I only tried the vegan soft serve, and it was delicious. I ordered a mix of the vanilla and chocolate. Unfortunately, the ice cream shop doesn't offer samples, so it was a bit challenging to know what to order. Vegan donuts are available here too. They also sell fries. read more

Came here for a post dinner treat! Great selection of ice cream and sorbets/non dairy options. Didn't get to try the frites, so no comment on them. There is limited seating indoors but a nice covered outdoor area available. Would recommend for people looking for food ice cream. Service was friendly! Super fun and cute ice cream shop! I get the impression that a lot of what there offer is half made or made to order. They have some really unique flavors and also make French fries, with a variety of toppings. There is limited indoor seating, but has large covered deck. I haven't spent much time in Astoria, but I get the impression this is one of the best ice cream shops they have. read more

Frite & Scoop was not as great as most of these Reviews say. The ice cream was good, but the Fries? They will be a hard pass if we come here ever again. My girlfriend and I were spending the day in Astoria and were told by some others that we had met to try this place. The staff is super friendly, but the food was very below average. We ordered the Fries and added Garlic to it, and they were just very ehhhh. They forgot the garlic on it, and charged us for it as well. They just tasted like normal fries, and there's no way they should have been $10. Overall, not a great experience with the fries and that's a tad odd since that's what they are known for. There are plenty of other places to go in Astoria for sure. read more

The ice cream is fine but the woman working on 4/7/26 at 12:35 was rather nasty to us. We had arrived with friends from out of town to get ice cream and discovered they don't open til one. We grabbed ice cream across the street and decided to wait in front of Frite and Scoop to open so we could get fries too. The building had an open pavilion style sitting area and our friend is disabled so we grabbed two chairs to wait until they were open so we could get fries. The woman opening actually kicked us off the chairs and wouldn't let us sit on the step outside because she had to put up a sandwich board sign exactly where I was sitting. We had just told a group of tourists how good the ice cream was and they should come back in 20 minutes. I'm now sorry I said that. I won't be back. That's too bad. I own a local business too and will make sure to let my guests know to avoid this place. read more

I've never had the frites, so I can't comment on that. To me it's all about that ice cream! Astoria's premier ice cream shop! Always a fantastic mix of newly concocted, and tried and true staple flavor combinations. Everything is made in house, and is as creative and delicious as any fancypants ice cream joint in Portland. Sweet corn blueberry is the bomb. Really. Like sweet cornbread ice cream. I'm also a fan of Raspberry Cream with a Kick--ice cream infused with just enough chilis to make that sweet, berry flavor slide into a warm pepper burn. They've got big scoops and little scoops, and all of the standard cone variations (cake, sugar, waffle). They sell pints to go as well. read more

While waiting for the train to come we decided to stop at this ice cream shop!! We each got a single scoop but I got two flavors because I really could not choose. They have awesome flavors that are clearly made in house. It reminds me of a ice cream place we have in Newberg which is home. We did also get the Garlic Rosemary Fries. We thought they were also good but the ice cream is the show stopper here. Staff was awesome the whole time and explained the split scoop, gave us their opinions and was generally very helpful! The ice cream shop itself is small but they have seating right outside it which is where we sat and ate. It was a very cute, family own little spot. The ice cream and waffle cones were good, and the fries were pretty good also. What keeps it from five stars? 1) They do not allow any samples. I understand their reasoning, but even allowing 2 per person would be a big help. 2) I asked for my single scoop to be split into two flavors (tip: this is the only place I've ever been to that will let you do this not only with the "single" scoop, but also with the mini or kid sized scoop) and specified which one I preferred on the bottom and which on top. That would have been an opportunity to explain that they scoop the flavors together so they are side-by-side all throughout. This could be a preferred way to do things in some circumstances m, but you have to make sure you want those two flavors paired together! As it was, I had a hard time separating one from the other in tasting. read more

What a fun ice cream shop. The staff was super friendly and helpful. He shared a bit about their ice cream and how everything was homemade. We were lucky to try the Lucky Charms flavor which was great. Store was clean and cute. Ice cream tasted great and was fresh. Would definitely recommend for a sweet treat stop. Service was terrible. When I asked for a sample the individual helping me said "we don't give samples and it's written on the flavor labels if you look ". I was like okay then. I then proceeded to ask what ingredients were in the ice cream. The individual could not tell me. Ended up getting a scoop anyways. Mistake on my part. The ice cream was not very good. Between the rude service and lackluster ice cream I just can't give this establishment more than 1 star. read more

Perfect place for an ice cream stop on the Astoria riverwalk. Family-owned and super friendly. We got really lucky that we came on the day they were celebrating their 10th anniversary offering 2014 prices. They don't do samples, but most of the flavors have detailed descriptions so you get a sense of what they are. read more

On the rare occasion that I actually found a parking spot, I went in to buy a pint of ice cream for home. There was an interesting flavor that had basil in it. I asked for a sample before paying nearly $10 for a pint. NO SAMPLE TASTES! I asked the staff why would I pay such a high price for an unknown flavor. They were polite, but I left without buying anything. I will not go back or recommend Frites and Scoops to anyone until this policy changes. I would happily pay 25¢ or so for a taste before buying. read more

Super charming place in Astoria! You must try both the ice cream AND the fries! Because they are both good! Little scoop size is small and perfect - I loved Astoria dog and sweet corn blueberry flavors. Wish I could hav had them all. This business is so amazing. I was blown away with the care given to me as a customer with celiac. They were more than willing to scoop from a fresh tub to limit cross contamination. The frites were delicious, the ice cream delightful (and safe), and the flavors were inventive. We ate outside and enjoyed the beautiful day. read more

