Sadly, the smaller than average waffle cone was stale and not crispy nor flavorful. Then the ice cream scoops were so small all 3 combined were the size of an average scoop at any other ice cream parlor. I mean you go in, you expect to pay a higher price, but at least they make you feel like you got to your money's worth. This place just made me feel disappointed and totally ripped off. Stick with the candy. There are many ice cream shops on that street, skip this one. read more

There must be MSG in their Cheese Popcorn. If you have an MSG Allergy, BEWARE! I tried some today because everything looked Homemade. Nice big kitchen & They make certain things right there. However, after a fairly small amount of the Cheese Popcorn, I became sick in a way that only happens when I eat something with MSG. I have pills that disintegrate under my tongue, that stop the vomiting. They are prescription from my doctor. Absolutely the best ice cream, waffle cones, caramel appels and sweet treats in Seaside. My husband had the butterscotch ice cream & it was heaven on Earth.... Never even heard of some of their ice cream flavors before, but DAMN SON, so fucking good. I would give the service at this store zero stars if I could. The staff at the ice cream counter were EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. I walked in at 10 till 7:00pm and approached the ice cream counter where the girl working was on her phone texting. For 30 to 40 seconds she didn't acknowledge me. Then without looking up she states, "We are not serving ice cream anymore." I responded, "What, really?" and she turned her back and offered no explanation as to why. We should support small businesses during the pandemic, but businesses who hire employees that don't take pride or effort in their work don't deserve our money.
