Her name was Cookie from somewhere in the orient unkown to me but she had to have a FREAKING INTERPRETER standing at her chair the whole time. Reason 2) Because "Cookie" my hairstylist spoke NO ENGLISH, she TOTALLY SCREWED MY HAIR UP! She bleached it till it was fried white! Had a horrible experience with JEFF here. While I had an excellent experience with Charlie, I did not make an appointment and ended up with Jeff when I walked in. I came in for my wedding haircut and he made me look sloppy and gangster-trashy. He is not careful, neat, or attentive to detail and talks to other stylists and looks out the window while working on you. He basically rushes you out and does not care about the quality of his work. My ends were choppy and unfinished when he rushed me out after 10 minutes. He is also very rough, treats you like an animal and dried my hair by shaking it out. He should not be working at this salon. He gave me attitude when I complained to the management and couldn't fix it, then sulked back to the back room. He does not listen and has a poor attitude. While other stylists here are impeccable artists, Jeff is a fill-in for those who were unfortunate enough to not have made an appointment. Do NOT use Jeff. read more

It seems that every time I visit Scissor Hands, they make me a far more happier person when I leave with a new cut. That's because they are consistent and professional. It really seems like they know their stuff and it seems to be proven with pictures of all their visits to hair conventions. It's rare that I would give full five stars to a hair salon because of communication issues between me and the stylist. Once a groomer at Scissor Hands sees a picture of a type of style you're aiming for, they'll make it look just how you imagined it. It's one of those places that continue to strive for better work and better customer service. I cannot rant about this place enough. The only gripe I seem to have with this salon is the wait on weekends and that isn't even that long. The longest wait was maybe an hour and with plenty of things to do around the area. The location is extremely convenient though parking can be an annoyance on the busier days. Oh and did I mention? The pricing is unbeatable for what they do. An absolute steal. They did very very bad service and their attitude was also extremely rude. The young lady used the sprinkler towards my face and clothes when shampooing my hair, and then i was feeling like taking a shower within clothes. My face and clothes were all saturated in water, but they just said her was newer and such things usually happened, and nearly did nothing. Why such accidence happened to us customers so often? I can't understand. I made a haircut appointment for 5pm and not received the service until 6pm; however it only took 15 minutes to get my haircut. The hair designer worked so quickly because there was some old customer waiting for this hair designer. I think every customer should obtain the same service, but they didn't obey this. I love this place only because I love my hairstylist, Christine. She was my hairstylist for 3 years in law school but then moved to Miami for 2 years. But now she is BACK!!! I went to go get my hair magic straightened last week and was so happy to have her back. She always straightens my hair without making it look flat. She also does touchups of magic straight. Alot of salons won't offer touchups and make you pay for the whole thing. But she does touchups and only straightens the part of your hair that has grown out. This is much better for your hair overall and cheaper. She listens to what you want and is never pushy. But most importantly, she is a perfectionist and takes pride in her work. I love that about her. Also, for those of you that don't speak Korean fluently, no worries because Christine speaks English fluently! UPDATE: 12/9/2012 - Christine has moved to Pika Pika Hair Salon in the HMart Plaza in Duluth. I was in Atlanta for work this past week and was able to get an appointment with her. Loving my new perm! I had Yong as my technician and stylist. He went over how I wanted the perm to look and what style to use before doing anything, which I really appreciated. The last time I got a perm (at a different salon), my hair turned out terribly damaged and it just ended up with limp frizz rather than nice loose curls like I wanted. I swore off perms after that, but I decided to give it another try two years later. I washed my hair for the first time since my perm last night and the curls came out looking exactly the same as they had in the salon. My hair was hardly damaged at all! I have a bad habit of bouncing from salon to salon, but this time I'm here to stay! For reference, the price was $150 for the perm with cut before tax, for mid length hair about 4-5 inches below the shoulder. read more

