I found Scotts service, now called World Tree Removal through our local Truckee Facebook group. Tree removal is a necessary, but expensive proposition in order to help homeowners not only stay safe with defensible space, but to keep their insurance. I submitted requests with no less than five companies. Within 10 minutes of speaking with Scott, he was at my property and gave me an evaluation of the dead trees and a very fair price. He's been at this a long time and found areas where the Tahoe Donner Forestry missed. There was one bid slightly lower all others were much higher, but they didn't see the additional dead trees (which would increase the price above Scott's) AND they couldn't do the work for 6 weeks!! Scott had it done in ONE DAY! They stacked the rounds for seasoning and brought all the branches to the curb for the Tahoe Donner chipping program. Although I'd love to not take another tree down, I wouldn't hesitate to contact him again if I needed too. read more

We signed a three year contract for $6500 for tree removal in 2017. They did emergency work in February of 2017 and cleaned the mess up in June 2017. They have not been back and we have several dead standing trees in our yard that were "topped" and left standing dead by Scott Simpson. After several attempts to contact with no response, the number listed is now disconnected. We filed a complaint with BBB, but we don't expect any resolution. Scott clearly has no intention of fulfilling his contract and we paid a lot of money to be left with a major hazard on our property. Do not use this scam artist. read more

I wish I had read the reviews here before hiring Mr. Simpson. I had a similar experience with this company as many other reviewers. We hired Scott because of a neighbor's sharing a one-page ad in the Auburn Journal. We requested a quote for taking down a large oak tree that was learning over our house. The quote seemed reasonable (we had a similar sized-oak eradicated a few years earlier; in retrospect, we should have hired them). Mr. Simpson said he would be able to do the work within a few days. I stayed home the following Monday waiting for his crew, naively thinking they would begin early in the morning and finish that afternoon. Not hearing from Mr. Simpson, I called his answering service for an approximate time. Scott returned my call saying that he would start work around noon. His crew arrived around 3:30 (my wife had to take off work to be home when they arrived). There was no communication before beginning the work about how big we wanted the rounds, where did we want the wood to be stacked, cleanup, etc. In order to get the truck close enough they cut two limbs from our beautiful Maple tree. We had Okayed the cutting of one limb. The Maple tree is now an eyesore. They worked until 8:30 that evening, well after dark. Working when you can't see your surroundings is extremely dangerous. My neighbors complained about the noise as well. They arrived the next day around the same time and worked until 9:00. To shorten this review, let me just say that we were disappointed for several reasons; 1. Mess. The roof was covered was limbs and sawdust. We had to clean the roof ourselves. 2. The removal of the two Maple trees limbs cost us an additional $500. There was never a discussion about the cost. 3. Destruction. Several landscape bushes, ground cover, garden art were destroyed. It will cost us $500 to $1,000 to replace everything. 4. Lawn. We had recently added new sod to our back lawn. Heaps of sawdust was left on the lawn as well as huge divots. I had to purchase new sod. 5. Cleanup. Limbs and branches were scattered around the property. I spent three full days cleaning up. 6. Firewood. Huge rounds were left for me to chainsaw and store. Many of the rounds were too big for me to handle. I had to ask some friends to help cut them into smaller pieces. This took about three hours. I do want to say that Scott said that he would come sometime the following week to cut down the stump in the backyard. However, we denied his request because of our prior experiences with him. My wife and I are not ones to complain. It takes a lot for us to write a review like this. But we feel compelled for the sake of others who are considering hiring Simpson Tree Removal Inc. read more

I have the same experience as the rest. I (now regretfully) signed a 3 year pre-paid contract. It included all the digger pines on my property plus $100.00 for any tree that was a threat to my house. They cut down 8 medium sized pines with in the 1st 2 months. I had to continue phoning him to schedule the rest. June 2016 he sent a crew to come out to drop one of my large pines. They did NOT finish cutting and stacking but we agreed the job could be done when they returned to drop the last large pine. After that, I've called Scott over 20 times and he's always very busy, has a health issue or in some crisis mode with a customer and will call me back. I don't hear anything for many weeks . He finally called me 3 weeks ago , said he no longer owns the company but trying to clear up his contracts with getting the work done or to refund $'s. Issue here is he wants to refund $'s on the contract date, not todays costs to do the work. I wanted the tree taken down. These last 2 weeks we've spoke 3 times and its always "I don't have a date yet but will call you back". I'm trying to schedule a driveway replacement before winter and he's know that for 4 months now. Yesterday he said he could do it next week but will only drop the tree as he no longer will cut into log size and stack - it's my job to find someone to take the wood and to take care of the rest. He'll call me after dark - no call. I left him a message this am twice. Today he called in the afternoon and said he will not be responsible for any damage around the tree caused by his company. I have a driveway gate and chain link fencing right there as well as power lines this tree could hit. He knew about these on our original walkthrough and he assured me he has insurance if needed. I let him know I'm tired of it and will take him to small claims court. He said he didn't like my attitude and to go ahead and sue him - I won't get anywhere. 4 weeks ago I decided to start check reviews. He has no place on his web site for reviews and Yelp reviews are a carbon copy of what I've experienced. read more