The ice cream was good. I liked their Strawberry Sorbet. I got to try the Lemon Pie and the Chocolate & Chocolate Milk, both were also good. The fries was $10 for a pound. Extra $.50 for Garlic oil or Rosemary. Honestly, it's not worth it. We could barely taste the garlic. It's also heavy on the salt. It's not bad if you only eat 1/2 the fries but after a while, even my kid said it was salty. Maybe offer salt on the side. For sauce, we got ketchup, buttermilk ranch, sriracha mayo, & Belgian Frite saus. I was not a fan of the Belgian Frite saus. It tasted more like yogurt than a mayo-based sauce. I'm a huge pomme Frite fan so i would eat my way in fries every trip to Belgium. This sauce didn't conjour memories of escargot street food, waffles, & beer. Maybe i should've gone the British route and ordered malt vinegar. The service was fast and there are 4 picnic tables. History

Established in 2014.

In 2014 Kevin and Lisa Malcolm moved to the Oregon Coast and made Frite & Scoop a happy reality, combining their passions into one unique shop, featuring craft ice creams and tasty fries. In October 2023, Kevin and Lisa passed the torch on to Tom and Kathleen Strecker, whose daughter Julia had been one of the shop's very first employees. Tom is the General Manager and makes all of our French custard-style ice cream, and Kathleen is the Frite Boss. Julia and her husband Robby have joined the business and everything is now made by the four of us, here in our shop. Fries are made to order so they're always hot, then served with your choice of garlic infused oil, rosemary infused oil, fresh parmesan, sea salt, and housemade dipping sauces. We always have two flavors of sorbet and we carry vegan soft serve for those looking for dairy-free options. We are open all year round.

The chowder was rich, flavorful, and loaded with clams without being overly heavy. The lingcod was fresh, perfectly cooked, and had that light, crisp batter you want on fish and chips -- not greasy, not buried in breading, just damn good fish. My wife had the fresh Dungeness crab fry bread with chimichurri sauce, and that may have stolen the show. The crab was incredibly fresh and sweet, the fry bread was fantastic, and the chimichurri added just enough brightness and flavor without overpowering the crab. What really stood out, though, was talking with the owner. He told us how much pride he takes in catching the seafood he serves, and you can absolutely taste that pride in the food. He was also genuinely great to talk with -- friendly, down-to-earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. There's something special about eating seafood at a place where the person serving it actually knows where it came from and has a hand in bringing it to the table. That kind of connection and pride is getting harder to find. Great food, fresh seafood, and great people. South Bay Wild Fish House is absolutely worth the stop, and we'll definitely be back.

My mom got the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. I eat a lot of fish tacos and I think I prefer mine fried, but these were heaping full and a big portion. The rest of us got the rockfish and chips. The fish was tender, fresh, and delicious. I really liked the breading, it was crispy and thick, but it did fall apart super easily. These are definitely delicate. The fries were big and well seasoned. I also liked their tartar sauce a lot and they had every sauce imaginable on the table. The staff was friendly, the food was solid, and the portion sizes were big.

Frite & Scoop is the perfect stop along the Astoria Riverwalk. They make their ice creams in-shop, and serve up really fresh and interesting flavors! Would love to see them experiment a bit with some savory ice cream flavors. I have yet to be disappointed with an order! Sweet corn and blueberry has been my favorite so far. They offer so many different dipping sauces for the freshly made frites also--choose from classic, rosemary, or garlic frites and add a side of sauce or two! I recommend the blueberry mayo, creamy basil, and north coast fry sauce. read more

We stumbled upon this gem while searching for a local ice cream spot in Astoria, and boy, were we lucky! We absolutely adored all the flavors we tried. The Cold Coffee flavor was sublime, the Strawberry flavor was the best we've ever had, and the Hokey Pokey was a treat for salted caramel enthusiasts. The Raspberry with a kick was uniquely delicious. We also appreciated the option for tiny scoops, and the prices were quite reasonable. Although we wish it was closer, we will definitely make it a point to visit this place whenever we're in Astoria. read more

Ice cream was very good, but service was even better! A dapper young lad, Stevia, assisted me in exterminating my cravings for creamy goodness. His voluptuous scoops made my mouth water before I even got the cup. I got the extra strong hookup which made my day. I can't emphasize his scooping skills enough, he took it from a laborious effort to an art form. The flow of his arms made the experience just that little bit better. This kid deserves any promotion you can get him, even if it's to owner! read more

Can I leave 10 stars?? My family's favorite ice cream! The owners are so lovely and friendly! They are gifted at what they do and their passion shines through to their delightful offerings. Frite and Scoop offers excellent service and value, and incredible flavors. The highlight of our visits to Astoria are our family outings combined with Frite and Scoop! I always make sure to stop by when I'm in town. Their ice cream flavors are always unique and delicious and they offer "split scoops" in case you can't decide on a flavor. The Frite sauces offer plenty of variety so everyone can find something they love. Get there early if you're looking for the frites because they often sell out. read more

So good! The turmeric and ginger ice cream was the most unique and delicious flavor of ice cream I have ever had. The frites (fries) we also done just right with yummy dipping sauces, but for an original flavor, try the spicy honey glazed frites. We enjoyed everything here! read more