I went to have my hair cut by Tony. I am Asian and I always have my haircuts in Asian hair salons. I showed Tony some pictures and he did an excellent job replicating the hairstyle. It is exactly how I wanted to be and I am very pleased with the results. He was also very patient, the haircut took around 45 minutes in my case. The girl who washed my hair was also super friendly. I went to this place because I liked the name - Scissor Hands. I called ahead to make a reservation and as recommended by others, requested Tony. He's $5 more than the others because I think he's the owner? Anyways, the extra money was worth it, since I had a great experience with Tony. He's very talkative and will make small talk with you, which I appreciate since a good haircut takes time! Women's haircuts start at $30; $35 for Tony. Overall, an average price for a decent haircut around Atlanta. I was treated very well by everyone I came across here, even though I'm not Korean. I especially enjoyed the hair washing before the haircut, as it was very well done and the firm head massage was relaxing. The interior is dark, with lighting in front of each station. It's a chic looking place that I liked the instant I walked in. Upbeat Korean music plays over the system and there is comfortable seating with magazines while you wait. Walk-ins are welcomed, but if you make an appointment, then there's very little wait time. read more

Sad to update my review with a 2 star but I have to with the experience I had. So, I needed a haircut and decided I was going to cut 6 inches off my mane for the summer. I usually use Jayna but she no longer works here. Jayna was awesome. But, she was gone and I had no other choice but to try one of the other stylist here. I should've seen the red flags and left but I didnt. Here's what happened: So I enter the salon which is usually pretty busy with cool music and TVs on with music videos in the background. Today, TVs were off and the music selection was erratic (not that this matters but it was a chabge from the norm for this salon). AND I noticed all men stylists and all men clients. I thought to myself, "where are all the females- clients and stylists??" But, I know men can be very very good at cutting hair so I figured I would stay and have one of the those young hipster dude stylists cut my hair. Why not. So, the front girl washes my hair and sits me down next to one of the male stylist who is working on a client. The way he was working with his shears I was getting excited. Seemed like he knew how to cut hair. After about 5 minutes in the chair, my actual stylist I was assigned for the day immerged from her hiding. Before this I didnt even know she was even there! It was this early 40 something lady with clothes that screamed FOB asian lady transitioning from middle aged to old who was trying to be hip with the times and her hair wasn't any better. Just her own hair styling should've sent major red flags but I decided to try anyways. Bad mistake. I told this stylist exactly what I wanted and even showed her a picture of myself and the hair style I wanted her to follow. She said no problem. She proceeded to cut my hair. Straight across with her shears. And the layers she placed?? Made the same way. Straight across with her shears. It was like my mom cutting my hair. I was mortified. I ended up with a box haircut with uneven bangs. It looked horrible. No blending l and no layering to speak of. Just a box haircut. After seeing her skills, I sure as heck didn't tell her to fix her mess because she probably would've butchered it even further. I was very unhappy and will not be coming back here again. read more

I travel 30-40 minutes and spend $35+tip for a haircut but it's worth it every time! Before I discovered Scissorhands, I've tried tons of salons up and down pleasant hill rd and everywhere else, but none of them could get it right. But Jay is a hair cutting and styling expert! He grabs a little section of hair at a time and gradually lets them fall while making quick snips at them to create the most natural, flattering result. When he's done with cutting my hair he styles it (for me it's according to his mood but I'm sure he would honor your requests). I leave super happy and I feel the need to go out and do something fancy after every haircut. I FOUND MY STYLIST!!! so the story goes that I used to be a pika pika girl. i typically only trust asians with my hair because while i'm white, i have thick pin straight hair, and they just rock it out. however, I moved away for a few years and when I came back there was new management. yuck. who likes change when we are talking hair stylists?! not this picky lady. so began my boycott. my boycott of haircuts. i was so scared to try somewhere new. i had my texas stylist, but after the move who, who, WHO was going to be my georgia stylist?! it wasn't until today that i found out Scissor Hands is owned by the guy who owned pika pika during the Golden Age of Beautiful Hair. i was ready. i was set. it was time. time for a brilliant haircut. i waltzed on in to Scissor Hands praying to get seen right away, and my prayers were answered. now don't get your hopes up-i came in right before i tidal wave of clients, so i don't know if they are always so walk-in friendly, but today was obviously my lucky day! why so lucky you might ask?? well, i didn't just get any stylist. i got the owner. i totally missed his name, but by the other reviews, i gather that it is tony. tony, tony, tony...will you follow me everywhere primping and preening my hair!? i am still high from the cut hours later as i write this. enough of my joyful banter though...here's the scoop: music-pop/rock. decor-crazy hip. i felt like i was in a music video haha. stylists-talented and attentive. the definition of cool. well groomed too. i hate when stylists look all rough. if you can't take care of your own image, why would i trust you with mine?! shampoo station-this part is important. some just plain hurt. these ones are like a massage table. you just lay and they wash. brilliant. prices-dirt cheap. and not even fertile dirt. we are talking arid dirt cheap. cut-f*ing fantastic. location-suburbs, yes. but it is in the middle of the korean marketplace, so at least you can make the trip worth it by stopping off for korean bbq while you are out in the duluth. this place is a freaking gem. it may be farther from atlanta than you like to venture, but the burbs have their perks: a cut for under $75 being one of them. mine was $35 from the owner, and the other stylists are only $25. insane i tell you, insane!!! read more