Stay away from this man. Crook, fake, con artist, etc...... Took our $3000.00 up front never showed up to do job. Many calls to get him out. Dropped logs and destroyed my driveway. Divots everywhere. Destroyed my garden fence, dented my truck. Showed up on a Sunday At 6:00 p.m. 10 hrs. late. kept neighbors up till midnight. Many calls to remove rounds from driveway. Thief and conman. Very likable .... convinced my wife to pay ahead for three years of service. She paid $6,500. Did some work the next day...then GONE. Had to hire someone else (thousands of dollars) to complete the work. I've discovered he has ripped off A LOT of folks..and that he has no license & insurance. Unfortunately, Scott no longer provides the service he/his team once did. Phone calls are not retuned in a timely manner and work scheduled is constantly postponed or totally ignored. Several friends I recommended use Scott have contacted me to see if I could get him to begin/finish the work they were promised and had paid for. My requests went unheeded. I have apologized to my friends for my recommendation and am seriously disappointed in his poor/unsatisfactory performance (and cheating us out of the money he was given "up front" in good faith). read more

Scott Simpson did a very thorough job for me. He has responded to my calls to come and I did the $7,500 three year contract which when I consider all he has done was certainly worth the money. I still have five months left on my contract and feel certain that if I have a need that he will return to do additional work that is needed and covered by the contract. I do pay him extra for work not covered by our agreement! I would not hesitate to call Scott again!!! read more

Everything people are saying about Scott in the reviews is correct. Under no circumstances should you ever consider letting him on your property. He will show you a binder of all the jobs he has done in the past with glowing reviews but when I asked to see phone numbers he stated he couldn't show them because that was an invasion of there privacy, yet there are pictures of the properties. I should have listened to that little voice in the back of my mind especially when he said he needs 50% upfront in cash. Needless to say, he never finished what was agreed to and only cut down two of the five trees he was supposed to cut. He claimed he had an emergency and had to leave but would return to finish the job. It's been more than 7 years now and the only reason I'm writing this is that I came across his business card in some old paperwork. I remember thinking I'll keep this so I can go after him but gave up since it would cost more to suing him. The next best thing would be to write a glowing review of his unethical practice. We signed up for a three year contact. for $4000 Initial work was done well. (note he wanted the money up front, fast). We discussed a 90ft Ponderosa pine that was leaning dangerously toward our house. He explained how he would remove it. Since then the tree died and needs to be taken out. We talked to him on the phone a few times, said he would get back to us. We sent him some text messages, same answer. He avoided us This tree needs to be taken out as if it fell it could hit our house and definitely take our our PG&E and AT&T lines, causing our curcuit breaker box to be ripped out from the side of our house, causing considerable damage. We had to find another company and will cost nearly 5K. read more

We purchased the 3 Year Service Contract in 2013. It was a little difficult to get on Scott's schedule, but it was worth the wait. Scott showed up with his 100 ft crane/bucket truck as promised and removed 4 additional trees for us. He is fast, professional and best of all cleans up after doing his work. We just signed up for an additional 3 year Service Contract. We are happy to have Scott keep our property free of diseased trees and keeping trees away from the house for fire protection! read more

I recently signed my second 3-year Timber Service Contract agreement with Scott Simpson. As a general rule, I would prefer to avoid this type of contract, which requires that I, as the homeowner and beneficiary of the services, pay the full price of the contract up front. However, I accepted Scott's contract for two reasons: first, my experience during the first 3-year contract had been very positive; and second, I recognize that Scott is working very hard to expand his business, while solidifying its reputation for having top quality personnel and equipment. We've all heard the expression, "You get what you pay for," and Scott's business is a good illustration of that. Scott has set a high standard for his business: he wants to offer his clients the highest quality employees and have reliable, safe equipment. Neither is inexpensive, so he has a legitimate need for capital. On the very day I signed the contract -- a Sunday -- Scott returned with a second man, a huge truck with an extension arm and bucket, and a heavy-duty chipper. Together, Scott and his helper worked for almost five hours, without a break. Darkness did not stop them; they turned on the high wattage lights and kept on working until the job was done. Scott's crews have worked on our property many times over the last 3 1/2 years. Every time I have been impressed by the high quality of his workers.They are professional in their manner and conduct, respectful, knowledgeable about their work, energetic and capable. We were happy with that portion of the job, but he cannot be reached now to finish up the rest of our work. He doesn't answer our phone calls even. Scott Simpson and crew did an outstanding job removing an 80' pine right next to my house. All the limbs were removed first and not one came down on my roof or deck. That was an amazing feat. The trunk was taken down and sections and also no damage to the house or deck. They worked after dark until they completely finished the job including clean up. Requested a quote from Scott Simpson & he showed up to do the work that evening (in the rain). Scott cut down three beetle infested pines. Bucked them up so we could later split/stack, for next years firewood. Scott's crew was professional, chipped all debris and blow/sweep/raked all remaining debris from the area. Would recommend him, as a very highly professional & with cost efficient prices. It's all about customer service and Scott has it. read more
