Located in downtown East Dundee,this Independent Craft Brewery serves great beers! Nice variety of Lagers,IPAs,Stouts,Sours and Ales. I started with their light lager - Bike Path which as described was very light.only 3.7 ABV. My favorite beer was Monkey Wrench..a smooth Vanilla Porter 6 ABV. A few weekends ago, we hosted my brother's 30th birthday at Black and Gray and it was absolutely perfect. Black And Gray is a brewery in East Dundee. It has a pretty good selection after being open a few years and building it. While it may be on the expensive side, it's high quality. Fewer batches are made. They put more care into these. Came recently for a night cap. It was fairly busy but not that much so we could get seats at the bar and try a few. The one I liked the most was Gentleman Joe. It's about $8 a pint for most beers. That's quite a lot. Anyway, this was a good beer. It's an American IPA. This is a pretty strong one too. It doesn't have much food. They only have those bags of Boardwalk Pretzels. It's $6 a bag. The beer is already expensive, so forget about also shelling out for pretzels. Find this in the space that's next to D.C. Cobb's. It's nice to hit one then the other. That's hardly affordable though. read more

Such a large space! It was pretty empty on a Saturday afternoon. We tried a sour and one of their ipas. The sour was delicious! They have 25+ choices on their menu so something to please anyone. Excellent service!!!! In this day and age, good service can really tip the scales in favor if a business, even if there are other deficits. Black and Gray is blessed with a wonderful staff. We were there for a private party, which I believe they do a lot of, so we had the place to ourselves most of the night. The bar is cool and they offer the option to bring in food which is nice. I had a hard time finding a beer I loved, I tried many, but never settled on something I wanted twice. Regardless, the rotate their taps frequently enough that I will check them out again to try and find the right beer for my palate because the owners and bartenders are so great. This is one of the many breweries along the Fox River Trail. It's probably the closest to the actual trail of all the others! I've been riding up there since they opened. The taproom was on the smallish side originally but they recently expanded and more than doubled their space. I tend to sit outside on their patio which has a lot of seating with most tables having umbrellas. I like to "people watch" as there always seems to be something going on in the plaza where the brewery is located. They have a wide selection of beer styles available and with the recent taproom expansion, more handles to pour from meaning more drafts to try. read more

I was part of a group that held a fundraiser here and I don't have the words to describe how special this place is, so I won't try. The beer is fantastic, they have such a great variety of styles so everyone in your group will be able to find something they like. From sours to stouts and lagers to IPAs, I tried them all and they were all delicious. The staff went above and beyond and every turn. They do have a wide selection of beers from Stouts to IPAs to Lagers. If your not a beer drinker, its ok; They also have Cider in cans. I've visited Black and Grey twice. The first time was a few days after they opened, and I tried four of their beers. I wish I had kept track of which ones I had, but they were all good. The place wasn't too busy, but I'm reasonably sure that it was a Thursday at around 4. The second time was the day before St Patrick's Day, and the place was packed. I tried 3 more beers this day. Working Class Hero (IPA) = great. NINA (Stout)=fantastic. The Aunty Red was really the only brew I have had from Black and Grey that I wasn't particularly high on. Which was odd because Red Ales are generally my favorite style, but maybe I was being picky because Reds are my favorite. They have my business. I like the beer and I like the spot. Not only would I gladly recommend it, but I have already brought friends along. I'm looking forward to seeing what it is like in the summer. read more

Good music and fun games! Our group of four was here for opening day, and we really enjoyed our time together. They have a wonderful assortment of games for the patrons to play, and Duke's BBQ was catering a tasty menu on-site. We tried a couple of beer flights which were good, but I hope they eventually have a little more variety. I always love when a brewery offers a fruit beer or a cider! The bathrooms were very clean and there was plenty of parking nearby. The staff seemed really great and we hope they continue to grow and be successful! read more

I'm so mad we moved out of West Dundee before this place opened! We were back in town recently and we were very happy with how the downtown area has changed. We sat up at the bar and service was outstanding, even on a busy weekend night. We were able to try samples of whatever we wanted and we started with a flight. The beer here is very well-rounded and there are options for everyone. The location is perfect for date night as there are many restaurants nearby all within walking distance. This brewery is by far my favorite and the absolute best! We had their Kölsch andNew England IPA and a Dunkel. All were top notch!! Walked into Black and Gray for the first time last night and let me say it will now be one of my "go-to" spots! As soon as our group walked into the door, Ben, the beer tender introduced himself and gave us some knowledge on the place. He offered to give us samples of whatever we wanted to try before ordering! I ordered the "Scarlet" and it was fantastic! Other drinks that our group tried that were equally fantastic: Minuteman, Mosaic, & Original Sin Pear Cider. There is no food menu, but Ben offered us some "snacks" which was a Chex-like mix that was very yummy! While enjoying the snacks and drinks, Paige (also a beertender) checked up on our group and was so sweet! Black and Gray has a ton of board games to choose from use while you're drinking! They have "Buy Your Buddy A Beer" for $5 you can buy a beer for anyone who's not in the taproom and they will write their name on the board! What a great find! We happened upon this brewery and lucked upon a cool town, with an awesome bike trail, and a great brewery! We are not IPA drinkers, but loved every thing else we tried. Unlike most breweries, the brown was good and tasty. We liked the malty finish on the farmhand. And they know how to brew a good Oktoberfest. Best yet, we met Teresa, one of the owners, and she was super friendly--even to our dogs. We will be back. Welcoming, clean, fun place serving up a great selection. :) read more

I've been waiting patiently since the sign first appeared on the new development in downtown East Dundee. Fortunately, it's worth the wait. This is a brew pub - not a restaurant/brewery like Emmet's, but a place that will live and die because of the quality of their beer. If their grand opening is any indication, their future looks bright. They currently have 6 beers on draft, 2 IPA's, a creme ale, saison, lager and blonde. We sampled the IPA's, creme ale and saison. Our favorite was the New England IPA (Minuteman), but all of the beers showed a level of competence that makes it likely I'll return. Not my favorite brewery in the Fox Valley (Penrose is still my gold medal winner) - but at lot closer and a few steps from the river path. I have a feeling they might know me by name before long. read more

Came across this brewery when Our first plans didn't work out this Mother's Day, very nice brewery, clean, outside seating, and lots of beer choices. No food served but we were told it's no problem ordering from surrounding restaurants, we met the owner Teresa, and she went above and beyond to make sure our visit was one to be remembered. We went on opening day and were really impressed at how good all of the beers were for just opening! The New England IPA was definitely my favorite. The ambiance was really cool and contemporary and I really enjoyed the music that they were playing.
