This is my first review of scoop, but my second time there. I went for the grand opening and wasn't totally impressed. I went back tonight though for my second time and fell in love! I don't know what changed over the past few weeks, but their ice cream was all fantastic. I got the s'mores and triple chocolate with a cookie piece (pictured). The s'mores was the best I've ever had, and the triple chocolate was rich and had cake chunks in it. My boyfriend got the goat cheese and fig, which was surprisingly delicious and savory. We live in the neighborhood, and are so excited they have a punch card for pints - but 5, get one free! We are excited to make scoop our usual spot for ice cream from now on read more

This is one of my favorite ice cream places of all time! Their flavors are so unique and they change out regularly! Lovely location to sit outside and chat. I come here all the time and all of the flavors I have tried are fresh and delicious. The pricing is fair for how much quality ice cream you receive and you can pick two flavors in your cup- but you'll have a hard time picking just two! They also have fresh baked waffle cones and cookies etc. A must do in Richmond! read more

However, I've never had a flavor from there that I've really loved, because I feel like all the flavors have too much sugar in them. A super cute & yummy ice cream shop that also has baked goods (brownies, bloodied, cookies) they you can pick up already baked or frozen to back at home - they even have take & bake croissants! In addition, they have pints (rotate regularly) that you can take home and a pints reward club. The mini macarons are just,,,, adorable. And yummy! The ice cream flavors are good and honestly the perfect amount of sweet while not going overboard in sweetness. I've had the Confetti Cake (I think that's what it's called - vanilla w sprinkles a la du fett & cake bits) and the Bananas Foster. My boyfriend was also a huge fan! I'd say from what I've seen as far as flavor options go the part 2-3 times I've been, there are other places in RVA that offer a wider variety of dairy-free or vegan ice cream flavors, but Scoops does also have a few! Scoop was on my summer visit list for way too long! First of all, it's located on Strawberry Street, which I think is just perfect in and of itself, but secondly, it's curb appeal is undeniable. As you walk toward it, the first thing you see is an inviting ice cream cone sign hinged to the side of the building and then you're greeted with a bold, pink door with pink lettering that says, "Scoop." Inside, the exposed brick, letter board signage, and illuminated, "Let's Spoon" sign let you know this is most definitely a RVA ice cream shop. I tried the brown sugar cookie dough ice cream and roasted strawberry flavors and ultimately went with the roasted strawberry with rainbow sprinkles. Both flavors were decadent and creamy, but on such a hot day I went for the lighter fare. Strawberry ice cream has been my favorite flavor since I was a kid, so I've had a significant amount of it from different shops and brands and I was still thoroughly impressed with Scoop's version. It was creamy, but still managed to be light and they didn't skimp on the strawberries! I will 100% be going back, especially since they give you a cute rewards card, which gets ya a free cone after a certain amount of visits (totally worth it). Ambience: combination of hipster, minimalist, and cutesy without overdoing the pink. Parking: street parking available. Price: ($) average for a small ice cream parlor that promises quality. Presentation: I mean, it's ice cream...can you go wrong here? Taste: creamy, light, rich flavors, quality waffle cone that held up until the end. UPDATE: I've been to Scoop twice since writing this initial review and never waited more than 5 minutes in line. Customer service was friendly and helpful each time and I've had 4 different flavors....all delicious. Yes, it's a small space, but most people don't stay, so it's not a big deal. Fantastic vegan coconut ice cream! The mint cookies and cream was just alright- no better than ice cream from the grocery store. I think the vegan flavors are what really set this place apart. Another note: you can't really sit and eat inside. It's basically a tiny concrete box, so there are minimal chairs and sound echoes like crazy. A whining child waiting in line suddenly becomes extremely amplified. Luckily it's located in a good walking neighborhood. Would love to see this place stick around. read more

I'd give it 5 stars if not for being a tiny bit overpriced. Other than that, it really hits all the marks. They mix up their flavors a lot which keeps me coming back and they're always incredible. It can get crowded on the weekends but it moves quickly, unless they're understaffed. But they've got lots of flavor options and even accommodate to the GF and vegan crowd. Who doesn't love ice cream? With the warm weather here to stay for the next few months I was needing a little sweet pick me up after a long day of work. My coworker came here after finding out that the geniuses behind Whisk and their amazing macaroons also own Scoop. Scoop is a quaint and cute shop, tucked on Strawberry Street. With it being our first time, we sampled several flavors to find out which one would tickle our fancy. I was hoping for a strawberry flavored ice cream(my favorite), unfortunately they weren't serving it yet, so I ended up with 2 scoops of confetti ice cream in a fresh, waffle cone. The ice cream was creamy, and filled with pieces of moist, funfetti cake. Every lick took me a little closer to Dessert Heaven. I was in love! I savored every precious moment with that ice cream, and when it ended my heart was filled with longing. I will be returning to Scoop when the strawberry ice cream makes it seasonal debut to satisfy my sweet tooth and beat the heat. read more

