Absolutely beautiful place. The scenery was so cool. The bonus is free parking. That definitely made a difference. My husband and I spent the afternoon in Scottsdale. Wanted to do something spontaneous while in the area. It was not crowded which was nice. We walked around and enjoyed the various shops. And peeking inside the nice trendy restaurants that are offered there. We passed by several groups of young girls celebrating bachelorettes. Super cute. The exhibition had so many artists, under the Thunderbird Artists project, and I think we stopped at every one of them. For me the day was a bit too hot without much shade, regardless we also strolled around most (all?) of the wine stalls tasting some lovely wines and liquors. One of my favorite was the Chocolate Moonshine because I can't not have chocolate in any form ;) Other wines we enjoyed: Sunbeat Cellars manned by the master vintner, the Sangiovese at a stall I didn't pick a card up from, and we also got a bag full of Dem Nutz offerings. This area is so pretty during the holiday season. My parents and I took so many pictures not just at the lights but also at the several spots/scenes just to take pictures in front of. I ended up at the Waterfront on a busy Saturday afternoon. It's located over near Old Scottsdale and the Fashion Square, and had some nice apartments and restaurants, as well as some nice shops woven into it. They were setting up for the Canal Convergence festival, which was a nice surprise. There were some food vendors and art/crafts vendors, as well as some musical artists and performance arts spread all around. I love that there is a unique area to host an event such as this, and the city really supports this sort of event. I saw lots of events happening at the Waterfront the whole time I was there, so that was pretty great. The public restrooms are very clean and accessible. I can see why locals and tourists enjoy this little spot! read more

I love the Waterfront. The Canal Convergence is one of my favorite events of the year. It's a nice place to walk around after shopping at nearby Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. There are many businesses and restaurants nearby. Scottsdale Waterfront hosts events throughout the year like Art & Wine Festivals, food events, Canal Convergence and Scottsdazzle. The Scottsdale Waterfront is a mixed-use project that surrounds the Arizona Canal that includes upscale living, fine dining, and high-end shopping. There are also retail businesses and office spaces in the area as well. There is plenty of parking in the large parking structure that connects to Fashion Square or in the underground lot. read more

A night time stroll along the canal in Old Town Scottsdale joined by families and couples sharing in the holiday merriment, lights, and sounds of the season. The name of the Scottsdale Waterfront is misleading. Much like the Tempe Beach Park, really has no beach to speak of, the Scottsdale Waterfront is more of a Riverwalk along a waterway. It is not really a destination in itself. It is more an area to take a walk after happy hour or a meal at the many restaurants near here. In addition, the area serves as a great backdrop to art, wine, charity events and even the Scottsdale Grand Prix finish line each Fall. The Waterfront is the location of both Scottsdazzle (December) and the Canal Convergence Water + Art + Light (End of February beginning of March.) These pubic art installations change every year, but have always been worth walking around and often interacting with the art. They often make for a great date night stroll. I wish the the city planners in the Valley of the Sun realized that we could convert more sections of the extensive canal systems into more Riverwalk sections. We live in a desert, and we enjoy being near the few open places in the city with flowing water. Let go of the outdated perception that canals are only open air sewer systems and see the Waterfront as what they can be. In reference to some old reviews, I have come here regularly over the past several years and have never smelled any bad odors coming from this water. If there was a problem years back, it has long been eliminated. read more

A cute place to stroll after a meal, or to just get some exercise in! The Waterfront always has something going on. Parking-wise, there is plenty of street parking nearby. However, I don't like to spend too much time looking for a spot so I usually just go to the Nordstrom parking lot and walk over. It's only a few minute walk. There are often very unique art installations on or around the water. They also have vendors and different celebration events hosted here during certain days of the year. There are several restaurants with a waterfront view that you can eat at as well, including Olive & Ivy and Marcellino. The sidewalks are nicely paved and always kept clean. I walked here a few days ago after breakfast in Old Town, and it was nicely decorated for Christmas! There is a large Christmas tree (closer to Camelback Rd) that is perfect for photos. Once in a blue moon I take a weekend day off from work and head over to Scottsdale Waterfront to The Herb Box to treat myself to breakfast. It being the weekend, there usually are local (and not-so-local) vendors that set up booths of leather belts, desert flora, crystal wind chimes and sun catchers, clothing with positive messages printed all over them, local honey, and even a sweet treat, or two. The name is a bit misleading. Technically, there's water and this area is located adjacent to it. However, it doesn't deliver on the goods for people, like me, who are accustomed to a different setting when they see/hear "waterfront" in a name. Despite the misleading moniker, this area is still pretty cool at times. There's a ton of special event.....festivals, outdoor shopping tents, and random celebrations. I like how they're trying to do something different. Sometimes I think Scottsdale gets stuck in it's "old ways" and at least this area will try something out of the ordinary and make it interesting. If I were single, I'd live in one of the condos nearby and have great walking access to all of Old Town. If it wasn't for the name, I'd give it 3 Stars. The name alone is worth a 1 Star loss because it can't deliver on that promise when the "waterfront" is a canal that an old lady can throw a baseball across the width of it. Waterfront residents beware! It appears you have a new property manager who ran our building so poorly that it is unbelievable. Watch her. She will cuddle up to the board members so that she can have total freedom to come in as late as she wants and leave as early as she wants. She pits residents against each other and will intimidate residents with fines if they don't behave to her liking. She is bad, bad news and get ready for staff salaries to rise quickly and for your HOA dues to rise even faster! Ok, everyone has pointed out that this is a canal, but it's still a nice waterway and does not stink at all. I think only two places have "water" views, but it's better than staring at another table of people or parked cars when your dining al fresco. There is some exploring to do also just past where the water starts. Oh yes and people do jog along that canal and these are Scottsdale women, so the sites ain't so bad either especially on a 70 degree winter afternoon. read more

