Got some greats beers from this brewery in Algonquin. It probably is the best thing about this town, or, it's what people know most about it. Scorched Earth is one of the main hangouts on weekends. A good amount of beers to choose from. There's a pretty big variety on tap. Coming here early in the afternoon, and it was already busy. It's a brewery that's also family friendly. That means it's okay to bring kids, which is getting increasingly common for breweries it seems. A lot of interesting sounding ones on the list. It's about $7 a pint. Pretty okay for locally owned and produced. Best of the ones we had was the Wunderpilz, a German style pilsner that was light. It's got no food in here except $5 tubs of Von Hanson's Pretzels. Has more when food trucks are here. There's usually one on site. Has a pretty hidden location off Algonquin Road on Berg. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There's food trucks on weekends. read more

My wife and I attended this location for some drinks. I enjoyed their beers as my wife enjoyed the cider. Keep in mind cider, isn't theirs but it was still good. I had a variety of the beers and they were all very good. I'd highly recommend stopping in and giving this place a try. The second and fourth Saturday of every month they have a yoga class in the warehouse area at 11:00 am. The cost is $25 and you get a beer or beer flight after the class. I enjoyed the yoga class. It was a very relaxed vibe. There are a lot of beer selections. I saw a basic food menu. And they have food trucks on some days. The brewery is big with an eclectic decor. I'll be back. read more

Scorched Earth truly has a beer option for everyone. Their menu is pretty large, but not overwhelming. The brewery itself has lots of seating options, but I wish some of their chairs / seats had backs. Is that really showing my age? am I the old lady at the brewery now? Also love the outdoor patio area - it doesn't feel like we're in a little industrial park. Each person who we've talked to there is passionate about the beer & has always had great suggestions. I personally think they excel the most in their IPA area. They don't serve food but almost always have some sort of food truck, at least on the weekends. Last but not least, the bathrooms actually smelled GOOD. I know that's a tough thing to accomplish at a brewery, so had to call it out. Love this place! read more

Stopped by and saw they were celebrating their 10 year anniversary. Outdoor seating was plentiful on a beautiful fall afternoon and a Philippine food truck provided a delicious a basket of lumpia (a rare treat). Just discovered this brewery and I love it. So many events happening here! Trivia on Thursday, Saturday yoga, music bingo on Wednesday, and just plain comfortable vibe. The staff knows their beer too. The Hickster (cream ale), and the Cinnamon Apple French Toast, and the Blueprint are yummy! Love the smaller size option that is available for tasting. Cool area with lights at night. Yesterday they had someone grilling on the patio. Getting together a group to do trivia there is fun. The questions are not too hard, but are challenging enough! Love the change up of the Food trucks there and live music on the weekend. Food Truck by The Curious Crow was there on Mom's Day, had a great time with my son trying out beers and food. This is one of the many breweries along the Fox River Trail that I frequent. I normally sit outside with my bike in their beer garden or along the parkway. Very relaxing surroundings even though it's located in a small industrial area. They have a wide variety of beer styles on-tap or, occasionally, from can pours. Very friendly staff that seem pretty knowledgeable of the beer. The taproom is clean and spacious. Apparently, they don't take cash (according to some 1-star review) but, TBH, who really carries cash anymore? On my rides, I bring my DL (for when I get carded as a 61 year old), my insurance card (for if I get hit by something), and a credit card (to purchase tasty beverages). read more

I have been getting into the craft breweries. It wasn't too long ago I hated the taste of beer but I can say that this is no longer the case. I like this one so much I came two nights in a row. Night 1 i had Life's A Peach (fruited Ale) and liked it so much I came home with a growler. On night 2 I had to try their new Stout (Bonfire S'Mores) and a few IPA's Flipmode and We Got 5 On It (IPA Milkshake): both were awesome but the IPA Milkshake was amazing (among best beers I have liked). They have a food truck out front, Night 2 had live music, on Night 1 we brought in food and ate it there. This place is close to us and we will be here often. read more

