Unlike some other reviewers, the decor is not a big thing for us. The place is bright and blessedly conversation friendly. My wife had the fried shrimp that she thought were excellent. The batter is very crispy and light, tempura-like with virtually no grease on the plate. I had the perch, also lightly breaded, and delicious. The service was outstanding and friendly. We were promptly served, drinks came right away. Our entrees came in less than 10 minutes, probably in part because they were lightly battered and fried. My wife ordered the small hot fudge sundae for dessert. Small was like a scoop and a half of ice cream with lots of sauce. Excellent, particularly at a $2.50 price. The entree prices seemed fair. read more

A great place to meet and catch up with friends while enjoying a good meal. Family owners work alongside staff. Servers hit a comfortable mix of friendly, competent, and grown-up: no "how you guys doin?'" stuff here. Prime rib is consistently as good as you can find anywhere. So are the walleye and the perch. Do not miss the deep-fried asparagus in the spring. Desserts are very good; salads not so much. Not the place for a high-end wine experience, but it is very well tuned to its community and repeat clientele, including us. read more

Went to Scotty's on a recommendation, but we were severely disappointed.While the service was very good, the food was awful. My husband had the whitefish which was bland, and was topped with un melted Swiss cheese squares that looked suspiciously like kraft singles. My fried perch looked like shriveled fish remnants, made edible only because of the tartar sauce. I should have known to have low expectations. The decorative plants hanging from the rafters were mostly dead and badly in need of repotting. We left still hungry, and went straight to the grocery store for a solid snack! Been coming here forever . The Scott family does a great job to make you feel at home. They also give a great value for your dollar. I have read some of these reviews - most are very possitive, the others are from one time dinners that may have been there on a rare off nite. A family-style restaurant with large tables and booths. I'm a non-smoker--but not when I walk through Scotty's. Very bad at times. The food is okay--they feature prime rib specials occasionally that are very good and the serving size is more than generous. Love their spinach salad. Wait staff spotty. The desk clerk at the Best Western down the street recommended this place when we asked about dinner. Her recommendation was a good one. I had the seafood platter - battered scallops, shrimp, cod, and perch with fries. My wife had the shrimp stuffed with crab on rice and covered with mozzarella cheese. Both meals were very good, The batter used in the seafood platter was very light and tasty. The fish were tender and perfectly cooked as were the steak fries. Service was very good and the staff, very friendly. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like much, but the inside is somewhat classy and tastefully decorated with some interesting artwork. The restaurant is open only for dinner. We got there early and had to wait for the doors to open. The restaurant filled up quite quickly. read more

My husband & I had dinner at Scotty's last weekend. We have visited this restaurant many times over the past 30 years. We even got engaged here which we usually celebrate here every year. It sadly has gone down in quality & staff too. We keep giving them chances but have decided not anymore. My husband had asked what the difference was between the prime rib special for $23.00 & the one posted on the chalk board for $21.00 as you came into the restaurant? The waitress said that the special in the menu had an incorrect price. It should be $21.00 & she would tell the manager. Later after we were just about finished eating she came by & said she found out that the price should be $23.00 but she would honor the price. When she came by later my husband asked her if she checked the sign. She said no that she was getting yelled at. She gave us the check & they charged us $23.00. It is not the $2.00 difference. We did pay it and decided not to say anything. It is the point. When we left we could see that they erased the 1 & replaced it with a 3. It is unbelievable that they would still charge us for their mistake. Also, my salmon trio was made incorrectly. they put the sesame seeds & green onion on the wrong piece which I let go. My husbands prime rib was 2 different heats & his garlic mashed potatoes were cold. She kept forgetting to bring our drinks too. We didn't say anything because throughout the meal our waitress acted like she did not want to be there. No smiles, no thank you's & we were very cordial to her the whole time. I figured she was having a bad day which unfortunately turned into our bad experience. read more

Ordered whitefish, supposed to be their speciality. I had to add salt three times and order extra lemons just to give it some taste. Only got baked potato and rolls with dinner. Had to pay extra for salad. The baked potato was also disappointing, it was boiled first and barely hot. My husband ordered the seafood platter. It looked good but he said Long John Silvers is just as good. Had to leave and go get dessert because I was still hungry. read more