When I was growing up we called this the canal. In other parts of town it is still called the canal. In some places people actually fish from it. I think they die right after they eat their catch, which is why you don't see them very often. Over the years you periodically hear about dead bodies being found in the canal as well. Google it. What is so annoying about this is that Scottsdale, is trying to make it seem like this isn't the same heinous canal that's always been there. When I heard about the development around the Scottsdale Waterfront, I couldn't figure out what they were talking about. What water? Then I started cracking up when I found out it was the canal. The Waterfront couldn't really be described as a mall, but maybe a classy strip mall. It includes Olive and Ivy, P F Changs, Pink Taco, Borders, Urban Outfitters, Sauce, and much more. I like it for the Sauce, Borders, and Urban to be honest. Just steps a way from Fashion Square I usually only go as part of my fashion square experience. Above Scottsdale Waterfront are the Waterfront Condos which I haven't yet toured, but I'm sure they a pure luxury. I'm not sure what the new craze is with living above malls..Kierland and here, but people are loving it! The Waterfront is too small to make a trip for,but it's fun to check out if you are in the area. Also this may be the location of the long awaited Sprinkles Cupcakes! Yes! read more

Beautiful area to walk around. We had a family get together where we ate a large meal at P.F. Chang's China Bistro and shortly after headed out to walk around the river walk. IF I have a choice, I would rather be outside with nature..and in PHX this is close to my home and the best I can do. It's rather safe, as I like to run at night. I work upstairs and it is a gorgeous office space with a great view. It is near many restaurant and shopping amenities. It is practically an extension of Fashion Square Mall. I admit I had no idea that there was any water until wandering around the courtyard for the tall (exclusive) condo buildings this shopping center is built around, and it is only a canal. It is dressed up with floating lights from time to time and the bridge adds a nice touch as well. There is 24 hour security and a lot to do. What stops me from giving it 5 stars? The elevators are slow and need to be updated on the inside; also there is still a slightly weird smell near urban outfitters that needs to be remedied despite their best efforts. Did you know my home state of Minnesota has more miles of shoreline, due to the over 15,000 lakes, than any other state? Including coastal states. And did you know that Arizona has more boat owners per ca pita than any other state? Red or blue. So obviously we like our water. Naturally Scottsdale and their developers ponied up some dough to revitalize the waterfront. The stinky, stinky waterfront. Ahhh...yes, nothing like the stench of sulfur and sewage as you stroll the shops and eateries with family from out of town. But I have to give them props for linking Fashion Square to Oldtown. Brilliant. We were thre recently and, having never tried Olive and Ivy yet, wow, what a spread they have. Huge doors opening to the patio, overlooking the, er, um, water, river..., well it's a canal. A concrete canal with brown water. For now. Today. Three stars. But I'm an optimist who knows that more landscaping and better architecture are in the near future. Now if only they could install a giant Glade plug in somewhere. Or maybe we can hold a yelp event there with the Febreze people. read more

The waterfront area is coming along as it matures. Several shops/restaurants have closed - only to be replaced with better ones that are now thriving. I think this will be THE SPOT in old town within a few years. I like Culinary Dropout, The Herb Box, and Metro Brasserie. The developers have done a great job at marketing this place. Only in Scottsdale can you dig up a ditch and call it "waterfront". I am debating whether to give it a three star, because I don't want to be a hater, but this is not what I think of waterfront. I do have a waterfront condo in FL, now that is waterfront. read more
