I'm so in love with everything about Scout Coffee on Foothill Blvd in SLO! I'm actually bummed I don't live here and was just visiting. If I lived here, this would be my GO TO spot for ALL my coffee needs. The space is thoughtfully designed with many furniture pieces from repurposed goods. It is spacious with a light, bright airy feel. All the "baristas" were so welcoming and friendly. They seemed to enjoy their job and their coworkers. They set off a very cohesive vibe. I wish I could have spent the morning just being there but had to leave for a funeral. So many things caught our eye! The baked goods were devine. The T-shirts were super soft and I would have bought one of they had our sizes. The roasted coffee beans were priced fairly. I haven't even gotten to the coffee yet! There were so many iced coffee/cold brew options it was really hard to choose. We ended up selecting the Lemon Pistachio shortbread cookie, a Ginger Molasses cookie, a seasonal scone: Honey Cinnamon, an iced Latte and an iced Vanilla Bean Latte: 1/2 sweet and a bag of Classic Espresso beans. My only sadness was I should have gotten a large latte instead of a regular. We saved the desserts for after the funeral and enjoyed the yummy coffees on our way. The Ginger Molasses cookie was perfect. Moist and chewy and not too much ginger. I should have bought more! The Lemon Pistachio cookie had a lovely balance of lemon zest and fine pieces of pistachio in the cookie and a not too tart lemon glaze and pieces of pistachio on top. It wasn't dry or super dense either. Someone making these is an experienced baker! The Honey Cinnamon scone was the best scone we have ever had. It was messy but so worth it. Plenty of latte options! It was my first time at Scout's and I was overwhelmed with all the choices! They have some seasonal offerings and they looked very interesting. I just opted for a basic vanilla bean latte. The person that took my order was super nice and patient! There were a ton of students that were studying or chatting at the tables so there were limited seats available. Their windows are all open so there's quite a lot of sunlight coming through the windows which adds a nice touch to the entire store. It did take a little bit for my drink to get made but I honestly appreciate baristas taking their time with each individual drink instead of batching everything. For starters, this coffee shop is really cool. I mean really, really cool. They have a ton of space, cute decor, you can see where they make & process everything, lots of merchandise & tasty coffee. I went there on two separate occasions when I was in Morro Bay for the week. I had a vanilla bean latte one day & the butterscotch latte the next. Both the lattes were good & I drank them way too fast because of how tasty they were. Their croissants are so flaky & buttery. Best around. My biggest complaint is the customer service. The lady pictured in my photo of the pastries helped us the second day we went. She was extremely unprofessional. I was in the middle of ordering a latte when she turned around, walked all the way down to the other counter & set her phone down. I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of that was, or why she didn't excuse herself first. I thought it was strange but I didn't get bent out of shape about that. All I ordered was a latte. I then asked her before she rang me up if she could change it to a vanilla bean latte, and if I could have a bigger size. She stared at me without saying anything for a good five seconds, then finally rang me up. She was inconvenienced by my asking for a bigger size & a flavor added to my latte?? I'm sorry lady but I'm asking to upcharge my one item. Doesn't that help your business? She was very snide in the way she spoke to me. The inside vibe is very cute! There's a decent amount of seating, but it has been pretty full the times I've gone. There's typically a pretty long line, but they move through it in good time. I recently had the vanilla latte and butterscotch latte. The vanilla is good and not too sweet. The butterscotch is a good choice if you like it sweeter. This place is what every coffee shop wants to be when it grows up, beautiful interiors and delicious drinks. I got their Matcha latte. It was just the right amount of sweet, and expertly crafted. You can really tell they take their sourcing and roasting seriously. The baked goods are equally on point, I wish I would have tried one of their cookies but next time! Fix The Problem..... I usually have a hard time giving less than 4 stars, but in this case 2 stars was as easy as breathing. I placed an order for a hot drink and specified......."extra hot, extra foam and 1/2 sweet". The young woman who took my order was very nice and conscientious and repeated it back to make sure. While I waited, I watched the barista from a short distance. He was a college age guy with a tattoo on his neck and tattoos on both arms who was "holding court" with customers and other employees. His job was on automatic pilot. So it wasn't a surprise when my drink came back like lukewarm hot chocolate......"barely warm, decent foam and way sweet". He seemed like a nice enough person, but as the former owner of a dessert cafe in the Bay Area, I'd either put him on probation or show him the door. He gave a bad name to very popular place. When we were traveling to San Luis Obispo over the weekend, Scout Coffee was a college staple for my friend and I a few years ago. It looked almost the exact same as it did the first time I visited--modern, clean, and sophisticated but also cozy with minimal colors. I love the primarily white color scheme! My friend and I ordered one pastry each and at least one drink. Everything came out relatively quickly despite the long lines (~5-6 minutes!). I went a bit all out and got two almond milk iced lattes: matcha and a decaf! The chocolate banana cake, while decadent (it took me nearly all day to finish), was DELISH and so fluffy. 10/10 love this spot for any SLO trip! read more

Americano - My daughter ordered for me; it was just okay. Vanilla Bean Latte - Decaf, my daughter's drink; not sure why people order decaf... Ginger Molasses Cookie - A bakery in San Leandro is our favorite. Lemon Pistachio Shortbread - My daughter's regular cookie. Sunshine Bun - Amazing. My wife's order. Came here today with my husband to get our morning coffee. The place is a shopping center. So you have great parking. It is a very nice coffee shop with lots of seating areas. Which were mostly taken my students on their laptops. I guess it makes sense since it's situated across the street from a college. We were able to find a table outside so we can drink our coffee. I want to San Luis Obispo to go to the byzantine Catholic Church in the area for Thanksgiving holiday! I stopped by scout coffee because I was down the street from the church. Scout coffee has something for everyone. All of their treats/ baked goods are tasty. From savory to sweet they have you covered. My personal favorite is their cappuccino. I love scouts DOWNTOWN SLO so much, it has been a family favorite for years and a staple to the SLO community. Walking downtown can be daunting so grabbing a cup of coffee is the only way to suffice. I ordered a Capuccino it trastes great but the barista Ava (on April 17th at 8am) was not very nice when I went to pick up my drink. I would go over to Kreuzberg instead or Linnea's seeing that it wasn't to busy. Regardless if you do come to scouts I would grab a vainilla Bean milkshake and avoid the baristas (chances are they will stop doing their job to talk a lot and make rude looks at you). The baked items are amazing and if I could make a recomendación I would get a sliding door so the Files that are always flying by the door don't go in and out of the case. I stopped by this coffee shop for the first time before work since it's nearby. The space is super cute and clean, so I was excited to try it! Unfortunately, the cashier's attitude and lack of basic customer service ruined the experience. I ordered a cold brew and a savory danish. The cashier handed me my coffee and dismissed me, so I stood aside waiting for my danish--only to later realize it was supposed to be handed to me right at the counter. When I asked for it, I also politely requested to have my iced coffee remade black because the flavoring she recommended didn't taste good. She paused, looked annoyed, and said "um, yeah ok" with clear attitude--even though there was no one else in line. At that point, I decided to just leave. I threw away the coffee and called to get a refund because I didn't want to deal with the unprofessional service any further. It's really unfortunate, because the shop itself is lovely and I was looking forward to making it a regular stop--but after this experience, I won't be coming back. read more
