An institution. $6 matinee tickets? $2 sodas? Family of five with tickets and snacks (and I mean snacks lol) under $60? What year is it again? The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because the sound quality is as old as the pricing. Finally got to see a movie here, wife and I went and saw Jungle Cruise yesterday. Love, love, love this theater. Will be back for future showings and prices are very reasonable, especially the concessions imo. Seats / legroom are very generous. The theatre's quite quaint with lots of room for people to sit with an up stairs balcony as well which is always a plus. The place is cash only for admission which is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and children which is truly a great deal. The lobby is not very large but it does accommodate in the function that it is needed. The problem that I had with this is I did not see anything advertised that you were unable to get in the building until a half hour before the show, so we ended up waiting in the cold outside the doors that were locked for 20 mins and that was not very fun at all. The refreshment stand in the lobby was small one person at a time so you need to be fast or people will need to wait and agitation may so it's face if you are taking too long, but the prices are good and refills are $1 for popcorn and soda. Overall it was a great night to be together with my family. I loved the atmosphere in the place and would only recommend that the seats be a little higher in the back seat it truly felt like I was sitting on a comfortable floor . I would though recommend this to anyone who wants to go out for a nice night out to a good movie at great prices. Thanks for listening. read more

This is the only place I wanna watch movies from now on. What's not to love. The movies are $5. The concessions are dirt cheap and come with $1 refills for ANY size. The screen is huge. The seats are comfy. And the sound is loud. Plus anytime you can support a locally owned business over corporate is a win. But my absolute favorite part; I CAN WATCH THE MOVIE WITHOUT PEOPLE TALKING! I have been going to this cinema since my family first moved to Glenville back in the day. I've seen so many films here. I've lived through the managers, and the renovations. I think the first film I saw here was ET. In this incarnation it's a really nice hometown cinema. It's clean and well cared for. The renovations have taken care of some of the old and failing parts of the cinema. It looks really nice. It retained enough of it's character that it's not like any of the others. The newer seating is comfortable. (The arms lift up, btw.) The popcorn is fresh popped. The concessions are not outrageous. The balcony is still wonderful. They usually run a main feature in the evenings and a kids movie in the afternoons, and it's great for kids. The prices are a bargain compared to the big movieplexes. And it's *SO* worth it to keep a local legend alive. Honestly, this cinema has a good turn out, at least in the last few times I have visited. I hope that it continues that way. read more

A jewel embedded in the middle of downtown Scotia! My son needed to take a driving class and booked a 5 hour one in downtown Scotia, leaving me to keep myself occupied for an afternoon. I made two wonderful discoveries - the Scotia Cinema and the Jade Bistro. The Scotia Cinema reminded me of my childhood theater, only cleaner and newer. The facility itself is wonderfully clean and has incredible leg room. The bathroom is always kept nice and neat. There are NO sticky floors anywhere. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are out of this world. $5 admission, candy for $2/2.50, popcorn and drink prices soooo reasonable. It is worth the drive from Saratoga Springs for such an enjoyable experience. This has become my go to movie theater. read more

I love going to the movies, but hate paying full price for a ticket. Admission is inexpensive, plus this cinema has a TON of charm from the old days. I discovered this adorable place when I lived in Rotterdam. I have since left NYS, but I have fond memories of coming to this cinema. I had a lot of fun times catching movies here for $4, it's now up to $5, but I still think it's quite affordable. You have to wait a few weeks for the newest movies to cycle through Bow Tie or Regal before they are shown here. I used to come here with someone who really enjoyed the popcorn, it was reasonably priced compared to the big chains. I recommend stopping in Schenectady before for some Bomber's or Canali's if you are craving Italian. read more

Today was my first trip to Scotia Cinema, but it won't be my last. My family and I had a fantastic experience. This is an independent movie theater that shows second-run movies. The prices are amazing as a result. I can't remember the last time we spent less than $40 between tickets and concessions for the five of us. Tickets are $5.00 for ages 12 and up. Littler kids and seniors only pay $3.50! And popcorn, snacks, and drinks are just a fraction of what you'd pay at Regal. Great, great value. After buying our tickets just inside the front door, the line for concessions wound around the lobby, but the two employees who were serving things up kept things moving nicely. The theater is well-maintained and very clean, and the kids got a kick out of the fact that there's a balcony! We sat up there in the last row, right in front of the projector. If you're a tall person like me, you've gotta be careful up there. The ceilings get low near the back. The seats were quite comfortable. Halfway through the movie, I needed to hit the bathroom (it was my second time seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron, so I took my sweet time). The edges of the stairs were well-lit. I had no trouble getting back down to the lobby area. The bathroom was clean. Just three urinals and a stall for the guys. After the movie was over, a line was forming. My only tiny complaint is that the theater is cash-only. Be sure to hit an ATM before you get there. I'm bummed that I waited until now to discover this place. We'll be back VERY soon, I'm sure. read more