Yay for my first review!!! Speaking of firsts, it's also my first visit at Scissor Hands. I used to go to a vietnamese salon near our house before but my favorite hairstylist quit so I had to do my research on finding a good salon. I'm glad cos Yelp is a lifesaver! After reading some of the yelpers' reviews on Scissor Hands, I got convinced to go get my haircut there. I'm very particular with my hair so I don't easily trust anyone with it. Plus I wanted to change my look cos I got so bored with the same hairstyle forever. So I've read that it's a Korean Salon, to be safe, I brought a picture with me so the stylist would exactly know what I want even without having to describe it. And he got it!!! His name is Garam. He's super good. Normally, I prefer women to cut my hair, but that day, most of the stylists are men so I had no choice. Their interior is also stylish and their equipments are up to date. I don't know. My friends loves this place, but personally it's not for me. I came here with 2 friends of mine as they had appointment to get their hair cut. Since I need mine cut also, I figure why not cut it here since I'm already here. Well, the front desk lady was very nice and told me to give her a minute to get a stylist. I waited around and was just casually checking out the place. I saw her talking with one of the guy stylist and it seems like he didn't want to cut my hair cause it wasn't the "same" as all the other asian hair..(first off, im 3/4 asian and 1/4 american - i don't look exactly asian etiher) yes my hair isn't exactly silky straight and that it has curls/wave to it, but it doesn't mean you won't be able to cut it. He keep shaking his head and giving her a tantrum and I heard him say "get someone else to cut it, i don't want it". RUDE! So the lady return and say she will cut my hair and sat me down. I told her she doesn't have to wash my hair since I just wash it and straighten that morning and she was fine with it. while she was cutting my hair, we talk a bit and again, she was friendly. by the end of the service she had cut a bit too short than what i wanted ( i only wanted an inch off - not 3-4 inch) but it's okay. In the end, I still tip her generously since she was nice and did the cut for me even though no one wanted to. But would I come back here? Sorry but no. I used to come here 2009-2011. And I had great experiences. I would say 5 stars back then. There used to be Korean stylists from Korea who can cut really nice haircut. So I dropped by and get a simple layered haircut. I have a long hair. I am losing hair recently because of aging. So I asked the hairdresser to cut my hair lightly(Layered cut-Korean style) so my hair doesn't weigh down. And it helps to make my top look like I have more hair. He doesn't speak English, so I explained in Korean. And, I said I don't want my hair look less(main reason) and don't want hair curls outwards from hair cutting. First, he cut the length. Then, he went over every corner of my head to cut hair using special scissors(for purpose of getting rid of excess hair, usually for young girls to have less hair) three times all over. The result is that short length hair comes down above my ear everywhere while the long length hair comes down around shoulder blades. Half or one-third of my hair is gone naturally. He did exactly what I don't want. Then, with tiny hair leftover, he overused curling iron to make my hair puffed up. (I explained that I don't like curling iron curls.) My hair grows so slowly, so now I have to wait at least one year to make my hair look normal again. read more