Best waffle cones I've ever had! I normally am not a huge fan but they had some cinnamon and weren't too crunchy or too soft, but what else is to be expected from the owners of Whisk! All of the ice cream samples I got to try were tasty but ended up going with earl grey ice cream which went so good with the cone. The girls up front were also super friendly! Maybe it's because I'm used to really creamy dairy farm ice cream but this place bummed me out. I made a special trip out here for ice cream after dinner and was lucky to get a cone before the store closed. I was super excited for the unique flavors. I got the brown sugar cookie dough and the corn and blackberry. The cookie dough scoop had one chunk of cookie dough, which was sorely disappointing. The worst was that the corn ice cream was freezer burned. The scoops were quite small as well. The best part was the cone which had a hint of cinnamon to it. The inside has a cute hipster neon sign that's good for pictures but overall, I probably won't be back. read more

The good: So, the greatest part about this place is the service and the flavor choices. The person who helped us was very sweet and was extremely patient. They started conversation with us outside of just ice cream, that's always nice to know people care past just trying to get a tip (our transaction had ended so they were just nice). They are extremely ambitious with their flavors, having things like "croissants and jam", "brown sugar cookie dough" and "confetti". The flavors were so unique and the waffle cone was just sweet enough and tasted fresh. They had a few other things for sale other than ice cream too: I noticed cookies, cinnamon rolls and pints. That's pretty cool! The meh: Even though they have a ton of flavors, I really didn't want any of them. Call me a purist, but I really feel like every ice cream shop should at least serve vanilla and plain chocolate. I ended up going with the brown sugar cookie dough and after we've already paid I realize there's chocolate. I sampled it and there was not a hint of chocolate. I'm not allergic to chocolate so it was fine but I... really don't like it and ended up spitting the pieces out. I felt like I couldn't really enjoy my scoop because I was just waiting for the what tastes to me burnt (this is because my hate for chocolate, not a comment on their chocolate). The Bad: The ice cream was pretty hard and not creamy how Id prefer and it was pretty overpriced. A mini scoop (which was definitely mini) was $3.10! Other local shops you can a much larger size for the same price (and they have vanilla). The atmosphere... I don't wanna say "sucks" but it isn't inviting.... it's bright but it feels pretty sterile and there's no music playing. Only one person in the front, which again, yeah they were nice but it felt weird. All in all I wouldn't NOT go again... but it wouldn't be my first choice. I have to be honest, I am surprised by how much I loved this place. I've been really fangirling over North End's ice cream so I figured I'd try Scoop once and continue my weekly jaunts down to North End. But my god, this place is amazing. First off, the shop is visually appealing. It's like the Glossier of the ice cream world, with all the minimalist pink and white. But the real stunner is the ice cream. There were SO many delicious choices to choose from. Ended up doing the sampler and tried the croissant and jam, coffee and the roasted strawberry. They were all amazing. Other flavors included rhubarb crisp, confetti, vegan coconut and brown sugar cookie. Scoop also makes their own cones in house and does build your own ice cream sandwiches. When I saw a woman with ice cream smashed between two giant macaroons, I almost fell out of my chair. And I don't even like macaroons. Definitely give this place a go. Since it just opened, the line was crazy long, but hopefully that will die down soon. read more

I stopped by Scoop for some cool refreshment on a cold January night, and boy am I glad I did! To me, a quality ice cream shop should be judged by 2 criteria: 1) Great ice cream & 2) Friendly service. Scoop gets 5 stars for each of these! Kudos to the young woman who scooped for us...I really appreciated your positive attitude and congeniality. After sampling several flavors, I settled on the spiced golden milk with gingerbread. Yum! The consistency was super creamy and the flavor well balanced. I regret that I did not visit Scoop sooner...unfortunately, I wasted money and calories at Charm School during my Richmond trip. In contrast to Scoop, Charm School's employees were unfriendly and unprofessional & the ice cream was cloyingly sweet with an icy texture: hardly charming...a better name for the business would be 'Reform School'. read more

4 star ice cream with some 2 star disadvantages give Scoop an average 3 star rating. Ice cream is very good and I give them props for that. I love ice cream and was excited that a new local place opened with some homemade hard ice cream instead of frozen yogurt. However, the scoops are rather small, and the ice cream is overpriced. So it's a little sad to pay that much and then look in your bowl and see you didn't get much. Customer service is mediocre and they limit how many ice creams you can try to three before buying. Which, being my first time I'd have to liked to try one other before deciding. Lastly, only cone option they have is waffle cone, which is expensive, and also - I don't like waffle cones, so I had to get a cup. read more