$4.50 for a movie, popcorn and soda are totally affordable. It's a great place to go by yourself, or for a cheap date. The big guy that takes your ticket up front has been there forever. I always say "2 children tickets please" and he never laughs or even bothers to give me the underage ticket so I can save a dollar. A group of high school kids are there to give you soda and popcorn. The owner has a huge hair cut that looks a little like Elvis. It's great, a throw back to simpler days when times were easier and main street had a theater on it. read more

This cinema is fantastic. It beats the hell out of the Regal cinemas. You get a great value here: the movie is only $4.50. The snacks are (a) good, and (b) not ridiculously overpriced like Regal. The popcorn has real butter. The theater itself is very nice and comfortable. You really can't go wrong with this place: it's a great theater to visit. My only grievance: Cash-only. Yes, I know, I never shut up about this point, but it's something that I feel is important. I have a very tough time accepting that a business for whatever reason does not take credit cards in 2014. This theater is a hidden gem in the city of Scotia, New York. Movies are $5 for adults (12 and older), and most concession snacks are a $1.50-$2.50. -Significantly cheaper than most other theaters. The theater is clean and well-kept with comfortable seating. The biggest drawback is that this is a second run cinema - meaning that if you really, really want to see a film on opening weekend it won't be happening here. However, if there is a movie that looks good to you but that you are willing to wait a month or two to see, this is your theater. I am one of those folks who believe that some movies need to be seen on the big screen instead of on TV. I can bring my wife and our two teenage kids out to this place, and for the four of us to get in and have some concessions costs about as much as just two of us going to see a movie at a chain theater and maybe buying a small popcorn. Love the Scotia Cinema. Quite frankly it's an exercise in patience when you are waiting for movies to come to the Scotia Cinema, but it's worth the price every time. Usually not too long to wait for the movies that you want to see. For the price of $4.50 (Adults) and average of about $1.50 - 2.00 for candy and soda, plus the refills on popcorn it can't be beat. The staff is great, the ambiance is great. We always try to get into the balcony so that we can take in the movie! They recently renovated the interior to move back the screen to put in more seats. Love the Scotia! Frequently drive 25 minutes to go see a film here! The Scotia's prices are really reasonable in everything, be it the tickets or the munchies. It's always clean, and the staff is friendly. There's lots of leg room too. It's a great place to see a film for the 2nd or 3rd time, if you're like me and like to see the Superheroes in IMAX first. The only con is that there isn't always enough parking (especially in the summer months), and you'll have to walk a bit. read more

The theater itself is great, with a balcony and seating on the floor and I doubt there is a bad seat in the house. You can't best a movie for $4.50. We take our own refreshments generally but it wouldn't break the bank if you buy there. We love sitting in the balcony. Only down side, and it's unfortunate, but the grumpy guy at the window is not pleasant at all. He never says a word and seems downright unhappy to be there. I have been going here for close to 20 years and every time I step up to the window I dread seeing him. There is no way to get this guy to crack a smile let alone utter a word. Thank goodness it's a deal to go to the movies here otherwise I suspect his unpleasantness would really affect business. I would give this 5 stars if it weren't for him. read more

The price is as right as it gets for movies, and the theatre is comfy in the true sense of the word. Sorry I know it's trite but that is what it feels like. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this little theater. It's a Scotia landmark that's been there since 1921 and here's hoping it will be there for many years to come. To quote their website: "Our goal is to provide a clean and cozy environment in which to view the latest movies at an affordable price." If that's the goal, they're surpassing it. Friendly service, great prices on tickets and munchies, real butter on your popcorn and cleanliness, nicely renovated to stay true to its origins... all the obvious great things are there. All that wonderful stuff considered, it isn't what makes you fall in love with the place. Watching a movie here, you realize there's something less tangible that makes it special. Unlike the sterile, rushed atmosphere at Crossgates or other cinema chains, at the Scotia Cinema you feel yourself become part of a little community. It's the one theater thing, people in the lobby actually say hi and chat with each other as they get their tickets and popcorn. They like each other because everyone has something in common, being fans of this little gem of a theater. What's more, they're all there to see the same movie, so they end up seated next to each other. By the time the movie begins you almost feel as if you're watching the movie in your living room with a hundred of your closest friends. People laugh out loud, cheer for the good guy, and, if the movie is good, they aren't afraid to stand up and applaud. It's the way a movie crowd should be. Did I mention I LOVE this theater? Yup.