Been here couple times and found out that u should make reservation or booking with the owner only. I had others try to cut my hair here and its always wrong. Yes I speak korean so no language barrier when I ask for things. Just make sure u make reservation with the owner even if it later into the week it well worth the wait. The place needs a bit of update in the interior since it feels a bit dark and some paint is pealing. Also the ceiling has a lot of dust. Either of these things should not keep u away from coming here. One bad thing is the parking spots. I have found when suno is busy here since they are in the same plaza u will have to park in the back in the h-mart parking lot and walk over. read more

My usual guy has been crazy booked lately and the hair was getting pretty long, so my wife convinced me to go to Scissor Hands while we were taking a trip up to Super H to stock up. This Korean joint was mod industrial with techno music in the background and TVs everywhere...ceiling, walls, you name it. Everyone was very curious how I found Scissor Hands...all three people (2 hair washers, and Tony) mentioned they've never seen me and how I ended up here...the questions probably had nothing to do with the fact I'm not Korean! Eh hem. Anyway, I went to the owner, Tony. He's damn good. He is Scissor Hands himself. He was chopping away at my hair from all angles...texturizing, thinning out, layering. I was pretty nervous. But the end result was a great haircut, and only $25 to boot. Can't beat that (no, you'll never find me in a barber shop). Tony is a mad scientist with scissors and heads. Recommend! read more

Ordinarily, I'd go to Pika Pika for my haircut, but since my boyfriend was getting his usual cut by Han, I decided to tag along. Hearing that Han also does women's cuts, I decided to give him a try. Han is meticulous about cutting and trimming. He gave me the bangs I wanted (side swept in the front) and also layered my hair the way I like it. He probably could have put in more layers and thinned out the top, but hey, this was something a little different. He probably could've cut it a little shorter, but I'd rather have hair that's too long than too short. I will say that there were two steps to his cutting. First, he trimmed my hair while it was wet, then he blow-dried it and cut it again when it was dry. It took almost the better part of an hour to be done, but again, he was careful. I might go back to him in a few more months. Otherwise, Scissorhands does a good job of keeping their shop clean. You'll hardy see piles of hair on the floor. Another strange thing I noticed is that it seems like there are more men on staff and more male clients. I don't think it matters too much as long as they cut well. read more

Scissorhands has been downgraded to 4 stars...the average of my 3 experiences (5+4+3)/3 the first time i went, i took in a picture of Hyori Lee (korean celebrity) and i loved my hair. good job. 5 stars for this trip The second time, i didn't like it as much (it wasn't stylish/trendy enough), so i went back and they very nicely fixed it for free. But of course i had to drive the 25 min all the way there, and pay another $5 tip. 4 stars for this trip, since they fixed it for free... I just went again last week, and i sort of said "just do what you think would look nice and is sort of different"...okay...it looks just sort of blah. like the bangs are way too blunt, and when i put up my hair in a ponytail, my hair is very chunky (like someone went in and cut straight 1 inch slices). It wasn't the same amount of attention to detail as i experienced previously. The cut isn't well blended and not very stylish at all. 3 stars. I think I'll be looking for a new salon. I don't even feel like going in and having it fixed. Unfortunately, that means i'll have to get a whole new haircut (2 haircuts in 1 month!! not cheap!) In conclusion: Scissorhands is good for a basic haircut, or when you have something specific in mind. But if you just want an improvised hair cut...the creativity won't be found here. read more

