Reasonably priced, skilled and professional, easy to work with, would absolutely hire again.

Our neighbor was planning to have tree work done and gave us the name of the tree company he intended to hire, Mike Lyons Tree Service. We contacted Mr. Lyons and arranged for him to inspect our property and provide an estimate for several tree-trimming projects. He came to our home, walked through the work we wanted completed, and quoted a day rate of $2,500. During that meeting, he explained that after his crew completed work at our neighbor's property, they could trim a few branches on trees near our house while they were already in the area and then return later to complete the remainder of the project. Based on our discussion, we left with the impression that everything was proceeding as planned. We asked him to send us a written contract or proposal for the work. He agreed, but we never received one, nor did he contact us. Later, our neighbor told us that Mr. Lyons would be working at his property on the following Tuesday. Since we still had not received the promised contract or heard from him, we called Mr. Lyons that morning to discuss the project. He said he was in the area and would stop by. About an hour later, while his crew was working next door, Mr. Lyons knocked on our door and informed us that his crew was already trimming trees on our property. This came as a complete surprise because we had never authorized any work, signed a contract, or agreed on the scope or price for that portion of the job. When I inspected the work with him, I found that approximately 10-15 small-to-medium branches, approximately 1/2-4 inches in diameter, had been removed from a single oak tree. In my opinion, the cuts were not made as cleanly as I expected, and because the bucket truck was already positioned immediately adjacent to our property while working next door, and did not need to be moved, the work appeared to require less than 30 minutes of labor, including hauling the branches to the chipper. I asked what he intended to charge. He quoted $250 and said he expected payment that day. I asked whether that amount could instead be applied toward the larger project we had previously discussed, but he said it would not. We then discussed the remaining work, scheduling, and the written contract we had originally requested. Mr. Lyons told us he finalized his schedule on Sundays and would contact us afterward with a contract. That was the last communication we received, and we've heard nothing more from Lyon's Tree Service. Based on our experience, we were disappointed by several aspects of this transaction. Work began on our property before we had authorized it or signed a contract, the $250 charge for approximately 30 minutes of work seemed disproportionate, particularly since the crew and equipment were already on site working at our neighbor's property, and no additional travel or setup appeared to be required, and the promised follow-up regarding the remainder of the project never occurred. Had Mr. Lyons simply informed us that he was either unable or not inclined to take on the larger job, we would have appreciated the courtesy and honesty. A professional businessman would do this. Professional communication and clear agreements are essential when hiring a contractor. Unfortunately, we did not experience either in this case, and for that reason we cannot recommend this company. read more

These guys made it look easy. Ive used them a few times and they had the same crew as before. The one guy Joe is like a magician.

Mike his son, Joe and their helper took down three tall ponderosa pines in the back of our property that had been standing dead for three years. One of them was a big snag, 36 inches in diameter, all without bark, standing 50 feet with its top off. It was on the line between our property and our neighbor's, on a hill sloping toward their house. No one would climb it but to fell it in one piece meant it needed to be precisely done or it would have taken out several prize conifers that we had planted over the years in its only safe fall line. After the first two were felled without any damage to surrounding trees, the snag was next. The exact cut and the precision pull on the guide rope brought the dangerous tree down along the only path possible without doing harm- a narrow five foot corridor along a 50 foot path. Boom! I had been trying to get ahold of the tree service company I have used for the last four years and they were unresponsive. I called up Mike @ Lyons Tree Service and not only did he answer the phone, he made time to come by and look at the job on the same day. He had his crews out to our property in less than a week with ample notification, and follow up confirmation. The crew did an efficient, safe and clean job!! We needed to get a 40 ft Costal Redwood cut down and the roots removed. While getting bids for tree service...I got a call from a Solar person. I told him I was too busy and needed to get a tree removed. He said he was looking at our house on Google and they would cut the tree down as part of the Solar Deal. That they had to cut trees down all the time. So they had a great working relationship with Arborists and could have it done by Lic insured arborist for less. So he set the trap and I took the bait. The Salesman came out signed us up for Solar and then also added to the contract that the tree and roots would be removed. Then things started to go side ways. They wanted to work with Arborists we had gotten bids from not all were in writing...FYI get bids in writing. Then person at Solar got Covid and the Tree person that Solar was sending out to make a bid...also got Covid. Having to start from scratch and In a bind I called Lyon's Tree service. Mike was very personable and helpful. Told me to send me a photo and he would see if he could do it for what we had Planned for in the Solar Deal. I took and sent the photos and then got a call from Solar. Saying they had rearranged everything and had Arborist who would take it down in two days and rearranged the schedule so Solar would then go in after tree was removed as originally planned. Then got a call from Mike saying he could take the tree down for the amount I had planned. He was very personable, helpful and understanding ...I will use him for the next tree service I need. Also he gave me some advice for a Golden Locust that has seen better days. Would recommend him for promptness and ease of working with. read more

