Left the oil out of my transmission during a oil change blew my bike up took no responsibility

The first 3 times I went to them they left bolts off or hanging out of the primary side case. He grumbles and comes out with a wrench and tightens it. Like its my fault or something. Twice they removed and reinstalled the transmission and seals and it still leaks. The first hydraulic clutch cable exploded after a week and they said it was my fault. The second hydraulic line was installed by the kid trainee, but the wiring and cables were catching on each other on the way home. Turning was choppy and noisy. The clutch lever/mirror clamp wasn't tightened and when you grabbed the clutch lever, it flopped up and down. They obviously did not test drive it. I went to the dealer and they showed me the proper routing instructions readily available online. They were so lazy they couldn't even look them up. 1 million Harleys have clutch lines routed the same way. The only thing they are good for is tires and I won't go back there for that, either. I'll gladly pay 50 bucks more per axle at the dealer to get tires put on. At least the fasteners will be torqued properly and parts won't be missing or damaged. The dealer cleans your bike when he's done. These guys put grease fingerprints everywhere and don't clean any parts unless they are internal (I hope). CHECK FOR LOOSE PARTS, FASTENERS AND IMPROPERLY ROUTED CABLES AND LINES. read more

I neglected my 1994 883 because I bought a Softail Slim a few years ago, has been sitting for a couple of years. After installing new battery, new plugs and draining the gas tank, it would not start. I suspected the carburetor needed to be rebuilt. I called Harley of Sacramento and I was told they don't work on bikes older than 10 years old, they recommended Midcal. Midcal gave me estimate over the phone for a carb rebuild, very good price. They fixed in a matter of days. They showed me the clogged jets. Great customer service. I brought my bike to them to install heated hand grips, and what should have been a simple and easy installation turned into an ordeal because of previous unrelated work done by another shop. Bruce and Joe had to call to get new wiring harnesses, rewire the harness through the handlebars, and clean up some sloppy wiring. In the end, they were able to get the job done RIGHT and PROPERLY. They also installed a new adjustable clutch lever and were kind enough to clean my chrome pipes with some steel wool where my pants got burnt on them. This is perhaps the worst and most appalling excuse for a business , I can't believe they are actually still open. I was sworn at by the owner / manager Joe and told to take my business elsewhere after they failed to fix my 1977 Shovelhead after the third return and at a cost of 2,500 dollars to have my bike still not running and in the same shape I took it to them in. Not only did they fail to fix my bike and overcharge me they kept it for over 2 months to fix a simple starting problem. They are perhaps the worlds worst businessmen . taking it back for the third time yesterday , i was accused of sabotaging my own bike and was spoken to in such a horrendous foul derogatory manner that I have contacted a lawyer to start proceedings in a lawsuit for slander and wrongful business practices ......PLEASE EVERYBODY STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS. read more

Last week, I called several shops for advice on a new set of tires for my 1996 BMW R850R. No shop had a matching set of tires on hand, but the guy who answered the phone at Midcal checked his inventory twice and spent some time on the computer to see if he could order what I needed. When he came up empty, he suggested buying the tires online and having the shop install them. I had already done some research and asked for his opinion on the Pirelli Angel GTs I was favoring. We talked pros and cons on tires I was buying from someone else! I scheduled an appointment and brought my tires in. During a ride the previous week, a friend mentioned my rear brake pads looked like they needed replacing. So I asked Midcal to check it out and replace if needed. Later that day, my bike is ready and I'm told my brake pads are practically brand new. They could have just said it needed to be done. It turned out it really wasn't worth fixing because of what it would cost. so they ended up just buying the bike off of me, which saved me a huge hassle. Took my road glide in to be FIXED for the 2nd and 4th gears were slipping. They charged $270 for diagnostic, $589 for clutch kit, $67 to tighten 2 riser bolts, $67 to put on a $3 bracket, overfilled my oil, put a hole in my exaust, put a used filter on my bike, kept my bike for 4 weeks, and had the gall to charge me $1000. They called saying my bike was ready, stating it was test driven, I started my bike after paying, didn't even make it out the driveway, only had 1 operational gear, my bike was smoking and knocking as if they intentionally ran it hot. They intentionally over filled my bike with oil, in which overfilling it makes it smoke. They put a hole in my exaust, for whatever reasons, not to mention my saddle bags were loose. Paint was chipped up, cracked and used air filter and cover, but were charged $272 for new filter and cover. First off any shop that does any diagnosis would know what to exactly what to fix. Second these people really don't want to see US on Harley Davidson bikes. Third they're all liers. Yes I did get a full refund that same day, but my bike absolutely came in this shop better than it left. Had to get my bike towed from that place... My advice, if you're an African American be prepared to be overcharged, crappy work, and lied to. DO NOT GO TO MID CAL MOTORCYCLE. You'll be sorry! read more

Brought my new set of enforcer wheels to get bearing pressed in and new set of tires. I dropped them off and they had them finished for me pretty quick. I took them home and before installing them I compared them to my old wheels (bearing depth) same style wheels. They were not similar to my old wheels so I called the shop and let them. I was told to bring them along with old wheels to get a better idea of where they should be. I did that and they again finished them for me pretty quick. I installed the wheels alone with some brand new chrome rotors and on the first ride I destroyed my new rotors because the alignment of the bearing were not correct. I fixed the depth issue myself on the front tire where it no longer made contact with the caliper. I rode my bike 50-100 miles with no issues to the front but I recently removed my saddle bags and found that the rear bearing is also not properly aligned Wich caused my pads to wear prematurely and ruin my rear rotor because of the constant contact. I didn't bring this up to there attention because that would be the third time redoing work and I don't believe it would be fixed. I am just putting my experience out there. I have a 14 street glide special. One thing they did do for me was go out of their way to get spacers needed for my bike. That is why I added a star. But if they aren't capable of doing the repair they could advise customers and save them a headache and money. read more

Newly opened but in W. Sac many years, MidCal is a local business we can all be proud of. My brother, a longtime rider from San Diego, was visiting us recently when his 1998 vintage Harley developed an oil leak on the trip here. He was very concerned because Harley dealerships don't maintain parts and resist working on a bike this old. I recall seeing MidCal and suggested he call them. Mike at MidCal said he'd diagnose the problem for a very reasonable price and apply that to the final bill if he could repair it. The bike was left in the morning and by mid-afternoon was fixed. They had the faulty part in stock and my brother had his bike back in hours. It would have been days at a Harley store and probably double or triple what he paid. Mike is skilled, honest, and very easy to deal with. He's also a very good neighbor (the parking issues with the post office are not his fault, despite what you might have heard) and deserves your support. read more

I recently had them do a big job that took a few weeks, and they communicated regularly to give me updates. They had me come in and see what they were talking about and walked me through their processes. They also gave me options throughout the process to try to save me money and get me back on the road as soon as possible.