I went in today because my hair desperately needed a trimming. I normally go to pika pika which has always been great, but I wanted to see if scissor hands would have been a little less crowded, maybe a little faster. It was less crowded, but I still had to wait since I did not have an appointment. That's fine, as long as my hair gets done right! I was called back by a lady which did not introduce herself to me. I have no idea what her name is. Not only did she not introduce herself to me, I'm pretty sure we exchanged words 5 times. She was not friendly. Well that us fine with me if she can cut my hair nicely! No. She was rushed, did not ask where I part my hair (i think all salons ask me that) and gave me okay layers. My bangs were a little uneven, had some long hairs in it because she didn't really seem to pay too much attention while cutting. Normally my hair cutting person will ask me what I think after a cut. This one did not. I pointed out that my bangs were a little odd and she brushed it off. I asked to see the back of my hair and she looked as if bothered and brought me a mirror. I eventually came home and trimmed up my bangs so that they looked better. It's as if I was an inconvenience to these people. I paid my hard earned money AND entrusted my hair to you, ... the least you could do is try a little bit harder. Not nice, okay hair cut, just... Never coming back again. I am very picky with my hair therefore I'm always hesitant to try out a new salon or trust a new person to cut my hair. I'm really glad I checked out Yelp for the best salon around my area and all of the reviews convinced me to try out Scissor Hands. The atmosphere of the place is very trendy. When you sign in someone greets you and takes your coat and purse to hold on for you. I had my hair washed and blow dryed first ( I was glad they cut hair when dry!). My hair stylist was Charlie Choi (he has a very unique style) and he did a great job! I'm not Korean therefore I do not speak or understand Korean so I was relieved when Charlie spoke a bit of english. I guess you don't need to speak Korean or your stylist doesn't really need to speak fluent english for you to get your information across. All I had to say was, "I want long layers and side bangs", and he got it just right! I paid $30+tip and that's including shampoo, cut, and style, so it wasn't bad at all! I've paid way more for haircuts that I did not like. I will definitely be coming back and my sister is even excited to try this place out herself :) read more

Where to start? Made an appointment for 11:00am for two: myself and my mom. I felt bad that I was about 5 mins late but when we arrived it was a full house already, and they open at 10:00! Anyways, so we both sit for a few minutes, maybe 10. My mom gets her hair washed and dried then was asked to have another seat and wait. We have been waiting, now for 45mins as other "appointments" get seen first. So at this point, I'm not sure what the process is for making appointments or making one at all. I'm trying to be patient and nice about it. Just sitting patiently and waiting, trying to make eye contact with their front desk staff. They kind of give us the side-eye glance but never really giving us any acknowledgemet. I finally walk up and ask how much longer before my mom gets her hair cut and for me to have a wash. They look at me like "who are you and do you have an appointment?" And I'm still trying to be nice and give her a smile...I had an appointment at 11. It's past 12:00PM. She apologetically smiles and goes to ask a senior hair stylist, comes back to let me know it's going to be another 15-20min wait as they are "very busy". In my head I'm like, yes I know you are busy. That is why I made an appointment. Update: 12:17. Mom finally gets seen by a stylist. She's super sweet and nice. I think she gets what my mom wants for her cut. Will update again when she is done. Update 2: 12:20. I'm getting my hair washed! Having a chat with the shampoo girl who also took my appointment and she was very sweet and let me know that when she manages the front desk, appointments get seen. But the stylists will sometimes take walk-ins for a quick buck or if they recognize a walk-in, they take them first. Final Update: 12:45. My mom is happy with her cut and styling. I'm happy that she's happy. I'm meh about my cut. The experience beforehand made me immune to everything at this point. I'm just happy to be able to get out of there and eat lunch. I won't be coming back for myself. But if mom wants to get her hair done again, I'll come with her, just to make sure she isn't sitting and waiting for more than an hour+. read more

If I could I would give zero stars---!!!! I came here on a cold snowy day with my mother from Ohio because of a glowing personal recommendation. The rec came from a family friend who took her sisters, mother and two dogs to get cuts here. The stylist was very rude to my mother. He completely ignored what I had to say when he was cutting my hair. On top of that, he kept clipping at my ears with the scissor and comb!!! It was painful. I told him to be careful with my ears (which he ignored); then he threw my chopped hair in my eyes repeatedly, tossing my hair roughly and moving my head because he was so rough. Such a rude stylist and full of himself with haughtiness. What a nightmare. I asked him to fix the awful cut and he refused, with a puffy breath and walked away saying rude things. Don't come here for hair coloring. Studio itself is very modern and clean, staff is friendly and they are pretty on-time with wait times IF you call ahead and make an appointment. In my opinion, they do a good job on haircuts and trims and styling, but if you're looking to put chemicals into your hair (i.e., hair dye, toning, highlights, etc.) I would go somewhere else. I do think that if you speak Korean you might have an easier time as a majority of their staff speak Korean, and communication on what exactly it is you want might not be a barrier. I had a difficult time with my stylist and kept re-iterating that I did not want to color my roots, but she proceeded to color them anyway. Overall, I was not completely satisfied with my hair, but it will grow out so I'm not too heart broken. read more

