I was extremely disappointed in my experience with this business. Based on the reviews, I decided to take my valuable, antique ring in for repair. The original center stone had fallen out and I wanted the stone to be re-polished and re-inserted in the ring. The woman at the counter was short and rude and essentially told me that they didn't know how or have the means to repair the ring. I'm certain, from her lack of knowledge, that she was not a jeweler, but I was never given the option to speak to one. I'm not sure if they have a real jeweler... It seemed to me that as soon as they realized I wasn't there to buy something, they couldn't get me out of the store fast enough. Want overpriced jewelry? Go to Scott Reising. Want a real, knowledgeable jeweler? Go elsewhere. There was no fake stone in the ring. Just because your sales clerk couldn't identify the center stone does not mean it was fake.. Please don't make up excuses; it's unprofessional. Update : Took my ring in to James Free Jewelers. They were super helpful and friendly and are exploring several options for putting the original center stone, which they're pretty sure is a Sapphire, by the way, back in the ring. I went to check out if they can place my rings together. I checked all of yelp for good reviews and this seemed like a great place! I went in and was told to wait, which was fine. When I finally got someone they were very short with me and just kept saying "well I need to see if we can". I don't know if it was just me but I just got a very pretentious vibe from the place. They came back and handed them to me and said "we can't help you". They didn't offer even an explanation but I had to assume because my ring "wasn't up to their standards". I was hopeful when I got off the phone with Pamela. She said that they do a lot of custom work and that it was fine for me to bring in a new engagement ring that I wanted to make some changes to. We agreed to meet in the morning and she knew I'd be driving across town to be there. My fiancee and I were on time to their store. We were dressed nicely and I brought my four carat diamond ring that I wanted their help with. My first impression when walking in their store was that their items were unique and well crafted. That they worked in higher end stuff. This made me even more hopeful about the work we could do together. However, when Pamela started helping me in the store she became a bit impatient with me. She was trying to push me into one decision or another as quickly as possible without giving me space to talk through the pros and cons with her. I wanted her honest help in problem solving and she didn't seem interested. This was worrisome. She then quickly went back to Scott in the back of the store with my ring. Scott then came out to meet us and I was excited to meet him. However very quickly he refused to do the work for us. He said his refusal was "out of principle", which sounded like a load of crap. He said that we needed to FORCE our previous jeweler to remake the design, even though we had met with him probably 8-9 times and don't think he has the skill to do the job. We expressed that it looked as if Scott had the skill. We explained that we were very eager to work with them (Scott and Pamela). Scott just kept repeating over and over "just make him (the previous jeweler) do it". Scott's rigidity and lack of elaboration was harsh. It reminded me of a child being told directions sternly by a frustrated parent. As you can imagine, all of this lead to a few awkward silences. I started to realize that these people did not care about us, had made up their minds that we were not worth their time, and that they were doing everything in their power to make us uncomfortable and leave. I started looking down at the floor and falling silent because I felt powerless. Meanwhile my fiancee was trying hard to change their minds. Scott then excused himself abruptly because he "was in the middle of something" and left for the back never to return. We tried to better understand more why they didn't want to work with us, but Pamela wouldn't be honest either. They were full of excuses, and "principles". Pamela said that they work from the beginning with designs, they don't like to start with one that's already in the works. I asked, so if we came with just the stone would Scott have worked with us? She said "no". I then asked "so we would have had to buy the stone from you guys in order for Scott to work with us?" Her response "No, no, no! I didn't say that!" Yesterday I had told her on the phone that I already had the engagement ring and stone from else where. Why didn't she mention these confusing policies earlier? Pamela then went on about how back logged they are on "custom work". The same custom work she was bragging to us about when we first walked in. I have a four carat engagement diamond, we dressed nicely, we were polite and articulate. Even the snootiest of places I thought would at least act interested in us. However, Scott Reising was not. I guess he wants to make big expensive sales QUICKLY. Anything that takes time, building rapport, or working through ideas together is probably seen as a waste of his time. Pamela wasn't as offensive, but she seemed very driven to do Scott's bidding and was desperate to say anything to make sure things went his way. Even if that meant lying. It's the dishonesty from both of them that drove me to post this! If they think we're asking for too much or are too indecisive then say that. Give us the reality check. Given the other positive reviews, maybe they'll be nice to you if you're a quick easy sale. However, if you want to talk through things and get some advice beware! If you're picky beware! It is likely that they only have patience for the very wealthy of Hyde Park. read more

I cannot sing Scott Reising's praises enough! Both my fiancé and I took our rings in to be sized and repaired since they were vintage pieces. I had already had my engagement ring reinforced and sized by another jeweler, who completely botched it and it looked just awful! Scott Reising did fantastic work to fix the botched job and really made it look like new. My fiancé's ring was worn and completely bent out of shape. It looked like an entirely different ring (for the better!) when Mr. Reising presented the finished product to us. We were thrilled beyond measure. Both were done well - I was particularly impressed by the ring resizing, as you could not tell at all that the ring had been altered, and it sparkled more than when I dropped it off. Scott Reising Jewelers, and in particular Pamela, essentially became our "family" over the year that we were engaged and married. They are patient, kind, thoughtftul, and extremely non-pressure. My now husband and I stopped into their store before we got engaged because I never wear rings and had no idea what I liked - Pamela was there to spend time with us (knowing we might not come back!) to help us understand our ring preferences. About 1-2 months later, my husband came back and designed my engagement ring within a certain budget with Pamela by his side. And once we were ready for wedding rings, we didn't go to any other store - we went back to Scott Reising and they treated us so well. We tried on lots of different rings and again, Pamela was patient as we zeroed in on what we liked the most. She then provided us a fantastic discount as repeat customers! When we picked up our rings for our wedding, we gave Pamela a hug because we worked so well with her over the last year and it really felt like she became a part of our wedding family. The staff is friendly, patient, experts at their craft, does not pressure you, and is not at all judgmental. If only I wore more jewelry ... I'd go back to them every time! read more

BEWARE. I would rate this jeweler a negative number, but they do not give me that option. I spent nearlwy $36,000 on a diamond ring in this store. Nine months later my husband and I split. I asked Scott if he would trade me something of equal value to dispose of this ring, to which he agreed. Not knowing the industry, I counted on Scott's integrity to make a fair trade. I traded three round Lazar Kaplan diamonds ( 2.1, .8, and .8 carats) for a marquis diamond ring he appraised at $32,000 and a $4000 man's watch. A few years later, I had the ring appraised. One appraiser said the diamond I had was worth maybe $9600. A second appraiser stated that the diamond I had looked like it was recut and appeared to be more of an oval diamond rather than a marquis. Either way he said it was not a quality diamond and not something he was interested in having in his store. He went on to say that the best part of the deal for us may be the watch. When I approached Scott about this, he made excuses as to why he could not honor his original appraised value. Essentially, I was told iwould have to spend a minimum of $16,000 more in his store (that would now be at least $52,000) for a stone that was selling in reputable jewelers for $25,000-$30,000. I now know how much I was taken advantage of. From this, I'm sure you can reach your own conclusions. read more
