The place was adorable, well kept, clean, and efficient. Everyone there was bubbly and kind, and a pleasure to talk to. And I got the best haircut I can ever remember getting. When I walked in I only had to wait about 5 minutes until I was taken. My simple cut took at most 10 minutes, I paid in cash, and was out. I wanted to cut my long hair ( it was to the middle of my back) into a long layered bob. This cut would be ideal because I have baby fine hair and this particular cut would make it look healthier and thicker while having volume. I was nervous about choosing a beauty shop because in the past, going from long to short had been a nightmare because they'd take too much off and then what was supposed to be chin length, turned in to a pixie cut. I felt like it was time to go short again. I had about 3 pages of hair salons to choose from but what caught my eye was a review about the very cut I was wanting. And the price would only be $18 vice the $64-$84 quotes I received from the other salons I called. The place is called Scissor Shack and I know what you're thinking. That just sounds like some hole in the wall place that probably isn't familiar with that hairstyle. However, these ladies are extremely talented and I feel very fortunate to have found this diamond in the rough. Kelly immediately knew what I was going for after showing her a few photographs. And about 30 min later I was out the door with the most amazing cut that even my old stylist in L.A. was impressed with when I sent her pictures. Not only is Kelly brilliant but she also offers suggestions that makes you feel as though she really is paying attention and not wanting to rush you out the door for the next customer. This is a tiny little place that doesn't come close to a "salon". That I don't mind. Kim colored my hair for $45 and when the color wasn't perfect she insisted I come back so she could fix it. I'm about 7 and a half months pregnant and had an urge to do something for myself to feel pretty instead of like a beached whale. I was initially hesitant to come because my husband had come before and was completely ignored (though about a -1 star for that, but the cuts and colors are too good here... Couldn't do that to them). Hubby ended up leaving pretty bummed, but the reviews were so good I decided to give it a go on a Sunday afternoon. I didn't give kelly much to work with because I didn't know what I wanted at all which I'm sure was super frustrating for her. I was worried because the color she was recommending was way lighter than I had thought I would ever go and I kept changing my mind. I finally said "do whatever you want just make me feel pretty" and she absolutely did. She put the light color in and I stressed until I saw the result. It looks amazing. I've enlisted yelp help before when trying to decide where to get my hair cut - it hasn't worked. I've met some lovely stylists I'd rate five stars for personality, and had some nice cups of tea. But the haircuts were a little amateur - gaps where there shouldn't be, layers that were just too blunt and unblended... I started to doubt you, yelp, and I started to just... not get my hair cut. But the last year has taught me indecision and avoidance aren't good stylists either. Friends would comment 'oh, hey, your hair is... long.' Because what else could they say? I cry easy. When I read about Scissor Shack, and the fact that during the cut the stylists were conversing in their own language (Vietnamese, btw) - I was reassured - if there isn't the usual back-and-forth between stylist and client doesn't that mean the ratings are based on the quality of the haircut and not some shared love of Bieber/Twilight/halibut whathaveyou? The theory proved right (but don't get me wrong - all three ladies were welcoming and friendly) - great cut. Cut dry, then spritzed before blowing dry, but the protocol is probably based on what the client needs/wants. The price was more than posted here - $23 - but that's astoundingly reasonable - Kim spent an hour on my hair - (remember, no time deducted for shampooing) - and had to hack through hair that hadn't been cut in a year. Made an appointment with Kim for a cut based on the reviews here. The reviews are all true. They are busy, busy. All the ladies are good, there is a restroom, and a small parking area. Come early if you don't like waiting. I asked Kim where I could go to get color done, and come to find out she does color as well. She fit me in that day. I love my cut, and I love my color. She is great at both. She is also cool with people asking her to change stuff on the style without getting bent out of shape. I really liked how she varies the chemicals in the color to keep the hair healthy( it seems healthier to me, much more shiny). After she was finished, she explained the bill would be higher this time because she is transitioning my color, but it would be cheaper after the next time. My bill was half I normally pay at another salon. Half. She is very honest and explains what you are paying for. All the ladies are very nice and professional. They make you feel welcome and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Finally, a good haircut. I'm giving Scissor Shack five stars, partly because of all the lame, overpriced places I've experienced. I don't know if my hair is especially hard to cut (I don't think so) but I was starting to think I'd have to go to beauty school just to be able to explain in great detail how to cut my hair. I'm sick and tired of places that charge far too much and have no idea what to do with you if you don't want to look like a hipster/emo nightmare. And if I want atmosphere, I can go to a nightclub. I finaly got a haircut I like without having to explain too much. Kelly at Scissor Shack was great - fast, pleasant small talk, and above all she gave me a great cut with a minimum of instruction from me. I told her I like it short and professional-looking without needing a lot of product, and I don't want to look like a pinhead or a mushroom. A short time later I walked out with the best cut I've had in ages. And the price was great. I'll definitely be going back. I can't testify about the quality of their women's styling, but if you're a guy who wants a great cut in a short time at a great price without a bunch of extraneous BS, this is the place. I have moved here recently and had my hair cut at a very stylish salon, the cost was $75 with tip. Being on a fixed income, that hurt. So before my next cut I got on Yelp to see what was out there and found Scissor Shack. I was a little apprehensvie at first because of the $18 price. I will say it is a no frills salon, if you want a wash you have to ask. I was given to Kathy because she was up next. I have to say it was the best cut I have had in a very long time and Kathy is wonderful. Then to save money I had bought a demi-color that turned out not so demi, so I called Kathy and she said no problem come on in and I'll fix it. I am not coming back to this place ever again. I went in to get a haircut and eye brow wax. The lady I got didn't even speak to me. She didn't ask questions, she just did what she wanted. Luckily I don't care about the side of my hair as much but she would fade it 0-1 when I just asked for a 1 on all sides. Didn't even line me up or do my edges. I then got my eyebrows done even though I was reluctant. But while she was doing it, I knew she messed up because of her movement and reaction. Even after trying to fix it my brows are not well! I still even have some wax on me when I left the shop! Talk about unprofessional. Really bad experience and it was so rushed ! Literally did all of that in like 20 minutes maybe. coming from los angeles, there aren't many options to get a mens haircut for a good price. My cut is simple...close to a military cut but still people screw up. The lady that did my hair did an average job which is about what I was looking for. The place doesnt seem to be the cleanest with their instruments. The only place I get my hair cut! Never had to wait more than 20 mins even when I do walk-ins and I always get the results I ask for. All 3 hairdressers are also very nice and the pricing ($18 for women's haircut) definitely beats going to a really fancy salon that charges $30 for a trim and not getting what you want. read more

Yelp NEVER fails me!! I read all of the reviews and decided to stop in for a much needed cut. I walked right in and was seated immediately. The stylist listened to what I wanted, made suggestions, and 20 minutes later my ridiculously thick and wavy hair was cut into a perfect A-line!! $25 (including tip) is easily the least I have ever paid for a haircut much less one that turned out so great.