My primary place to get my hair cut. My experience is with cookie who I religiously ask for in each of my visits. Shes well rounded, will give you a good cut short or long but she specializes in short hair. If you consider yourself to have the typical asian hair style, short buzz side and back and spiky top, you cant go wrong with cookie. As far as long sides back with semi long hair length on top which you blow dry up and style with wax, you'll really have to be specific and must visit this place with your hair do done before you ask cookie to do anything. The chances are, she wont share the same tastes as you. its important to make your barber understand what your style is. I feel comfortable sitting in that chair cause i know she wont mess my hair up. read more

My go to place for a haircut! Jayna is awesome. They carefully shampoo your hair before the cut and it's so incredibly relaxing. Jayna is meticulous and double checks, triple checks to make sure you look good. It's now $35 for a women's hair cut. I have straight, long thick black hair, so it usually takes close to 45 minutes. My sister got her hair cut here last week, and we noticed the prices went up a bit. Haircuts are now $30 for women, and $20 for men. The price includes a shampoo that the stylist gives you AFTER cutting your hair. I thought my sister's cut looked good and hip, but I prefer my stylist at Unga, because my stylist seems to be more of a perfectionist. I've been to Scissor Hands 2 times in the past few months. Coming here for the first time was a little intimidating. I'm Asian, but don't speak Korean, so I felt a little out of place. My stylist, although she spoke very little English, did a wonderful job. I told her I wanted to keep my layers but I wanted my damaged ends cut off. At first I thought she cut off too much and my hair was too short, but it grew out really nicely, which I definitely appreciated. I didn't get her name though, but I think it was Yuki (who no longer works here btw). The price was very reasonable, especially considering they style your hair afterwards too. 1 star off for the second time I was here. I had Andy as my stylist, despite making an appointment with Hyun. While I appreciated my stylist's effort and the amount of time he spent cutting my hair and fixing it, I don't think he did a good job at all. He kept trying to make sure the 2 sides of my hair were the same length, so he kept on going back and forth, eventually cut off more than I wanted him too. Also, he didn't blend my layers very well (there was a big gap between 2 layers on the right side of my head), and the thickness of my layers on each side were different. Despite the discrepancies, I plan on coming here again tomorrow for a 3rd haircut. I asked for Charlie, so we'll see how that goes. read more

Today I went here with my girlfriend. I did perm+ haircut and she got her hair layered+ dyed + cut. Price was not the cheapest but we got the perfect haircut we wanted to get. I have lived in USA over 10 years and this was the first time I was fully satisfied. Hairstylist Jay is extremely good and knows exactly what to do with your hair. On top of that he is a super nice guy. Recommend 100 %! read more

This place does cut pretty good hair. The problem is that the place is always crowded, and they do keep you waiting long. Even more important, the price is a little bit too expensive for a simple mens cut. Probably you should get your hair cut for cheaper, 25$ for a simple 20 minute cut is too expensive for what you get here. They need to drop the price to about 15$ for a mens cut. It seems like they are always rushing with the customers, better to find another place that will give you good hospitality. read more

I came here on a Saturday around noon with many people waiting in line. I settled in and they washed my hair. Then, I waited for about 40 minutes or so and was greeted by Jin. I had a haircut and a perm. Jin was very informative and was trying to explain the science behind everything to me, despite limited English. He was very attentive throughout the session and was very pleasant to work with. He offered drinks during the wait and kept me informed about the process of the perm and estimated time and sequence of events throughout the session. When I just moved here, I went to Unga first for a hair cut. Ehh... The guy cutting my hair couldn't speak english and therefore, we couldn't communicate = bad hair cut. But upon reading reviews for Scissor Hands, I went in with an open mind and came out happy. I requested Christine (Based on past yelpers!) and I got a great hair cut. Hair cut was $30. I went back a few months later and got it cut and dyed for $85. When they wash your hair, there are TV's mounted on the ceilings for you to watch. But my eyes were closed most of the time :D read more