One of our favorite restaurants. I often call for reservations but have also walked in at more off times and have been seated quickly. Love the booth setup for "date night" The menu is great. Although they did change to exclude salad in the price of the meals so now a spinach salad is (I think) $4 extra. But oh well... I love that spinach salad!! Waitresses are generally topnotch. Food is almost always perfect. Dessert menu is nice as well. read more

If you want to step into 1970 this is your place. From the decor to the menu this place is at least 40 years out of date. It amazes me that they stay in business year after year, but the tourists who don't know must keep it going I guess. Nothing on the menu is "bad" by any means: decent prime rib, decent chicken, decent lake perch, etc. But from the little pot of cheese spread to the carpeting on the floor it just feels like a place that was probably great 40 years ago and just never updated their menu or their philosophy. Mediocre food and service. Prices are high for what you get. Their "dinner menu" does not include a house salad when ordering an entree. Everything is a bit "beat up"..... tableware, furnishings, restroom, entry. The parking lot is packed, and it appears from driving by that this restaurant is the place to go! Visited Luddington, MI from 8/14/11-8/21/11 and ate there the evening of 8/20. Been to Luddington for the past several years & driven past Scotty's many times. Drove past & saw a sign saying they have the best perch in MI and my husband loves perch so we went in for dinner. Didn't wait for a table and noticed the restaurant is rather large & was packed for dinner! Decor a bit outdated but everything was clean - even the green carpet and cloth placemats! I hate when restaurants don't put new placemats down but I did notice a bus girl taking the old ones out & replacing with clean ones. Waitress could only handle one thing at a time - she came to our table & welcomed us & then said she had a few tables to get to & then will come back to us - she didn't even take our drink order. By the time she got back to us we ordered our full meal-drinks, appetizer, and dinner. I had: french onion soup, Double Heart beer (local craft beer brewed in MI - very good), and apple-bacon-cranberry stuffed chicken breast. My husband had: cracker plate, Double Heart beer, and perch. As we waited I noticed as the nearby tables finished their dinner, the waitress would put up the stand and put a tray on top, clear the dirty plates, utensils, and dirty cups onto the tray & then walk away! TOTALLY GROSS!! Then I had to sit and look at the pile of gross stuff until someone eventually took the tray away! GROSS GROSS GROSS! I told my husband that that is the deal breaker & I would not come back to the restaurant no matter how good the food. Fortunately, by the time our dinner came out, the trays had been removed as the restaurant cleared out. My chicken was DELICIOUS! Rob really enjoyed his perch too. So, we are kinda torn - the food was very delicious & would go back for it, but the service was ok (think more a factor of the specific waitress) and the whole dirty-dishes-left-out-on-trays factor was gross & a deal breaker. This restaurant appears to be a local favorite but not for us. With no waiting line at 8:00 we waited 15 minutes to be seated, having been told our table was being cleared, despite the many cleared tables available. And here's the kicker: while waiting a party of 6 arrived who almost immediately were directed to the table we were waiting for. We had read the reviews and menu on the internet which said gourmet hamburgers would be served for lunch as well as dinner, but when we got there, they said no, just a basic hamburger was available, as an exception, because hamburgers of no sort were usually served at dinner. We declined the favor and opted for two full meals. I got the house special, perch which came with your choice of potatoes but no vegetable or even coleslaw. The presentation was disappointing. Five finger pieces of fried perch on a barren plate, a separate bowl of mashed potatoes with of all things beef gravy. My husband got the small rib roast, again presented on a barren plate with a side dish of fries. Again no vegetable.the au jus was either canned or bouillon but was presented most elegantly in a tin can perched atop a candle. Ultimately the food was good but would not go back. read more

I'm usually pretty lenient, but this had to be my worst dining experience ever! From the ambiance, to service, to food! When we walked in we noticed a mildew smell and the interior was from the 80's. We then heard our waitress chewing out her colleagues prior to coming to our table. My wife ordered the "special", chicken Parmesan. Upon taking her first bite of the chicken she noticed it was very rubbery and tasted awful. She cut into the breast and saw 1/2 was raw! When the waitress came over, we didn't even have to tell her what was wrong she just said, "oh is it raw?" She never apologized just asked if my wife wanted something else. We then shared my meal...the lake perch which was ok. When she brought the bill, she still charged us for my wife's side salad she had prior to her entree! And even after bringing out bill, she still offered no apology. We went to this restaurant because of a friends recommendation, but we will never return! read more
