Carne asada tacos, fries and farmhouse salad with chicken and the beef sandwich were all super tasty. We had to try a dessert and it was hard to pick just one as they all sounded so good - landed on the apple crisp and it was perfect and the best warm caramel sauce. Food is fresh, good quality and everything was great. Service for drinks was the fastest I've ever encountered in any restaurant- seriously! For as large as this place is, they have it running like a machine with food runners and wait staff choreographed perfectly. It's also a neat atmosphere, lots of tables, full bar and good vibe. Not sure if it was, but that was my take on it. It didn't stop me from eating it all (came only half a sandwich). I pretty much finished my plate (a little salad left). I couldn't believe this was happening. What should have been a nice Friday evening turned into an extremely uncomfortable experience. Good wine and a nice bartender don't make up for an atmosphere like that. We are new to the area, and unfortunately, this was our first impression. Washed all of this down with a sour that was called Boozy Berry & my fiancé had a West Coast beer. Food was enjoyable, atmosphere was fun. We will be back again.

I'm really surprised with all of the good reviews this place has! Our experience here was not everything these folks are talking about. I searched Yelp for a place near by. My husband and I wanted to check out a new place we'd never been before. He loves playing pool and the name sounded cool so we went to see about all the good things I read about. Upon reaching the bar, we were told "I need to see your ID's. No greeting. No friendliness--all business. Then it was "what do you want". My husband ordered his drink. She made it. Then said the price, not even asking if I wanted something. Once I got my drink we tried to pay and the lady said, over her shoulder as she walked away "we don't take cards, ATM is over there". Didn't ask if we had cash. And again, was not friendly in the slightest. Since we didn't feel like being around her, we went to the back of the bar by the pool tables and sat on a couple stools. A guy asked my husband to play pool, and they played a couple rounds. Unfortunately this was the only good part of our experience and the only reason I'm even giving them 2 stars. Seems like the patrons were friendly enough, a lot of die hard pool players. But the staff, at least the one lady we met, left a lot to be desired. read more

The yard is the best bar around. The drinks are strong, and they only cost 3 bucks. A wide range of people go here. It has a great atmosphere that you would expect at a dive bar. The first night after arriving in town around 11pm and DC's was busy. Lori was our bartended and she was great. Red Rooster sports bar has been serving the community of Oceanside for over 60 years. Even though they recently had a change of ownership, the new owners are also local and they left local management in charge. This effectively means that nothing has changed, and they are still providing some of the best bar, food and ambience, as well as drinks! They just cleaned up the bathrooms and a little bit of the interior decor. When it comes to food, the Red Rooster is known for their famous Rooster Burger. This burger is legendary within the community. I also love their crispy fries that are well seasoned. More recently, they have also added $.69 chicken wings on Wednesdays. This deal is available with the purchase of a beer. They also have cider available as well. Although they have a few basic flavors on their regular chicken wing menu, on Wednesdays, they add a lot more flavors to the special. These sauce, flavors alternate weekly, and it adds a nice variety. Most recently, I enjoyed the teriyaki, the bourbon bbq, honey mustard, general tso and my favorite is the lemon pepper. The interior looks much like a divey sports bar, equipped with one pool table and a few high-table seating available. There is also a backyard seating area with a fire pit, that is also fenced off. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Red Rooster at least once to experience their burger, their chicken wings, and a small piece of historic Oceanside vibes.