Very nice brewery I visited for the first time tonight. Great selection and variety of craft beers. I really liked the Agent Ya-Kuza which was a matcha nitro milk stout. They also offered a variety of sours which you don't find often (according to my beer connoisseur friend who came along with me). Definitely worth checking out in Algonquin. Great brewery with outside seating and perfect location if you are ever riding fox river trail. There is even a sign and new road made especially for cyclists to go there for a refreshing glass of beer. This was our first time there but definitely not the last. Loved Scorched Earth! This is the quintessential type of brewery I think of when I think of super chill breweries with good beer and a good mixed group. I feel in love with Nashville because their breweries are just that and Scorched Earth really reminded me of a Nashville brewery. One of the best things about Scorched Earth is the variety of beers. They not only have the usual APA, IPA and Porters...but you'll find a sour and a smoked beer. I love smoked and sours with all of my being and was so pleased to see these on the menu. Hickster American Cream Ale - Seems to be their signature beer. My friend loved this one. I thought it was aiight. Others I've tried were the Public Servant Rye Pale Ale, Rugged Coalmine Porter, Base Jumper IPA, Crypt Keeper Pumpkin Spice Ale, The Bitter Chocolatier chocolate oatmeal stout and the Night Hound an American Dark Ale. My favorites were the Foraging Swine - a smoked ale! I love smokey beers and this one did not disappoint. I also love sours so their Der Sommer Besitzer was just my speed. $10 for a 6 sampler flight of beers and the night I went they had 9 beers on tap which meant I got to have three of my favorite beers twice...nomz! $21.55 was my total to try out 12 beers + tip of course. Scorched Earth seems to usually have food trucks on Saturday evenings though when my friend and I went, the truck cancelled last minute! We were so sad but thankfully they keep a binder of all the local delivery places so we utilized that to order some dinner. Scorched Earth is super laid back and chill with good clientele, good people on staff a nice mixture of bar seating, long communal seating, high 4 tops and a couple of comfy chairs in the back by their shuffleboard. I tend to house-sit up this way every few months and will make sure to always have this be a stop for me. read more

You will catch us here on Thursday nights playing PubUSA trivia. It is fun and it is free so you should make plans to join us! Scorched Earth has many different styles of beer. There is something for everyone. Right now, they debuted a Maibock. It is delicious. Since it has been unseasonably hot, I enjoyed the Berliner Weiss yesterday. So excellent. They have an oatmeal stout called the Bitter Chocolatier that everyone should try as well as the Crypt Keeper. a year round pumpkin spice favorite. This place hits all the notes for craft beer fans. You kinda have to know where it is or you might not know it is even there. Excellent decor (I love the black pipe furnishings and reclaimed/industrial stylings). The long tables can accommodate a nice-sized group. Numerous stools at the bar if you are solo or with one or two friends. Friendly staff. Clean. Fun vibe. Trivia Night on Thursdays is a blast with friends (Come and challenge team "Science!"). The beer is outstanding. Good variety, and it changes frequently. My only wish is that they make an amber ale and a classic weiss (not so much fruit). I asked if they had an amber, and the bartender said "Does anyone brew ambers any more?" Why yes, they do. Luckily they have plenty more to choose from on tap. Scorched Earth leans more to the eclectic side of the craft spectrum, and for folks who love beer that pushes the envelope regarding flavor profiles, this place is heaven. Bring your own food, or order delivery, and the delivery folks will bring your order inside. Sal's Pizza is a perfect complement to the beer here. Second, I thought they have been around forever. As it turns out, this great little brewery is only a few miles from me. That made my day. I'll be stopping in to fill my growler now that I know. I stopped in here on a Saturday. I had the Rye Pale Ale and the Berliner Weisse. Both were excellent beers. This is the best brewery in McHenry County right now. Definitely worth checking out. They also have shuffleboard, which is a nice plus. I stopped back a second time and had the rest of the beers on tap. All good. I highly recommend this brewery. So, I've been here a handful of times now and had almost all of their beers. Everything has been excellent. I still think this is the best brewery in the county and hope it will continue to be so. My favorite beers from Scorched Earth are the Hickster Cream Ale, the Public Servant Rye Pale Ale, the Der Sommer Besitzer Berliner Weisse, and the Rugger Coalminer Porter. Both of the IPAs and the smoked ale are very good as well. The bar has picnic table style seating right where you enter. This area is good for sitting with a group and bringing your own food or ordering a pizza from down the road. The bar has a handful of seats. There are also some comfy chairs in the corner. Husband and I were too tired and it was too damn hot to make the trek to 3 Floyds, so we decided to try a more "local" brewery (even though it was about 45 mins away). I've had Scorched Earth brews before at my local sports bar and thought they had some pretty solid beers. We got here and first tried the flight. It was pretty reasonable too: I think it was $10 or $12 for 6 beers, and you got to pick which ones you wanted. The standouts for us were Saint Monty and Maibock. After that, we had more than a few more full sized beers. I believe they are $5 per pint, which is competitive with other breweries in the area. There was also an acoustic set by the very friendly and talented Erik Peter Schwartz. All in all, a great place to hang out and make some friends. Don't forget to bring a sandwich from the sub shop down the street. You'll need the grease and carbs to soak up all the alcohol. read more

Exceeded expectations. I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of this brewery, as it's in walking distance from home, and after my first visit a few days ago, I'm very happy. They had a kolsch, a saison, a rye pale ale, and a porter on tap. I enjoyed all four, and took a half growler of the porter home. It looks like they'll have some rotating in the taps, and I'm very excited about their marzen and pumpkin beers that are coming up! The owner also talked a lot about some sours that he's working on, so there's a lot to look forward to here. The tap room is beautiful, featuring reclaimed wood from around the county, and is much larger than you'd expect from the outside. They have ample bar space along with several tables if you're with a group. It has a sort of open industrial feel too, as you can see the brewing area from the tap room.
