This place is great! I got my first scooter - a 1971 Vespa Rally 180 - from Vespa Haus back in the late 90s. As much as I liked that spot in the alleyway, it never felt like a "real" shop -- it was more like a dude that fixed scooters was your neighbor. And my bike never worked properly. Zoom ahead 20+ years and... I went in to the shop to check out the Royal Alloy line, hoping they had an elusive 300 (they did). I ended up buying it new, and Rick and his team set me up with a battery tender and wiring, installed a back rest, and will be doing a performance exhaust upgrade as soon as the pipe is available. They've been communicative, proactive, are always super friendly, and run a shop that is a legitimate shop! Excellent selection of used scooters, too. Solid shop, but make sure to check that your written estimates matches the verbal estimate. I've taken my Suzuki GSXR 600 here fore a few oil changes, and recently had them do a chain and sprocket install. While they're usually a bit pricier than other shops, they're local to Sac and a quick walk from home which saves on arranging rides back and forth. The shop vibe is great and the employees have always been friendly and helpful. Most shops quoted 1.5-2hrs and anywhere from $200-$250 for my chain and sprocket install. Scooter City came in on the higher end ($250), but I decided to move forward with the work. I dropped off the bike and signed the estimate. Picked up the bike later that day and everything looked great. They also offered a free chain adjustment once I'd put 100 miles on the bike to adjust any slack, which was appreciated! While the work itself was done well, I noticed that the charge on my credit statement was higher than the $250 I was originally quoted over the phone. I double checked the written estimate and I realized it was for $350 ($100 more than I expected). This was 100% my fault for not double checking the estimate before signing. I dropped by the shop to see if there was anything to be done, but they confirmed the written estimate and final cost were correct, so I'm eating the $100 as a learning experience. Overall, I'd still recommend Scooter City for their work and customer service. Just make sure you double check that your in-person estimate matches the phone estimate you're given before signing it! read more

I went to Scooter City to help my sister buy her first scooter and had a great experience. My sister wanted to custom order a SYM Fiddle II and Devin was very helpful in walking us through the ordering process and continued providing great customer service even as it took us a while to complete the motorcycle license training and pick up the scooter. Once she was ready to ride, Devin delivered her new scooter at her house so she didn't have to arrange a ride to the shop. In addition to good friendly customer service, this place happens to also be a goldmine of coolness with vintage boat motors, old racing art, and classic sports cars just hanging out with the various scooters - just because. Rick and his team do amazing work. They are the ONLY crew in town that would fix my 2003 Honda Ruckus. Not even Honda would help. He's honest with timing (he doesn't blow smoke saying, "it'll be ready tomorrow" if it's not going to be). I've always had my Vespa S 150 and Honda Metropolitan serviced here and definitely recommend. Service rates seem high, but I think worth the quality of work and knowledge of the staff. You should call a few days in advance to make a service appointment because seems like they are always pretty busy and full. I'm not in the market for a new scooter, but I do wish they had a bigger selection of new bikes. I guess there's not much demand in Sacramento? I would definitely order a new scooter with them, though, if I was in the market. read more

Save yourself the heartache and avoid this shop! I was quoted $1300 to repair some minor issues needing repair on my motorcycle. He refused to hold the bike while waiting for parts to be ordered and improperly patched things up instead. When I asked if we could order the parts he said "I don't know". He then said no to ordering parts because he didnt want to hold the bike in his shop. Not one issue was repaired as agreed upon on the work order. They allegedly worked on areas of the bike (which could not be verified)) unrelated to what was listed out for repair on the work order. When I picked it up none of the items listed for repair were actually repaired and it still wasn't running from the electrical short he was to fix. A total scam and rip off. He stole $1260. This was a painful lesson for me. Avoid this shop for your own good. read more