I received three quotes and went with Lyons after walking the property and discussing my needs. His crew was on time and Joe the crew chief and primary trimmer did an excellent job shaping the problem trees. I had two very large Oaks and one Ash tree shaped along with complete removal of three large pine trees and dead limb clean up of ten more. Crew cleaned up after each day which was very appreciated. I needed a tree and its stump removed in the back yard, and a tree in the front yard thoroughly trimmed back, as well as the roots cut back, as they were impinging on our driveway. Mike Lyons was very good to work with. He clearly explained the process he would go through for each project and gave me a very fair and reasonable estimate. He even offered to trim back some branches of a neighbor's tree which was overhanging our yard at no extra cost to us. Lyons Tree Removal was working at our neighbors. During the job, I ask the crew if they had time to trim a couple of heavy branches for me. Easy job for them, difficult for us. We set a price and time. The estimator said he would be back just after he went to the bank. The crew left, and I heard nothing more. I phoned their office, and was told that an answer would be forthcoming and the respondent would call me back. No response. Although I understand this isn't a large job, but a verbal arrangement was made. II feel this was very unprofessional behavior for a business, and I would caution anyone to beware of this in the comparison,of other factors. Zero stars. The week after thanksgiving they came out to my house and gave me an estimate to remove one stump. They told me they would put me on the schedule and call me later in the week. No calls. I've called them twice since. Never got on the schedule. Never heard from them. Had it removed by someone else. I know it was a small job, but the minimum standard for customer service would be for them to at a minimum call me and tell me the job was too small or not worth it for them. I'll never call them again. read more

The crew of 2 (not Mike the owner) did a good job. Make sure if you use this guy's service that you get everything down in writing as he will backslide on what he quoted you. Also communications are no to slow. Might show up when he says or might not. read more

Update in response to owner's response to my review: Not correct. The irrigation damage occurred in our side yard, no where near the tree that was removed in corner of our backyard. Damage had nothing to do with stump grinding. I suspect he damaged it bringing equipment into our yard, which was not done with appropriate precautions. Yes, we paid him, keeping up our part of the agreement but we were dissatisfied with professionalism and quality. Since the work was years ago and my review does not give my full name, I suspect his response is related to some other person who had a similar damage when he did work. read more

Great service and great price! Mike came and priced out the project and everything went very smooth. We took out a very large redwood tree, a large Chinese elm (about 16 inches diameter) and some 8 other smaller trees. There were 2 other tree cutters from Rocklin who saw the job but went "ahh ... this is too big for us, we can't do it". Mike has invested heavily in his own equipment (boom lift, log mover, stump grinder, chopper, name brand saws, etc.) and that says a lot. Some other guys think that if they rent tools they can compete, no way! Irrigation pipes did break, but it's expected due to the root overgrow or tugging. Lyon Tree Service is the service you want and I would highly recommend Mike's services to anyone. Good job Mike! read more

Mike Lyon and his crew removed a huge tree in my yard in February 2013. These guys were amazing to watch as they worked as a team, ensuring safty to them selves as well as to my property. Lyon's Tree Service removed (branches, stump, and roots) an ash tree from our front yard today which had many, many dead branches and pollarded two fruitless mulberry trees and cut the third one back a lot. The two men also did a great job of cleaning up the yard and driveway after they were finished with the tree work. They did a fantastic job! I highly recommend Lyon's Tree Service! I got 5 different estimates from tree service companies and theirs was by far the least expensive - There was a $2000. difference between their bid and the highest one! I called for an estimate 2+ months ago. They said that they'd be out the next day. Never called or showed up. I followed up 2 weeks ago and they said they had no record of my estimate request. They took my info again and said that they'd be out the next day to give me a quote. Again, no cal & no show. Now I cant get a returned call after following up again. Needed trees pruned and a stump removed from our yard. We had concerns that grinding the stump so close to our artificial turf would result in a huge mess. Mike assured us the job could be done with out a big mess or damage to the turf. The crew arrived on time, worked quickly and did a great job. They did an excellent job cleaning up.
