Dinner with my party of three in Middletown, NY was a happy ending to a fun eventful Saturday. As we entered we sat to intake a moment of stillness while other patrons arrived later and has the audacity to order Heineken beer. Whoa, who orders Heineken beer in a craft bar and pub?! Our party of three heard their crass request for Heineken beer. That is very vulgar and such malarkey. Dudes, how about sipping on session IPA, a lager, a pale ale, a hi-octane IPA, a stout, a cider, or a cocktail? Scotchtown is not a business where patrons request Heineken beer. Don't think about ordering a Budweiser, that is rude and utter disrespectful! Aside from this vulgar request, patrons appears to behave and no rowdy out of control essence. Scotchtown carries quality craft beer on tap and good food options. Staff is friendly and attentive. Ambiance is dark, dingy but not boisterously loud. Price is reasonable. Casual atmosphere. We sat at the bar counter on wooden high chairs with backs. At first glance, this looks like a dive bar with a hipster vibe. The menu reflects much more of a Gastro pub vibe, though. With traditional fares like truffle fries and unique macaroni and cheese choices, the menu offers more than one would expect. I'd give the food quality decently high grades and I am definitely impressed with the diverse selection of cuisines represented on the menu. The service was great and although we arrived around 6 PM, by the time we left around 7 PM; the place was absolutely packed. This was on a Tuesday night! This place doesn't look like much from the outside. It's also pretty dark inside. They do have a nice selection of beer, including sour ales. I had the fish n chips for dinner, and the fish was very tasty. It tasted better than it looked. My colleague had the rib eye sandwich and he enjoyed it very much. We had wings as an appetizer. In general I do not like wings. I'm very picky with taste, texture, flavor etc. I would not order the wings again. Great place to have a drink. Okay for food. Had a great meal and drinks here while mourning my brother-in-law. Reminded me of many great bars with food in wonderful places across the country. The staff was very helpful describing the beers for those that cared (me and my wife) and other drinks for those that didn't like beer (sacrilege!). Twice we tried this place... And twice it was not very good. The drinks are good! But save your money and eat at Tapped. The buffalo chicken fried sandwich is an over cooked chicken cutlet slice. I pulled off all the over cooked parts and it left me with about half of the sandwich. The Cajun fries they change extra for are just regular fries that they threw season salt on. It's basically bar food. They should advertise that on their website that boasts an excellent food program. My husband got the Mac and cheese with pulled pork. It was served to him cold. Like cold cold. The bartender is awesome though. She made a really good cocktail. My thoughts: close the kitchen and just serve drinks. Stick with what ya know. When you walk in you should know what to expect: more bar than restaurant. I was in the area and it was after two so I was hungry. A little sticky on your feet and a little smelly like beer...but the veggie burger was good and my bartender was very sweet. This was truly a great experience. I have to say up front that I was a little hesitant to enter the bar. An "out-of-towner" walking into a small bar located at one end of a small strip mall (stop me if you have seen this movie before), but thankfully I double checked Yelp and went in. I was really not prepared for how great the space is in the bar. It is not huge, but the bar is good sized, there are also several places to sit away from the bar. As for the more important things - the staff was super nice. Welcoming me right when I walked in and offering really good recommendations for food and drink. The beer selection was terrific. A good amount of options - a variety of types from IPAs, wheat beers, lagers, and even a pastry smoothie beer. Really great selection and not so big that you risk a keg sitting around for too long. The food was also delicious. I had the falafel wrap with garlic parm fries. Everything was great and better than I expected. A step above bar food, but nothing crazy - just something to fill you up while you drink amazing beer. Overall, a great bar that I will be going back to the next time I am in the area. read more

I had high hopes for this place after seeing the reviews and was really excited to check it out Sat night. For starters, the place was packed (which is a good sign) and we found two seats at the bar. For some reason I thought this would be more of a restaurant/bar vibe, but it was just a bar and included some rowdy people that probably should have been cut off. The bar seats are tiny! Not very comfortable. We ordered the short rib tacos and the boar ragu. The tacos were very excellent but the ragu was so sooo salty. It doesn't really come with a sauce, the meat and the juice IS the sauce. I like my meals heavily spiced, but not when it's salt only. My biggest complaint here is they were completely understaffed. The only people working was a bartender (who was very nice) and a waitress who had all the tables to herself. People from the tables were asking the bartender for things and the service was extremely slow. Not to mention, there was a pile and I mean a PILE of dirty glass wear sitting on the bar because the staff was too busy to clean it. With all of that combined, we left disappointed. read more

Great little hole in the wall bar. Very tasteful looking and veered towards a more hip crowd. I enjoy their "geek" trivia they do once a week and it's how I came to know of this place. The staff is super friendly and are willing to make up some cooks concoctions. The only food I've had is their wings and fries, pretty good. Their drinks are a little pricey for me but probably average for this type of bar. Can get a little busy on weekend nights and trivia nights with high is good because not many people like sitting in a quiet empty bar. read more

Glad to see another establishment doing it right during COVID. They only had outdoor seating, which was fine, because the weather was beautiful. Service both times I went was great and our server always was on point with their beer recommendations. I tried their tuna bomb, littleneck clams and crabcake. Having lived in Maryland for three years, my expectation for the crabcake was quite high and they somewhat missed the mark -- dry and lacking the the crab department, but the tuna bomb and clams were delicious. Been there twice now. I've had the Cuban and the Moroney Burger. Both fantastic. My wife has had the mango habanero wings and the Mac and cheese with chicken and poblano peppers. Both also fantastic. The menu is fairly priced and a great value for the food you'll get. Definitely upscale bar fare. The bar itself is very stylish with a concrete bar top and industrial chic lighting. Music is in the background without being intrusive but still noticeable. The beer constantly rotates with the taps being craft selections. Like the food also fairly priced and well priced under other beer bars in the county. A good chunk from New York. Flights are available. Don't worry there's mainstream bottled selections available for those who don't like craft beers. They also carry some craft liquor as well too as well as a great selection of the hard stuff. Mike the owner and the rest of the staff are very attentive and check on you a good number of times. Especially Mike. Very friendly and cares about your experience. This is a great place and a awesome addition to thte Middletown area. We had stopped in here while passing through. The place is comfortable and the seating options are plentiful. We chose to sit at a table towards the back. The service was polite and quick. The waitress had a good knowledge of the beers on tap and was able to make the appropriate recommendations. I had the hard pressed Cuban and the other 2 at my table had burgers. Everything was delicious.