Just rarely I write a review..especially a negative one. But this really deserve to be brought to attention. On a mechanic friend recommendation I took my bike to this shop for some gear box problem. I was told Mike, the owner or I believe so, was a passionate and professional. Unfortunately Mike was not there anymore.That day they had a car for sale..a car I wanted since I was 17. 15k may be a small sum for these 'gentleman' but for a normal person is a lump sum. So the day after I email them to ask for detail info about it. The associate takes few days to reply..he has to rack his mind because he doesn t remember?! First significant sign. I reply with a list of questions everyone would ask before to purchase a car. The gentleman takes over 10 days to reply..'are you still interested?'..that s it..no info once so ever. Ok..forget about the car..if he is not on it means he really doesn t want to sell it or the car is a wreck. It has been 3 weeks now and I decide to contact Rick..the supposed expert in this kind of bikes and the one who took after Mike and..surprise. he took the bike for a short ride and he had problems shifting the gears so he believes the gears are all mashed and shoots out the incredible price of up to 5500 to fix it. The late 40's Rick with his hipster black hat, the large black tshirt and the baggy jeans..like he got stuck in his teens, didn t inspire much of confidence or professionality to start with..but I had no idea he was also so dishonest. I decided to take my bike back. On my way back to Forestville with the bike on the trailer I stopped to 2 mechanics I know to ask for a quote on the job..just out of curiosity. I know these shops but I decided to take the bike in Sacramento cause the shops I know had very long wait times. The worst scenario case was to replace completely the gear box..for the very top cost of 1300. It makes sense..the whole bike restoration cost 6k. Now..here what pro Rick though..'I don t really know how or want to fix this bike..this Francesco here is a naïve one and he didn t buy the car..but he has money to spend so..instead of being honest and tell him I would rather not to work on his bike..i will ask for an astronomic price..if he accepts I will put in my pocket a good 4500 clean..if he says no I still win cause I don t really want to fix it. Never been in the market for a scooter before but as I was walking around downtown one day I came across scooter city. The sales person mike was very welcoming and friendly. He informed me about the quality of their bikes as compared to some of the inferior Chinese made scooters a lot of people seem to buy. I didn't know much when I came in but I left feeling educated and possibly interested in buying a scooter. The shop was laid out nicely and very clean. They do repairs on scooters/ bikes as well and are very straight forward about the cost and expectations of each repair. I would recommend this establishment to anyone interested in a new scooter or bike. They are closed Sunday's and Monday's but are open on Saturdays which is nice for people who work during the week. I walked into this place today with my wife. We were two of three total customers in this place. There was one staff member. He barely aknowledged us and went back to his one customer. We waited 20+ minutes before my wife just got tired of waiting so we said good bye and left. You would at the very least think the staff member would have said "I'm sorry, is there anything I can help you with"? Or "can I point you in the right direction"?. Nope! He just waved back us with a smile, laughed and went back to his customer. Talk about not having a clue on how to multitask. My wife and I will never return to this horrible place and we, today, purchased three brand new scooters from ATV Wholesale off Auburn road. Very disappointed in the way this shop does business. In March 2016 I brought my scooter there to be sold on consignment. It sat for months and months. I came in on a Saturday to lower the price and magically within 2 hours got a call that there was a buyer. So, delivered the title and made the transaction. The sale was made on Saturday and had to wait until the following Thursday to be paid my portion of the sale. When I got the check, I deposited it and then used a portion of the money to purchase a new corbin seat for new motorcycle I purchased. The beginning of the next week got a notice from my bank that the check Scooter City gave me bounced. My bank charged me NSF fees as well. I called Scooter City back and after another day or two, they did make restitution and also paid the overdraft fees. I had decided to let that go and didn't mention this to anyone. I felt that mistakes can happen and they did make it good. (Mind you that meant several more trips down to their store and I don't live nearby.) The reason I am writing this review though is because I just found out that they NEVER filled out the release of liability that they assured me over and over was taken care of. At the time of the sale I asked for the new owner information so I could go online and take care of the release. I was assured that no, I didn't need to worry about it. They would handle all the paperwork for me when they do the title transfer, etc. During the course of that week and a half, the time it took me to get the original check and the cash to replace that check, I asked at least 3 more times about the release of liability. Every single time I was told it was taken care of and not to worry about it. A month or so later I got the registration in the mail and decided that DMV sent it to me in error and that the paperwork just hadn't been updated. Imagine my surprise when I was at DMV paying a different registration and I asked about the scooter one. They said NO RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM was ever filed and that I am liable for everything still. I cannot express how unhappy I am that I was continually lied to and put into a position of a possible lawsuit. Lesson learned for me. NEVER EVER trust a business to do what they promise. I will never recommend this shop to friends. I will not shop there again. I can tell you this is the first time I have ever done a yelp review of a business and it makes me sad to do so but feel the need to warn others. Don't trust them at their word. read more
