Pain at the Gas…read more Despite what a lot of non-believers might think, Costco gas is fantastic, and I've never had an issue with it. In fact, my 240k-mile Subaru has been run almost exclusively on Costco gas thanks to the proximity of my work to a Costco Gas Station. Their gas is rated Top Tier™, and that isn't a meaningless proclamation, as TT means a higher quality of gas. They intentionally run it at 20-30¢/gal cheaper than the market average because they use it as a loss leader. * One of the few Costco gas locations that carries diesel. * 5% cash back on the Costco Citi card is kind of hot, especially considering our gas prices as of late. The Meh: * No amenities here like paper towels and window washing equipment. Hell, you're lucky they even have garbage cans! * Members Only. But I mean honestly, does anyone in The Bay *not* have a Costco membership??? The Ugly: * The Santa Cruz station is priced 50¢/gal higher than San José gas stations. I guess that's the schlepping the petrol down the hill tax. Conclusion: Inexpensive, high-quality gas. Not much more one can ask for.

But you already know that because you are following :) Decent selection of micro brews, but not really local, so I skipped. Atmosphere - Overall consistent. Nothing too different that stood out. They have most, if not all the departments - Tire, food court, gas station, pharmacy, optical, hearing aids, etc. I should have checked their gas prices... Service - Self service. Price - Reasonable, inexpensive. But I always end up buying stuff I do NOT need..... So for me it was a little wasteful. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 1994. Congrats on all your success since 1976, since Price Club. Now you are the 5th largest retailer in the world and #10 on the Fortune 500. 804 warehouses worldwide, with 558 in the US. 1980 IPO. 1993 Price Club and Costco merger. 1997 Rebrand all locations to Costco. 2020 105.5 million members.

Brown short hair, clean shaven, kind of slim, maybe 5'10", in his 20s or 30s. Both times he said, with a totally straight face: $20 for the lotto (which was actually $1 if you recall), and then whatever the price of the drink was. And quickly doing the math in his head, he verbally added $19 dollars to the grand total without missing a beat. When I looked at the register seeing the real total (which of course was $19 less than what he said), he deadpanned "just kidding". He did this exact same thing to me two different times in the span of a couple weeks. Seems very sketchy. Benefit of the doubt: I suppose he really could've been "just kidding", but if so, not funny at all and pretty poor taste to be trying that joke on paying customers that you don't know. Especially if you have no comedic demeanor or delivery with it. Keep an eye on this guy.

The manager still charged me a full price. I was fine with paying it, hoping a retest would be free of charge, but they wanted additional $30 dollars for a retest. I was trying to tell him that most smog stations do the retest free of charge as courtesy. He could have at least just offered to pay additional $8.25 for the smog certificate for the retest, but he still insisted on additional $30. He just didn't care about what I was trying to tell him. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE! When I started arguing with him about their customer service, the manager started yelling at me right away. So expect yelling if you have any issues with them! I ran inside, someone came out and stopped it. Then they told me to move to another pump to get gas. I made sure to ask them to cancel the charge of the spilled gas and they said YES. Which was a lie, they did charge me and the claim that it was my fault. I will obviously dispute the charge and file a hazard complaint.
